WASHINGTON (AP) — American actress Daryl Hannah has been arrested in front of the White House along with other environmental protesters who oppose a planned oil pipeline from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
The sit-in Tuesday involved dozens protesting the Keystone XL pipeline. It would go through six states to refineries in Texas.
Before she was arrested, Hannah told The Associated Press the protesters want to be free from dependence on fossil fuels. The group calls for clean energy investments instead. Hannah says they hope President Barack Obama will not bow to oil lobbyists.
Hannah sat down on the sidewalk near the White House and refused orders from U.S. Park Police to move.
She has been arrested in the past for environmental causes.

Posted on August 31, 2011 at 5:19amIts simple, really. We need oil and gas, and have plenty of it. We can and should attempt to develop other forms of fuel for future use. I don’t have a problem with that.
Report Post »But…….They must be market-driven. That is to say that they must be competitive, and evolve naturally, through first feasibility. Because they are feasible, the demand will follow.
It should not be like the Chevy Volt. It is not feasible, hense, no demand.

Posted on August 31, 2011 at 7:45amBack when we drilled for our own oil, things were pretty good. Just think of all the jobs that would be created, and how much our gas and goods would go down. Of course, after BO has hijacked us and made all of his filthy rich buddies billions richer and given away billions to his Muslim countries, I don’t know if there is any hope at all. But we certainly don’t need to be footing the bill for all of his communist czars (33 of them?) and I don’t think that all those house and senate employees need to keep reaping such outrageous benefits after serving short terms. And I think that they (President included) should have to be subjected to whatever rules they make for us. But back to the basics, we should be kicking every illegal out of this country and take care of our own. We should strip environmentals of their power and only allow them to work to the benefit of our health..that’s it, such as non- polluting of rivers and cessation of nuclear power plants. We need “safe” We need to go back to gas, coal, and then add all the other so called clean energy. Our “citizens” need to be able to afford to live.

Posted on August 31, 2011 at 9:03amI heard Hannity’s interview with Hannah. For the most part, she was civil and nice. Sadly, she is misinformed, though. The cost of modifying and making the alcohol for the cars greatly outweighs the benefits. Daryl kept talking how much safer and cleaner alcohol is compared to gasoline. Alcohol is just as dangerous and will melt paint and plastic just as much as gas. The by-product of alcohol is CO2, which they are saying is causing MMGW. Crude oil also happens to be a natural by-product of the earth, just as much as methyl alcohol.
Report Post »The problem is that Daryl has been convinced of the MMGW scare. I DO agree with her when she says we need to quit buying oil from the Middle East. Daryl did not have a very good argument against coal and oil, she just kept saying how “dirty” they are, and that they cause GW.
Oil and coal come from the earth. Until we find a cheap, easy, and viable means to fuel our vehicles, and make electricity, oil and coal will be around. Natural oil and coal, straight from mother earth. She had never been to any coal mine, either, but kept saying how they kill the environment. She sounded fairly intelligent and hopefully, she will come around, but not if she keeps hanging around this bunch.

However, using our food products for gas is wrong. Our gov’t believes we should starve our citizens to adopt their questionable alternatives. We’re in all kinds of trouble and they want to stop food growth, then use our food for gas. We need to rein in the EPA, at least until this Nation can get on sound footing again. Then they can do their dirty work when we’re stronger as a Nation. Kinda like they want to kick us in the teeth when we’re down and struggling with a failing Nation, trying to get it stabilized once again. (I think hurting America is intended by our current administration.)
Please, let’s vote for people who have and use common sense and not hurting our people with programs that should be eliminated during our time of crisis. Too many of our people are hurting.

“Ethanol (E100) consumption in an engine is approximately 51% higher than for gasoline since the energy per unit volume of ethanol is 34% lower than for gasoline”
“For maximum use of ethanol’s benefits, a much higher compression ratio should be used.” Meaning a special design will be required, not the vehicle that most currently have.
“Ethanol contains soluble and insoluble contaminants” Corrosion of engine components.
“Mechanics also have seen increased cases of damage to small engines, in particular, the carburetor, attributable to the increased water retention by ethanol in fuel.” Possibility/probability of engine damage?
There are some designs that get around some of the negatives and can equal that of gasoline. But…… “These engines have been used in the United Kingdom by Reading Transport but the use of bioethanol fuel is now being phased out.”

