Have Race Relations Improved Under Obama?

Have Race Relations Improved in America Under Obama?

In 2008, the historic election of Barack Obama, the nation’s first African American president, spawned a plethora of hopes and dreams in the hearts and minds of a great many. Among these ideals was the aspiration that the nation’s race relations would improve.

Now, two years and seven months after the president took office, polls indicate that the American people don’t see major advances in this arena.

A new poll taken by USA Today/Gallup and released on Wednesday found that 35 percent of the nation believes that race relations have improved since Obama took office. Certainly, some would see this as a major victory in the battle for better interracial relations, but this proportion is actually down from the 41 percent that was found back in October 2009 (just months after Obama became president).

This isn’t good news on the racial relations improvement front, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel. It’s not as though people necessarily see racial tensions as devolving and intensifying. Politico has more:

The proportion of Americans who see race relations getting worse has essentially stayed the same, with 23 percent of those surveyed saying relations have gotten worse, compared with 22 percent who said the same two years ago.

While the situation certainly isn’t as bad as it could be, Americans had high hopes back in 2008. Gallup reports that one day after Obama secured the white house, 70 percent of Americans predicted that race relations would improve as a result of his presidency. Earlier that year, only 56 percent of Americans reported the same beliefs, thus there was substantial growth in this sentiment.

It‘s not as though the president hasn’t tried to address these issues. Remember the infamous “Beer Summit” back in 2009? For a refresher, watch the CBS report, below:

Back in 2008 — just one year before the “summit” — 65 percent of blacks believed there would be improvements as did 54 percent of whites. These proportions have dropped to 48 percent and 31 percent, respectively, showcasing the lowered expectations that are present among both groups.

Have Race Relations Improved in America Under Obama?

But, differences don’t only exist between ethnic groups. While 46 percent of Democrats perceive improvements in race relations, only 19 percent of Republicans feel the same. When it comes to the belief that Obama’s election was a milestone for African Americans, opinions have also shifted. Gallup has more:

The poll also finds a decline in perceptions of Obama’s election as one of the most important advances for U.S. blacks in the last 100 years: 42% say this today, fewer than the 58% who said so in 2009, and the 71% right after his election.

The decline is evident largely among whites, dropping nearly 20 percentage points from 56% in 2009 to 37% today, compared with a 6-point decline among blacks, 71% to 65%.

There’s no definitive explanation for these findings, but they do seem to illustrate a nation that does not view race relations as having improved to the degree citizens once hoped. What do you think? How have race relations been impacted by Obama’s election and presidency? Take the poll, below:

Now in my 60′s I was around for Martin King actually lived in Atlanta then, but never have I hear so much about race since Obama was put in office. Not elected but put in office by the ultra rich liberals who own and control media.. We know less about obama than any president in our country’s history..

Obama is a half breed, and as one, he knows that racism exists on both sides. He COULD HAVE BEEN a bridge between races, since he literally is one, but he’s chosen to play the easy side of the race card to get votes, get elected, and get sympathy. I (as a fellow half and half) am the most disappointed in him for THAT reason.

Really??? You say you lived when MLK was alive and you hear more about race now?? Excuse me, but I think that’s complete BS! When MLK was around it was in the heart of the civil right struggle! EVERYTHING WAS ABOUT RACE THEN!

The reason race relations have gotten worse under Obama is because you have a group of Americans that still can’t deal with the fact that the POTUS is black! Race relations haven’t gotten worse because of anything Obama has done! They are worse because he’s black!

He is known for bankrupting countries and changing regimes. This is what has happened. Joe biden said there’s no link between Communism and Islam. He is wrong.!
Joe also said that what they have planned for us will cause a revolution in this country.(and this was before the elections) Their convergence happened more than half a century ago. This video may be the most important one you will ever see. There are 10 parts, part 8 makes the connection.

The fact that the POTUS is HALF-AA is not the issue. The fact he is a pinko commie D-Bag, like you, IS THE ISSUE.

The only side bringing up race is your side. And the fact your side votes on divisiveness and white guilt empowers the militants, drowns out the majority of good folks, and stokes the pissed offedness of racial relations.

I bet you’re one of those proud Democrat voters. Guess which party formed the KKK, Democrats. Guess which US Supreme Court Justice was a KKK Member, Democrat. What party was Grand Kleagle Robert Byrd, a part of? Democrat.

This headline is a JOKE right? Pleaseeee! Racism and the GET WHITEY movement have never been so strong since the 60′s as they are now. For those of you saying the race card needs to be destroyed…well…it all starts with me and you. When you are confronted by the black man and they accuse you of racism DON’T BACK DOWN. Stand your ground. Right now the black cloud in this country is emboldened because they know whitey will run for the tall grass when race is brought into the argument. Will you be challenged for your stand? Damn right you will. And it will continue until they realize we mean business and refuse to back down. tHEN AND only THEN WILL THE TIDE EVEN TO CHANGE. I‘ve said it before and I’ll say it again…WE THE PEOPLE are not going to get out of this mess without it requiring sacrifice from us all…meaning its going to cost YOU and ME something. You obviously view everything through the lense of race and how the rest of America is getting its just desserts for all the wrongs it has ever committed. Thomas Daddy, we all agree the black race has been an issue for far too long. Race has been and will be an issue as long as the blacks do not stand up on their own and earn the respect of fellow Americans. I think its time to end all racial benefits. America needs to level the playing field again and say all men (& women) are equal, no fend for yourselves.

“Have Race Relations Improved Under Obama?”

      Lets examine the comments:

“we should never allow another black man to be elected until the race card is destroyed”
      “Obama is a half breed”
“Be prepared for riots that will make Rodney king look like kindergarten”
“I think less of blacks after seeing their glee at the idea of getting money from “Obama’s stash”.”
“Blacks haven’t been disliked for thousands of years because of their skin color, they have been disliked because of their actions, you put them front and center, their actions become clear, and they become more and more disliked no matter what you do. You can put makeup on a pig”

That’s just a few from this page alone! This sort of ignorance didn’t come about because of the election of Obama! These people were already ignorant and borderline racist! The fact that Obama was elected broke the damn! Not one of you can factually back up a claim that Obama is racist! I’ve seem many reasons given, but none that was supported by factual information! He’s not the problem! Remember, when you point the finger at someone, you have 3 fingers point back at you! Take a look in the mirror!

This “your side” nonsense is what perpetuates the strife in race relations! The fact that you think you can condemn a race based solely on the actions of a few makes you more ignorant than any other intolerant nonsense you spew! The fact that you thought you were giving a history lesson to someone who wasn’t aware of the history of this country is also laughable! I’m fully aware of the political party history of this nation. I’m also aware of the metamorphosis of the parties. If you were aware of the same you would understand why more minorities identify themselves as Democrat, and despite what you may be thinking right now, it has nothing to do with entitlements! I pity you more than I’m angry at your words!

