Have You Seen Herman Cain‘s New ’Smoking’ Ad?

The new ad from GOP front-runner Herman Cain has pundits scratching their heads, using it to tie the candidate to lobbying money from big tobacco, and in some cases, just laughing out loud.
Watch the ad in question:
That’s Mark Block, Cain’s chief of staff. While it may seem curious that the Cain campaign has decided to use a high-ranking official as a spokesperson, it is even more curious to some that the ad shows Block smoking a cigarette.
During the opening segment of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, the hosts were tripping over each other’s words to express their surprise, shock, outrage, etc. Mika stayed in her role as hall monitor of the show and confiscated the pack of cigarettes that New York Magazine writer John Heilemann brought out as a comedic prop.
Michelle Goldberg, Senior writer at Newsweek and the Daily Beast did not seem to be concerned about the smoking, but she did take issue with the smiling image of Herman Cain at the end of the ad:

Over at The Atlantic, Cain’s ad was the all Senior Editor Garance Franke-Ruta needed to tie both Block and Cain to Big Tobacco.
Before joining the Cain campaign, Block served as Wisconsin state director for free-market advocacy group Americans for Prosperity, which has opposed state smoking bans.
Cain also opposed smoking bans during his years working in Washington on behalf of a restaurant trade lobbying group.
I guess you can call it a “smokin’” ad.
We would like to know how you feel about the ad. Take this short Blaze Poll and feel free to expand it by adding your questions (related to the topic at hand only, please).
BTW – The song heard in Cain’s ad is from Krista Branch. “I Am America” has been the official Cain theme song for a few months, but it has been heard at 9-12 Project and Tea Party events for over a year. The YouTube post of the song has been viewed over a million times.

Posted on October 25, 2011 at 8:34amI liked the ad – didn‘t have that ’big production’ feel to it but rather a no nonsense feel. Would have liked a bit more content about his (Hermans) ideologies. The smoking did seem odd but I’m not a smoker. On a side not – if Mika tried to grab my ciggies (or what ever my poison of choice) she would pull back a bloody stump.

Talk about desperate…
First he panders to bigots against muslims, then he panders to the religious right by interjecting Jesus, now he’s pandering to…smokers and the Tobacco Lobby?
What’s next? Herman Cain tossing one back in a bar scene?
Herman Cain performing an abortion, or delivering a baby?
Herman Cain beatboxing and rapping on a street corner?
I actually fell out of my chair laughing at this klutz.

Posted on October 25, 2011 at 10:58amMaybe Cain knows that the anti smoking lawyer groups and the whole business was a scam totally. The intitial suit was against the oil companies because of the smog from the cars. Somehow the oil companies got off the hook. One rumor was the oil companies shut off the oil in the 70‘s to press the Gov that they were part of National Security and coundn’t be sued. The next profitable company linked to lung cancer was cigarettes. It was a perfect scenario, smoking and smog for a person with genes not capable to fight was a slam dunk. Another rumor was the big pharma’s funded some of it just to supply the pills and patches to every state at a cost of billions only to be given away for free. The anti smoking groups bad mouthed the smell but they were the ones sitting in front of their fireplaces watching the equivilent of thousands of cigarettes go up in flames and feeling cozy inhaling the smoke and getting in their cars and sitting in traffic consuming exhaust while listening to music. It’s all a scam for money.

