Has Van Jones Tipped His Hand on His Next Big Step to Mobilize the Left?

If you were asked to name a progressive labor movement, you might automatically chime in and say, “AFL-CIO.” If you were asked to name a progressive environmental movement, you might answer, “Sierra Club.” If you were asked to name a left-wing women’s rights movement, you could easily think of the feminist group the National Organization for Women (NOW). Now if you were asked to name a progressive economics movement, who or what would come to mind? If you are drawing a blank, that is because, at least as far as former Green Jobs “Czar” Van Jones is concerned, there isn’t one. That is what he apparently hopes to change.

“And so I felt that the reason the Tea Party worked and the reason the Tea Party was so good against us was progressives are very good at building organizations around everything but the economy,” he said during a recent appearance at the University of Chicago.

Indeed, Van Jones is a mobilizer. While the basis for his arguments against the right is often surface-level, he has proven to be an effective speaker among his own contingent and in his push to get like-minded people on board with his “dreams” for a new, Green Economy.

Signs

One could say that from as far back as 2007, it was apparent Jones was poised to lead an initiative whose goal would be to restructure the economy of the most powerful nation on earth. From establishing “Green For All,“ an organization dedicated to building ”green pathways out of poverty,” to serving as the Obama administration’s Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Jones has, for some time, been at the epicenter of a push to establish a new economic movement in America. In fact, his 2008 book, The Green Collar Economy, was essentially a manifesto on the amalgamation of social justice, environmentalism and green jobs.

By his own admission, after years as a civil rights activist and attorney in Oakland, California, Jones began to feel as though his efforts to help the disenfranchised were for naught, as he never saw the underprivileged get a leg up — regardless of how many welfare programs he fought for. In his book, Rebuild The Dream, Jones recalled a conversation with his father, who believed that it was only through gainful employment that the disadvantaged could gain self-reliance, and thus, self-respect.

According to his account, this realization, combined with a series of letdowns in traditional activism prompted Jones to look to the opportunities he believed existed in the newly emerging green movement, and aided Jones in stowing away some of the animus he once harbored for Capitalism, which he came to view as not wholly “evil.”  In his mind, Capitalism could now be used for good via leveraging business and job opportunities within the “green economy.” This epiphany is what catalyzed Jones to pioneer green jobs initiatives as a pathway out of poverty for inner city communities, and would later lift him to the heights of an Obama administration “Green Czar.”

While his tenure at the White House in 2009 may have only lasted a mere six months, the longtime activist continued to forge ahead, recently founding “Rebuild The Dream,“ a movement dedicated to ”making the economy work for 100% of Americans, not just the top 1%.” He also authored a book by the same name.

Since its official launch in June 2011, the movement has garnered more than 70 partners and allies “to build an active grassroots network in all 435 Congressional Districts” and claims to have more than 600,000 active members. Its official website states that Rebuild The Dream “is a platform for bottom-up, people-powered innovations to help fix the U.S. economy“ by using ”21st-century digital technology“ and advancing ”highly inventive solutions.” But while Jones’ resume may seem formidable, one wonders how an attorney and civil rights activist possesses the economics qualifications needed to successfully lead an economic movement.

Jones defines a “green-collar job“ as a ”family-supporting, career-track job that directly contributes to preserving or enhancing environmental quality,” while at the same time improving the environment. Some of the roles low-income individuals could excel in, according to Jones, are in the retrofitting, weatherizing and “solarizing” of America. This is perhaps why, despite the monumental failures of solar companies that received government backing like Solyndra, Jones still believes additional investments in green companies need to be made.

In a recent lecture hosted by the University of Chicago, titled, “At Your Own Risk: What Is To Be Done?” Cathy Cohen, professor of Political Science joined Jones and performance artist Marc Bamuthi to discuss the environment, race, “social ecology” and “collective responsibility.”

