A video honoring of Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, is displayed during the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012. Credit: AP
The much anticipated tribute video for Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) at the Republican National Convention is sure to leave a lasting impression throughout the rest of the GOP convention, just as Paul has apparently left one during his 22 years in Congress. The video features big name Republicans praising the Texas congressman for standing up for conservative principles, including Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and his son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).
“For those with dedication. Character. Faith and conviction. Sometimes that lonely path paves the way forward for millions,” says a narrator in the video. “Ron Paul. 22 years in Congress. He’s never voted for a tax increase. Never voted for a debt ceiling increase. Never wavered. Never backed down.”
“The role of government ought to be for the protection of liberty, not for the intrusion into our private lives,” Paul says. “I was surprised I ever won because I thought this message would not go well with the people.”
Paul’s wife says that her husband never thought he would get elected.
“When I first got to the House, I thought Ron Paul was nuts,” DeMint says. “But more and more I found myself voting with him.”
“Ron Paul is the only one I know who made a difference by making a point,” McConnell says.
Rand Paul said that Capitol Hill lobbyists don’t even bother with his dad because “they know he can’t be bought.”
“Ron Paul was Tea Party before there was a Tea Party,” said DeMint.
“Whether people want to admit it or not, Ron Paul changed the conversation,” McConnell concluded.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 10:38pmSo much spewing of hatred being expressed by others here — no wonder I know so many people who are 100% fed up with politicians and the party followers that they have already decided they will not vote at all. The name calling, the insults, the hateful labels, and after the wonderful Restore Love event that Glenn hosted seems it was all for nothing.
I am leaning to the ‘I ain’t playing the voter game this year’ with others I know. JUST so fed up with the petty bickering, insults, and ‘bot’ calling anyone whom one disagrees with.
I am turning off all coverage of the presidential elections in my home because I am fed up with the hostilities.
WHATEVER happened to the Restoring Love — the compassion, the kindness, the working TOGETHER for a better America. Didn’t take long for that all to just fizzle away….long gone….

Romney wasn’t exciting in 08 when he lost to McCain, he did a terrible job as a governor and he’s a terrible candidate.
I will not stand for a candidate who doesn’t represent my views. So, no, I will not vote Romney. Put a gun to my head and pull the trigger, still won’t change my vote. I am standing on principle because that is what the country needs, not another slick politician handed to us by the party elites.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 1:55amTo all of you saying a vote for Gary Johnson, a vote for Ron Paul or anyone but Romney is a vote for Obama, you will never admit you have a problem, just like an alcoholic, until you have lost everything!! This is what you are about to have happen. If you decide to vote for Mitt Romney, a Republican that leans so far left he is about to fall over, you will be responsible for another four years of Obama! Mitt Romney and his campaign committed federal crimes during the primary against an honorable man that has given 30 years of his life to service to the Constitution. They illegally stripped elected delegates from him, committed election fraud against him, treated him with disdain at the convention and now that they have pushed him aside, they are going after Gary Johnson, another honorable man that has a much better record as a governor than Mitt Romney!! The RNC and Romney campaign have changed rules for elections that make it impossible for any grassroots candidate (Tea Party), to have an effective campaign, EVER! They have stripped the peoples voice and that is absolutely reprehensible! If you vote for Romney at this point, you cannot be considered a true Tea Party voter. If everyone were to wake up to the dangerous dealings that Romney and the RNC are doing, we could elect Johnson, and we would get Democrats to vote for him also.
Time_2 below shows everyone that Republicans like him are the tories of yesteryear.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 8:59amMaybe Romney will force our vote like he Forced HALF of Maine’s legally elected delegates to be Romney delegates. We elect our delegates at the state convention, not at the caucus. The caucus is very informal. You write your choice on a piece of paper and pass them down to the Caucus Chair ( who may or not support your choice). There you elect delegates to go to the State Convention where these delegates vote for who THEY want for president and elect delegates to go to the Republican National Convention. All states have their own rules. These are MAINE’s rules. Maybe Maine should go back to having a primary.
The silence here on the Blaze about the details of the Rules changes at the RNC Convention is very loud. Just ’cause you don’t like Ron Paul.
WAKE UP!
First they changed Ron Paul’s delegates ( and several other states’ too)
But I din’t care… I wasn’t a “PAULBOT”….
Glenn says Romney is a man of character. I believe Romney is a good man. But Romney allowed McCain to push him around at the debates and he allowed the RNC to push him to go along with this disgraceful use of force. I don‘t want to believe this was Romney’s idea. We’ve had enough force already. What will this progressive candidate be like when president?
Obama’s America is not an option, but looking at what Romney allowed to happen the first day of the convention, the future looks bleak for America. Pray to our dear God.

