Gore Launches Climate Reality Project, Asks People to Reject Mistruths About Climate CrisisFormer vice-president Al Gore is back with a new global warming campaign. This morning, he announced the launch of “The Climate Reality Project,“ an initiative he claims is intended to ”…broadcast the reality of the climate crisis.”

In a brief article for the Huffington Post, he laments “extreme weather” and claims that companies are using big tobacco’s “deceitful playbook” in an intentional effort to mislead the public:

They have nearly unlimited resources to sow doubt, but we have one critical advantage: Reality is on our side…

This campaign is called The Climate Reality Project. We will invite people to discover for themselves the truth about climate change for themselves, and reject the mistruths they hear every day.

The campaign will begin with a large-scale, global event called “24 Hours of Reality.” This happening, scheduled for September 14-15, will be presented in numerous languages and in 24 time zones. Below, watch Gore’s introductory video that further explains the initiative:

…24 Hours of Reality is a worldwide event to broadcast the reality of the climate crisis. It will consist of a new multimedia presentation created by Al Gore and delivered once per hour for 24 hours, in every time zone around the globe. Each hour people living with the reality of climate change will connect the dots between recent extreme weather events — including floods, droughts and storms — and the manmade pollution that is changing our climate. We will offer a round-the- clock, round-the-globe snapshot of the climate crisis in real time. The deniers may have millions of dollars to spend, but we have a powerful advantage. We have reality.

This new project will replace‘s Gore’s Alliance for Climate Projection (a group that claims to have five million members across the globe). The former vice-president will chair Climate Reality.

This announcement comes after a vocal month for the former politician. Last month, Gore took to the pages of Rolling Stone to criticize President Barack Obama’s record on clean energy and climate change. He writes:

President Obama has thus far failed to use the bully pulpit to make the case for bold action on climate change. After successfully passing his green stimulus package, he did nothing to defend it when Congress decimated its funding…

He has also called for a massive expansion of oil drilling in the United States, apparently in an effort to defuse criticism from those who argue speciously that “drill, baby, drill” is the answer to our growing dependence on foreign oil.

PBS Newshour spent some time debating Gore‘s Rolling Stone piece and the realities of Obama’s environmental movements thus far:

What comes after the Climate Reality launch event? That is yet to be determined, but if the initiative rolls out as planned, it is certain to gain quite a bit of attention.

    Gladly Mr Gore: I reject you and the lies you present for the utter fabrications and falsehoods they are to anyone who will bother to look at the facts with a open mind for themselves.

    The so called great enviormentalist who had a conference with chairs crafted of endangered tree species; who had a strip mine in one properties back yard, and whos home mansion consumes so much power to light a small city in its own right…

      I have another suggestion. Al Gore should DEMAND that all coal fired plants in the USA shut down for the 24 hours of reality, because that is what 24 hours of reality would be without coal plants running, a reality check
      I would like to see all coal plants on a voluntary basis shut down for this, then, there would not even be enough electricity to watch Gore’s lies.

      If Coal power plants shut operations for 12 hours there would be chaos in half that time. Maybe fossil fuel companie should only sell their product to people not trying to destroy their industry. No Fuel for Gore,and his supporters,no power that isn’t green. He77 if we cut them off we could cut our dependency of foriegn oil.

      Great, sidestep the issue to attack Gore. He is a hypocrite, and many other things but it doesn’t discount the truth that we are a wasteful society. American exceptionalism: build, market, and sell commodities we don’t need. The modern industrial culture has distracted us with comforts we dare not forfeit, so continue to deny the existence of anthropogenic environmental degradation, you obviously don‘t care about the environment so you obviously don’t mind letting your descendants witness widespread species extinction and worldwide famine.

      CO2 is a water soluble gas who’s solubility is drastically affected by temperature, so naturally there is going to be a historic correlation between CO2 and average global temperature! When water is colder (oceans and rivers), it holds more CO2. This is easily demonstrated by opening a warm pepsi and a cold pepsi. The warm one will fizz more. Every single global warming model that I’ve seen is based on that correlation.

      Saying increased CO2 levels increase temperature is like saying opening an umbrella causes it to rain.

      Yep, we gladly reject Gore and his outrageous lies. Thousands of years of recorded history verifies that the “climate changes”, getting both cooler and warmer than today. And “climate” has done this long before the term “climate change” and “carbon footprint” were created.

      As Dr. Roy C. Spencer said before the Senate, global temperatures have been declining since about 2000 and will continue until it is too obvious to ignore. We are there.

      Isn’t it funny how the big joke on Al Gore over the winter was the snow seen in the Northeast (which may very well have been caused by the warmer oceans and increased evaporation). Now that the US is being scorched with record temperatures nobody is singing that tune now.

      hrankta, you are, of course, correct. The phenomenon you cite is one of the dangerous “feedback” mechanisms to push climate change even faster, just like the melting ice caps reflect less and less heat back into space, heat that is absorbed instead by the oceans.

