Harry Reid Arrives at Clean Energy Summit in a Fleet of Giant SUVs

Lean, mean, green machine Harry Reid recently co-hosted National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas with leftist Center for American Progress.  As the Heartland Institute notes, the day was full of surprises:

Harry Reid Arrives at Clean Energy Summit in a Fleet of Giant SUVs

As the Summit kicked off at 9:00 in the morning, approximately 50 environmental activists gathered in protest outside the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Thomas & Mack Center. Wearing t-shirts and carrying posters castigating coal and praising solar power, somebody forgot to tell the protesters that the Summit speakers actually agreed with them. …

Shortly before the rain hit, Harry Reid rushed out to assure the protesters that they and he were on the same team. Unable or unwilling to traverse the 100 yards of relatively empty parking lot between the Thomas & Mack Center and the protest on the sidewalk along Swenson Street, a caravan of gas-guzzling SUVs pulled up to the Mack Center to whisk Reid and a few aides to the protest.

With the rabble finally mollified and dispersed, Reid hopped back into one of the SUVs in the caravan and made the lengthy 100-yard commute back to the Thomas & Mack Center.

“I was absolutely astonished, not to mention appalled, that Harry Reid would retain a fleet of gas-guzzling SUVs so that he and a few aides would not have to walk the mere 100 yards to address environmental activists,” says Heartland Institute Senior Fellow James M. Taylor. “If greenhouse gas emissions are such a problem, you would think Reid might have actually made the short stroll through the parking lot, or at least retain Priuses rather than large SUVs for the summit.”

Once back inside the conference, Reid went on to praise the hydropower provided by the Hoover Dam, and friends like John Podesta from the Center for American Progress, T. Boone Pickens and PG&E each took a turn at the podium and “preached to the environmental choir.”

Just days before the summit, Reid held a conference call with other clean energy allies and promised to push Democrats’ energy bill during the lame-duck session following the midterm elections.

Reid went over the history of the energy bill, which initially was a comprehensive plan from John Kerry and others, including a cap and trade system for carbon emissions. “We originally tried to do a bill that John Kerry worked on for 8 or 9 months,” Reid said, but at the end of the process, Kerry and his colleagues found themselves unable to attract Republican support. “We had to step back with something more modest… a more compact bill.” The bill that Reid unveiled before the August recess includes the Home Star energy retrofits for residential properties, inducements for natural gas and electric vehicles, particularly in the trucking fleets, to reduce dependence on oil, and increased money for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which can go toward any number of land use projects.

And while he’s not out commuting around in his “fleet” of SUVs, the Democratic Majority Leader denounces them as a wasteful mode of transportation.

Sometimes you have to wonder if people like Reid, Pelosi and Gore don’t huddle before one of these moronic events and say, “Let’s see how dim-witted our followers are… hmmm… Oh! I know! Let’s fly there on private jets, load into SUVs with no more than two people per SUV and then we’ll get the crowd frenzied over how carbon emissions are destroying the world… it’ll be hilarious… oh wait, and then… and then… Nancy, you turn and fart in their faces and tell them it’s okay for you to fart in their faces because you buy carbon offsets and your flatulence is carbon neutral… oh, that’ll be rich” Surely, surely people just aren’t this stupid.

Best laugh of the page!!! I like that Reid had to tell the protesters he and the others agreed with them. Stupid Libs. You’ll notice the conservatives were too busy at work to bother protesting a bunch of fools all agreeing with each other. The irony and hypocrisy are so rich. Liberals would be funny if they weren’t so harmful to everyone else.

What the bedwetters are about to find out is that we Conservatives ONLY care about the “environment” around our mansions, limos, yachts and jets. Wait until we wield ALL the power after the 2012 elections. Conservatives will all live in a force-field of clean air, land and water, and we’ll leave all the lowlife lefties to wallow in our filth and waste. My idea of heaven!