If you have policy disagreements fine! The problem here is that you seem to think (and i’m assuming you are referring to the tea party with the “terrorist” “racist” comments) the tea party is being call terrorist and racist because of the way you want your taxes spent. No. The terrorist comment came as a result of the far right holding up the debt ceiling legislation in order to put spending cuts in the bill. The racist tag on the tea party, well, I mean come on. There were some really racist signs, comments, and propaganda coming from them. Then not to mention Rand Paul’s statements regarding the fact that he would have voted against the civil rights act. This is not to say that all tea party members are racist! The fact that people are able to distinguish individuals from a group for whatever reason seems to be this country’s biggest problem.

“obama and holder have let the “black panthers” intimidate white voters… Black “flash” mobs are free to attack white citizens and rob stores at will… Whites are prosecuted for “hate crimes” while blacks are immune to prosecution…”

Immune to prosecution? What country do you live in? Over 2 million individuals incarcerated in american and blacks make up 40% of that population! How in the hell is that “immune to prosecution”?

And if you look at the security footage of the flash mob robberies you’ll see a bunch of white kids as well!

“Yet, it is the white citizens that pay taxes so the blacks can draw welfare, aid to dependent children, etc. and sit on their @sses drinking beer they buy with food stamps…”
LOL!! So whites are the only tax paying race in this country? I knew I shouldn’t have bothered! By the way, you can’t purchase alcoholic beverages with food stamps! It’s my understanding that they no longer issue food stamps. Its done with a sort of debit card now.

This country will always have issues with race as long as there’s people like you. Ignorant and still holding onto what once was, even though what once was was a horrible time in this country! Keep thinking that the south will rise again! LOL

“Stop with the African American: ”
Something we kind of agree on. I’ve never been a fan of this term. I do however; understand the premise and reason behind the need for it! It’s used because there are Black Americans in this country whose bloodline has been so diluted, and their ancestry can’t be traced to a particular country in Africa. Obama is not an “African American” because his black side can be traced back to Kenya. I prefer to be called black, because reading the comments on this thread it doesn’t make me feel like much of an “American” at all! This is the America I’m ashamed of!

“Race relations in this country are worse today than 3 years ago, no question, hands down worse…”

Race as in “race for the free money”?

Lets put it this way, when we all have equal freedom we are free to succeed or fail on our own merit. People work together because we strive to be better than our competitor. That is equal freedom…the concept of America.

However, when government interferes and says it will create “equal rights” then certain groups now have MORE rights than others. This causes divisions, resentment and rewards laziness. We all know it is wrong… now there are groups with MORE rights and most people denied freedom. In the end there is division. Kind of like giving one child everything and the other you tell “you’re on your own…” Just what do you think will happen? Do you think their relationship will be stronger?

That story line about the tea party holding up the raising of the debt cieling is misleading. Americans like me don’t believe that, watching the prviouse behavior of our government, this money and the “revenue” they hope to raise will not go to reduce our debt but will go to fund failed policies. I think most Americans, at least the many I speak to here in liberal St Pete Florida, agree with this view. The message is lost when you decide to spew party line talking points. This isn‘t the superbowl and you don’t have to take sides, just form an educated opinion an be open for debate. The day after Obama got elected I went into a Subway, where I usually eat lunch, and the black kid who normally takes my order looked happy. That made me happy, because I thought, “it’s really awesome that this kid will have a role model to inspire him.” Three years later, I look at ignorant people like Maxine Waters, Frederica Wilson, Sheila Lee Jackson, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, or Hank Johnson, who are the face of black America, and I think, “these morons hate America and they need to be stopped at all costs.” Obama is a punk and he has appealed to the thuggish, entitled nature of people in the ghettos, instead of inspiring them to greatness. Sadly, if I wasn’t prejudice before that idiot in the White House started destroying America with his divisive hate mongering, I sure as hell am now. Obama has set back race relations 60 years and until Americans in the black community realize that charlatans like Obama are no better than the crack pushers in their ghettos, the divide between black Americans and white Americans will continue to be exploited by Liberals.

Now, I must correct you on the food stamp program. I stand in line at one of the downtown grocery stores and I often overhear cell calls asking to buy or sell food stamps or ebt cards. This program is widely abused. I witness it first hand. So yes, drugs, booze and tobacco are being purchased with my tax dollars on a wide scale.. The WIC program is more efficient. A dietition puts a list of items together that you are only allowed to be purchased with this check. The items are specifically listed buy brand and size. The only problem with this program is that the parent or guardian will try to purchase an unauthorized brand declairing that “they” don’t like the other brand. What does the W in WIC stand for? Women!

Women, Infants, and Children. Because, obviously the mother has to eat well too to have healthy babies and children. I do not have a problem with a mother requesting a certain brand because she or her child does not like the one allotted. But, I do agree with you that like all the other social welfare programs going, WIC is also being abused.

Now, well… times have changed. I see the arrogance, get out of my way, you owe me attitude and I am completely turned off. They park in the handicap spots with no placards, don’t leave tips and feel they are above simple manners, morals and values.

This is not all, there are also white trash that are taking advantage of this as well…now I am in a quandary. It is not in my nature to “not be polite”, but I know these people will walk all over kindness….what to do….

I still go out of my way to make friends with people of color. I will do so until my dying breath because to not do so means the leftist progs win their little race war. I won’t be used. I am not stupid. I know that color does not define character. It does not define morality. I am white and do not believe that my color (or anything else) entitles me to anything, nor is it superior to any other color.

But- just as I saw another poster say- I do not care what color of bear you are: brown, black, white, purple, or blue. You come at me or my family to do harm and I will defend myself. I will defend my family, my neighbors, my friends.

Pretty soon we’ll be able to play the white card, if we choose to. We get called names, but they aren’t in the same category as the “N” word. They‘re all right because they’re aimed at whitey, who is the new boogey man. Obama creates tensions where there wasn’t tension. He fans the flames.

My neighbor truly is African American. He’s originally from Africa, and came here LEGALLY. His kids (one of whom is my son’s best friend) are so polite. They’re from Nigeria. So unlike the other “black” kids in the neighborhood who expect a living provided by the government. He is a doctor and works at a clinic long hours. He has a large family, but is divorced so my son only gets to see his friend half a year.

