Gov. Christie: Best Way to Preserve Human Life On the Jersey Shore Is for there to Be No Human Beings On Jersey Shore

Hundreds of evacuees from the Jersey shore arrived in Trenton by busloads overnight into Saturday morning as the first winds from Hurricane Irene began blowing in New Jersey. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says more than 1 million people have evacuated the New Jersey shore in advance of Hurricane Irene. He says more than 90 percent of people in living in some of the most vulnerable spots have left.

Mandatory evacuations were in effect for all of Cape May County, Long Beach Island and coastal communities in Atlantic and Ocean counties as the shore has emptied out since Friday. Forecasters have said the state will feel the worst effects of the storm by Sunday morning.

The New York Post reports that the state is busing people in from shore communities to the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton as a staging area and may also make the Izod Center in Newark available if more shelter space is needed.

Gov. Chris Christie has urged people to use shelters only as a means of last resort and public transportation around the state was expected to come to a halt by midday Saturday.

Atlantic City casinos were closed for only the third time since 1978, the other two instances being Hurricane Gloria in 1985 and once because of a state government shutdown in 2006..  Senior citizens living in several high-rise buildings in Atlantic City have refused to leave their dwellings. NBC 4 reports that officials sent buses to those buildings and police are trying to talk those seniors into leaving their homes, Christie said. “Please allow us to help protect you,” he said.

Across the Hudson from Manhattan, Hoboken has issued a mandatory evacuation order for all ground-floor units.

New Jersey Braces For Irene

While it weakened some late Friday, Hurricane Irene is still supposed to hit New Jersey — or pass very close by — as a Category 1 storm with winds of more than 75 miles per hour and torrential rains.

Six to 10 inches of rain is expected to cause flooding along rivers and streams all over New Jersey, many of them already were swollen after a rainy August.

A storm surge could raise water levels by 3 to 6 feet along the seacoast and the Raritan and Delaware bays. The effect could be even bigger if the storm arrives, as expected, in conjunction with an abnormally high tide around dawn Sunday.

The Associated Press contributed to this article.

Perry / Christy? Perry / Rubio ? Christy/ Bachman? Bachman/ Rubio ? Perry / Bachman? Wow I am in dream land, if we were able to get anyone of these tickets together we would win 45 of the 50 states. Or if Barry is counting 52 or the 57 states. OMG he is such a waste to our country’s attempts to get better. Hope our kids can skip over him in the history books like they have to skip over Washington and Lincoln and others.

It’s amazing to me when you have some liberal progressive trampling your civil liberties and wants the government to intrude in every aspect of our lives, everyone that is for freedom is outraged. But when you have a FAT POS RINO like christie who comes across as a little dictator he gets a pass and has excuses made for his actions. The only thing conservative about this A HOLE are his fiscal policies. On other issue he’s a liberl jerk off.

Well you know what fat ass if you want to save a life and do’nt want to burden the health care system any further keep you mouth shut instead of shoveing food in your pie hole you fat slob.Apparently you not smart enough to do it on your own so the people must step in to save you from your self *****.

You are an idiot, what does Governor Chris Christie’s weight have anything to do with him warning about a hurricane hitting the shores of New Jersey. Nice to see how people judge others based solely on their looks instead of the character of who they are.

@THE TIME HAS COME – you need to read into some things before you make yourself look stupid. First, most conservatives liked Christie because of his strong fiscal policy and his ability to speak frankly without fear and give the HEAVY NJ democrat base a dose of truth. Socialy I knew Christie was more of a centrist. But for NJ hes the guy to get it done, his term will be seen a one that NJ desperatly needed.

Which brings me to the civil liberties claim. From the American Bar Association http://www.americanbar.org/newsletter/publications/law_practice_today_home/law_practice_today_archive/april11/fight_or_flight_on_enforcing_mandatory_evacuations.html
States decide what is the best call for them to make. In NJ they cannot arrest but they claim that they will not rescue if you do not heed the call to evacuate. Very FEW states actually make it a crime to ignor the orders to evacuate thus enabling the arresting powers of police to forcebly move you.

