Groundhog Day? In New National Poll, Giuliani Leads the Pack

Will former NYC-mayor Rudy Giuliani throw his hat into the 2012 presidential race? That’s still to be determined. But, earlier today, the Sept. 11 hero and 2008 presidential candidate found himself at the top of the Republican pack.
The results of CNN’s most recent survey indicate that 16 percent of GOP adherents and independents who lean toward the Republican Party prefer Giuliani. Falling right behind him comes Mitt Romney (15 percent) and Sarah Palin (13 percent). While these numbers, at the least, show some voter goodwill toward Giuliani, they may spell trouble for a party that hopes to recapture the White House next year. As CNN reports:
Two of the three people at the top of new national poll in the battle for the Republican nomination may not even run for the White House. And a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey also suggests that there is not a lot of enthusiasm about any of the major candidates.
The takeaway? Voters are still undecided. Let’s not count out Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain and all of the other candidates who plan to give it their best shot. With the campaign sluggishly moving forward, there’s still plenty of time for stars to both rise and fall.
If you recall, back in 2007, Giuliani also found himself leading his rivals, but he inevitably lost that battle, leaving Republicans to nominate Sen. John McCain (and we know how that story ended).
A few days ago, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) added some fuel to Giuliani’s potential candidacy, telling journalists that he believes the former mayor will, indeed, jump into the race. King claims that Giuliani and his team have learned from their 2008 mistakes and that New Hampshire is the key. Interestingly, Giuliani is headlining the state’s Republican dinner this evening. You can see King’s comments below:
So, will he or won’t he? Anything’s possible in American politics. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Posted on May 27, 2011 at 8:24pmDon’t mistake difficult to defend positions for difficult to find candidates.
Charisma won’t get Medicare replacement coupons past seniors, nor will “guts” be confused for wisdom when it comes to extending tax cuts for billionaires at the expense of the deficit. Unless the GOP nominates a hypnotist these positions are going to be nearly impossible to justify to the majority. Not to mention healthcare repeal, outlawing abortions, elimination of social safety nets, de-funding the EPA, accusing the president of being an un-American terrorist appeaser, demolishing unions, curtailing unemployment benefits, reducing higher education assistance, etc.
The chef isn’t the problem, its the crap-sandwiches the GOP primary voters are forcing the chefs to prepare for people that don’t like the flavor of crapola. It matters not that they’re easier to keep down while guzzling tea. The majority of Americans don’t drink tea either.

Posted on May 27, 2011 at 9:13pmToo early to get upset about Rudy or anyone else at this point. Polls are so unreliable, especially from CNN or any other lib outpost. I want to listen to what they all have to say. So I sure hope there are alot of debates coming up. In 2008, Obama came out of left field (pun intended) and took the nomination. Maybe there is a conservative waiting to do the same thing. Bring it on.
Report Post »ByrdsofMisssouri
Posted on May 27, 2011 at 9:15pmINTELLECTUAL HONESTY: I will give you the one on Medicare, especially since they need money for the gay film festival, 47% of Americans do not pay taxes, in fact if you have enough children round here you can receive 3000 to 10000 in returns, after you don’t pay taxes. Last time I checked the majority does not want obamacare, and the rest are getting waivers. If you can live with the idea of killing babies, fine, don’t ask me to be an accomplice by paying for it. Social safety nets should only be for American citizens. I don’t know what Obama is, other than he is not a leader. Unions are demolishing America, and they are buying politicians. Unemployment would not need to be extended if there were any jobs. Higher education? profession college students, course you can’t blame them, no jobs. The epa have put as many if not more people out work than this Administration.

Posted on May 27, 2011 at 10:50pmYou’re missing the point, if Obama is really supporting some of the worst policies in the history of the country, and logic made it very easy to draw a bright line between U.S. failure and Obama, than a GOP landslide should be a snap right?
The fact is, positions GOP primary voters care about are not shared by the majority of Americans. Moreover, the demonizing of Obama may go down like a cool drink to many of you, but most of the country is rather fond of the man, particularly when contrasted to Bush and the GOP. Of course, try to convince people of your wisdom, and win or lose the next election in a battle of ideas. But again, when the ideas you espouse are dismissed as “bad” so easily…and by so many, then the GOP is going to face a tough go of it. And hey, I’ll even grant you that plenty of the GOP candidates seem capable, but if the majority of voters are put off by their ideas- I‘m afraid you’re going to need to find a magician. I wonder if the Amazing Kreskin is a Republican? Heck, it wouldn’t hurt to give him a call at this point.

Screw the GOP establishment and their tired, predictable stable of RINOs, and screw the folks who say Ron Paul can‘t win because he doesn’t look or act like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Those methods of thinking worked so well last time they were tried, didn’t they…
Obama has done more to wake up folks to the importance of following the Constitution and Bill of Rights than any president at least in my lifetime, and for the republican party to squander that re-instituted constitutional fervor on a RINO would show exactly where they stand, should it work out that way. I’d rather stay home on election day and prepare for the resultant communist revolution Obama will likely bring us than vote for the lesser of two evils. Again.

Posted on May 28, 2011 at 11:57amI’ll re-elect Obama before I vote for Giuliani. I’d rather keep Obama in office then to put a fake conservative into office. By doing so, we will not get better as a country but rather just give the democrats more ammunition to win back the power in 2016 or 2020. It’ll go back and forth, back and forth as per usual. I’d rather let Obama keep screwing things up so we can finally have a real conservative like Ron Paul, or his son, in office.