Those who have never even seen Africa shouldn’t call themselves African Americans. People of color is what I was told by one woman is what she likes to be called. I can see that. Color is only a discriptor, so when you have a crowd of people you can say that white woman with the purple handbag, or that black woman with the really pretty shoes, whatever. And a lot of people had their hopes pinned on Obama as a bridge between the races, only to have him fan the fires. You want examples? The white sheriff acted stupidly, yet black people are let’s not jump to judge. You don’t think over half the population is black do you? And I know blacks who hate Obama, are they racist, too?

I lived at Pearl Harbor for 3 years. Whites are the minority. Me personally, I loved it. I didn’t feel like I was in the minority. I got to experience all kinds of different cultures. The only prejudice I ran into was against the Navy. Howlies. That came from the drunken sailors who used to come into port and raise a ruckus. I did have an aunt who came to work at Tripler Army Medical Center and house sit for someone. She couldn’t handle being in the minority. I enjoyed learning the subtle differences in the Oriental races. At first, I thought it was rude when the Chinese would be so close to you in line that they would actually hit you with their buggies, or carts, depending on the part of the country you’re from. Then I realized that, when you think about it, it makes sense. Ameicans have a large personal space, because we have a lot of space. They have a much smaller “comfort zone” so see nothing wrong with standing that close. Once I realized that, it didn’t bother me.

No, and you still haven’t given any example of racial division on the part of the Obama.

“Does anybody think that the ******, anti-government people are going to support them if they bring down health care”
This is not a direct quote from Obama!! This is what Earl Blumenauer was quoted as saying Obama said! Heresay at best!

“if we choose to keep a tax break for corporate jet owners…then that means we’ve got to cut some kids off from getting a college scholarship”
I like how you “…..” over the fact that he was referring to Oil and Gas companies. This quote (partial quote) was emphasising the fact that letting companies making Billions in profits while paying a low tax rate could hinder the government grants for college education! It’s not like educations funds are the last touched when cuts have to be made!

      The entire quote!!
“If we do not have revenues,” Obama said in arguing for raising taxes during a press conference on Wednesday, “that means there are a bunch of kids out there who do not have college scholarships … It means we might not be funding critical medical research. It means food inspection might be compromised. I’ve said to Republican leaders, ‘You go talk to your constituents an ask them, “Are you willing to compromise your kids’ safety so some corporate-jet owner can get a tax break?”’”

““I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.” — Obama”

On its own, the quote can be interpreted as Obama rejecting his white heritage and, by extension, the entire white population. But, in full context, the statement is part of Obama’s assessment of “black or white” individuals’ first impressions of him as a person of mixed race.

Go read the entire quote please! Geezzz!!!

“I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.” — Obama

This is not an Obama quote, nor does anything remotely like this exist in his book!

Steve Sailer: He inherited his father’s penetrating intelligence; was raised mostly by his loving liberal white grandparents in multiracial, laid-back Hawaii, where America’s normal race rules never applied; and received a superb private school education. And yet, at least through age 33 when he wrote Dreams from My Father, he found solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against his mother’s race.

I really don‘t have the patients to debunk the rest of this nonsense you’re posting! I will leave with a piece of advice thought. Don’t debate someone using a chain email to substantiate you views! Not a good look!

@ Thomasdaddy- I have read the thread in which you go toe to toe with many Blazers with whom you disagree. Both you and they got down and dirty, with the pejoratives and ridicule. In one response you stated that no one can “make” a person a racist who already wasn’t one to start with. Do you know the meaning of the word? It is a person who believes that one human race is superior over another. In light of that I believe there are some racists on this site but I further believe that more people are either A. so sick and tired of being labeled racist for opposing Obamas policies that they are angry and lashing out or B they are people like me who harbor FEAR of blacks. One need only spend a few minuets a day searching news items to glean the truth about blacks and crime. I’m at the point of conceal and carry in order to protect myself. Did you see the mobs at the Wisconsin State Fair? Have you seen the hoards of black teens in Phila and several other big cities? Did you hear the speech by Mayor Nutter of Phila who spoke to the young thugs. He told them they are damaging their own race. Are you not paying attention? I don’t understand how someone like yourself, obviously educated and articulate, does not understand human nature. Watching blacks commit these horrendous acts against whites for no other reason then they ARE white, and then questioning people who fear becoming a target ? No, there is less racism than you think. A lot more anger and fear.

I appreciate you keeping it respectful. When my husband and I were first married he was serving in the Army. Ft Campbell, KY. Our first child was unplanned and we were not ready. We used WIC and were grateful for it. It is the only time that we have ever had to use any kind of public assistance. Anyway- we did not abuse the program. We got the items allotted for the time frame specified. Here we are some 17 years later and my husband makes a good income. We donate to several well fare programs as well as churches and so forth. For us, the system was a hand up, not a hand out. Now we are able to help others and we do because it is the right thing to do.

Baked ravioli- yum. I finished off the last of the chicken we smoked for dinner last night.

You tell them they go into personal attacks when that is all you do! You have been given one after another of evidence that most people are upset with Obama’s policies and that he has stirred up race warfare with all his class warfare. And if you think he hasn’t played class warfare, you clearly do not pay attention. The democrats are still the racists and you know it. Only instead of acting racist to blacks, they act kind but keep blacks down and dependent on government and not themselves… and you know it, no matter how much you want to deny it. By the way, I support Herman Cain, so please don’t try to call me racist. I’m sure you reply is going to be filled with attacks about how ignorant and stupid I am, because thats all your replies really are. And by the way, there is no audio or visual evidence of tea partiers saying anything racial and acting racist to blacks. What you are considering racist are the Obama/Hitler signs. That is somehow racist to you but it was fine when people did it to Bush. And yes, some whites are racist to Obama just as some blacks were racist to McCain or Bush. Voting for someone because of skin color is just as racist as not voting for someone because of skin color.

      TDaddy-

AGAIN- I have seen numerous legitimate examples provided on this board indicating that Obama is not only a race baiter, but a racist himself. The fact that you dismiss claims of genuine fear either suggests that you are out of touch, in denial, or both. In fact, I am inclined to believe that if Obama was in your living room, at this moment, saying “geesh T-Dog, I f”..n hate white people.” You would still have the audacity to come on here an defend him as a nonracist human being. You get what I am sayin? Even if someone posted a video of Obama saying the worst of racial, bigoted remarks, you’d come on here and say, “naa, that ain’t Obama.“ ”ah naw, calling a white person a honkey, whitey, or *******, ain’t racial.“ OR ”Well, when he said he F’…N hated white people, he said it with love- he ain’t racist.”

You really should try to listen to those who have legitimate arguments- otherwise, you lose any credibility for your position. Unless- you don’t really have a position, no objective for making your argument. If that’s the case, then you just need help.