Why does he have to be tossing one back at a bar, is it because he is black and there are a lot of bars and liquor stores in the black community? Why would he be performing an abortion because he is black and the black community has the highest number of abortions and children born to different baby mommas and baby daddies? Why does he have to be rapping or beat boxing on a corner, is it because he is black? What would he be rapping about Pimps and hoes, guns, drugs, gangs or what hood he represents? You Vman you are a racist. Side note it is not pandering or bigotry to not trust Muslims it is called facts, history and common sense. I’m black. Herman Cain is a Federal Reserve agent.
I mentioned those hypotheticals because Herman Cain has tried to pander to certain groups, I just made up some hypothetical panderbear actions that he might engage in considering he…
#1 Pandered to bigots against muslims…
#2 pandered to the religious right by asserting that Jesus Christ was a conservative convicted by a liberal court…
#3 Just had a man unambiguously smoking a disgusting cancer stick at the end of his campaign ad…
#4 Flopping around like a fish out of water on the abortion issue…
If you and Herman Cain want to go around being scared of Muslims, that’s your prerogative. I for one don’t believe the official lie that muslims attacked us, I know that 9-11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB…and that our own federal government is seizing power based on their false-flag operations.
Perhaps you’ve heard of the Gestapo TSA VIPR checkpoints on Tennessee highways… if you haven’t you will soon. Those Nazis are coming to your town too…with their Nazi checkpoints and mobile guard towers…
Are you going to protect your house against THEM?!?! Or are you a BOOTLICKER??!?
What about your neighbors? Are you willing to protect them against the Nazi Police State intrusion?
Or are you YELLA???

Posted on October 25, 2011 at 3:25pmFirst off, get your effin tobacco smoke out of my air. It KILLS. You have NO right to turn me into a secondhand smoker. “If a person spends more than 2 hrs. in a room where someone is smoking, the nonsmoker inhales the equivalent of four cigarettes. Secondhand smoke contains twice as much tar and nicotine per unit volume as does smoke inhaled from a cigarette. It contains 3X as much cancer-causing benzpyrene, 5X as much carbon monoxide, and 50X as much ammonia.” http://www1.umn.edu/perio/tobacco/secondhandsmoke.html
Please be informed. Smoking is not a political issue; it is a health concern. “Secondhand smoke contains thousands of toxic chemicals, including: benzene, carbon monoxide, chromium, cyanide, formaldehyde, lead, nickel, polonium.”
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/secondhand-smoke/CC00023
If you care about children, abortion is not the only danger they face. Women who smoke or are exposed to secondhand smoke during pregnancy have a higher rate of miscarriages and stillbirths, an increased risk of low birth weight infants, and children born with decreased lung function. In children 18 mos. or younger secondhand smoke exposure is responsible for ~150,000–300,000 new cases of bronchitis and pneumonia annually; 53.6% of children aged 3–11 yrs. were exposed to secondhand smoke in 2007–2008. Lol @ “V-man, are you RACIST?”
AAHAHAAAAA!!
I’m black.
——–
SO??? FYI, there IS such a thing as black-on-black racism. It remains a largely ignored form of racial discrimination in America today. We are all aware of the plantation-owner mentality that is prevalent among the black ruling class. That is bad enough. However, there is also another kind of black-on-black racism that is hardly ever mentioned. Skin tone/colorism (the brown paper bag test) is still tacitly practiced among African Americans, whether or not they admit it is as reprehensible as white-on-black racism. . http://www.sptimes.com/2003/08/31/Columns/The_paper_bag_test.shtml
So, yes, you can be black and discriminate against other blacks because of their skin color and/or skin tone. Racial unity among African Americans exists only at the voting booth. Beyond that, it is just a myth, both here and abroad, where e.g., Arab Muslims discriminate against (and systematically kill) black African Muslims.
The irony of Herman Cain’s ad is that blacks are the racial group which has consistently shown the highest levels of exposure to secondhand smoke.

