Guess Which State Pays $6.03 per Gallon in Gas Prices?

If you’re looking for a scenic beach spot to spend your summers in, but are worried about about high gas prices, then stay away from Hana, Hawaii.
The Daily Beast reports on the city that may well have the highest gas price in the U.S.:
Think your last fill-up was bad? Just be glad you don’t live in Hana, Hawaii. Residents and visitors to the tiny but scenic town have passed a milestone, reaching $6.03 per gallon. And Furnace Creek Resort in California’s Death Valley is just a little over a quarter behind, at $5.75 per gallon. Notwithstanding the sudden shift of attention to the death of Osama bin Laden, gas prices are becoming a major political issue that could shape the landscape ahead of the 2012 presidential election. Across the country, consumers are increasingly focused on the price of filling up the tank.
What is it with beautiful locales and high gas prices? The LA Times lists another scenic route to avoid if you’re looking to keep your gas bill down:
You also might skip the scenic drive along Highway 190 in Death Valley, which will lead you to the Furnace Creek Resort, where regular was selling for $5.75 a gallon Tuesday.
“It’s a resort. They charge what they want,” said Raymond, a fellow who declined to give his last name and said he answers the phone at the Furnace Creek Chevron now and then. “Don’t come here for the gasoline.”
Guess those of us paying between $3-$4 a gallon shouldn’t complain.

Posted on May 4, 2011 at 10:51pmHowzit, SEARCH. Where you at? I’m in Kihei. Anyways, I was gonna say abt the same thing (I actually sent an email directly to Glenn abt 1 1/2 weeks ago showing the Hana gas price – it was $6.08). I’d also like to add that we are an almost exclusively Dem state (and always have been). Our Gov. has been associated w/Socialists and we’re heavily unionized. We pay not only a state income tax, but a General Excize Tax, as well – on EVERYTHING, including FOOD. We’re generally about 15th in monies spent/student, but consistently remain at 49th in education. We’re 1st in childhood poverty. We also have a terrible homeless problem, our roads are crappy, almost every state or county construction project has to be torn down and rebuilt because of crappy construction. The list goes on (including what SEARCH said about so many folks working multiple jobs – that’s because employers only have to pay – yes HAVE – to pay health insurance for anyone who works 20+ hours/wk, so they hire multiple folks to work 19 hrs/wk and folks get multiple jobs to get the hours). 50 years of progressive Dem rule, and this is it, this is all – this is what you all have to look forward to, PLUS a lot of you have crappy weather, to boot! lol. So, all you out there who think Obama‘s way’s the right way, try come live in HI for awhile (most peeps don’t last more than 2 years before some family member on the mainland has to bail them out and send them a ticket home).

Posted on May 4, 2011 at 10:33pmWith the price of gas going through the roof, why hasn’t some enterprising company begun to install natural gas filling stations, maybe along commuter routes? It should be relatively simple to install a natural gas conversion kit for autos, with a small tank, good for perhaps 100 miles of driving. Such a conversion could use natural gas as an ALTERNATE fuel, permitting the motorist go back to gasoline when the natural gas runs out. I‘d be happy to ’fill-up’ even daily, if it were convenient enough, to save a substantial amount on the cost of gasoline! It would be really neat if you could install a small compressor at home and ‘fill-up’ overnight from your natural gas line! Just pop a hose into the back of your car and let it fill-up silently overnight (might take 30 minutes)! The tax people could require an odometer enrollment if they are worried about being left out! This would roll out quicker than electric vehicles and use the cheapest, most pleniful and cleanest combustion fuel available. And every gasoline engine in use could be converted to a dual-fuel system–you don’t have to buy a new car!!!

I agree that these prices are all part of a plan, a bad plan. Most people here work 2 or 3 jobs just to put food on the table etc. Gas is just one of our problems.

