Comedy is meant to spur laughter, but some jokes simply go too far. That’s the budding consensus concerning a new parody video put out by Funny ofrDie. Entitled, “Legitimate Rape,” the clip is intended to take aim at Rep. Todd Akin (R-Missouri) (read about his contentious remark here) and is made to look like your typical, run-of-the-mill pharmaceutical commercial.
So, what’s the controversy about, you ask? We’ll let Gawker — an outlet that typically has no qualms about edgy humor — tell you:
Co-penned by and starring motion-capture actress Laura Napoli, the pretend-ad for a form of birth control called “legitimate rape” features a mock-rape scene that may bring the whole thing a little too close to home for some.
While Napoli speaks about “legitimate rape” in the mock ad, it is made to look like she is very literally being raped by an assailant who is dressed in black. The disturbing satirical scenario depicts the actress being knocked to the ground, where the horrific incident takes place. Later, she is punched in the face, further perpetuating a theme of violence.
Gawker called the ad “unrepentantly brutal.” Watch it, below, to decide for yourself whether or not Funny of Die went too far in staging the rape scene:
There are some other moments to note as well. A fake disclaimer in the video also pokes fun at Akin, vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan and others who weighed in on the legal definition of rape back in 2011. Here’s a screen shot showing that portion of the ad:
The video is also being advertised on Facebook on a targeted fan page with a slogan that reads, “We’re not Akin this up.” A description for the clip continues: “Do you suffer from Sexually Liberated Uterine Tendencies? Now there’s a treatment that can help.”
Oddly, after using rape as a tool to poke fun at Akin and Republicans, the video concludes with the line, “Sexual assault is a serious issue. If you need help visit www.RAINN.org…” Then, it notes that the production was not endorsed by RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) or any politician or organization, for that matter.
The final screen, though, is sure to present an image advertising the Facebook fan page for the ad as well as a hashtag that people can purportedly use to make it go viral (#LegitimateRapeAd).
What do you think? Too far? Let us know in the comments section, below.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 5:34pmLiberal platform: Let rapists and killers live (anti-death penalty as lethal injection is too cruel for such nice folks). Let babies get horribly and cruelly murdered through dismemberment and torture (pro-late term and partial birth abortion based on a sixteen year old’s desire not to have to change diapers and have unlimited unprotected sex.)
Yea, I can see where that kind of logic should rule the world and be considered a legitimate thought process. Combine that with taking a single sentence misspoken or misquoted for that matter, to slander your opponent with disregard to actual and long term evidence of intent and record and you have a living organism (probably not human) that not just anyone would vote for and someone who would produce a “ad” as disgusting and misleading as this at the expense of the legitimate rape victims of the world. Real class lefties. It takes a special kind of person to favor this kind of platform and tactics I like to call “clueless”.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 4:44pmI honestly wonder how many of the millions of “legitimate” rape victims found this to be anything but offensive. I’m male. I’ve only spoken with a number of women in my life who have endured this without satire being the tag line description and even I find it patently offensive. It’s about as appropriate as the use of the Twin Towers in Satire or a Political ads. Some subjects just don’t lend themselves to that sort of messaging, in my humble opinion.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 4:17pmDoes anybody not understand what he said? This just gets me. I feel that what is was referring to is that some women cry “rape” when there were in fact not raped and are just getting back at the dude. What I think he means is a woman who was actually attacked against her will. There is nothing wrong with that statement. Oh and Encinom, what is wrong with being the party that fights for life? Why oh why would you want to be for the party that supports death. So the woman has to live with the seed of the rape, why do you want to punish the little soul that is the product of the rape. If the baby is not wanted then adopt it out. Why do democrats want to result to killing first thing. I don’t get that. The democrats are for the most part the party of all that is wrong and vile in this world.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 3:27pmThe odd part is that the only large organized group anywhere the believes in “Legitimate Rape” are Muslims and the political party bending over backwards (pun intended) is the Demoncratic party. If many women put those two facts together, then they‘d realize that it’s the Demoncrats who have the “War on Women”. The only logical conclusion is that Akin is really a Demoncrat and these attacks are designed to deflect that reality.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 3:22pmIt is a deviant and reprobate mind that believes the term ‘legitimate’ meant to describe the RAPIST and not the woman ‘claiming’ rape. Only a deviant mind believes that any Republicans on the list WANT rape or believe that sex is just something to hurt woman with.
2 Timothy 3:8
Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
Liberals want you to be swayed by the term ‘rape’ plus ‘legitimate’ and not by Swayed by the truth that some women LIE. They do it out of weakness and usually some sort of deviant thoughts which lead them to want to HURT OTHERS or THEMSELVES. Anger and un-forgiveness are the common theme to these issues.
Wisdom is not in the liberal mind, they are pure emotional reaction and irrational statements. They are described well by the Word of God
Romans 1:
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, [edit]

Yeah… that wasn‘t Gawker’s position. They end the article with this quote:
“It isn’t supposed to be satire. Satire is when you take a real situation to the extreme for humor. This situation literally is what Akin and other repubs tried to write into law, and is what is on the GOP plank.”
I think it’s incredibly distasteful. Then again, I also think Akin should have been kicked out of the race precisely BECAUSE this kind of response was obviously going to happen. And a good amount of folks disagreed, said Akin was right and are glad he stayed in the race. I’m guessing they really cannot find much “wrong” with this video… and are likely nodding along silently with the “Disclaimer” graphic.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 2:46pmI’ll go with a bell curve argument. When women are raped some women are aroused. They can’t help it & they feel crappy afterwards & confused. Still angry & rightfully so but confused.
At the other end of the bell curve (tail) some women probably shut down. I would figure this is not a perfect bell curve . I would expect the former tail to be fatter than the other one.
Akins was stupid for saying what we was saying. There are cases of what he said but they are rare & furthermore it was a leftist group that 1st came up with that theory in the 70s.

The 3% of women who lie about rape (official FBI crime statistics, in case you want to research for yourselves) do not make the rest liars, @The_Jerk. Women who lie about being raped should be charged with filing a false police report and be held liable in civil court so the wrongly accused can sue them for emotional trauma.
Oh wait. They already are. Meanwhile, only 25% of raped women will ever see their rapist arrested.
