During a press conference this afternoon to address logistical concerns surrounding Hurricane Irene’s approaching descent on the Northeastern U.S., New Jersey Governor Chris Christie warned beach-goers to, “get the hell off the Beach in Asbury Park and get out.”
“You’re done. It’s 4:30 PM. You’ve maximized your tan. Get off the beach. Get in you cars and get out of those areas.”
Perhaps Christie figured he ought to be extra stern in the event members of the Jersey Shore were out tanning, unaware of the impending hurricane.
Watch Christie deliver his evacuation orders below:

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 9:12pmI remember seeing a photo of Michelle Obama with her one fist in the air looking scarily like Angela Davis of the 60′s, long before “the first time I felt proud to be an American” speech. Guess she is still trying to get “pay back” from the American people by running up the national debt. This might be growing into the first time I didn’t feel proud of an American first lady, regardless of party.

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 9:11pmI’m from Indiana, too. Sadly, where he is there are a lot more lefties who’d go out to the beaches just to make him carry out that threat. That would put a lot of other people at risk. I’m tempted to say something awful, like, “How’s that survival of the fittest working for you?” Yeah, that felt good. ;-)

Posted on August 28, 2011 at 5:10pmI agree. The Northeast thinks they set the tone, decide what’s best, which candidate is smart enough, and often with a profane, sarcastic condescension. Ergo Chris Christie. New Jersey conservatives don’t seem all that impressed with this RINO online. I find him bombastic and full of bluster. Talk about throwing your weight around. Coulter is wrong. Posted on August 26, 2011 at 8:06pmI’m not so sure that Gov Christie was out of line…I saw on the NBC nightly news at 6:55pm, they were reporting from Point Pleasant Beach NJ and they showed several families playing in the tidal pools, the comments were that the beaches were to be clear and that it was illegal to be there..yet there were children playing right along the coast…What is wrong with these people, why should rescue personnel put there butts on the line when clearly, people are just plain stupid and stubborn…
Report Post »starman70
Posted on August 27, 2011 at 2:25pmI agree! Gov. Christie must have been directing his comments to all the liberal / socialists living in New Jersey. The gov. has to talk to them like a parent does to small children because the liberal /socialist intellect is equivalent to that of a small child. That’s the only way he can get through to them.
As to the cast of “Jersey Shore” talking to them won’t help. Thet must be led by the hand like infants, as the whole premise and intelligence level of the show’s participants indicates. The storm will take away the sun so they can’t tan but I wonder if MTV can afford to move their washing machines or gym equipment to a secure location.

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 7:51pmAll right, I can pretty much understand where Chris Christie is getting at with Hurricane Irene drawing nigh, but he was being utterly condescending in his warning about the incoming windstorm. The beach-goers know when it’s time to close up shop and when there in serious danger of being blown away.

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 8:24pmI don‘t know if I’m yet a Christie fan or not but I do wonder, and not to be arguementative, would his words have been condescending to the idiots in Catrina who refused to leave. You only get one shot at these things to be right, and Irene does appears to be a fizzle, but it could have so easily gone the other way as we’ve seen here many times. When everything east of I-95 is underwater, as was the case during Floyd here in NC, why would you quibble because some fat politician has asked you to exercise a little caution that might save your life or a rescuer?

Libertarians don’t want to be told not to live on the edge or not take risks. That is for the Individual to decide.
Hmm… ‘Individual’ kind of has a Constitutional tone to it, don’t you agree?
I actually went out to the beach in a minimal hurricane, with 75 mile an hour sustained winds !
It was an incredible experience, and I am glad I did it. We had to avoid downed power lines as we made our way to the beach. I saw one individual come around a corner and get lifted about a foot off the ground, and thrown about 15 feet. He was not injured. He was drunk and in deep sand. We had to have clear acetate sheets to see. We were getting sandblasted. There was no danger from flying debris, due to the fact the wind was coming from the the direction of water. It was great !! Once in a lifetime experience!!!

“Idiots were not taking them seriously and still playing on a beach that’s supposed to be evacuated.”
Hmmm, maybe these so-called “idiots” are factoring in the possibility that the warnings might be FALSE ALARMS. As I mentioned earlier, the beach-goers know when they‘re under the threat of a hurricane and will depart from the beach when feel that they’re really in danger.
“If you’re doing that, then you NEED to be condescended to.”
In other words, you’re saying that if I were to remain at the beach despite warnings of a possible hurricane, I’m a stupid person. I find this statement to be offensive and condescending in itself. But, hey, nothing like enjoying a day of being a steer that simply loves to be ordered around and strong-arming intelligent, self-governing folks into becoming part of the servile herd, right? How disheartening.

In all reality I think you have given your warnings, and you can continue to give your warnings. If I don’t want to leave my property that would be my choice, maybe I am jobless and don’t care anymore….let me take my chances, at least i can say (if I survive) I was in the eye of a hurricane.
If Obama said this there would be plenty of words like dictator, nazi being posted here…..and I would be right along with you saying these things, just as I am saying them about Christie right now. Get off your high horse buddy…you aint the boss of me…..hahahahaha
“Ohhhhh but then we would have to spend money on rescue….blah blah blah….” well the right thing to do would also warn that there would be no rescue attempts so make your choices quick…..Saddly he wont do that because there are no term limits, and saying something like that could hurt his career……sorry Christie….I like your politics 98% of the time….just speaking my mind about your remarks..

Posted on August 26, 2011 at 11:28pmUmmm…Gov. Christie was referring to the people with their children, who were still playing on the beach after they had been ask to evacutate. Not property owners who were boarding up windows, and taking care of business.. I don’t live in NJ either, but after reading some of these comments…I understand why Gov. Christie has to use “that tone” with people. In the South, where I live, people well understand the power of a hurricane, and also understand that they will be putting first responders lives at risk as well, if they have to be rescued. Hurricanes are unpredictable. Most hurricanes don’t follow the exact path the forecasters predict. It‘s just common decency and good common sense to leave when your State’s Gov requests it.

That is why Katrina was such a mess way to many people chose to ignore the warnings and stayed home then when they ended up on their roofs they blamed the government namely Bush and it was never Bushes responsibility it was the States responsibility never Bush.
So if you want to drown or get blown away just remember you made the choice the Government is not responsible but that wouldn’t stop you if you survived from suing for damages would it?

I agree with you to a point, warn them then let them die if they ignore the warnings…but I can’t help remembering listening to phone calls from during Katrina where children were dying because of their parents stupidity. I would go out to rescue a child, maybe not the idiot parent who put the child in danger…presumeably you could then teach the child not to ignore warnings!