Posted on May 4, 2011 at 9:36pm“In 1997, 400 African-American farmers sued the United States Department of Agriculture, alleging that they had been unfairly denied USDA loans due to racial discrimination during the period 1983 to 1997.”
The case was entitled “Pigford vs. Glickman” and in 1999, the black farmers won their case.
The government agreed to pay each of them as much as $50,000 to settle their claims.
But then on February 23, 2010, something shocking happened in relation to that original judgment: In total silence, the USDA agreed to release more funds to “Pigford”.
The amount was a staggering…… $1.25 billion. This was because the original number of plaintiffs – 400 black farmers had now swollen, in a class action suit, to include a total of 86,000 black farmers throughout America.
There was only one teensy problem:
The United States of America doesn’t have 86,000 black farmers!!!!
According to accurate and totally verifiable Official USDA 2007 Census census data, the total number of black farmers throughout America is only 39,697.
Hmmm….. by the Official USDA 1992 Census data the US had only 18,816 black farmers!!
Oops!!
Well, gosh – how on earth did 39,697 explode into the fraudulent 86,000 claims??
And how did $50,000 explode into $1.25 billion??
Well, folks, you’ll just have to ask the woman who not only spearheaded this case because of her position in 1997 at the “Rural Development Leadership Network”, but whose family received the highest single payout (approximately $13 million) from that action – Shirley Sherrod.
Oops again!!
Yes, folks it appears that Ms. Sherrod had just unwittingly exposed herself as the perpetrator of one of the biggest fraud claims in the history of the United States – -
a fraud enabled solely because she screamed racism at the government and cowed them into submission.
And it gets even more interesting…
Ms. Sherrod has also exposed the person who aided and abetted her in this race fraud.
As it turns out, the original judgment of “Pigford vs. Glickman” in 1999 only applied to a total of about 16,000 black farmers.
But….in 2008, a junior US Senator got a law passed to reopen the case and allow more black farmers to sue for funds.
The Senator was Barack Hussein Obama..
Because this law was passed in dead silence, and because the woman responsible for spearheading it was an obscure USDA official, American taxpayers did not realize that they had just been forced in the midst of a worldwide recession to pay out more than $1.25 billion to settle a race claim.
But Andy Breitbart knew. And on Monday, July 22, 2010, he cleverly laid a trap which Sherrod – - and Obama + his cronies – - stumbled headfirst into which has now resulted in the entire world discovering the existence of this corrupt financial judgment.
Report Post »As for Ms. Sherrod?? Well, she‘s discovering too late that her cry of ’racism’ to the media which was intended to throw the spotlight on Breitbart

And if it’s bad for the environment over there I guess thats ok because its way over there, right? How do you think this nation will possibly stand against someone like obama when people like you are tearing it down and dividing us? We should be banding together against obama not calling for a boycott of a small little state like Hawaii that only survives because of tourism. Am I understanding you correctly? Crooked politicians exist everywhere, including Hawaii, but do not punish the people that live here. We are not all liberals either. Direct your anger and hate where it belongs please. I heard him comment on Saudi, saying that it don’t matter much for them, they have $100k per capita, per year, so it won’t matter them. So I guess if you are rich he wouldn’t be able to squeeze until we are poor and repent of our evil ways of being a selfish, and driving gas eating dinosaurs. 1) Allow drilling in U.S. Territory and to have the EPA (FED) quit trying to stop it.
Report Post »2) Forbid speculation of oil unless the speculators take delivery of the oil they are speculating on. (They must take delivery of it, not just say that they can.) This will take speculation out of the market almost entirely.
3) Reduce the number of blends of gasoline in the U.S. to 8 instead of the nearly 100 required by various states. Two blends (one summer and one winter) for the northern climates, the mid-north, the mid-south and the southern climates. This will reduce the change over costs for refineries.
4) Allow new more effective refineries to be built. We haven’t had a new one since Carter was in office.
5) Stop the FED from printing so much damned money. The more they print, the less each dollar is worth. The less each dollar is worth, the more that those producing the oil want for the oil. Oil prices go up almost equal to the value of the dollar declining. (Mark the decline against gold, not other world currencies.)

Posted on May 4, 2011 at 9:49pmOil producers make 2¢ a gallon, Federal tax per gallon is 60¢. Still oil producers reel huge quarterly profits, how? By selling a ton of gasoline? Where does this tax money go to, to fix roads only? 2009 budget was 72 billion for transportation department, no budget in 2010 because the Democrats were to busy buying at Needless Markup to bother to do a budget. That’s roughly 138 billion gallons of gas taxes worth, estimated. The national yearly consumption rate is @146 billion gallons per year, so were close on numbers, good. BUT the budget says 72 billion was allocated, not tax revenue, is that over and above the 92.4 billion they get from the gas tax? What are the expenditures?

No matter what “bubble” we seem to get, it would not affect the economy nearly as much if we wouldn’t have spikes in energy. When gas goes over $4.00 a gallon this country will once again be brought to the brink of collapse. I for one absolutely can not afford it. It is already changing our spending and savings habits. What it comes down to is which do people want the most, energy independance, or a socialist and progressive country that will turn into a nightmare of epic proportions.
We face so many major and tough challenges, the true leaders of the country will be those who are willing to face and make the tough choices happen. Or we will go into the night with a wimp at the helm of the ship.
One possibility to consider:
In late ‘11 or early ’12, Obama will decide to let permits for offshore drilling to ‘go forth and prosper’ and if he becomes the second term POTUS, promptly have them yanked. Perfect political move on his part.

Posted on May 4, 2011 at 11:08pmDon’t worry, most of the state has gas prices at only $4.50 or so. Certainly not driving any more than necessary, just going surfing and to the grocery store, luckily work at home.

Posted on May 4, 2011 at 11:13pmOh by the way, Hana, where these prices are is on Maui miles away from anything, it’s a 3 + hour drive to get there on a narrow winding road with no other gas station for miles or hours away, so they can justify the price, I guess.

Posted on May 5, 2011 at 12:49amAmericans better get used to paying ten to 15 dollars a gallon for gas. Thats where we are headed.
Report Post »And it wont make a difference how they vote. We will have 20 dollar a gallon gas and 95% unemployment before people even begin to wake up.
Just turn on the ball game and grab another beer. Obama 2012.