@ Thomasdaddy- You seem to be a very closed minded individual. You may have the luxury of having no fear. You too are black so the black hoards will not attack you. They ONLY attack white people. There is a piece on Drudge today that some are now targeting only OLDER white people, their weakest prey. Isn’t that lovely? Guess what, I AM an older white woman. And I have no reason to fear them? Get real! I avoid areas where black congregate, the stores where they shop, the restaurants where they eat. I may be old but I’m no fool, There will not come a time when some observer will say “she shouldn’t have gone there, she should have known better”Well guess what, I do know better. I have not yet become a prisoner of my fears. I have a life outside these 4 walls. But I have the good sense to avoid dangerous areas, There is a section of the town in which I was raised that is referred to, by our local media , as the “high crime area” Guess which race inhabits it. You know the answer, I needn’t tell you. If you want to be honest with yourself you will admit your race has a real and growing problem with crime. You never will though. You feel obligated to defend the defenseless because you are a brother. Maybe I will never understand your thinking, but I know full well you understand mine, you just won’t admit it. By the way the English World Dictionary lists 4 meanings for the word racist and none of them matches yours. Which dictionary did you reference?

Nothing will change the current racial status quo until the white race bands together and demands change. Sorry to be so blunt, but if you‘re lookin’ for Racial Sensitivity Training for Wayward White Folks 101 you come to the wrong place, homey. This country was founded on one principle above all others and that is the concept of MAJORITY RULES. In natural law that is necessary for the survival of every species. That is also the basis of all democracy and it‘s how we’ve been deciding lil’ things like elections and laws for most of the past 200+ years. Without it, civilization as we know it quickly devolves into chaos, or more precisely, the law of the jungle. And being civilized is the key to success. That is the main reason that the white and Asian race have dominated the planet since the very beginning. For the most part the other races haven’t and have failed miserably. You don’t have to look further than your flat screen to see this scenario played out over and over again all over the world. But more often than not, well meaning misguided white liberals are the biggest enemies of the white race itself. The situation in South Africa is proof of what happens when a civilized society is completely wrecked and forced into third world status by outside agitators with their own agendas. In less than 20 years SA devolved from one of the safest and wealthiest nations to one of the most dangerous and disease ridden places on earth. Pride in your race will ensure it’s sur

Even if you have your own business, which I doubt, I can predict your even handed hiring practices. Minority contractors have been forced on the public for so long that bad construction is the norm. But it gives maintenance something to correct when people like you are gone.
And for the subject at hand… Obama is a race baiting, jackleg, crumb on the floor of the world stage.
He’s not fit to eat at the same table as Americans. He’s a small minded, protagonist with delusional aspirations of world conquest that only can be achieved by trickery and deceit. Which you condone by submission to a tyrannical rule.

Sorry dude but pushing that you only hate obama because he is black thing is old and about as stupid as anything I ever see typed in these comment sections. First of all the dude is only half black, no one ever talks about that but it is the freaking truth. Second, how is it that if you are white and you disagree with EVERY political ideology that your messiah has, that somehow that makes you an automatic racist? Are you trying to insist that just because the dude is half black that we have to agree with everything that he does? I hated John Kerry for the exact same reasons that I hate Obama and I don’t think they are cut from the same racial cloth, I don’t believe in redistribution of wealth I think it only squelches innovation and if you really want to know the truth burdens the minorities unfairly by taking away their innitiative to want to better themselves on their own.

The problem is black racism. It is something that must be addressed and must become shunned. Blacks have been allowed to vote and be only for those of their same skin color with nothing being said of how wrong that is. They have also allows their votes to be bought by the progressive big government politicians. Racism must be shunned all the way around.

Man you sure do bitch alot about other people being racist, all the while every freaking statement you make is race based. I could give two s@#$s about whether Obama himself is racist or not, I don’t care one way or another about how he feels about me because I am white. What I do care about is socialistic policies which are bankrupting our country and the fact that he surrounds himself with the very type of people that I thought I was defending our country against while in the military. I am glad that you are so proud that we have a black president but don’t you think that you could at least look at something past that? The true measure of a president should be at the end of the day has he made things better for this country, and I am talking about this country as a whole, not just one race, but giving an equal opportunity to all to succeed. All I have seen from Obama is pitting us all against one another, you aren’t supposed to call a significant portion of the population your enemy, we are all countrymen whether you like it or not.

“………70 percent of Americans predicted that race relations would improve as a result of his presidency. Earlier that year, only 56 percent of Americans reported the same beliefs, thus there was substantial growth in this sentiment.”

If 56% of people believe that racial relations have improved, the people here are more screwed up than I originally thought.

Race relations, in fact, have gotten so much worse we are TRULY on the verge of racial war. All it’s going to take to go beyond the tipping point is for the economy to worsen and unempoyment to increase.

I don’t know why anyone in authority would worry about a terrorist or anybody else who tries to foment violence, because nobody has to foment violence. It will occur as a natural consequence of a multicultural society all on its own.

You misunderstood me. Because Obama has refused to close our borders, people are prejudiced more against brown people in general. Because Obama plays the race card all the time, and allows those who follow him to play the race card, people are more racist towards black people. People are against Obama because of his policies, not closing the border, making a nanny state out of America, letting his staff say things like the Tea Partiers (who have never had a violent incident at a rally that I know of) be called terrorists, all the while saying we need to control our speech. Oh, he means the opposition (to him) needs to control their speech, while they can spew hate any time they want to and be defended by our Pretender in Chief. He’s the typical make the rules fit what I want to do person. If he thought all the white people would be behind him, he’d play up the white side more. Anything to get it done.

I see you never address my statements that don’t concern racism. I stated my son’s best friend is African American (as in his parents are from NIGERIA, making him an actual African American. I have a really good friend who is black. She made the comment to me (and she is the one who thought of it) that it was neat that I drank my coffee black, and she drank her’s white (lots of cream). I have good race relations with my black (and brown) friends. I agree with the post who said it’s more a fear issue, or just plain angry of always being called a racist, while we watch the black racists being told they can‘t be racist because they’re black. To vote for a man for president strictly because he‘s black is just as racist as not voting for him because he’s black. Did I vote for Obama, no. Would I vote for Herman Cain or Alan West, in a heartbeat. I even have a friend from India, and Columbia. I love diversity. I hate race baiters who continually exploit any divisive thing they can find (race, sex, religion, class, etc.) in order to further their own agenda. Don’t let a good crisis go to waste. He‘s just mad because he couldn’t bait the Tea Partiers into violence, so he turned to the uneducated or brainwashed masses, no matter who they are.