Yesterday TSA searched Ron Paul‘s private chartered planes for bombs saying that Mitt Romney was in the area and they had to determine if Paul’s plane was a threat. They also did pat downs on his entire entourage, and finally stopped the harassment when a Paul assistant started to video tape the attempted pat down of Paul’s wife.
So let’s see, Paul was going to have the pilot fly the private chartered plane into the GOP convention hall in a Kamikaze attempt to take out Mitt Romney? TSA is the American Gestapo, and I am sure Romney supports their “efforts” 100%, just like Obama.

Bush

Bush
Reagan, was hated by the GOP and they did not want him.
before that we had
Ford
Nixon.
Only Reagan was a person that did something good for our nation, and he got it Despite the establishment GOP. Ron Paul would have been the same, except all media figures was threatended, and som lost their job/show for supporting Ron Paul. (Freedom Watch on Fox with Judge Andrew Napolitcano). Despte Ron Paul standing up for all that most Talk Radio personatlities have claimed to stand for. But they where told not even to mention his name, and being cowards, that they were they obliged. The media was nice to him after 2008 when he was no longer a threat, and his predictions from 1998 and 2002 came true they did give him air time and had him on their shows. But when it became apparant that he was the frong runner, the threats where made and the complisant cowards in media was more afraid of loosing their job, than standing up for their convictions. Sorry to say that Americans of today are cowards.

You should be ashamed, that you have helped the establishment GOP destroy the republican party.
Gary Johnson will be the first non Republican I have ever voted for. Me along with millions of Americans. So when Obama gets sworn in again, you can attribuite it to your lack of conviction in the prinsipals of our constitution, and in your ignorance, and on how easliy you fall for anything you hear on TV / talk radio. Instead of wasting your life on sports / TV and other usless dribble, you should have taken the responsibillity to be informed…
For the informed people we understand that we are fighting a fight of philosophy. Mitt is the philosophy of expediency and cowardice and today. Ron Paul is the philosopy of our founding fathers, long term succes comes from a small government, states rights, sound money, privacy, and private property as laid out in the constitution. It is Ron Pauls philosoply, that Gary Johnson is committed to govern by.
Forget 2016! Will there be a USA as we know it in 2025 if Mitt gets in? This is the time to through our support behind Gary Johnson, and the principals that he stands for, to send a message to the GOP, and if not undermind the GOP and replace it with the Libertarian Party.

The complete assasination of Peter Schiff in the CT Senate race comes to mind. Instead the GOP gave us the wife of a WWF magnate?. I suppose that is the yankee equivalent of sending Larry the Cable guy’s momma to the Senate.
While they would feign freedom and liberty – they champion the destruction of the same by trying to convince folks the NDAA is a “just” and “necessary” abridgement of the Bill of Rights. All 10 of them, in case anyone is counting.
They construct a false history of grandiose triumph and try to pass it off as immutable truth in opposition to plain, researchable fact. The authors of the 1860 Republican platform must be rolling in their graves with torment each time the 2012 platform is enunciated. On matters of policy, the two platforms are as diametricly opposed as comparing Marx to Mises.
There are lunatics roaming in every Party – they are identified by utopian sentiments like “I wish everybody could be like me – then we’d get along great!” and secretly bowing to the Fabian Socialist window with idolatrous ferver. Praying that they can create their own “perfection on earth”.

