Hairstylist Refuses to Cut New Mexico Governor’s Hair Over Stance on Gay Marriage

Hairstylist Refuses to Cut New Mexico Governors Hair Over Stance on Gay Marriage | Susana Martinez | Antonio Darden

New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez addresses a joint session of the House and Senate at the start of the legislative session in Santa Fe, N.M., on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012. (AP Photo/Susan Montoya Bryan)

KOB-TV:

Governor Susana Martinez has lost a hair stylist thanks to her position against gay marriage.

Antonio Darden, a popular stylist who runs Antonio’s Hair Studio in Santa Fe, said he cut Martinez’ hair three times, but that’s it – unless she changes her mind about gay marriage.

“The governor’s aides called not too long ago, wanting another appointment to come in,” Darden said. “Because of her stances and her views on this I told her aides no. They called the next day, asking if I’d changed my mind about taking the governor in and I said no again.”

The governor has said she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman, and that does not cut it with Darden.

“I think it’s just equality, dignity for everyone,” the popular hair stylist said. “I think everybody should be allowed the right to be together. My partner and I have been together for 15 years.”

She won’t have to look far for another good hair stylist. She doesn’t need to patronize a fool who favors anybody having sex with anybody. Bravo, Gov! Only good thing about their relationship is that they’ll never produce offspring by sodomizing. Yuck.

As a Santa Fe resident myself, I see first-hand the rigid “if you‘re not with us you’re against us” attitude among the Left here. I‘ve had gay friends who told me that they won’t be my friend anymore because I’m indifferent about the gay marriage issue. One Thanksgiving I had a dinner planned but one person said he decided that he wouldn’t come because his gratitude was around the Democratic win (this was 2008) and he knew that I would be seething. With his departure everyone else cancelled as well. At another dinner party a guest stood up and said, “George Bush is a a-hole and I’m leaving.” The only reason why she didn’t go far was because her husband had the keys to the car, so she sat on the sofa and sulked the rest of the evening (and all this happened BEFORE I woke up politically). On a walk in my neighborhood a couple of months ago I welcomed a new neighbor. As we stood at the end of the driveway and chatted, he told me that all Republicans are racist. Santa Fe is a screwed up town. I’m not one bit surprised about this hair stylist. Too bad. I’ve been looking for a new stylist myself. Scratch him off my list.

I am as anti gay marriage as you can get, but I support the hair dressers option not to cut based on beliefs.

It would be interesting if we turned the tables though. If a restaurant turned down a bunch of gays and lesbians from having a group lunch, what would the MSM say.

I can tell you this, if I go to get my hair cut, and the person doing the cutting talks queer, I head out the door. I get to decide where I spend my money.

My brother lost a hair stylist in the Republic Of Vietnam over his comments about not trusting the local guy. shortly after that that local guy was found among the dead apparently he had led Victor Charles into camp. I see some similarity here. And agree she don’t need a Sodomite Hairstylist.

It‘s the hairdresser’s prerogative as a business person to deny service to anyone. I think he’s an idiot…but I support his exercise of his right as a business owner. I’m sure Gov. Martinez can find a suitable replacement. You see unlike the militant homosexual lobby…I‘m fine with a business owner taking a position on the issue and don’t need to mount an internet campaign to destroy the business owner. Homosexuals on the other hand have demonstrated time and again that they’re spiteful and willing to destroy the business.

“Civil Unions” are meant for people who desire recognition, typically centered around financial reasons or for some semblance of societal acceptance. Although I am completely against the concept of homosexuality (not the persons involved), I suppose there is a place in society for Civil Unions. That being said, “Marriage” is an institution that is meant to be between and man and a woman ONLY, before their Creator, God. If the homosexuals in question are God-fearing folk, they would NOT flaunt their lifestyle before God. If they are non-believers, then they do not care what our Creator thinks or says regarding their lifestyle. In short, Civil Unions are for non-believers; Marriage is for believers.

Hostility? What about his hostility toward her beliefs? So he’s going to force his alternative lifestyle on her religious beliefs? She’s not against his union with his partner. MARRIAGE is between a man and a woman. Perhaps the hairstylist shouldn‘t be so hostile to most other American’s beliefs. There are other hair stylist out there. In every strip mall in the state……I‘m sure this won’t set Susana back for too long. This guy is nothing special. Someone is hostile to someone elses beliefs and it isn’t the Governor.

In Iraq, we had hair salons on every base that wasn’t a “micro-F.O.B.” and on one base I was stationed at, there were openly gay males employed there. Myself and a few other soldiers would specifically request to have a female cut our hair because some of us were VERY uncomfortable with a gay male putting his hands anywhere on our bodies.

The glorified barber has a right to refuse service to anyone. But if the shoe was on the other foot and a barber refused service to a sexual pervert, there would be law suits and a media storm.