He offered to start me off at ten thousand dollars the first year, with a two-thousand-dollar travel allowance to buy a car; the salary would go up if things worked out. After he was gone, I took the long way home, along the East River promenade, and tried to figure out what to make of the man. He was smart, I decided. He seemed committed to his work. Still, there was something about him that made me wary. A little too sure of himself, maybe. And white – he’d said himself that that was a problem.

@ T-Daddy- This will be my last answer to you. I have NEVER asked you to justify my fear, just to understand it. If the thugs who commit these horrible crimes were somehow identifible, you would have a valid point. The only characteristic they all bear are their race and their age group. Even the females involve themselves in flash mob violence. Since it wouldn’t take much of a beat down to cause someone my age and size (5′1”& 108 lbs) not to mention my gender, irreparable harm and even death what would you suggest I do to avoid that possibility. Hypothetically speaking, how does one ascertain the difference between a group of young blacks out for an evening of harmless fun and a group of thugs looking for some old ******* to beat up? I’m sorry, but I have to protect myself and the only way I know how is to avoid areas and situations which cause me discomfort. I know there are more law abiding members of your race than not. However even you have even quoted stats to verify the fact that crime is a major problem. Unless recognized and addressed it will only get worse as will race relations. I don‘t believe it’s Obamas’ fault directly. I do believe if he were to address the issue, much like the mayor of Phila. did, he would gain a little more credibility with a segment of voters who think he is a bit of a racist.

And I don’t! I don’t understand how you can expect me to understand your fear of an entire race based on the actions of a few! That right there is what perpetuates the unease in race relations in this country! I have PLENTY of reasons to dislike, distrust, and disassociate myself from people of other races, but I don’t! You know why? Because not everyone of that race gave me cause to dislike, distrust, and disassociate myself. It was a few people, and those individuals are the ones I stay away from! I will NEVER understand the mentality of a person that labels a group based on the actions of a few! NEVER!
“Hypothetically speaking, how does one ascertain the difference between a group of young blacks out for an evening of harmless fun and a group of thugs looking for some old ******* to beat up?”
How can I tell the difference between a group of white guys out having fun or a group of white guys looking to kill a N****r? I can’t, and I refuse to fear all white people or avoid them because of that chance! I have an 8:30am tee time on Saturday and 1 of the 4some is my neighbor whose wife is good friend with my wife and they happen to be white! I know good people, white and black! They feel they should automatically be given preference above all else for their poor choices in life due to outstanding factors such as being born (in their minds) in a hostile nation. Then appearing dismissive in the face of facts when fear of compromising their obtrusiveness is the root reason for their boringly lengthy outbursts.

The police were able to nab him the following day when he was again caught on the parking lot security camera breaking into unattended cars. He was probably bored and looking for something to do. Apparently there were no basketball courts nearby. The victim should have known better than to put herself in a dangerous situation. If you get my drift.

Allow me to say this: Barak Hussein Obama has brought division across every conceivable line and group in America. Black people as a whole did not hear him when he got up on national TV and said “I AM NOT BLACK!” Now, I understood what he was saying (I think), but at the same time I also understood that he was making it very clear that he does not identify directly with the Black community in America. So, the Black community should not be surprised that things are truly not better for them (us) but worse! I, for one, happen to believe that race relations have become much worse since he has become president and I think it is because he has been so vocal about “spread the wealth”. The majority of Black America is downtrodden ~still, evidenced by the large number of those still living in ghettos, slums, etc., along with all of those who continue to be offered (and take) the hand out rather than the hand up. Because Obama has brought distinct class and economic division we now have a deeper division in race because most underprivileged Black folks believe that most average white people have more, get more, and do better than they. The Democratic party fought to keep slaves enslaved during the Civil War and their position obviously has not changed. But slavery is a demonic spirit that affects everyone on both sides of it whether they realize it or not. Whites taking up position against Blacks and vice versa is obvioualy not the answer.

“In 2009, the United States deported a record 387,790 people – a 5 percent increase over 2008. Nearly two months before the end of the 2010 federal fiscal year, the deportation rate is down slightly from 2009, but the number of removals is still likely to be more than triple what it was in 2001.”
It’s not that hard to find, but then it wouldn‘t support you argument since it’s the TRUTH!

I really do pity the people on this thread with the colossal level of ignorance you share!

@ Thomas and Cosette. I like Cosette. What we need is an old black woman to talk the talk needed to instill some much needed wisdom in this younger generation of Blacks. I know i dont defend any young punk white kids, i tell them to shape up. I think it would do Thomas some good to do the same. Stop with the excuses, reveal some truth, understanind, wisdom, and the fear of God never hurt anyone.

@ T- daddy, I‘m sorry but I can’t resist. I NEVER said I didn’t LIKE black people. I said I FEAR them!!! You choose to read something more into it. I don’t have to surf the web to validate my fears. I only need to pick up a paper, turn on the t.v. news or talk to a police officer. I’m going to give you an analogy. I LOVE dogs, ALL dogs, including Pit Bulls. They are probably the most feared breed at this point in time. When I come across fellow citizens walking their dogs,I generally interact with them and their pets. When I spot a pit bull I say nothing. My experience with them as a breed has taught me to react that way. I would never hurt ANY animal, I love them all, but I do fear Pit Bulls. By the same token my experience with, and knowledge of young blacks has taught me to fear them. In case you’re wondering a close family member was brutally raped in her 6 month of pregnancy, almost killed, actually 46 years ago. She has never been the same. It altered our entire family dynamic. It happened while she lay sleeping in her bed and her husband was at work. Poor dear, she is a shell of a person. There were other incidents but that was the worse. So your impassioned stance is falling on deaf ears. My fears are reinforced daily and it’s only going to get worse when the riots break out after Obama looses the election. And when it happens think of me.

I, too, am in my 60′s. There has never been such a divisive President in my memory. Clinton will be remembered for the rancor between Republicans and Democrats and for ushering in ‘political correctness’. Obama, however, is definitely a ‘community organizer’ who will be remembered for pitting old against young, rich against poor, blacks against whites and smart against stupid! Guess where that leaves his followers?

      T-Daddy,
Thanks for your pity, but you can keep it! I guarantee you that 75% of the readers of the Blaze are far more educated than 100% of the blind, mindless, sheep that continue to follow Obama, simply because he is a liberal black. No, there is no factual basis on the above percentages…it’s an opinion.

Hey you’re right though…there is lots of facts out there. Here’s one I found…

“Obama’s plan also calls for sending only a fifth of the 6,000 troops deployed under Bush. It is unclear where on the border the soldiers will be sent. Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever, whose jurisdiction includes about 80 miles of the Arizona-Mexico border, said 1,200 soldiers might make a difference along a smaller portion of the border. “But if you spread it across the border, it’s like spitting into the wind,” Dever said.