Ron Paul himself isn’t anyone to be afraid of. It’s losing the support of the fiscal conservatives in the party that has the GOP terrified.

The Car is going off the cliff at 100 mph:

I’m going to be real blunt. Mr Romney and Mr. Ryan are writing a big check that I hope their asses are big enough to cash. The RNC platform is pretty darn steep. Admittedly not steep enough on fiscal issues – but a drastic incline compared to the past 30 years of bullcrap ( from both sides ).
If they don’t deliver. Its over. Its just that simple.
Its pretty obvious the video is a ploy to garner my vote – and I likely will. But, that doesn’t mean it will be there in 2014 or 2016. In fact, if they don’t deliver on their platform noticably by 2014 – things will go very badly in the mid-terms. I’m not all that cozy with the strong-arming of Paul delegates at the convention. If Romney exhibits this type behavior as President, I’ll be just as adamantly opposed to his posterior as I am Obama right now. Count on it.
This is the Republican’s moment. If they win, they still have to deliver. If they don’t deliver – the party will be extinct by 2016. They will be remembered, rightfully, as Whigs.
So, back up your **** with results – or else. I may be regressing to my redneck roots – but that’s just how serious this is.
And yeah, aside from my business – my largest investment is in Hornady ballistic tip bullets for all my guns. Great rounds, makes my .357 as long range as a 30-30 used to be – with more damage.

Good.- then we understand what we’re agreeing on.
I want to clarify something. Ron Paul was burned by Reagan in the 80′s. Even though the scope of things may be different, I understand the basic situation. I suspect most of us do in some capacity. Ron isn’t endorsing Romney for the same reasons, and to be frank, is making his stand to keep the Romney promises honest. I understand that. Its not so much an affront to the RNC as much as it is a statement of “prove it”.
I feel the exact same way. It really is time to “prove it” or go away.
I sincerly hope that the modern incarnation of the Republican party “proves it”. I’m throwing down with them one last time, to give them the chance . An immensely important chance, as it may be the last for any of us. I really don’t like alot of what has gone on, but this is the last roundup on all accounts associated. We all know this, whether we like it or not.
As someone who knows the responsibility to uphold both his word and a blessing – firsthand – all I can say to Romney is, “Don’t let us down, this chance won’t come again”.

“The Car is going off the cliff at 100 mph:

That really is a pretty honest analogy you posted. It sums up what I think a lot of Dr.Paul’s people on here are saying.
You‘ve admitted that Romney will barely slow this mess down and we’ll all end up in the same place we would with Obama at the wheel,(the bottom of the cliff). Then you further admit that Ron Paul would reverse course, but in the process, there would be damage done to “the transmission”.
Just one question, wouldn’t it be a hell of a lot easier to fix a transmission, than to continue over the cliff and completely destroy the car beyond repair?
I don’t know about you,but I don’t want to ride with anyone who would deliberately drive a car off a cliff. It also sounds a bit crazy in your analogy, that Mitt is going to “buckle up”,like he’s enjoying the ride. The only thing missing in your story is the maniacal laughter from him as the car plunges over the side.
That sounds crazier than anything I’ve heard from the Ron Paul crowd!
Report Post »OhioRifleman
Posted on August 30, 2012 at 10:48am@ Freebird
I think the analogy is still apt. Obama revs it and goes over the cliff. Romney taps it but still goes over the cliff. Ron Paul puts it in reverse, guns it, and destroys the transmission. It still doesn’t stop the car, and we go over the cliff, only the transmission blows out and frags everyone in the passenger compartment before they crater on the ground below.
Three courses, death regardless.
I have kept myself out of the Paul / Romney debate deliberately, mainly because I have known for some time that we are well past the point where it does not matter. Ron Paul, Romney, Obama, all window dressing of different colors on a department store about to be struck by a wrecking ball. Changing the curtains does not change the inevitable fate of the building.
America is effectively Rome writ 2 millennia later. We have not learned from the history of the planet, mainly because history is no longer properly taught. We are self-destructing, whether you want to ignore it or not. All that remains is the final swing of the reaper’s scythe.
For those of you who are prepared, I say you are never prepared enough. For those of you like me, who have not had much opportunity to get prepared, keep working on it. If Mitt wins, he delays the inevitable wipeout hopefully long enough for you to solidify your positions. For those of you who think this will never happen, good freaking luck and say hello to Darwin for me when you arrive.

