Happy Landing: Cat Stuck on Top of Cactus Climbs Down After 3 Days

AP

SAGUARO LAKE, Ariz. (AP) — A lot of cats get stuck in trees, but an Arizona kitty was perched atop a giant saguaro cactus for at least three days before finally coming down on its own.

Residents living in a desert area northeast of Phoenix noticed the black cat with white patches at the very top of the 30- to 40-foot cactus.

At times, the feline would stand up and survey the area, possibly trying to figure out how to get down — or how it got up there.

Helicopter video from ABC15.com shows the cat eventually climbing down the cactus Friday. It started making its way down head-first before turning around and scooting backward. It finally took a big leap and landed on its feet before wandering into the desert.

My guess the cat was being pursued by a hungry coyote or other predator, the saguaro cactus served as a point of safety.

Cats meandering around in the desert is not healthy.

People wonder what is wrong with this country and I believe you sum it up nicely. All I can really say is that you are an idiot…Really, no comparisons or anything your just an idiot. The next time I see someone who is a total @sshat I will be able to put it into a context that at least they aren’t as bad as you. For one, why would you have a dog that would do that? I mean, chances are if it does that to a cat it will turn on you eventually. Two, have you ever stopped to consider that maybe those cats are another person’s pet? I’ll tell you right now, if your dog ever attacked my cat I would personally rip it’s mouth off, come find you and then shove that head straight up your 5 day old underwear.

ALAREN – You may not like what NOT A CRAZY has to say about dogs eating cats… but that is what it is like between different echelons in the food chain. Do I advocate animal cruelty? Nope…. but then again I don’t consider going to the pet store to purchase a live mouse to feed a pet boa constrictor animal cruelty either. House cats take down backyard birds all of the time… do you have a problem with that? Maybe you need to take one of the commericially-run survival school courses – where you spend 4 days in the woods and are required to support your personal need for protein some way – to gain a better understanding of how God and nature’s cycle works.

Your dog wouldn’t fare to well.Cats generally end up tearing a dogs face apart.
I’ll agree with you the morals and compassion of the human race is in the toilet.Try and look on the comments as a joke.Mine actually was a joke.I’d not eat my cats for anything short of absolute starvation.

I very likely may BE Crazy…crazy enough to know if you or your animal should touch the hair on any ONE of my loved ones, including my pets, you are going down. If you would allow your animals to eat my cats, I would take that as a personal threat upon my own life as your uncontrolled animal could turn on me or my children. There are reasons for gun laws and this is one good reason to practice so unlike you, whomever would need to be shot would be done so quickly and mercifully.

Detroit, you seem to have forgotten that a society is also judged by the way it treats its animals too. My son lives in Phoenix and because of the down turn in housing he told me that when people lose there homes or they just walk away from them because they can’t make the payment they just dump their cats and dogs were they were living. He even told me one story were the bank fond a cat locked up in a house that the owner had left 8 weeks before and they don’t know how it had lived so long without food. Most people think that if they just release a cat outside that it can make it on it’s own but in fact most starve to death in a few weeks because they never learned the skills of hunting from their mothers and let me tell you seeing an animal starve to death is not a pretty sight. One last thing i do agree with you 100% that our country and world has problems but that should not keep you from having compassion in your heart for one of Gods creatures.

Sheesh, when was the last time you shinnied up a saguaro? Or, tried to set a ladder against it? Or got your fire truck stuck in the sand trying to reach it? Or scared a cat off a forty foot ledge trying to rescue it! The damn thing got up there, it sure as heck could find a way down! Now, I‘m surprised a hawk or eagle didn’t find a tasty dinner perched for the taking! Maybe that’s how the cat got up there–after hauling its prey 40 feet up int the air, the bird stroked-out and let go–just as the cactus came by!