“This is a big problem,” Jones said at one point during the panel discussion in reference to the fact that there is no progressive economic movement one can point to.

“You go the the laundromat, you go to a sports bar, you go to a house of worship, ask people what the number one concern is. The economy, jobs, economic issues. And we don’t have anything to ask them to join.”

“And so I say since no one seems to have built anything in this space, can we create a movement around economic justice that would be scalable to the traditionally poor and the newly impoverished on the same team?”

The “language” and “rhetoric” of such a movement, according to Jones, would “shock the hard-core liberals and the people in the college towns and the coasts,“ but would be the ”unifying common ground on the economy.” It is at this point Jones admits that he has in fact launched such a campaign and called it: “Rebuild the Dream.”

“We now have 600,000 people,” he added.

“We’re in every congressional district. Growing like wildfire. The book came out. I think we can put up a positive Tea Party. I think we put up at Tea Party movement that’s just as passionate but not spreading fear — spreading hope, spreading love, spreading solidarity. But it has to be taken seriously as a new project. Get the traditionally poor and the newly impoverished on the same page.”

The Shareable Economy

Jones’ push to build an economic movement seems to stem from a broader progressive initiative dubbed “the shareable economy,“ or the ”access economy.” In its most rudimentary form, this simply means an economy based on bartering, loaning, and re-selling used, refurbished or otherwise “sustainable” products.

In an article for the far-left publication Alternet, Gar Alperovitz talked about this “New Economy Movement,“ writing that ”activists, theorists, organizations and ordinary citizens are rebuilding the American political-economic system from the ground up.”

“Thousands of real world projects — from solar-powered businesses to worker-owned cooperatives and state-owned banks are already underway,” he wrote before explaining the movement comprises Occupiers, student activists, and “people in their 60s from the ’60s.” Alperovitz continued:

The “New Economy Movement” is a far-ranging coming together of organizations, projects, activists, theorists and ordinary citizens committed to rebuilding the American political-economic system from the ground up.

The broad goal is democratized ownership of the economy for the “99 percent” in an ecologically sustainable and participatory community-building fashion. The name of the game is practical work in the here and now—and a hands-on process that is also informed by big picture theory and in-depth knowledge.

Now weigh the above passage with the stated mission of Jones’ Rebuild The Dream movement. In fact, in his most recent book, Jones calls for the formation and promotion of an alternative, “sharable economy” based on a book entitled, “What’s Mine Is Yours: The Rise of Collaborative Consumption.” To this end, Jones claimed that if his “steps for success” are enacted, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would indeed be “proud.”

Mobilizing

At the end of the day, Jones believes that no one can mobilize better than progressives when it comes to marching, registering to vote, organizing, rallying, protesting, petitioning, and so on. This is perhaps one reason why conservatives, Libertarians, Independents and disenfranchised Democrats alike must be proactive in their voting efforts this election cycle — especially if they are to impede the arrival of a new, “shareable economy.”

Conversely, Jones believes that progressives “spent two years unilaterally disarming on the things that we know how to do better than anybody in the world” — and that’s march.

“I mean, if it come down to marchin’, how we get beat on marchin’?  Derivatives reform? Okay, that’s hard. Marchin’? Basic stuff.” 

He continues,  “track me – we could win politically in November but lose economically in December.  The Bush tax cuts will either be gone or renewed.  A ‘grand bargain’ could decimate Medicare, decimate Medicaid, destroy the safety net, let the rich off the hook when it comes to tax policy [or not]. You could win in November, and you could lose in December.”

Jones is afraid that everything the early generations from the segregation days fought for is in danger of “getting decimated” by the less-diligent generation of today. He uses this critique to spur further support from his adherents.

Matter of finance

In terms of funding his new movement, Jones, in the same University of Chicago panel discussion, announced that he would rather Rebuild The Dream members fund their own initiative than have the “wealthy donors from the 1%” do so.

