Gov. Christie Unveils New Education Partnership on ‘Oprah’

New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie dropped by the Oprah show this afternoon to announce his latest efforts to improve New Jersey public schools, a bipartisan public/private partnership with Democratic Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg:

As Gov. Christie notes, the state capital took over administration of Newark’s faltering public schools more than a decade ago, but the district continues to struggle. With the new partnership, Christie has pledged to relinquish some authority back to the city of Newark to encourage local authority and private sector participation to help put the school district back on the right track.

    imareader,WOW! Well put! I just left in a dust cloud now why Christie was suppose to be so anti Obama then appearing on Oprah. Oprah is so pathetically Pro Obama it is pathetic. I guess her blessing for these black children is so heart wrenching important. I have no problem for any kid’s color getting an education. I do have a problem this is always about the Afro American. This is getting really old and I’m tired of it. There is a lot of white kids who are slipping in education too.

      Vicki Morgan was Alfred Bloomingdale’s mistress. Alfred introduced her to all Reagan’s cabinet buddies.She was a real party girl and they really liked her, if you know what I mean. So the thing about Vicki is, she was a bit naive and she started writing a book about all these orgies that they were having. The next thing you know… Bam! She’s murdered. But what these White House killers don’t realize is, Vicki kept some videotapes of their sexcapades. These tapes, are pure carnality. Filthy.I’ve never seen anything…Well, I have. But most people haven’t seen anything like this…..

Your connect the dots example is only one of the many maneuvers taking place behind the scenes. This is about money and power. It is not about government of the people by the people for the people.     Yep sounds all good helping 90% blacks and why Oprah is so passionate about this. Does Oprah ever get excited about helping whites in poverty? Yeah and the other guy who spoke Obama’s U.S. Secretary of Education says this is a Civil Rights Issue. Here we go again so you know this is for all blacks. Governor Christie is seemingly a turn coat after being elected. I know this seems I‘m racist but I’m not at all. You can accuse me for voicing my opinion. I’m pointing out that everything is for the minority anymore and the whites are now being discriminated against. I see this every day. The whites are really starting to see this for what it is. If Christie, the mayor and Face Book’s Zecker, Zucker or Sucker “whatever” were doing this very program for a mostly white poorer class it would be bashed.

    I watched this Oprah show today and and was glad to see that the entire country is having the conversation about education. Its time that America had this wake up call. If it takes someone like Oprah to bring this out into the open then I personally am all for it. Thumbs up on this one.

    This is a noble and necessary movement within the education department. Notice it came from the state level and not from the Federal Department of Education. I had to laugh when Arne Duncan said we need to remove ideology from the education system. Does he mean like the gay agenda he supports? Or the global warming agenda he supposrts? Or the anti-capitalism agenda that he supposrts? What he REALLY means is remove the opportunity for arguments in the system by gaming the system to the advantage of the progressive agenda and silencing Conservative opinions.

    How ’bout for every “free” meal you/your child receives, so many hours of volunteering in the cafeteria, library or reading to a class is required? This alone will help those who are in a situation to have to “receive” become more appreciative of what they’re receiving…not to mention the accountability issue these guys (Gov. Christie, Mayor, etc.) are talking about.
    This “giving for receiving” program could also be expanded to food stamp and other welfare programs, too.

      I have always said that Leslie.If someone is on welfare they should be made to report to their local borough hall for 40 hrs a week.I don’t care if they send them to mow old people grass pick up trash or whatever but get them off their arses.This way maybe their children will see this and say I don.t want to do that when I grow up. Nowadays kids see their parents staying up all night partying and say hey I want to live like this no worries.And I don’t want to hear they need babysitters because that will be some of their jobs they will be first aid trained and put in charge of watching children for 40 hrs a week.

    I turned off Oprah after she campaigned for Obama. I am shocked that this was on and wish I had seen the whole show! Without parent involvement, any plan will fail. perfectly stated buy the Newark Mayor.

      I have my fingers crossed, and I truly hope for the best here, but this doesn’t look good to me. There are too many competing conflicts in this one, with some very well known opportunists involved.       The problem is that government operating on Progressive principles & ideology insists on trying to be the only source and/or conduit for charity as it seeks to expand it’s role and power over every aspect of life. It puts up roadblocks and disincentives to this kind of activity by the private sector. Get government out of the way and more solutions will appear as the people themselves solve the problems in their own communities.

The richest woman in the United States is Christy Walton, with an estimated net worth of @$24 Billion, followed by Alice Walton (yes, relation) at @$20 Billion. The Oprah’s net worth is less than $3 Billion.

      Oprah is the probably the richest SELF-MADE woman in the US. Unlike the Waltons, she didn’t inherit money from dad or hubby. On that note Oprah could be a better role model to Black woman:The wealthiest self-made woman in the US at the top of the 20th century was a black woman, Madame C.J. Walker (a millionaire). The wealthiest self-made woman at the top of the 21st century was a black woman, Oprah J. Winfrey. If she thought about it she could show black women that welfare is NOT the answer, and that they CAN make in the USA.