And the only reason he sent the 1,200 was because of political pressure. Props to his administration if he is deporting record numbers of criminal illegal immigrants. However, he is not doing it because he wants the citizens to be safer. He’s doing it so that within the next 12 months, he can creat another “crisis” and force through amnesty…thus gaining him several million additional votes in 2012. I don‘t give a damn if he’s African-American, Kenyan-American, Scottish-American, or whatever. I do care that he is quite obviously anti-American.

And to make it worse, he is such a muslim infidel he helped divide the country with his cult from hell, Islam. Undoubtedly he is the worst person to ever be in the White House, and the facts prove that he is illegally in this office, but the political whores don’t have enough balls to remove and impeach him.

Have you ever lived in duh ‘hood? I did for two years when I was temporarily down on my luck. Every damn night it was the same thing. The bars close at 2:30AM here, at about 2:45AM they’d return, screaming, whooping, hooting like wild baboons fighting over a banana. There would be sounds of random gunfire and glass breaking. One night the power went out because of a storm. They took that as an excuse to all gather in the parking lot of the apartment complex and turn on their car stereos. You know, the stereos with the big bass speakers that can crack your foundation when they drive past. At least 10 of those were playing simultaneously while at least 100 of them were outside shrieking like wild apes. When the gunfire started, I had my family in the living room and told them to keep their heads down below the level of the windows in case any bullets came through. We moved out two weeks later, into a place I couldn’t really afford, but at least there weren’t any wild savages living there. I know so many of you, including otherwise sensible conservatives, want to live in an ignorant little bubble of utopian racial equality, but that’s just not the way it is. There‘s a reason those people are poor and can’t get by without a government handout.

You asked for a couple of policies that are bankrupting America how about Obamacare for one, 2000 page plus monstrosity that nobody except people opposed to it actually read, but somehow passed anyway, or the stimiulus bill which was going to keep unemployment under 8 percent but which spent about 100k or more for every job created. There are many more but you won’t acknowledge them anyway so I will stop there. This is my last post in response to you, I thought at first that you might be a rarity, someone who actually wanted to have an intelligent debate but I guess I was mistaken and you are the common garden variety troll who just wants to use the general Obama talking points memos, calls everyone in disagreement a racist and then a dumbass because you either don’t understand the point someone is trying to make or it was your intention to start namecalling in the first place. You live in the same country as almost everyone in this forum and completely dismissing someone elses point of view because it is not the same as yours is ignorance on your part.

People like Firedude are ovious racists, but I think it is the rest of us, who simply disagree with the President on all of his poilicies, that are sick and tired of being called racists. The term racists has lost so much meaning that when the TEA partiers are collectivley called racists, it loses it’s meaning (since most are not). I should have called out Firedude for his overtly racists comments, and I did not. I apologize. Most people on this thread would never dream of using the n-word…it is dispicable! However, I am no more a racist than you are a white man, so I’m a little bit tired of being referred to as one. I hope you are able to see it from my perspective.

But you see some of the nonsense posted on this site. It has little to do with political policy. I come on this site simply because most will not agree with me! Who wants to be on a political blog with only people who have the same view? That’s boring, plus you don’t learn any other perspective on issues that affect us all. However, when I disagree, I’m called a “Sheep” “Obamaite” “Muslim lover” “Marxist” “Commie/comrade”, you name it! It’s the same thing! I think it is safe to say that there are misinformed, uneducated, and bigoted people on both sides of this arguement. There is name calling, insults, and accusations being flung in both directions. The title of this posting was “Have race relations improved under Obama?” Whether you agree or disagree with him, I think it’s safe to say that the country has never been more divided than it is now. I can see the vitriol and hate speech everywhere I look. It is a shame that we, as Americans, can no longer engage in constructive debate and voice our opinions without getting so angry at one another. I agree with you that it is more fun to talk with those that have differing views, but I don’t think I could go on a left-wing political blog and listen to the hate and lies that are being spewed. I would not subject myself to being called a Tea-******, racist, terrorist, etc, simply because I vehemently disagree with the direction this president is taking our country. So, I hope you are truly coming on here to debate and not irritate/aggitate. If so, I look forward to many more debates with you!

P.S. There is another major disagreement between you and I…Jets vs. Broncos!!! Enjoy the rest of your day too, sir!

Though I had hoped for the other guy to win, sort of, I was energized at the thought of an African American president. How could race relations not get better?

I am astonished that he has not once taken the bully pulpit and clearly stated that disagreement with policy does not equal bigotry. If there was one issue he could be credible across every segment of American society, you would think race relations would be the one. Yet he has never, in my observation, equated the New Black Panthers with the Klan. Bigots both, racists both. He has not stated that a desire for a balanced budget, however we get there, is not a racist idea but a fiscal one.

This has been a disappointment to me, as a former Marine. My 30 years in that organization which is color blind put rose colored glasses on my eyes, and I have been astonished to retire, return from overseas and discover that the melting pot is not functional, but is apparently getting more dysfunctional as time passes.

Mr. Obama, or your staff guy who reads this, please take the opportunity to screw the fuses out of mines Ms. Waters, Ms. Pelosi and their ilk place in the road of race relations. Remove it as a component of the fiscal debate and place it back into the realm of policy. Please.

Obama has set black/white race relations back 30 yrs. Not because he is black and the country is going to hell, but because he and his supporters scream “RACISM!” everytime someone disagrees with him. Personally, I am tired of hearing what a racist I am because I happen to disagree with Obummer. My disagreement has nothing to do with the fact that he is HALF-black. it has to do with the fact that he is the worst president in our history (and that includes Jimmy Carter).

I wonder why there were claims that he was the worst president ever after a few months in office. It really has been going on in one way or another since before the election, with amazingly negative rhetoric being spewed from every R with a voice. I‘ve watched and followed a lot of politics for a long time and I don’t ever remember such nasty insults…even those directed at W. Why can’t we have it both ways…Obama is not doing his job well AND many republicans are racist. I personally don‘t care for rich old white guys who have lived an entitled life and have no sympathy for peoples’ suffering…and G.W. Bush was a bad president. See, a discriminatory attitude can exist right along side of a factual judgment.
Side note: I don’t want to define racism for everyone, but if you hold negative opinions about a race that you blanket on top of all people who are of that race…you’re probably a red-neck, i mean racist.

Racism: all but dead. Despite its past, the US is WAY ahead on this one.
Racial politics: kicking and screaming and desperately clinging to life.

