‘Hallucinatory Uncle From America’: Israeli TV Promotes Left Group’s Plans for Anti-Beck Protests

Israel-based reporter Sharona Schwartz is monitoring media coverage of the Beck events from Jerusalem:

“Hallucinatory” and possessing an “imaginary world.” Those are just some of the choice words being used to describe Glenn Beck among left wing activists and in the local mainstream media as preparations are at a climax for the Restoring Courage event Wednesday.

The left-wing group Peace Now posted a call to members to join a demonstration against Glenn outside the site in the Old City of Jerusalem. In a video posted on their Facebook page called “Don’t Butt in, Glenn Beck,” they say, “The extreme broadcaster from America is the darling of the Israeli right” whose leaders will “will show up to hug the hallucinatory uncle from America.”

The video also strings together some of Glenn’s past statements, most taken wildly out of context or without Beck’s further elaborations, embellished with sinister music to create a faux dramatic effect.

When one grants an interview one can only hope the reporter will make the most minimal effort to listen. That, unfortunately, did not pan out on for Glenn on Israel’s Channel 2 newscast Monday night.

After interviewing Glenn in the Old City, reporter Ilan Lukatch filed a report concluding “the ultra-right wing American broadcaster Glenn Beck is trying to guard his big mouth from making provocations.” Lukatch repeatedly emphasized Glenn’s relationship with Israeli settlers and the right wing of the political spectrum here, saying “peace is not a word launched a lot from his mouth.”

“Problem is that the imaginary world of our “best friend” is pretty problematic,” said Lukatch. “After the massacre in Norway last month, where an extreme right winger murdered 70 boys and girls at a summer camp, he chose to note that the camp reminded him of the Hitler Youth.” He did at least add Glenn’s explanation of the quote: “If you listen to the broadcast, it is a principle: let’s not send our kids to indoctrinate them on a political philosophy of a political party.”

So as not to commit the same sin of omission as some reporters, here is the overall picture of the coverage. When Glenn visited the Knesset last month, the Israeli MSM coverage was overall positive. On this visit, reports have been mixed: acknowledging his popularity and the success of his events but also expressing skepticism of the sincerity of his support for Israel. The more critical reviews appear to be written by those unable to see past their own political views and separate them from this non-political event.

If you look closely and compare the Peace Now and Channel 2 News videos, you’ll notice something interesting: the clips the reporter pulled are from precisely the same video posted on the Peace Now Facebook page. Notice it has the same faux drama music in the background. Think the reporter might have an agenda? Listen to his report, an act he didn’t even have the courtesy to grant Glenn.

But it’s probably just me being “hallucinatory.”

Beck has made no secret of the blaze being affiliated with him- I’d rather hear about a first time in history event in Israel than if your messiah felt the earthquake on the golfcourse. 2. One big difference between beck’s videos & this farse is that he always puts things in context- the only way you could take anything in this video seriously is if you completely ignore the context of what is being said- it would have been more honest for them to take a video & dubb in their own speech- & 3 . If you feel like spreading your liberal propaganda on this site- you would be wise to do REAL research before making yourselves look like fools again

      Isn’t that something? Remember the “Taliban Dan” video? I have never heard Beck do anything of the sort, and can‘t say that I’veI heard any other conservative commentator do that. I usually listen to conservative radio over the internet, so I check the stories as I hear them. Conservatives are self policing. If a conservative had done what Ed Schultz had just done with the “black cloud” comment, or Alan Greyson with the “Taliban Dan”, he’d be ruined. Not only would the lefties be all over it, but we the listeners would be all over it too. The Left doesn’t mind this kind of thing. They have absolutely zero concern with intellectual honesty and integrity. If they can fool most of the people most of the time they are more than happy with that…even if it means pitting brother against brother and putting the whole country in danger.

      People use it to bypass tracking software used to highlight specific words used. Some sites wil actually not post the word “God.”. As long as you are able to know to what they are referring too is the main goal. You may have also seen it in other posts where people will substitute an “A” with the number “4” or a “T” with the number “7”, since they look relatively the same.

    Glenn is only trying to help Israel. I see him as trying to positively impact our understanding and relationships, between our countries, and between human beings.
    Regardless of what those in opposition may say, Glenn stands for God, and for peace.
    This event is a true act of love and courage, I hope it changes many hearts and minds for the better.

      But he is trying to help Israel in the way that HE (GB) thinks it should be helped. For someone who has not lived in the area, belonged to the military there, grown up with a Jewish background (or Muslim, for that matter), or dedicated most of his life to studying the history (accurately with various accounts from various sides), this seems, to me, to be incredibly arrogant and smug. It also fails to take into account many of the very delicate situations that have existed in the area, and become more extreme in some situations, for millennia.

      @ Jblaze – where did I say I was the ultimate authority/judge/jury? I was merely proposing my opinion of GB’s event, and why I personally find the whole thing arrogant. I have listened to Beck, and am familiar with his works (tho maybe not as familiar as you are). I am not suggesting the left wing take him down or anything like that. I just personally think it isn‘t GB’s place to tell Israel (and her people) how they should behave or do in the future to be successful (which he kinda does…). I appreciate people choosing to stand with Israel and the Jewish people, and am not criticizing him for doing so, but standing with the Jewish people just because us poor little Jews need the help of the Christian right is a fairly arrogant self-opinion. I say so with absolutely no hate or anger in my heart. Just sharing my opinion.

    Race, religion, age, sex etc.. have nothing to do with idology. Either you are for individual freedoms and liberties or you want everything to be taken care of by someone else. And until that “someone” comes to take care of you, everyone else is at fault for the situation you are in.