Thus far, Jones believes that conservative “kingpins” like the Koch brothers are responsible for holding up energy (and what he later cryptically calls “democracy”) reform.  Never at any time does Jones acknowledge that the reason for the “hold up” is more likely due to the fact that green energy products are technologically unsustainable at this point. He argues that “there will be millions of green jobs on planet earth, they’ll just be in Asia,”  yet fails to mention that these are artificial jobs in an artificial industry propped up by a Chinese government with almost unlimited resources, attempting to skew global petroleum markets in its favor.

Still, Jones is relentless.  He argues that what is broken is “the social contract that says that the wealthy in America pay America back.” All the while he fails to mention that the wealthy are already paying a disproportionate share of the taxes, and are disproportionately donating to charitable causes, and that if the government were to confiscate their wealth, it wouldn’t even constitute a drop in the bucket relative to our national debt.

When accused of waging class warfare, Jones simply replies that he’s waging “warfare against people who have no class.” For a large contingent, that is “cause” enough in itself to rally behind.

      We can afford to go green when green energy is competitive. Get the govt out of our lives before YOU all starve to death. History repeats, but liberals control education and do not teach history. This road of govt control has been tried over and over and failed – ending up with millions killed, murdered, starved, or living in abject poverty. If America keeps voting for these big govt lovers, YOU WILL STARVE.

      However, I will be fine, or I will die with a gun in my hand. I prefer to refer to the upcoming chaos, brought about by libs, as thinning the herd. Cities are mostly filled with libs, and they will be war zones, so go kill each other over that slice of bread while I dine on fresh venison, rabbit, and fruits and veggies from my garden. Tresspass at your own risk. The foxes are plentiful and would enjoy a nice meal of dead human.

      BE PREPARED. And DONT FEED THE LIBS, THEY MULTIPLY LIKE RABBITS!

      Here’s a thought for you: DO you know what ‘entity’ collects the MOST money in the USA, every month, every year? The Utilities. In Canada I’ve read that you can not become PM of Canada unless you come up through the ranks of their Utility co. Everyone pays their Utility bill…maybe not phone or car or mtg. but everyone pays their utilities. ENRON? remember? Now Gore et al have come up with a way to tax us for the very air they breathe. I can remember my grand parents joking about it “Next they’ll figure out a way to tax the very air we breathe!”…we’ll they have. THIS EPA junk is nothing more than a 1) MONEY GRAB 2) POWER GRAB If you are in any business and are not allowed to continue due to some EPA regulation; they own you. GO down the line… everything, where you live, what you drive, what you get to see on TV, even your water availability …under control of Utilities. Just like Obama taking the COLLEGE LOAN capacity out of the hands of PRIVATE LENDERS and into the bloody GOV. (which we own lock, stock and barrel) so he can control WHO gets these college loans, where THEY get to go to school and even…WHAT they get to study. ALL OF THIS is a not-so-subtle grab for total control of us. HE is another Black who has been brainwashed with hatred against White Americans. HE sees COMMUNISM as the only end game with himself in charge. After this election and ROMNEY WINS, none of us can go back to business as usual!!!

Satanic forces are at work here and I believe we are living in a repeat period likened to the 30s in Germany. The people will choose who will bring them all down. Just like they did in Germany.       GO GREEN? Mr. Jones needs to go th China. In China they are building coal fired generating facilities with a completion rate of four (4) units per month. Soon, China will be the leading producer of coal emissions in the world. The Chinese need Mr. Jones’ “Expertise”. The Chicoms need to hear Mr. Jones’ speeches and rhetoric about the fantasy called “Global Warming”. He should take Al Gore with him. I’m sure they would be warmly welcomed by the government there.