The morning after, all those who depend on racism– for political power, or as an excuse for whatever failure– woke up with a big headache. Black man elected President by largely white population. They got right to work giving mouth to mouth to their beloved dying cause. Now they are screaming and wailing and trying to make us feel guilty for killing their breadwinning cause.

I’m white with 3 kids, I will not say that I thought that racism didn’t exist, but I will say that it was NOT an issue within our family while I was groing up. You see, I vote for a person because of character, honesty, and their individual moral views, not for any other reason. I judge every person for themselves. But I must say, I have never seen anything like what is going on now with African Americans in my life. I wasn‘t around in the 60’s, so I missed the injustices from then, but now I see AA’s trying to bring all that back. I have heard blacks say things about what whites have done to them in the past, even though they personally weren’t part of it, but I wasn’t either. Whenever I brought home a bad grade from school and tell my mother that “everybody did bad”, Mom would always tell me I don’t care what the other kids did, just what you did. Today, personal responsibility is out the window.

@Love The Kids – Finally – someone uttered the words ‘personal responsiblity’. That‘s the difference we’re looking at in today’s messed up world. I was raised in the 60′s – bore the (bloody) brunt of de-segregation and race riots in my school… Great black friends from Jr. Hi, turned on me in H.School – simply because of my color (white) – I then worked my rump off (and prospered) in spite of the mess that was/is affirmative action.

Bear in mind that all of us in our neighborhood – blacks and whites were raised up in the same socio-economic group. My sis went to college – paid for by our parents… I chose not to and did/do just fine!

We raised our kids (now grown) to be personally responsible for their own actions and wellbeing – and that of their families – and most of the same black friends who attacked me in H.S. went on to be Welfare Moms, and their kids continue the cycle.

So @ThomasDaddy! I’m not a racist… I AM cognisent of the bad the Nanny State has inflicted on those who chose to embrace it. NOW – it’s become habit – one they’ll fight to keep.

The failure to try and convict the Black Panthers thugs and the constant pandering to illegal aliens along with his diatribe aganist the police in Cambridge, MA is just creating a wider and wider gulf of mistrust between Obama and the average American.

Traditional America is getting an opportunity to observe the behavior of these peoples, and make more informed judgments about the true nature of race relations in the United States.

I don’t know about everyone else, but since Obama I‘m proud to officially say that I’m a racist now. The funny thing is it doesn’t bother me at all either. However, I consider it more as “cultural conflict” than I do as racism. I can’t stand other cultures anymore. And skin color isn‘t the reason I don’t like them, but it just helps in identifying them easier. I used to give them a chance, but they‘ve all shown their true colors and I’ve learned that deep down every minority hates whites despite the fact that whites now days take so much whining and so much crap from them. So as far as I’m concerned every last one of them can go straight to hell. And calling me racist has absolutely no effect on me, I view it as a dominant stance verse tolerance which is nothing but submission.

We need more people like Allen West, Herman Cain and other black men in leadership rolls, talking candidly to black churches, schools, organizations, etc., getting the word out that there are other possibilities for a better future. Right now the only voices I hear are Sharpton, Jackson, Obama, Sheila Jackson-Lee, etc., and their messages continue to be lies and race baiting.

He is using any and all trick in his books of witchcraft to cause trouble — divide, conquer, rule the masses as the “saviour of the little people and disenfranchised.” It will come around to his regret in the 2012 elections, I hope he is gotten out of office then.

It goes to show the simple fact of his priorities that when the earthquake hits DC, silence from our POTUS, Tripoli nearly falls yet Quaddafi is still free and Obama struts like a crowing rooster at the dawn of a new day.

Actually, since Obama has taken office the country has become very divided, as much or more than in the 60s. The difference really is, back then the blacks had a righteous cause, and the white establishment was wrong. the problem was corrected by law. Now, the Blacks, lead by the Chicago hoods and Obama has no noble cause, they just want to take money from the working man….white people, and give to non-working people, black folks. Remember, the line….“Just give us the money” chanted during the communist gathering on the mall.

You say race relations are worse, and I don’t argue that, but you don’t say (and no one else says with any level of fact) how Obama is the cause! The fact that you see my comment regarding the ignorance of the 2 comments I was referring to, and you never address them! So those are o.k.? The fact that you think whites are the only tax paying members of society and that black sit home waiting for their check from the nice white people is another ridiculous notion!

What am I seeing that I want to see? You people comment with such vague nonsense! Is this because you really don’t have a debatable point? Is it because you lack the ability to articulate you stance? Or, could it simply be because these are things you were brought up to believe, and have no freaking idea why you think the way you do! You’re talking about the world not owing me anything! Did I once say that it did? I’m a college educated black man who is very successful in his field. I don’t have any student loans and the only debt I have is a small mortgage after I put 75% down! There is nothing you have that I can’t get for myself! The fact is, you don’t believe there are more blacks like me in this country because it makes you feel worse about yourself! You need to think of us like leeches on society to get through the day!

O.K. we called each other ignorant. Now that we got out of the way; let me explain my position on how Mr. Obama is the cause of the poor state of race relations we are currently experiencing.
      1. Healthcare is no more than a way of re-distributing the nations wealth. Take from one segment and give to another. Who does this benifit? I say it benifits the recepiant class. They say that too. If you watched the process then you too saw more than one politician say so.
      2. Obama received over 95% of the black vote….is there a more obvious measure of racism. Of course blacks can’t be called racist for wanting to vote on a man just because he is black. That would not be right.
      3. I’ve read Obamas books, have you? If so then you know he is a racist. A real racist. One that was uncomfortable with his mother, and did not trust her because she was white. How can you have improved race relations with a sitting president (no capitalization intended) that hates white people. It is in both his books, which his pals in the press would not reveal.
      4. Every law, every execitive order, every rule issued has one goal in mind…..take from those that have and give to those that do not.

I would like to say that I did generalize too in my earlier post. Of course I know that many, many black citizens work, vote, and pull there end of the rope. I bet they too are a bit tired of giving to a cause that just demands more. Where I sit I feel that war has been declared on me and m

TD- I agree with you that Mac’s comment was stereotypical. I was going to comment about that and then saw that you addressed it.

However- you are very wrong. Not everyone on here has been vague as to why they think Obama is responsible for the increased divide in this country. I have read many legitimate examples.

Obama, himself, chose one race over another (in his book, which HE authored, he stated he harbored resentment of is mother’s race.) That is racist plane and simple and is one example of him encouraging the divide.

Second- The events that led to the beer summit! Need I elaborate?

Third, he went to a church for 20 years at a very anti-white church. Now, I know, you will say that just because he went there does not make him racist. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t. However, would you deny that life experiences shape our belief system? Our interactions with people on a continual basis influence our thoughts? Talk to any human behaviorist and they will tell you that they do. It is unavoidable. I believe that Obama does have racist sentiments because they were ingrained in him.