      Really folks, disbelieve climate change if you want. When you get your science from Rush Limbaugh, that’s what happens. If you get your science from the overwhelming majority of actual climate scientists, you get a different answer. Before very many years none of this is going to be a joke anymore.

For the regular people of the world this would be a great day to focus on family and would end up being like a holiday so long as they know it is going to happen. Unfortunately, there is a large group of progressive liberal idiot with a give me attitude who just can’t go without power for a day. They will almost instantly riot and ruin the day for the rest of us. Oh, and the elderly and others rely on electricity to survive, so we need to ensure they maintain power.

      It is funny to me that Tony is the only one mentions the FACT that the globe has been cooling since 2000. This fact alone is the reason that the term “Global Warming” has changed to “Climate Change”. The so called scientist know this is BS, so now they tell you extended cold spells and cooler than normal springs are because of global warming.
      For everyone who makes fun of people who “deny” climate change, you should be the first on the bandwagon to have the coal plants shut down for a day to show the world how much better it will be.
      Does anyone ever think the same way food is put on the earth, the natural food chain of animals, and everything else that works, that mabey coal and oil was put here as the best option for energy for reasons that we don’t even fully understand yet.
      What ever happened to the hole in the ozonethat was going to kill everyone? Mabey global warming closed it up.

      @ The Lonious, Do you live in a lean to in the woods? From the fact that you are using the internet I can discern some basic facts about you. You are proficient in computer skills which are for all intents and purposes an excess to the needs of your human survival. Also, you own or can borrow a computer from someone or a library. That computer is also an excess. I also bet that you are in an air-conditioned space, the most excessive use of electricity that has ever existed, just so you don’t have to sweat a little. From these few things I can tell that Al is not the only hypocrite worth taking note of. Also, just because we are using natural resources doesn’t mean that we are changing the climate of the planet. It also doesn’t mean that we are causing every extinction that is happening on the globe. The wild is far more protected today than it was a century ago because of the excesses that you are so disgusted of. Hunting for instance, used to be the main way we provided protein for our families and before refrigeration the leftovers went to waste. Today, thanks to agricultural advances, we don’t have to hunt to provide ourselves with meat. Fact, every year there are more white tailed deer hit by cars than the total amount of white tailed deer that existed in the US circa 1900. Over 100,000 deer are hit by cars yearly. This rise in wildlife is directly related to these excesses you think we should surrender. What say you now?

How convenient-you get to be concerned but never pay a price for taking a stand.of course global warming,climate change cannot be gaged over a period of a hundred years. a planet thats been around for billions of years, where climate changes happen over milenia and fluctuate at any ponts in time,how on earth can measuring any changes anywhere on earth for a hundred years really tell us anything? it doesn’t make sense[perhaps in the years 369 to 469 had we measured changes all over the world,who knows what we may have obseved [incressing or decreasing temperatures or signs of increasing or decreasing temperatures].No way to gage in a hundred year span when the earth is a billion years old! I think certain people are offended when I disagree with the prevailing opinion, give the reasons for opinion and at the same time don’t call people stupid or whatever. My conscious is clear but I guess people complain. That’s fair, this website is in the business of making money and they have to and should make decisions on that basis.       I like your lyrics. Is that available on iTunes? But I do have to tell with all honesty that I haven’t lost any freedom. Have you? Care to explain? I can still vote, there curfew where I live, I can still do whatever I want, same as 20 years ago.

      But I know what you’re talking about I think. You long for the good old days when the sun was rarely seen in some cities because of smog (LA, Denver), when companies could dump carcinogens into the water your children drink, dump solvents into rivers until they occasionally catch fire (rivers catch fire, you know), banks could screw you over and you had no recourse. You’ve been brainwashed. What’s good for business is mostly definitely not always good for the you. But sadly many people don’t realize that.       Look at Gore’s OCEAN FRONT house, and it tells you everything you need to know about his real beliefs. How many feet did he say the oceans would rise? And he said this much prior to buying this new home. Yet are kids are still forced to watch “Convienant Lies” in school. Lovely.

      It was Henry Waxman, (D-CA) that was instrumental in the destruction of the tobacco industry in the ‘70’s. Think what you want about the dangers of tobacco but it was a legally produced product and the people still had the choice to smoke.

      Yeah, they changed the asthma medicine that contained a propellent that is stated to screw up the Ozone…sooo they came up with a ozone friendly albuterol…

The reality is…..even if it does exist, there is nothing we can do here in U.S. that will make enough difference to change it bc the rest of the world refuses to do anything….like China.     What Al Gore needs to launch is…..himself into outerspaces. I feel he will be in a better position to deal with global warming from there. Make sure his ship has NO radio because we don’t need to hear from him. I trust he will be ok on his own.

    What difference does it make? According to Algore we only have 4 years 6 months and 15 days left before a scorching. Figure in October 21st of this year when life ends on earth, and Dec 21st 2012 when the Mayan apocalypse occurs. why waste our time.