Gov Christie even said in a press conference before IRENE hit that he will not forcably evacuate people yet he has tried to talk sense into them time after time. Find and WATCH THE FULL VIDEO not just clips which presents christie saying things like “Get the hell off the beach”. He contacted buisnesses whom IMMEDIATLY agreed to work with the Gov under their own will. This is how it should be.

My guess would be that the liberal left just can’t find any other weakness in Mr. Christie so they attack his size. What these idiots fail to realize is that just because you are not super model thin, doesn’t mean your in bad health. From one big guy to another, keep up the awesome work you are doing out there. We need more guys like Chris Christie in government, then maybe we can get this country back on the right track.

The only real damage that is going to occur is to those developments actually on or near the beach. You have basically unprotected open low-level areas essentially from Asbury Park to Cape May, especially with some at risk well populated sandbar islands like Long Beach Island north of Atlantic City, that I get that you may want to evac. Then past the Bay area northward, perhaps from Union Beach / Perth Amboy on up the rest of the Coastline, you have areas you may want to pull back an average of 6 blocks up to a mile or so, whatever areas especially vulnerable just from heavy rains (even without the extra rip-tide surf and storm surges) . For those of us who lived the Jersey Shore, the media panic is out of context and ridiculous. This storm, I bet, is in many ways much like the winter storms of the late 70s that just about rip-tide gutted Sandy Hook in Monmouth County into an island (almost, but not quite). The action happened just north of that Sea wall (that runs from there to something like down to Long Branch) somewhere in the years of ‘77 to ’78 in the papers as I recall, and took out one huge tourist beach house and most of the accompanying beach. That is the effect you will get from a due south Tropical to Class 2 hurricane or this alleged 100 year storm, which is more or less a 33 -34ish year winter storm coming in the summer. There is no need to panic, just take it in stride and play it safe. Having saved lives from rip-tides, avoid them like the plague.

It is not his job to preserve human life. His job is to take care of the people’s business, not micro manage their lives. More big govt intrusion. If somebody wants to risk their life doing something, that is their call to make, not his. And you people want this micro managing social prog to be POTUS. Pfft.

But no – have to have some one tell you and then it’s NEWS – because it was necesary. My feeling – if they are too dumb to get off the beach (anyone over 10 yrs old) – then they deserve to die. You are wrong. There is a segment of society that needs someone to tell them what to do because they are completely irresponsible and, sadly, have been accustomed to having others, usually the government, give them everything and discouraging them to have any initiative or common sense. So, without Christie telling them what to do in words of few syllables, they would be quite content to stand on the beach until they are about to be swept away waiting for the government to pick them up and carry them to safety at the last minute. Remember Katrina?

Christie is a bully and a demagogue. He bought into the hype and nonsense over this CAT 1 hurricane turning into a tropical storm. Of course there’s heavy winds and rain, flooding and the rest, but it isn’t anything even remotely like the real big ones like Ike, Andrew or Camille, with devastation on a massive scale.

Earlier today the gov of NC was on TV in full drama mode talking about don’t leave your houses it is so bad…and literally the next segment was a journalist standing on the beach (I’m sure they picked the best spot where the wind would blow the hair around a bit, and make it seem serious) and it didn’t look much worse than a normal storm at the beach with a couple gusty winds…..

At to make it sound even more DANGEROUS after that segment the anchor said “And it was just reported that a 12 year old boy was killed…(literally a slight pause)…in a car accident, and this car accident was caused by Irene killing a traffic signal…You must stay INSIDE folks”

The Governor reminds me of a Command Sargent Major I served under years ago. In WWII he had a total parachute malfunction during the D-Day Invasion. He broke many, many bones but lived and wound up in the Pacific Theater before the war ended. He had a special I.D. card from the Department of Defense to go through the early airport metal detectors because he had sooooo much metal holding him together.

He led our six mile run at least once a week and didn’t want to hear about our petty complaints or aches & pains. He led by example. That was the key. He passed away while on active duty from natural causes and I believe the whole of the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army showed up at the services. NOT because we were ordered to but because we wanted to.

Gov. Christie commands respect because he earns it.
