Hear Harold Camping’s New Prediction: World Will Really, Really End on October 21

San Francisco Chronicle:

The end is still near, radio preacher Harold Camping said in a broadcast Monday night, but the world will be around until Oct. 21.

Camping, the 89-year-old East Bay preacher who gained international fame with his prediction that the rapture would come at 6 p.m. Saturday, said that he misinterpreted the Bible and that May 21 was not really the end of the world but the spiritual beginning of the physical end.

“Were not changing a date at all; we’re just learning that we have to be a little more spiritual about this,” he said in a rambling 90-minute radio broadcast that was part sermon, part press conference. “But on Oct. 21, the world will be destroyed. It won’t be five months of destruction. It will come at once.”

The New York Times:

“I can tell you very candidly that when May 21 came and went it was a very difficult time for me, a very difficult time,” said Mr. Camping, 89, a former civil engineer. “I was truly wondering what is going on. In my mind, I went back through all of the promises God has made, all of the proofs, all of the signs and everything was fitting perfectly, so what in the world happened? I really was praying and praying and praying, oh Lord, what happened?”

What he decided, apparently, was that May 21 had been “an invisible judgment day,” of the spiritual variety, rather than his original vision of earthquakes and other disasters leading to five months of hell on earth, culminating in a spectacular doomsday on Oct. 21 — something he had repeatedly guaranteed. On Monday, however, Mr. Camping seemed satisfied with his new interpretation, which apparently spared humankind its months of torture for a single day of destruction.

I will never fault someone’s belief and dedication but one has to root oneself in reality. You only need to look to the past to see the ones that predicted armageden failed in their “cifering”. The Lord will come but in his time and only he knows when that will be. So, the thing to do is to live a good life so as to be ready when it does happen. Just stop trying to predict it!

Read his prediction, he used the 7 day‘s of God’s pronouncement to Noah, and then counted seven thousand years from that date (of the Great Flood). Problem is the promise of destruction in 7 days was Just for the flood and had nothing to do with the timing of the final judgment. I read it before the event and saw his flawed logic. There are many people who’s logic is flawed. We must think for ourselves. It’s that simple.

“You lump all Christians in with this nutjob? Please. This guy is as lost as you are…”

The difference between Camping, and your average Christian, is negligible. He’s on the same page, as most Christians, with 99% of the Bible’s interpretation. He just thinks that he’s deciphered a precise End Time date. How does that 1% difference make him “lost” compared to ‘non-specific End Time’ believers?

      @ Joshua

I see that you don’t have any religious beliefs at all. I have had an out of body experience, where I could “see” my body through the “eyes” of my soul. Since this actually happened to me, I don’t see how you could ever explain to me that “one is born, one lives, and one dies” and there isn’t anything after that. My personal experience proved to me that there is “something” after the body dies.

Since I was revived, I never made it to the “Bible Heaven”, but I can not deny that there something that we commonly call a soul. Actually, I “died” twice in my life. Both times there was a voice that said: not now.

You don’t have to believe me, because I know the truth, and it doesn’t matter whether you believe me or not.

My mother had an out of body experience. She really believed it was real. But she must have imagined it according to the Dr.s because the hospital had special markings on top of tall equipment housings in the room she was in that nobody would have missed and she didn’t see them. The mind is an amazing thing I guess and can manufacture all kinds of false visions.

So as your body was being starved of oxygen and your brain started to shut down and entered an uncontrolable erratic state you believe you looked down on your body through an out of body experience.Through your conditioning as a Christian and when you returned to the land of the living, you put two and two together and came up with five.

I‘m wondering what Bible he’s using, even putting aside that only God the Father knows the time. For example, the Jews have to rebuild the temple and a spring will flow from it to cleanse the Dead Sea, turning it into a body of fresh water, before the Second Coming. I‘m pretty sure that hasn’t happened yet, in addition to many other biblical signs.

Rev 1:7 says that every eye will see Him coming in a cloud or with the clouds.

Camping is only trying to excuse his sin of false prophecy. He’d better repent. Camping now says in the interview that Jesus did come. One more telling tale of the end being near as Jesus Himself said in Mt24

So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the desert,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

False prophets do not repent. They are a menace.

It may be that Harold Camping is fearful of dying and wants to be raptured to avoid the pain of death. That is never a justifiable excuse to deny God’s clearly stated Word. Camping‘s own departure from earth may be much worse now than it would have been had he accepted God’s Word as it is written. We shall see.

Does this man even bother to PICK UP A BIBLE? My goodness the simplest things he is ignoring. Such as the last week of years in Daniel. The 1260 days mentioned in Revelation. And the 5 months of being stung by beasts of Abaddon the destroyer. Any of these would tell you that his math is screwy, and I am only scratching the surface.