This is just another example of how hypocritical and arrogant Harry Reid is. In what way is he any different then Al Gore who flies in a private jet from one speaking engagement to another in order to tell people to stop driving gas guzzlers. They feel that they are above it all and should have special ‘exemptions“ because they are the ”enlightened and brilliant” ones while we are just the masses who are just too stupid to understand what needs to be done and to appreciate how they are trying to take care of us. I for one am an adult and am capable of making my own decisions and am willing to live with the consequences of my actions and choices.

I am disappointed that all the green information fails to disclose the costs honestly. I think if people knew that politicians were requiring the regulated utilities to buy “green” generated power at dramatically higher costs and pass those higher costs on to their customers (YOU AND ME) they would object loudly. The politicians don’t want to truthfully disclose the higher costs they are imposing in furtherance of their philosophy because they fear the rage the truth would produce.

Help rid the world of toxic hydrocarbons (crude oil)!

Converting those toxic hydrocarbons (crude oil) to water and carbon dioxide (CO2) will create energy, wealth and happy plants (plants need CO2 to grow). Happy plants make happy people. (except Al Gore) http://commonsense21c.com/

Hydrocarbons (crude Oil) are toxic to almost all life on earth. Crude oil is formed when plant and animal matter decays and the (life friendly compounds) are removed or destroyed by that decomposition. When crude oil is oxidized (burned) the primary products of combustion are water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) and energy. Plant life, through a process called photosynthesis convert sunlight, water, carbon dioxide and nitrogen back into “CHON” compounds. Life on earth is composed of “CHON” (carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen) compounds.

Of course, this is a much simplified explanation of the process.

D-Bag – Please – I am begging you – Please learn your history. George H.W. Bush passed one of the largest “Clean Air” Acts in the Nation’s history. You statement above is simply inaccurate.

      Read and learn:
The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 built on the first bill passed in 1963 and subsequent bills in 1970 and 1977. The 1990 amendments focused on three aspects of clean air: reducing urban smog, curbing acid rain, and eliminating industrial emissions of toxic chemicals. Although critics were concerned about the cost of the act and its effect on an already weakened economy, President Bush was deeply committed to environmental issues and claimed that by working with the business community to find innovative ways to improve the environment, the economy and the American people could both benefit. Congress passed the bill with significant support, and on November 15, 1990, President Bush signed the act.

“Entitled to security”, I take it you are too stupid to read the headline, or actually pay attention to what he was going to, but we all know by your ignorant comments that you are obviously a progressive plant trolling……

      @danglingbags

Your progressive “college” education is showing, and it doesn’t look pretty. Seriously where did you go to college? Cause either the teachers completely neglected your English courses.

Or maybe you just graduated in the “Government Payoff” degree. Where Progressives like yourself get paid to stay home all day and write on blogs that complain about those who actually have jobs that don’t like giving their money to you.

This guy is a waste of space. He ought to drive off a cliff with Nancy Pelosi in the passenger seat. Wow..and you think this knucklehead will get reelected? Go back to your planet.

I don‘t think there’s a person on earth who cares enough about Harry to create any need for security. The closest he‘s probably ever come to being in harm’s way was when he put his arm around Pelosi, who did not welcome it. Or maybe she did and he got his bags dangled later when the cameras were gone. I put nothing past these people.

It’s a long fall from that ivory tower for reid and gore on this fake global warming crap. Best news story of the year was Al Gore showing up to the Global Warming summit in Copenhagen to record snowfall.

Cut Harry some slack, dont you know its do as I say not do as i do! His self importance is bigger than a little thing like the enviroment. He cant be troubled with a little thing of principle. Like saddling us with a sub standard medical plan while he and his buddies get to keep their great plan. History is repeating itself over and over. The roman senators lived high on the hog while the faceless peasants struggled to live.

Dangles…finnally found you. Your bruises are a bit better this morning. I am sure glad that we split you and Stupidwindmill up. You know prince Harry realized that pluggin a stupid electric car into a coal fired power plant just does not add up to a big effect. Only someone who sits in moms basement stretching their danglinbags would believe it?