What are the chances the Obama Administration makes a grab for power or suspends elections?
________________________________________________________________________________
Chances are very high.
The further Obama slips in the polls – the higher the chances get. The more dialogue that goes on to actually bring this nation back to its core, Consitutional principles – the higher the chances get. The closer “The People” get to putting the Government back into its rusty cage – the higher the chances get.
Sadly, the closer fanatical zealots from all sides of this debate (partiularly at the top) get to realizing there is no “Utopia” – the higher chances get.
Its not going to take much to push the equation from theoretical to reality. The only unknown variable left is whether we have a “Reichstag” or a “Sumter” moment to usher in martial law and full Constitutional suspension. I earnestly hope neither happen, but I’m putting my bets on the “Reichstag” option.

Libertarians have never been in power and thus are innocent of all the evils we currently find ourselves under siege from. All you have done is try to justify every bad policy made by “your side” by utilizing the same tired tag line the democrats employ … that it could of have been worse and that everyone should be grateful for being saved from some mythical problem that no one can prove would have actually occurred. You have no Ethical or Moral soapbox to stand on and should know better than try to look down on others from the highway of good intentions to hell you have been sliding down with every party line vote you have ever made. TIME_2_END_THE_PAUL_CAMPAIGN_IN_12
Posted on August 29, 2012 at 10:37pmCOUSCOUS. I we listen to Ron Paul and if certain the wars were truly illegal, it would follow that our Veterans who prosecuted them must be criminals because American soldiers are duty bound under the military’s Uniform Code of Military Justice to refuse to carry out any illegal order. Moreover, not only would the aiding of the prosecution of an “illegal war” itself be illegal, it would be a clear violation of the solemn oath taken by every Military Service member. That oath requires them to uphold the Constitution and to follow lawful orders. Engaging in illegal wars would violate both precepts. So, Paul implies that every Veteran, because of their Service in certain wars, has violated the law… and broken their word of honor.
The attempts by Ron Paul to build his political power base by criticizing the wars may be good politics if you’re isolationist pandering to the anti-war/anti-Military crowd. But doing so by erroneously calling certain wars illegal is an attempt to build that base at the expense of the honor of our troops. That is wrong. Our veterans are neither criminals nor dishonorable for having served…. having fought.
Let me be clear COUSCOUS. Paul is not just making a claim that certain wars were ill advised. Time after time Paul has demanded an end to the “illegal” wars. He believes the wars are illegal because the Congressional authorization for them did not actually say “declaration of war.” His argument is historically and factually w

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 11:42pmTime_2_Lie,
You ran out of space in your last post but I think you were about to write that Pauls argument is historically and factually (wrong?). I disagree. The Constitution is explicit in that Congress has the power of declaring war. Like so many other clauses in the Constitution, politicians interpret these clear limits in whatever way they want to. Paul follows the Constitution to the letter. I find that a credit and not a fault. I also disagree that Paul or any other anti-war Christian places blame or any other negative connotation on the troops. It is the big-government politicans with their deceptive agenda and misleading propaganda that are fully in the wrong and fully in Pauls sight picture. Even though it drives you crazy, it is a fact that Paul has a huge following among active and retired military. Your diparaging of Pauls military service and of the service of the veterans who support him is the real disgrace. The fact that you consider yourself the greatest soldier since Audie Murphy and all of Pauls military supporters as s***bird deserters shows whose honor is really lacking.

Only a progressive would want the government always doing something. He proposed countless bills repealing unlawful, unjust laws. Maybe it’s your fault for not calling your congressmen to cosponsor his bills.