      This country already has groups working toward “economic justice”. It’s called socialists and marxists. (no capitalization needed, they aren’t worthy) His green jobs nonsense is just another way to line his pockets while convincing the most vulnerable, the most desperate and the willfully ignorant that this is the way to go. Note that he didn’t completely abandon his former terminology–that is ingrained in him as much as his DNA probably is: “bottom up, top down”, “social justice, economic justice..”. Any kind of [insert random noun here] justice that is not criminal justice is is just crime against others–or more appropriately put, the science of forcing others to pay for your way of life by abusing the government entitlement system, intimidating courts, and silencing your opponents.

      I think we both know the answer. Glenn has changed. He ignores the Bildeberg conference and focuses on Van Jones. It doesnt make sense. Of course knowing our country is headed to bankruptcy and supporting a candidate that has a budget that doesnt cut current spending levels, supporting a candidate that wants to continue the wars even though they are the main reason for our soon to be bankruptcy, and supporting a candidate that is for stripping freedom from American citizens just like Obama has shown Glenn to be a fake.

      He has a agenda and I dont think its Pro American anymore. I believe Beck has gone off the deep end for Israel to try and earn points with the “Mormon god” so he can become exalted and become a god himself.

Jones may have been castrated by Beck but that doesnt‘ mean Jones can’t stir trouble.
      Jones knows his economic fantasies are nothing but fanciful nonsense, but he’s not really trying to implement them as credible economic policy…all he wants is to soak the successful anyway he can. I mean look at the euphemisms..”traditionally poor, newly impoverished on the same page”,“could let the rich off the hook”, his lapses into ‘hipspeak“ like ”Track me”..”marchin’” etc. This is all tailored to incite not inform. Jones is in the business of revolutions not economics. His business is stirring unrest not prosperity. Where would Van Jones be without someone to make unhappy about themselves and point to someone else to blame and sick them onto? THIS is why Beck won’t let Van Jones off the hook.       @soybomb315 Jones may be a small fish, but small things grow quite large. One day he’s a nobody, then all of the sudden he has some radical movement with hundreds of loyal followers. Then people are like; Hey! Where did this guy come from? Beck has the ability to focus on the small fish because The Blaze has reporters and writers who get paid to do it.

      In my mind Van Jones is not a small fish. His views are radical and he has identified himself as a Marxist. Anyone who agrees with the rhetoric of Marx should be followed closely. The words of Marx have caused much despair and loss of human life, it is not something to mess around with.

      We can’t let any of these Marxists progressives go unnoticed. The moment that happens they’ll have the upper hand.

At some point you have to assume Van Jones just likes getting paychecks from these nonprofits. The reason leftists have a thousand and one orgs is so they can appear to have widespread consensus on issues. At the top we’re talking a bout a small crowd. They can;t change anything. But if 203 nonprofits sign on to the agenda it appears they have real power and numbers. Van Jones adding number 204 to the cacophony will do nothing. We will still win. That’s what is soooooo funny about that ditzy woman running against Scott Brown in MA… The “Cherokee” Elizabeth Warren…she keeps saying that Rich Americans need to share their wealth with ALL Americans because “after all, they got rich because they used the schools and drove on the highways we all paid for” STUPID WOMAN: Think about what you are saying!!! IF that‘s the case then WHY AREN’T ALL PEOPLE RICH….geez, these libs cannot connect the dots/cannot ask the second question. Besides, Americans are the most generous people on earth.       I think one of the most fascinating parts of life in America today is the almost AUTOMATIC rising up of PATRIOTS. “THEY” just can’t get it. “THEY” swear that someone like Soros put the TEA PARTY together…that people would not just COME TOGETHER…. right. YES WE DID. TEA PARTY is the heart of America. It’s our desire and demand for FREEDOM and TRUTH !! Except for the few talking heads we see on TV from time to time, none of us can name another TEA PARTY member, but we know when we see a Notice or get an Email…WE’LL BE THERE with our sign or with our TIME to help what ever. THESE DOPES ON THE COMMIE LEFT think they can emulate the TEA PARTY…they really don’t get it, do they! :) The BEST of all the Great Things Glenn Beck has done for us is to let us know WE ARE OUT HERE…there are 75% of us vs. the 21 % one-worlder BS creeps who don’t respect the USA… That was the start of the TEA PARTY… it will never go away as long as AMERICA exists…it’s been there from the beginning of America…we just didn’t know it.