Posted on August 31, 2011 at 8:00amI agree but heres some food for thought. In the ’50s some farm tractors had a “water injection feature” that increased horse power by injecting water directly into the combustion chamber a split second after it fired, the water then flashed into steam adding to the combustion pressures and giving a 50 Hp increase. Not bad considering it only had 75 Hp to begin with. But the design and metalurgy of todays engines would be damaged. It was the old timey boost button.

I mean, how many Hollywood-types would drive a 1970′s Pontiac that they had rebuilt to run on alcohol made from garbage?!
Here’s the deal: She’s straight-forward, sincere and KIND about stating her position. She encourages positive action (I mean, who wouldn’t like to see less pollution?). I’m just wondering how safe seawater is ? Revelations tells us that there will be no sea left in the end times…no sea creatures. I think we are seeing it with this destructive “clean energy” nuclear power. As I have been noticing, people are not worried about it at all…and they won’t..not until it’s too late. Smog is going to look pretty menial compared to that fallout. At least when we were drilling for our own oil, there were plenty of jobs to go around, and our goods and services were much less expensive, as was energy. In Zechariah 14:12 , it reads that all who have fought against Jerusalem, that their flesh shall consume away while they stand on their feet, that their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and that their tongue shall consume away in their mouth..Sounds nuclear to me. I get not wanting to transport that oil via that pipeline, it will probably just serve to further destroy the sea… but as for dependence on oil energy, I think we need all of our resources . Now we have so many more to take care of with all of the illegals and Obamas imports of Muslim Somolians and Haamas affiliated Pakistanis. Our country has improved so under his watch.

Which we will for sure, we are so close on many fronts, synthetic oil can be produced today in small batches for $50 a barrel, and once full production plants are built the cost will drop below $20. Posted on August 31, 2011 at 2:08amWell since she thinks she has all the answers, maybe she can tell us how we will feed ourselves if all the farmers are producing fuel for cars.

Posted on August 31, 2011 at 1:59amI wonder how she got to DC? Maybe on a plane burning oil? What about the petroleum used in the soles of those boots? What about the fossil fuels used to grow, harvest, and manufacture her cotton clothes? What about all of the fuel the police wasted getting there, arresting her dumb ass and then transporting her? These people are smoking acid hash crack pipes dipped in poppy heroin mushrooms.

Posted on August 31, 2011 at 1:58amEven though I enjoyed the entertainment movie stars gave us, I always knew they were not in the real world. I hope after this last decade that people see movie stars for what they are and will only be;which is entertainment-period.

Posted on August 31, 2011 at 1:39amThe most intriguing part of this story to me is trying to figure out where the heck Obama really is on issues. Is his whole career a game of trying to be just enough of everything to everybody? How sad, I don’t think he has any idea who he is.

Posted on August 31, 2011 at 1:37amOkay, so where is this clean fuel going to come from and how is it going to replace the oil base that,s in nearly every product we use? Answer that one and then answer this as continue to import oil from countries that don’t care about the enviorment and ship it across the ocean how much damage is actually being done to the ocean?

Posted on August 31, 2011 at 2:03amWe’ve been using natural gas to power vehicles for over 50 years. We have an unlimited supply and we would not be involved anywhere in the Middle East if the
Report Post »auto industry had converted vehicles in the 70′s. We can still do it but there are
so many players so heavily invested in keeping us dependent upon oil that it’s
not going to be allowed to happen. In a very short time we could be totally
independent and it‘s shameful that we haven’t done it.

Posted on August 31, 2011 at 2:50amThe problem is this even if all cars were run on natural gas we would still be dependent on oil. It’s used in nearly everything from the fabrics we wear to the roof on our homes, the plastics we use and even in a lot of the medications we use. Oil or petroleum is used in over 90% of the products we use in our daily lives. Everything in your home somewhere down the line has been effected by oil.
