Have You Seen the ‘Most Incredible Knockout In UFC History?’

[Editor's note: the video in this story has been updated.]

UFCs Most Incredible Knockout Of All Time| Edson Barboza | Terry Etim

Terry Etim, from the UK, right, is kicked by Edson Barboza, from Brazil, during their lightweight mixed martial arts bout at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 142 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012. (AP Photo/Felipe Dana)

Last night’s Ultimate Fighting Championship 142 in Brazil gave us one of the most spectacular knockouts in a long time– possibly ever.

Edson Barboza KO’d Terry Etim with a vicious spinning wheel kick to the head. Barboza‘s heel caught Etim’s jaw, leaving Etim knocked out cold.

AP

The announcers erupted the instant it happened, yelling  it was “maybe the most spectacular knockout in UFC History” and “the first wheel-kick knockout we’ve ever seen.”

For the UFC fans in our audience, check out this incredibly athletic knockout blow.

Whatever happened to the UFC fighter that wanted to kick Barrys ass a few months back?
Secret service made a visit to him, thanks to thin skinned Barry.
    He’s probably in Gitmo now.
May not post my stupid comments on here much longer, the Barry brigade has my number.
    Nice knowing you all.

notice that after the knockout, the winner gives his little “shout out to God” by pointing toward the sky, then he pounds his own chest and carries on like most pro athletes these days. You see many pro NFL players do the same point toward the sky and then dance around. Why does the MSM not get worked up over their religiosity like they do with Tim Tebow?

I can tell you why. The MSM does not mind fake christianity. They can see through fake, and they are fine with it. When they found out that Tim Tebow actually goes on missionary trips, and that he and his mom are outspoken over abortion, and when they see that his religiosity is not a game, it is a real deal christianity centered on a real deal Christ, they can not stand it.

During the last presidential election, Obama stood in front of the micraphone, and claimed that he was a born again christian, and that Jesus was his lord and Savior. Looked like it was hard for him to say, and you could tell it was coached. Once again, the MSM never squeaked a single word over it, but they went full bore attack against Sarah Palin. The MSM despises christians, but they are find with the fake ones.

Anyone who has studied the Martial Arts will tell you that a wheel kick, is an “uncontrolled” kick.
Meaning that the force delivered is by nature very difficult to “pull” meaning it can kill.
High Kicks are also dangerous to deliver to a fresh opponant as they can backfire.
usually it’s the lighter-weights who can get away with it because of speed, with a relatively fresh opponant.
A heavy-weight who connects can easily kill.

UFC & MMA are modern day gladiator sports, I am surprised we have not seen many deaths as yet.
with only mouthguards and gloves, it is inevitable.
I don’t follow these “sports” as what you want to see is the Grandmasters fight, but they don’t, instead you get the egos and the impatients who have 1st degrees in several arts. not all but some.

The spectacle is athletic, hence the popularity, I wonder what the fighters actually make.

It’s usually the sponsors and promotors who make the serious $.

The saying in the biz is “they will kill each other for a trophy & a title”
it all depends on your perspective: living vicariously thru the event, exploiting it,
or participating for momentary fame, and years of injury-for what ?
on the other hand years of training & hopes wiped in an instant, permanent injury.
      It’s a huge risk.
Even a bench warmer in Football makes huge coin.
      Think about it…
In some aspects it puts these guys in even more respectful light, they have a LOT riding on the outcome for little relative gain.

Ben Henderson? You mean Dan Henderson.

Anyway, this is not the best ufc knockout. I’ve been watching this since ufc 2 in 95 (?) and have seen many knockouts similar, if not better than this. Thought the main event knockout with 1 second left was just as good.

Nope, he means Benson Henderson. Ben is always attributing wins to JC and God. When does Dan ever do that? While Aldo’s knockout was fantastic, what makes Barbosa’s that much better is the degree of difficulty it takes to land a wheel-kick as perfectly as he did. My personal faves are Anthony Pettis’ kick off the cage (coincidentally on Ben Henderson) in WEC and Rampage’s knockout slam on Ricardo Arona in Pride

If you watch it in slow motion you will see it was a kick to the temple and not the jaw. A kick to the temple is much worse than a kick to the jaw. Having said that… what does this do to increase productivity of businesses in the US? Not a damn thing. They can knock each other out all day long and it won’t help the price of gas or the progressives taking over the USA. Goerge Soros would be proud of this waste of time and man-power.

“what does this do to increase productivity of businesses in the US?”

Do you have any idea how much money the UFC brings in? Pay per view sales help each cable/sat provider. Clothing sales from the UFC and not to mention each fighter is getting paid to promote brands and some times there own brand as well. The hosting city brings in money on ticket sales and increased revenue from hotels to bars during and after the fight.

I am sure there is no uptick in sales during the superbowl either so we might as well cancel that because it obviously does not lower gas prices….

@the-monk: You sir are a bore! Watching two warriors duke it out has been a favorite pastime for Americans for over a century. It is entertainment, it is a display of unprecidented athleticism, and a way to spend a few hours not thinking about the problems of the world. You’re probably the same type of person who hates football too! I‘m guessing you have never taken the field or ring to match your physical abilities against another’s and probably pat yourself on the back for being above the “simple” mindset of we ham-and-eggers. Take 2 hours (if movies aren’t too below you either) and watch Cinderella Man. That’s why we love to watch this.

For the fighters, fighting is their job. If they’re good, they get some sponsors. They employ trainers and coaches, they buy training equipment. Hopefully made in the USA, but not always.
The fight looks like it was sponsored by Bud Light and Burger King. By paying to have their logos put on the mat, they hope to increase their business. Increasing their business means that they at least keep employees, perhaps need more.
The fight venue employes people. Ticket takers, security, concessions, the ring girls, janitorial crew, and so on.
It won’t tackle the price of gas, but for at least a night, this event helped a lot of people earn money.

I used to love that show when I was a kid. Claymation with blood and gore.

    Nice knockout, poor sportsmanship afterwards.

I didn’t see any poor sportsmanship. He was giving credit for his win to his god…

It looked like he was doing a Tebow routine thanking God, giving all the credit to God in fact, he pointed to himself and shook his head no.

I have no problem with him celebrating his victory, I just learned to have enough respect for your opponent to make sure they’re not messed up before celebrating.

And did I mention anything about him celebrating and giving credit to God? I don’t think I did, but it looks like it got the Holy Rollers all worked up again.

You certainly have a strange way of looking at things. You said he had poor sportsmanship, and a couple of us pointed out all he did was give credit to his god. Then you said he should have first checked if the guy was messed up? That was a knockout from a spinning back kick that landed clean on the guys chin. Of course he’s messed up. His goal was to mess him up. He had no doubt that his opponent messed up, so why would he check to make sure of it?

I didn’t see any bad sportsmanship. I haven’t seen anyone getting worked up. And I’m not a holy roller, I’m an atheist.
