A Pasco, Washington family survived an avalanche that blew out the windshield and pushed their SUV across a mountain pass road and into a retaining wall, then left them looking for a man who left behind his coat when he stopped to help.
Randall and Roxanna Parker and their two young daughters were driving home Wednesday on Interstate 90 from Seattle over Snoqualmie Pass when a snow slide slammed into their Nissan Pathfinder.
It smashed the windshield, covered them in ice and glass, and pushed the vehicle about 50 yards into a retaining wall.
The Tri-City Herald reports:
Tears welled up in the eyes of a Pasco father Thursday as he recalled how a family spring break trip turned to a nightmare in an instant.
Just 24 hours earlier, the Parkers were on their way home from Seattle when they got caught in an avalanche on Interstate 90′s Snoqualmie Pass. Snow slammed into their SUV, covering them with ice and glass.
“We’re not religious people, but God must have just said, ‘It’s not your time to go,’ “ Randall ”Kent” Parker said after his family was safely back home. “I don’t know how we survived it.”
Kent suffered cuts on his face and head, and across the top of his hands as they clenched the steering wheel when the windshield and sunroof shattered.
His daughters, Nicole, 7, and Arianna, 3, were strapped into their car seats and didn’t have a wound on them.
His wife, Roxanna, who goes by Tana, got the worst of it, suffering deep bruises and cuts to her upper chest from the impact of the heavy snow.
“We still have little bits of glass in our mouth and hair. I got all the pain on my chest from the snow (not the airbag). Thank goodness I didn’t have any broken ribs,” Tana said. “The pain — it hurts so bad. But that’s nothing for this terrible accident. We were so blessed.”

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 11:17pmHow long before some hate-filled left-winger expresses disdain over their survival, and that they should have paid the ultimate price for driving an SUV? Man o man though, think how much WORSE that avalanche coulda been without Global Warming(TM)!

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 9:33pmYes, God decided to save them, probably for the sake of the children. It might be time for them to start considering their eternal condition.

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 8:48pmA couple of years ago, a family in Utah got slammed by an avalanche and taken for a ride into a canyon below and all survived……in a NISSAN ARMADA! Hmmm. I smell a sales pitch for Nissan if you live in Mountainous snow country. I like the fact that the Good Lord is the Conductor / Ticket Puncher on this crazy train.

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 8:42pmSounds like they are believers in God now. Funny how it always takes a persons near death to come to God.

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 8:03pmDid the Avalanche do it all by itself, or did the person driving the vehicle cause this horrible accident?
So sick and tired of the PC dummies putting the blame on the vehicle as if it has a mind of it’s own.

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 7:41pmWe will definitely check it out! I pray for your safety, and the safety of our soldiers, borderpatrol and policemen/women daily and am thankful for your service. My son graduated with two fine young men in Jax FL who are firefighters. God bless. I am glad the family survived this ordeal and I hope God will become part of their life, not just when there’s trouble.

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 7:26pmWell when I drove past the scene going to Seattle from Yakima I call BS on the 50 yards, the distance is shorter than the area of the potential Avalanche. It was more like 50 feet because only two lanes of the I-90 freeway are open to the chance of an Avalanche and if it were to come across that Covering as it did the lane closest to the Cover would be missed so most of the snow would fall on the slower traffic lane closest to the lake. Depending where the snow came down and how fast the vehicle came to a stop they did not even clear the “Shadow of the Cover” so the 50 yards is exageration…. I should have taken pictures but I was on my way to take care of my invalid mom for the next day…

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 8:27pmuntameable-Kate – I like your attitude about Hollywood. I’ve posted numerous comments today on SodaHead, saying Hollywood should pay for Planned Parenthood since they are more than somewhat responsible for the moral decay of the fabric of our nation.

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 7:44pmYou people seriously need to tone down the praises for God… Its not like an atheist hasn’t been through something similar and continued living. And its not like Christians haven’t died in an avalanche or car accident. God this and God that gets seriously tiresome. If anything history has shown God is far to busy or hands off in our daily lives to simply INJECT *him*self into EVERY bit of freakish luck someone experiences. If anything God is found in the “humanity” of “individuals”, (IE a person leaving them his coat) not in the freak accidents. Because if he’s responsible for saving them, then he must also be responsible for causing the accident or allowing it to happen – thus making *him* responsible for many senseless deaths. Which leads to many people flat out rejecting religion.