She dropped the buzz in Obammy’s ear about how radical Van was and the dope in the oval gave him a job so he could be close to the skank and keep her serviced so she would keep her hand off him. This kept Mooochell from throwing a coniption fit. Glenn exposed Van and that got him booted back to Oakland because he is a commie and it was out of the bag. The TEA party is safe because we are smarter then these idiots and that is why they are in a panic. The disgrace in the Oval tries any strong arm in the country and America will rise up and crush them like we have always done since our inception. There will be blood and people will die but once again the world will see you don’t mess with the USA.

    Remember Van Jones is a “Fellow” at the George Soros and Hillary Clinton Center for American Progress. John Podesta is President and CEO. Podesta tried to get Obama to use the “Podesta Principle” (ruling by Executive Order with the stroke of a pen). Obama can’t fire up the base so the CAP has decided to use the other bloviator/mouthpiece…..Van Jones.

      I agree we must allow nut jobs – but not nut jobs who seek to destroy us. I believe it was Abraham Lincoln who said (I may not have remembered this exactly): “The Constitution is not a suicide pact”.

      I agree with that totally. We are a free country that should allow diverse opinions EXCEPT when that opinion and/or person seeks to destroy me and my country. At THAT POINT I do not feel constrained to sit there and applaud his freedom of speech. When somebody wants to destroy capitalism, economic freedom, and Western Civilization then I take offense and regard them as what they are – OUR ENEMY, not our countryman.

      If Van Jones, Barack Obama et. al. were in another country saying the same things they say now and following it up by saying that they wanted to attack the USA to implement their ideas, we would do everything to defend ourselves…why can’t we defend ourselves now?

    The MAIN ISSUE here is that we are at a tipping point.

    We have SOME people – people who don’t know better or who do not remember the past (or who are ignorant of it) – that you cannot be FREE and DEPENDANT on the government at the same time.
    49% of our population believes that they can give their FREEDOM over to the government for a little security. (And in this unsecure world – that sometimes looks like a good idea) We have a Government that is MORE than willing (progressives) to take YOUR freedom in exchange for a little security. AS LONG AS you wear the chains of giving up some of your power.

    So we have people like Obama – and Van Jones – who say…. “Give me your power and I will take care of you” – (As long as I can have YOUR power to do whatever else I want….like take away the freedom from others in the form of TAXES and FEES and FINES and LICENSES and TAXES and TAXES and TAXES)

    That way – THEY stay in power – THEY push their progressive plans on the country as a whole – THEY collect everyone’s freedom and “Give” us – what is already ours!

    The government that has the power to GIVE us things has the power to TAKE things. And that is not how it was set up to be. It’s WE THE PEOPLE – not WE THE PEOPLE and the GOVERNMENT.

    If we allow people like Van Jones – who claims to be a COMMUNIST — OFFER US some security – we all need to ask ourselves.. “At what price?” – Our FREEDOM? No thanks Van. Take it back to Russia.

    Now just yesterday, that iconic Democrat, and rascal, Billy (Bubba) Clinton, of the infamous blue dress and accused rapist and convicted liar, told an audience of Gov Walker haters that he hasn’t laid eyes on a communist for many years! Bubba must have missed Van!

      Notice the line about “collective responsibility”? That’s the part about how they have all the illegitimate babies from many different men (remember the dude that has 30 kids from a dozen different women and pays as little as $2/month for some of the kids?) and the rest of us pay for it. Their kids drop out of school in their early teens to join gangs and do drugs. Crime? Simply a way of life for some, but the “collective” (meaning those of us that succeeded) get to pay for it.
