Grinch: Man Caught Stealing Toys for Tots Charity Box

Houston police are reportedly searching for The Grinch who stole Christmas — or at least a collection of money meant to purchase underprivileged children some educational toys for Christmas, collected by the U.S. Marines’ Toys for Tots literacy program.

The thief’s image was captured by security cameras at a local UPS store where the crime took place and police are hoping the video will help catch the criminal.

“The donations and everything collected here goes to the local community where we buy books for the young kids,” the store’s owner, Raj Patel, told KTRK-TV.

According to the local news reports, the man entered the store and asked to send a fax.  But when the clerk had his back turned, the man shoved the donation box under his shirt and down his pants before walking out.

“Honestly, I think it’s kind of sad because those kids need it more than we do, especially ’cause it’s Christmas time,” said Hadil Oweineh, the clerk on duty at the time.  To add insult to injury, the suspected thief later returned to the store to pay for his fax using money pilfered from the stolen donation box.

“I think it’s desperate times, maybe. Or he’s an amateur. I don’t know. Maybe he needed the money more than everyone else,” Patel said.

In all, the store’s owner estimates that donation box contained about $150.

    The fax machine we had in our office (I’m retired) stored the numbers the fax went to. I wonder if their going to be able to trace the fax he sent and locate him that way. He is a sorry piece of trash, but he will probably only get a slap on the wrist if they catch him. May God Bless. P.S. give us the name of the store and I’ll send them a donation to replace what was stolen.

    Now, obviously I have no way of knowing this for sure, but I feel relatively certain that the area’s little kids who are living in poverty are losing a lot more than this idiot would have if he had just walked away- or better yet, when he came back to pay for the fax (unreal!), he could have brought back the box and given some kid a reason to believe that somebody, somewhere, cares.

      That would be twist as you usually do. It was not a death prayer maybe you have a death wise and wish it was so… your demented mind shows lack of proper and accurate interpretation…

      As for the name PATEL there are three who have been caught for crimes in Texas alone. Two are brothers I think and at least one left West Texas to Dallas area where he was found to be over charging Medicare, yeah a doctor. So look behind the counter first for a connection…does the MSBUTCH_er know these 3 little pigs

      Seriously? You’re suspicious of the name Patel? If so, you really need to get out more. Patel is an Indian name, and those Hindus are a decent and harmless bunch. As for crimes, how many “smiths” or “jones” were arrested for crimes? Patel is a more common name among Indians than Smith is among Americans. My college graduation, in the US, actually had more Patels than it di Smiths and Jones combined.
