‘Gun’ Hand Gesture Gets Oklahoma 1st-Grader Suspended

An Oklahoma 1st-grader was reportedly suspended from school earlier this month after making a gun gesture with his fingers.
The boy’s mother, Lydia Fox, says the principal at Parkview Elementary called her earlier this month to tell her that her 7-year-old son had misbehaved during a school assembly by pretending to shoot a gun. As a result, the principal said the young boy would be placed in in-school suspension and face a more harsh punishment if it happened again.
Midwest City-Del City Schools spokeswoman Stacey Boyer confirmed to the Associated Press that the incident took place and said the district’s policy is to “address the disruption of the learning environment.“ The young boy ”has repeatedly used his hands to simulate a gun,” Boyer added.

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 5:30pmWe punish first-graders for making a gun-gesture with their hands, and we allow MTV to create child-pornography. We have a zero-tolerance for first graders, but we allow people like Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and Al Sharpton to commit libel and slander, and make racist statements over the airwaves. We have become a people that says that it is day, when it is really night, black when it is white. We call evil good, and good evil. I think that our Father in Heaven has just about run out of patience with us. 2012 may indeed be the end of the world of evil, and the dawn of a new, kinder, gentler era.

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 5:27pmUggg here it comes….
The kid was misbehaving, goofing off when he shouldn’t, doing inappropriate things, not listening to his instructors.
What can get kids suspended? Chewing gum in class, cursing, using the middle finger, sticking tongue out, making rude noises, constantly picking their noses, goofing off during study time or assembly time. Majority gets unnoticed by the media
Kid does same thing as above but uses rude “gun gesture” and gets same punishment as gum chewing, rude gesture poses and suddenly it becomes 2nd amendment NRA, hate schools, hate teachers, civil rights, govt PC, Liberalism take over, and Red meat fodder for conservative bloggers.
Report Post »MidwestMomof3
Posted on January 21, 2011 at 5:41pmI never suspended a child for chewing gum, sticking their tongues out, etc. I *did* suspend children for excessive foul language and direct threats to other students or staff. I also was at the 7th and 8th grade levels, so much older than this and much more likely to have the issues come up. In one school year we suspended 4 students. Wow! We must be a bunch of whiners who suspends students at the drop of a hat for little crap.

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 6:04pmMy school gave out suspensions quite often. usually 1 day suspension, up to 3 days. Rarely a week and 2 incidents of expulsion where a kid brought a tazer to school and another caught with drugs in his backpack. Detentions were common mostly for tardiness, but treated like study halls and mostly filled with repeat offenders. Anything over a tardy was the 1 day suspension.
Some schools are strict. I can imagine private catholic schools being = in strictness when it comes to disciplining disruptive classroom behavior.
I don’t care if the kid is 7, rules are rules, and there’s a time and place for goofing off, its called recess, not during class or assembly. By gosh, imagine if he was acting like a brat during the pledge of allegiance?

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 5:30pmNO they can’t spank anymore in schools. Why? its because parents don’t want schools to discipline their children, but when their child acts up due to lack of discipline, the parents play the victim and blame the schools

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 5:25pmI really think it’s not about the hand gesture. I remember when the shooting hand gesture was a sign of agreement, as if you were saying to someone “right-on, I’m with you. It’s about the thought police controlling freedom of expression. An adult would never be arrested for a hand gesture. Kids get “arrested” and punished. What do think these kids will be conditioned to do? They are being conditioned to do what they are told when they become adults.

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 5:56pmI can understand the two sides of homeschool and public school. I had to attend the public schools as my parents decided my sister was to go to private school (I am adopted into the family), so it was good old public schooling for me.
The best part of it was the library, and most of my education I picked up was helped by my grandpa. Try going through school at the time where you are finished with the work by the end of the class, and able to read a book on other subjects – usually for me on the next class lesson or next class in high school. The alternative was being bored out of my mind.
I have seen great homeschooled kids, and some bad ones – so like public school, the results depend on what goes into the childrens heads, and how much time the teachers are willing to work with them, in addition to how good the teachers are.