I misread your post. The bill that was past was to audit the fed, not end the fed, which by the way was meaningless since Congress already has the authority the audit the fed.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 9:31pmDid Dr. Paul sponsor and pass a single significant piece of legislation? The theme of the RNC is leadership…while Dr. Paul is a loyal American I’m not entirely sure he could be classified as more than a Conservative activist. I’m okay with that and not being derogatory; just don’t think it qualifies him for POTUS any more than 165 days in the US Senate.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 9:44pmOf course no bill originated by Congressman Paul could pass because his bills would roll back government largess. We can’t have that.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 10:28pm@TheRealConservative, You just proved you’re an ignorant sheep. YOU’RE the one who brought up his lack of success passing legislation as a way to discredit him, yet you don’t even know what bills he sponsored. So obviously you‘re just using some other moron’s talking points. Perhaps you should spend a little more time actually researching the issues than just bitching about something you obviously no little about. Paulbot bashing isn’t going to help you make an informed decision at the voting booth. Now just go away. You’ve been SCHOOLED.

I’ve been trying to upload this picture if different formats. I tried .jpg,.png each time resme would appear in the avatar’s place. I could see my avatar in my profile settings. What finally worked was .gif picture format.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 10:45pmHi Resme,
Excellent! Sometimes it depends upon the original format of the photo/picture.
Well, we had rain on and off all day for about 50% of the day. It would rain and the protesters would try to hide and find cover. Then the Sun would come out and many got fed up and left. This happened over and over all day. Between all the Police and the weather, most protesters left and downtown Tampa was almost completely deserted of protesters. I did here that 3 Black Bloc people were arrested today (don’t know why yet} and one was arrested yesterday for not taking off his mask when asked by Police. (That’s illegal here as well as most places). Only 4 arrests that I’m aware of so far.
I did hear that the NBPP is going to protest tomorrow. Boy will they be surprised. No other protesters and only the NBPP for the Police to concentrate on.
Hope all is well with you!

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 11:06pm@therealconservative So you think creating new laws and regulations is a good thing? The federal government creates thousands of new laws and regulations every year, how does that increase our liberty and freedom from government? Paul was the best candidate, he lost so our government will continue to expand, socialized medicine, taxes through the roof DHS will continue picking up people illegally for making comments deemed inappropriate by the government, forced to have a psychiatriac evaluation and on and on.You have an illusion of freedom, that’s all you have.

Posted on August 30, 2012 at 2:09amRon Paul is like an American version of an Islamic jihadi – it’s his way or the highway. If he doesn‘t get his way he’s going to take his ball and run home. He is solid on fiscal and constitutional matters but a clueless doofus on foreign affairs – like a modern Neville Chamberlain. His associates like Lew Rockwell and Tom Woods are borderline anarchists.
This guy is best left where he is – in the real world, anything more and he will endanger us all.

The way he acts about Ron Paul has made me turn them off more than once. I myself would love to see a President Ron Paul but I have to live in reality. This country is not ready for the return to the constitution. There are now nearly as many living off the government(read the taxpayers) as there are actual taxpayers. We are more likely to go the way of Dear Leader Chairman Maobama and his merry band of ***** commies. Such a sad state of affairs.

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 10:47pmUnfortunately you are wrong.. Glenn OWNS the blaze.. Ron didn’t own the newsletter, it was printed on his behalf.. There are website that have the RP name on them as well and Ron has nothing to do with them..
Report Post »BTW.. He was running for president and was on the ballot in all 50 states.. He was running and his supporters were not giving up.. He was being “libertarian” and letting them do what they wanted. That is how libertarian thinking works.. Whether he accepted the nomination (if he got it) is another..
What I am satisfied with is the adoption of much of the RP platform into the GOP platform this year. The GOP tactics during the convention were deplorable.. I watched it on a private ustream feed from the floor.. Grass roots activism in the GOP is OVER!! unless the rules change.. Freedomworks is beside themselves.. I spoke with them on the phone yesterday.