Finally- Obama is the leader of this country and his duties do not stop at protecting the nation from threats beyond our borders. He sees how racial tensions have grown and it is his duty and responsibility to address them. He should repudiate the violence and bigotry which occurred at the fair and he should repudiate the flash mobs. But he hasn’t. He is allowing the divide to

mac…I apologize for the late response. I was on another thread.
“Who does this benifit? I say it benifits the recepiant class.”
This is not a race issue, since the majority of uninsured americans are white.
“The uninsured are more likely to be white than other races or ethnicities, comprising about half of the uninsured population (48%).”

“Obama received over 95% of the black vote….is there a more obvious measure of racism. Of course blacks can’t be called racist for wanting to vote on a man just because he is black. ”
Bill Clinton got 83% and 84% of the black vote when he ran and averaged 46million popular votes. Obama received just under 70 million popular votes which makes up that difference in percentage. That’s proof Blacks vote demorcrat, not black!

“I’ve read Obamas books, have you? ”
And nothing in his books say that he didn’t trust his mother because she was white! Please post the quote! I debunked that further up with the false quote that notion is attributed to!he doesn’t hate white people, and I wish you would please quote a source for this ridiculous comment.

bought,o.k. so the notion of Obama harboring resentment for his mothers race is just a perpetual distrotion of the actual quote from his book. Here is the actual quote and the meaning behind it!

Actual quote from “Dreams from My Father” [pg. xv]: When people who don’t know me well, black or white, discover my background (and it is usually a discovery, for I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of twelve or thirteen, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites), I see the split-second adjustments they have to make, the searching of my eyes for some telltale sign. They no longer know who I am. Privately, they guess at my troubled heart, I suppose – the mixed blood, the divided soul, the ghostly image of the tragic mulatto trapped between two worlds. And if I were to explain that no, the tragedy is not mine, or at least not mine alone, it is yours, sons and daughters of Plymouth Rock and Ellis Island, it is yours, children of Africa, it is the tragedy of both my wife’s six-year-old cousin and his white first grade classmates, so that you need not guess at what troubles me, it’s on the nightly news for all to see, and that if we could acknowledge at least that much then the tragic cycle begins to break down…well, I suspect that I sound incurably naive, wedded to lost hopes, like those Communists who peddle their newspapers on the fringes of various college towns. Or worse, I sound like I’m trying to hide from myself.

      mac,
you and others are using the distortion of a chain email as evidence that Obama is a racist!

“Second- The events that led to the beer summit! Need I elaborate?”
Have you read the police report of that incident? The police did act stupidly! Read the actual police report, written by the officer in question!

‘Third, he went to a church for 20 years at a very anti-white church.”
You are saying that you know what was said in that church for 20yrs based on 90secs of youtube footage? Seriously?

Obama gave a speech in 2008 on national TV about race! People seem to forget that.

      nwal….

      You’d lose, my brother! LOL

My man, if you do not realize that this president is a racist I don’t know what to say; except tha Love Is Blind. By the way, I did not take you for a self hating honkey, I knew better than that right off. What you are not seeing, “flash mobs of young black people attacking whites” why do they feel so emboldened? Whites suddenly need fear to even walk the streets in Chicago, and other large cities.
Wanting to raise taxes on small businesses, to fund Obama give aways such as cell phones, extra money in the ole welfare check. By the way, Blacks voting Democrat is an example of how mislead they are. the stats you quoted I’ll take for granted as they prove my point. Even good ole Bill Clinton could not draw near as many votes as a true black man could.
You are right about one thing, it is not about race. But the Prez made it about race, he could have brought us all together instead of tearing us apart. Your quoted numbers for whites on welfare I’ll take for granted too; but sure it is….when Mr. Obama has done everything possible to destroy the jobs they had…Oil wells in the Gulf..you think those folks now on welfare are feeling the love? You know they were mostly white don’t you.
You are wrong about Obama’s book, I will find the quote and give it to you..as much as it will disgust me to put thumb to page again.
Have you read Atlas Shrugged? Just asking.
Hey, and we do know that the Rev. Wright is a bigot and preaches such every service right? Google

      Your quotes for Obamas books.
“There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.”-Truth!
This is a quote from Dreams from My Father. It it in a section in which Obama describes a job interview with a man in Chicago. Race had been a part of their discussion and the full quote is, “There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white—he’d said himself that was a problem.”
“It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.”-Truth!
This one is also from Dreams from My Father. It is from a section when Obama was a college student and wrestling with his identity including as an African-American
“I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn’t speak to my own. It was into my father’s image, the black man, son of Africa, that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, Dubois and Mandela.”-Truth!
This is from Dreams from my Father. The more complete quote is, “”Yes, I’d seen weakness in other men— Gramps and his disappointments, Lolo and his compromise. But these men had become object lessons for me, men I might love but never emulate, white men and brown men whose fates didn’t speak to my own. It was into my father’s image, the black man, son of Africa, that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the att

We can do this all day!!

Misleading e-mail: From Dreams of My Father : ; “It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.”

Actual quote from “Dreams from My Father” [pg. 100-101]: To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets. We smoked cigarettes and wore leather jackets. At night, in the dorms, we discussed necolonialism, Franz Fanon, Eurocentrism, and patriarchy. When we ground out our cigarettes in the hallway carpet or set our stereos so loud that the walls began to shake, we were resisting bourgeois society’s stifling constraints. We weren’t indifferent or careless or insecure. We were alienated. But this strategy alone couldn’t provide the distance I wanted, from Joyce or my past. After all, there were thousands of so-called campus radicals, most of them white and tenured and happily tolerated. No, it remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.

      mac…
      This is just pathetic!!

Misleading e-mail: From Dreams of My Father: “I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn’t speak to my own. It was into my father’s image, the black man, son of Africa, that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, Dubois and Mandela.”

Actual quote from “Dreams from My Father” [pg. 220]: Yes, I’d seen weakness in other men – Gramps and his disappointments, Lolo and his compromise. But these men had become object lessons for me, men I might love but never emulate, white men and brown men whose fates didn’t speak to my own. It was into my father’s image, the black man, son of Africa, that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela. And if later I saw that the black men I knew – Frank or Ray or Will or Rafiq – fell short of such lofty standards; if I had learned to respect these men for the struggles they went through, recognizing them as my own – my father’s voice had nevertheless remained untainted, inspiring, rebuking, granting or withholding approval. You do not work hard enough, Barry. You must help in your people’s struggle. Wake up, black man!