So, recently liberals everywhere have been pushing for smoking bans everywhere. Even in a persons own private residence or car. This is prohibition all over again.
I’m not sure I can put a finger on why. Is it because,…

———-
People on both sides of the aisle are susceptible to propaganda. When it comes to the candidate of our choice, the tendency is to ignore all daamning evidence and forget God. That‘s why He won’t raise up a man after his own heart, and all we are getting are power-hungry politicians.
BTW, have you checked out Cain’s church? It teaches liberal Christianity (an oxymoron). From a political perspective, that’s several notches down from Wright’s black liberation theology. However, in God’s eyes both churches distort the Gospel, which means He will spit them both out of his mouth. OK, you buffoon. SHOW ME where I “deliberately tried to infer racism.” I pointed out the folly of your REASON for declaring you COULD NOT be a racist.
“robinakilt played the race card”
Maybe, but I doubt it. It appears ROBINAKILT misconstrued your message to be racist, due to allusions to rap music and such.
“I just said that I‘m black to illustrate…the profound stupidity of suggesting that I’m racist towards…myself…because I criticize Herman Cain? I’M BLACK TOO!”
See my point? You didn’t learn a thing. You’re still stuck on the arrogant notion that you cannot be racist towards other blacks because you yourself are black. Blacks can be/are racist against their own; it’s fallen human nature.
“It means that the epithet makes absolutely no practical sense in reality considering I would be racist towards MYSELF”
Hahaha. Racism is never about “practical sense.” So lame. No, blacks who act that way don’t feel masochistic at all. They are deliberately cruel to their own.

You continue to ***FAIL***.
My mention of being black simply illustrates the absurdity of the suggestion that I’m racist based on the false assertion that my innocuous comment is some racist attack on Herman Cain.
It’s absurd – it isn’t IMPOSSIBLE for a black person to be racist towards other black persons, it is ABSURD to assert that I AM BEING RACIST towards Herman Cain based on the LOOSE interpretation of my comments, considering that I myself am black, and the person responding doesn’t know that FOR CONTEXT. You didn’t point out the folly of my reason, you totally missed the point of my reason, you failed to even ascertain my impetus!
So, in practicality, you’re incorrect in your assertions! You asserted that I mentioned my own color in order to state that I CANNOT be racist towards other blacks because I myself am black! I mentioned my own color to PROVE that it is ABSURD…absolutely ABSURD to assert that I am racist based on the loose interpretation of my innocuous comments considering the person responding didn’t know that I myself am black. It is ADDITIONALLY masochistic that I would be racist towards my own skin color, ADDING TO THE ABSURDITY!
proudnot2bliberal
Your ad hominem attacks on Ron Paul and his supporters add nothing to Herman Cain’s gimmickery. It’s a futile effort. Ron Paul’s record speaks for itself, Herman Cain has no record except a record of defending his former employer, the Federal Reserve bank.

Smoking is not a right. Second-hand smoke is deadly, but we have been brainwashed into believing it is a right. A cigarette not only releases poisonous gases into the air, but small particles of highly toxic pollutants which stay in the environment for hours. Nobody has a right to harm other human beings. I hate it when conservatives act like liberals and don’t even realize they are being hypocritical.

Rolling your own is huge right now, for very real economic reasons. Most of the state/local taxes levied on cigarettes is “per pack”. Even though the Obama tobacco tax did raise the cost of loose cigarette tobacco slightly, it is wildly cheaper to buy loose tobacco and roll your own.
Even cheaper yet is to go back to smoking your grandpa’s pipe, as pipe tobaccos did not get the Obama tax hike. Two weeks worth of Prince Albert pipe tobacco cost about $25.
Evidently Mr. Block is a “Frugal McDougal”

Yeah, to me the image of him smoking a rolled cig gives him a lean and mean, scrapyard dog quality. Maybe he thinks that communicate to certain people a quality about Herman’s campaign: that it’s scrappy and not a pushover.
It’s very very weird. Very counterintuitive for normal political campaigns. But maybe that’s the main message.
I can tell you this, SNL is going to go wild mocking that ad. I would if I were them. I can think of a number of ideas already of things Block could be shown doing that are politically incorrect or gritty. But Maybe that will still work to his advantage.

So he’ll be helping out the dems with his 999, building up their areas while giving no tax relief to republican areas.
Oh, and if the Cain – Newt debate happens with no one else joining in, you know which one is going to be shredded to bits – and it aint Newt.

Cain’s not going to win the nomination anyway; he’s not electable!