      Finally someone who n’t seen anything this refreshing in years. I spent 30 years as a Busoness Professor so I’ve first hand seen the failure of public education.

      Someone on Blaze catches the vision. Oprah has given millions to help black education. I can’t remember what school in what nation. You know hatred blinds one to the goodness in people.       I agree. At one time I liked and watched Oprah until she developed her very own form of spiruality, built a school in another country when we need educational support HERE in the USA. She seems to think more of Harpo productions than America. I remember when she was noted to be the first female in the USA to become a Billionaire in her own right, but instead of helping HER chosen people here in America she continues to follow her own style whatever that is. I respect her entrepreneurial spirit but harbor no respect for her values, principles, and nudging. She may be leaving ABC, but she is starting her own cable network. God help us and OUR children, grandchildren and our country. When she endorced the Markest in the WH, that was MY final straw.

    I’m probably off but not by much but I read somewhere that Newark as a whole town is subsidized by almost 95% by the state of New Jersey.
    Even though it‘s not as bad as when Booker took over it’s still a scary town.

    Still this is nothing I haven’t heard before about Newark, there has been a lifelong stream of corrupt officials in the Newark system.

    But if Christie & Booker pull this one off. Christie is a shoe in for President.

      Years ago I got a job with Good Humor in NJ. My first day on the job (in my own ice-cream truck) was spent working a route that included the worst sections of Newark. I got robbed twice that day. The second robbery took place about 20 minutes after the first robbery. I was actually pulled over at a phone booth calling the police when I got robbed a second time. When the cops showed up I was bloody and beaten. Even though I kept pointing to the two guys that beat me up sitting on their stoop across the street, the cops simply told me to go home. When I demanded they arrest the two that mugged me they threatened me. Within a month I moved to South Carolina and have never looked back. New Jersey deserves whatever it gets.

      That is becasue the wealthier homewoners moved out long ago leaving behind nothing but a big ghetto where nobody pays taxes except the corporations that for sme reason still feel a tie to Newark It is sad. Ithink that Neark has the highest percentage of its population on the dole after maybe Detroit. If you want to see socialism at work, just look at Newark. Everyone “gets” and nobody “gives”.

      I agree with Puck30. I‘m from the Pacific Northwest BUT I’m a huge fan of the Govenor’s. The mess we have here in Washington State is frightful, perhaps just 2nd to NJ, not to mention in the Nation!

      @contrarian, The first set of posters that you chastised perhaps did go a little overboard but overall their tone was ‘humorous’. Seeing Christie on Oprah was a bit unbelievable to me also, especially since she was The person to put him over the time in the 2008 election. Even I worry that Christie will be polluted in some way; you don’t dive in a pool of manure and come out smelling like roses. What most of us have learned over the years is not to trust until you see their fruit. “Be gentle as lambs and wise as serpents.” We try to make our realms of influence a better place, but we must remember that evil is always lurking, waiting for an opening.
      I haven’t the foggiest idea what is wrong with the second group of posters nor why you rebuked them. It seems to me they are speaking from personal experience in Newark. I have 2 theories though. Either you are a devoted Oprah fan or you’re a progressive in conservative clothing.

      Yeah, and where are the green backs from Oprah? huh? .. like she couldn’t afford a measly $100 mil. .. that’s chump change for her. But do you think you will ever see her do that? hell, she didn’t even kick out the dough for that Australian trip for her studio audience, the Australian tax payers had to foot the bill for that.

      Oprah is a disgusting individual. She needs to retire and disappear…

      She needs the ratings, so she has Christie on. Not that she agrees with him or actually believes what he says. Everyone thinks she is so great and charitable, but if you ask the Australians, they will tell you a different story. She needs the ratings since they have been going to the crapper ever since her socialist mantra started coming out. I know, it‘s Bush’s fault, right? At least that is what her Messiah tells her.

      I am proud to say that in all the years she has been on the ait I have not wasted an hour of my life watching her drivel. I haven’t ever seen the view either. Just clips that let me know i DON’T want to see either.

      I can‘t beleive the posts I’m seeing!!!! A wonderful idea that brings unity and focus on etting quality education and you;ll are dissing Oprah??? Turning a positive event into a ******* match. Oprah didn’t have to have this show. It certainly makes Christie look good and of true leadership capabilities. Christie is seen in a very different light than what most of the MSM is trying to paint him.

      God gelp us IF you’ll are a random sample of Constitutionalists. SHAME ON YOU. I HAVEN’T BEEN THIS DISGUSTED IN YEARS.

      I just don’t know what to think about this…. My first thought of course is, whew. At least NJ won‘t be coming with hand out to Obama for another bailout of the teacher’s unions with my tax dollars. Then I’m reminded of the Detroit school system where 56 million dollars just disappeared. No investigation by the DOE. What did they do? Sent another 200 million to be embezzled in the Stimulus bill. However, I cannot imagine Christie allowing that to happen. So who knows. It might have a chance as long as our Federal Department of Education stays out of it. Education has not been crap since it‘s inception in the 1970’s (thanks Jimmy).
