Gunman’s Former College Instructor: ‘I Was Afraid for My Life’

“I wasn’t too surprised that it was Jerry Loughner. I felt like he was planning something all along –  I just didn’t know when he was going to do it and where he was going to do it.  Just from what the other students said, and what I experienced in the classroom, I just thank God he did not do anything to us. It is very sad to hear what happened yesterday.”

Again, politically correct attitudes may have interfered with logic. A few examples of how “ politically correct ” has hampered most attempts at a reasonable approach to our public problems
    .
    1. Mental and emotional abuse, as well as physical abuse runs rampant throughout most sectors of society, yet when faced with overwhelming evidence that a problem exists, we hesitate because we may hurt someones feelings ( i.e “…..we must not hurt their fragile psyche.”…..”.It’s not my problem,”….“ Mind your own business”…….” Lets not teach this portion of history, it is much to traumatic for an adolescent”…..( what kind of answer do we get from the instructor as to “why didn‘t they notify the authorities about Loughner’s behavior”?) Is it much to easy to “sue” someone because they “cautioned your child” ? Could you stand the pain of another Tuscon knowing you should have been more vigilant in your watch for signs of trouble. Speak up, speak out, adults should be able to approach a mutual problem without anger or fear of dissention.

    2. .Some prosecutors had rather “plea deal” than to call a spade a spade ( they justify plea deals with )……” we didn’t have enough evidence to convict, plus offering and accepting “plea deals” is more economical and by-passes a long court case…….not to mention the number of ” notches on the District Attorny’s record ( he plans on running for political office and many convictions sells better than a “long drawn out judicial process ” Maybe we need to re-visit the “crime and punishment” arena again, scrap the sentencing quidelines and focus a bit more on “punishment” instead of the rehabilitation phase. A criminal should have to “graduate to the rehab phase” Also, the “ cruel and unusual punishment” argument probably doesn’t sound to good to the victims in Tuscon. Isn’t punishment a part of the “penal system” and isn’t a penality suppose to be severe enough to give pause to the criminal mind?

    3. Many school districts along with the Board of Education, will allow unqualified teachers, teachers placed in “ in house suspension” and morally corrupt educators to continue with extremely radical approaches to learning with immunity.( Example; One of the largest school systems in the nation will not or cannot fire a unionized teacher for sexual assault because ” it’s much easier to pay them to NOT teach than to battle the teacers union”. Allegedly, one teacher is running a real estate business while in “ suspension” using his laptop and cell phone, plus the system is still paying his salary. Supposedly, its not “ politically correct” to offend the unions.Concerned parents should demand to know precisely what is being taught in our schools with regard to the developement of a civilized society.

    4. Time outs, in your room restriction, grounding seem to be the way to go eh??
“ Time outs ” without a discussion of the “what, when, where and how, at times are useless.
“ In your room restriction” with unfettered access to TV, cell phone, iPod, loud music is
    barely a “teaching moment”
“ grounding ” without discussion only increases animosity.
How about a practical approach to the spirit of competition, the comraderie of teamwork and the feeling of accomplishment and success?
A certificate for participation in an activity or a sport. A TROPHY for the winners in any competition.
Foster good attitudes when talking about teamwork. The feeling of belonging to a group effort
    strengthens feelings of acceptance.
Frequent praise for a job well-done, guidance when an effort is made, and “attaboys.attagirls, kudos, applause, a wink and a hug will go a long way in the formation of good, honorable and responsibile relationships
JUST DO IT, Its the MORALY CORRECT thing to do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, this guy is not a professor, he‘s an instructor and he’s unqualified to make some of the assumptions about the observations he made. That said, the failure here in part is the higher ed system to deal with these students. i worked at a large university and “free speech” and the rights of the student (whatever they are) are paramount. I saw disturbed kids who had acted out returned to the classroom after “counseling” often by non-professionals because “there’s noting they can do” until the student acts out. This was the reply even after students acted out with violent or anti-social behavior directed at inanimate objects. As long as a faculty member or other student did not press charges, most often nothing was done.

HeavyDuty – Not arguing here, but I think you meant “psychics” not “physics”.