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 6:12pmToo late, it has already ruined the country and for some time now. I know some of the folks and like Beck have in recent years awakened from their slumbers but I slumber not. I have been fully aware of the transformation of our country that has been taking place over the past 40 years and acutely aware of its incessant nature.
God forbid this kid grow up to be a killer! Society has got to make him aware of how bad what he is doing is. Really? That simply is an over reaction and will in fact make this kid worse off. Why? The negative attention will be on this kid for years to come from other kids. They will tease him about this for years, and that unwarranted teasing will lead little Johnny Gunslinger down a road filled with more tension than need be.
Don’t push, don’t play to hard, watch your step you might fall, where is your helmet, do you have permission to be on that swing? What swing there all gone! Then somebody is going to say, but you don’t understand, we‘ll get sued if he actually does shoot somebody and they’ll probably be right. Thats what we asked for when we started on the road to make everyone safe. Please do away with cars, heavy equipment and airliners then. Give me a break.
Sad to say, but ladys, your a big part of the problem that has led us to this point. You simply cannot understand that boys are different than girls and expecting boys to act like girls has hurt this country more than we’ll ever know. Where are the male teachers? Do you realize that boys almost from K to12 never have a male teacher? Now its bad enough that so many young men come from single parent homes, raised by mom that they never have a sense of how to be a man. Its got to be fustrating for young boys coming of age in this country, I really feel for you and I have no solutions other than to turn the country back over to men and let them correct our course, but that won’t work either because the real men in this country have departed long ago and are sissyfied to no end. Posted on January 21, 2011 at 9:41pmMom should send him to school in NRA, Second Amendment, and local hunting & gun club themed T-shirts.
Where is this school again? SanAngeles? I’ve got to ask, because this stupid crap sounds like a bad remake of Demolition Man.
Do you Progressive know what you are? You’re all a bunch of “Assistant Bob” clones to Obama’s “Dr. Raymond Cocteau”!!
To Progressives I say, in the (slightly edited) words of Dennis Leary:
“You see, according to the Progressive’s plan, I’m the enemy, ’cause I like to think; I like to read. I’m into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I’m the kind of guy who likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, “Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?” I WANT high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green Jell-o all over my body reading Playboy magazine and carrying a Glock 19. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I’ve SEEN the Progressive future. Do you know what it is? It’s an unarmed, broke, and powerless 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake and filling out endless government forms while singing “I’m an Oscar Meyer Wiener”. “
THAT is the future the Progressives want for kids; “Assistant Bob”.
Be well…Ya Progressive jackwagons!

Posted on January 21, 2011 at 10:26pmThats the problem with our schools now a days the school board has lost any sight of common sense!!!
We need to fire all of them and replace them with people THAT HAVE NOT gone to a liberal college to be taught how not to use common sense in a case like this.
What happen to the days when a kid could just be a kid and dream and play act and not have to worry about being PC or hurting someone else’s feeling.
The school needs to let the kids be kids and while i am at it another thing we need to do is STOP giving our kids medication for ADD.
When i was a kid WE NEVER had anything like that at all, if you acted out in class the teacher would spank your ass but now a days we just feed the kids drugs and keep them stoned so they are not a problem for the teacher but being stoned they kid will NEVER LEARN ANYTHING and grow up to be a huge burden on the tax payers when he ends up in jail because he cant find a job because he never learned anything in school because he was STONED ALL THE TIME!!!!!
We as a country need to get back to basics, not only in our schools but in our lives too, alot of the problems we are facing now can be traced back to the removal of faith in our lives the breakdown of the family unit and the total lack of discipline in our schools and until we return back to what worked we will keep producing kids like the lost soul who shot the congresswoman last weekend.

Posted on January 22, 2011 at 2:32amPeople have left the Truth for a lie; they have forsaken God and now cannot count on his protection. So they are scared of shadows and react to innocence with exaggerated measures. They do not believe in an internal moral restraint provided by a belief in God so they think they have to establish an external one. Their foolishness is exposed every time a student is suspended for a drawing, a butter knife, or a finger weapon. Make no mistake: reactions like these are born out of a denial of the authority of God.

Posted on January 22, 2011 at 6:21amWe are watching a complete failure of any resemblence of common sense here. The people responsible for imposing such a punishment on a 6 year old are acting like little children, themselves. How is such nonsense possible where cool heads should prevail. How could anyone entrust their children to this kind of immature supervission.

Posted on January 22, 2011 at 4:00pmMy 7 year old just informed me that he has also been punished and made to sit out for a while, for playing Army with his friends and using their finger as a gun. I told him if it happens again that I will do home schooling. These boy’s love their Country and love to play soldiers, we need these red blooded kids to be brought up with love for their freedom and Country. This is child’s play, as we all did as children. The use of imagination and love for Country, they are taught to stand up for the little guy that is being bullied. Now they are sighting them and keeping records to label them haters and violent?? Looks like our Government wants little feminine boys taught about Homosexuality in the classes??
Report Post »What makes me the most angry is that they can’t play normal boy games, but they can watch MTV sexual pornography and nobody says a thing. We all need to call out this backwards way of thought. I block all of the trash channels on our TV and intend to stand up for the freedom’s of our children and against the indoctrination of our children at school. I am also so sick of seeing Michelle Obama’s face on every commercial, telling my son to eat right and save the planet with all that green garbage. How much is that Advertising costing the tax payers? We teach our children ourselves and much better than she does, I might add. For those that aren’t then get busy. Enough said.
Why must they feed our kids at school, that’s the reason they are getting fat, because the parent’s feed them and then the school feeds them again. We don‘t trust them and they don’t trust us. I guess they insist we are to stupid to raise our own families?