The fact that the shooter used a 9mm that completely passed through Congresswoman Giffords skull rather than a .22 that didn’t along with the fact that he shot her at close range were probably the physics that saved her life.

As for the psychics – well, that‘s a case of good ol’ 20/20 hindsight. People with latent hostility often give off “bad vibes” and people pick up on them. They are uncomfortable to be around, but people put it down to “feelings”, which in fact, is what they are. Then when something like this happens, they say “I never liked the guy. He was creepy.”

They did ban him from campus until he returned with a mental health evaluation. They‘re lucky it didn’t turn into a VA Tech type massacre. There is very little recourse for family members legally to get help with these situations. They have to commit a crime first or you have to prove they are a danger to themselves and others. That burden of proof is almost impossible. My family has been there, done that and two people lost their lives because of it.

This kid is mentally ill and its been reported he is heavily into pot. It is my understanding that the use of pot can bring on the symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia. The whole discord thing was ramped up when Clinton went out and Bush came in. The alinsky radicals went vehement when obama got to Washington.

It’s as if obama took his alinsky classes to the senate with him. Over the last 2 years it’s as if his Czars have been orchestrating a cohesive gel under the banner of General Soros….

There is no doubt that proressives and the Alinsky blueprint are the cause of the discord. They commit and then blame, blame, blame, blame –

One of their favorite scapegoats ids how Clinton was treated re lewinsky. lewinsky was about the most powerful man in the World proving he would say and do anything to not be found out. A recipe for manipulation and blackmail (during which jung il got 8 Bil for his nuke program btw).

Clinton’s own jihad was stopped and the progressives are so full of hate because of it. They demonize even the tea party which represents the enemy to their cause once again.. In truth they are attacking our founders and the basic principles they laid out. Witness the disdain for the reading of the Constitution. There are only two possible reasons for this gunman’s actions if you are a progressive/leftist. Either he is a right-wing nut who hated the Deocratic Congresswoman, or he is simply a “victim” of the right’s rhetoric. No one on the left will hold this guy personally responsible for his actions unless it is found out that he is a conservative.

And those same people wonder why there is such discourse in our nation. When one side eliminates personal responsibility and simply blames the other side for EVERYTHING bad that happens in our country, of course the other side is going to rise up to dispute it!

There are only two possible reasons for this gunman’s actions if you are a progressive/leftist. ——————————————
Hey Rogue do you see the irony in your post? 90% of the replies in this thread are blaming the left as you subsequently do yourself “one side eliminates personal responsibility ”. Maybe the guy is just completely delusional, mentally ill and neither left or right. He may simply be insane. I agree with you. No wonder there is such NEGATIVE discourse in this country.

So many of our leaders? in Congress are talking about this discourse. Yet, they don’t even respect one another enough to be on the floor of Congress to ear what is being said. Often you’ll see a Representative or Senator speaking to an empty room. They might want to start right there and LISTEN to what the other guy has to say.

Evidence that has emerged ince the shooting in Arizona clearly shws that Jared Loughner was anything but “ mentally competent ”. However, mentl incompetency doesn’t mean someone is “ insane ”. Insanity is a state of unawareness of what’s right or wrong. Jared Loughner planned his attack and was fully aware of his actions and the consequences of those actions.
Until a little over two years ago, the “ silent majority ” was composed basically of right wing conservatives. However, after Barack Obama was elected the POTUS and push came to shove, the silent majority became vocal to protect our basic Constitutional rights and freedoms.
The left wing liberals and progressive communists always try to place the blame of violent tragedies on the right wing conservatives. However, it’s the left and not the right that is violente in their rhetorics, painting the conservatives a the “ enemies ” who must be punished by the left. Many of Barack Obama’s associates are self proclamed communists that call for revolution in America, either by peaceful or violent means.

      @Rob

Make that FOUR years ago. That’s when the Dems took over Congress. In fact, that’s when the US started going down hill.

Right on Rob! “change we can believe in” as stated by Barack Obama. Yes, the great one said that he was a uniter, and not a divider. I have never seen a president that is such a divider, not even Jimmy Carter was this lame. I tell you what change i have noticed in the last two years, the Democrat party! Will the real Dumbocrat please stand up! “Progressive”, pure, and simple.
