‘Heart-Broken’ Black Pastors Plea for Obama to Meet With Them & Change His Mind on Gay Marriage

As The Blaze has reported, President Barack Obama has been doing damage control among African American pastors since his official endorsement of same-sex marriage last month. But his efforts to put faith leaders at ease apparently haven’t resonated with everyone, as a group of influential black pastors are appealing to Attorney General Eric Holder to setup a meeting for them with the president. The groups maintains that Obama’s endorsement has “broken their hearts.”

“President Obama is the fulfillment of our dreams for our sons — and he has broken our hearts by using his power and position to endorse as a civil right something that is simply wrong,” wrote the Rev. William Owens, the founder and president of the Coalition of African American Pastors (CAAP). ”I would pray you have enough residual respect for this group of clergy, to agree to meet with us and other national leaders to discuss our concerns over your and President Obama’s endorsement of gay marriage as a civil right.”
In the letter, Owens also attempted to get Holder and Obama to focus upon issues that transcend politics, as he wrote, ”Some things are bigger than the next election.” This statement, in itself, seems to be pointing at the view that homosexuality is not something to be heralded.

Acknowledging that Obama has had a change of heart, Owens also appealed to the president for another flip back to his anti-gay marriage view, writing, ”If President Obama changed his mind, let him consider changing it again.”
This letter, which was delivered on Thursday, didn’t come from a random group of powerless leaders in the faith community. Quite the opposite, many of these black pastors and preachers played prominent roles in the Civil Rights movement. According to The Christian Post, some even marched with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
On May 17, many of these same leaders came together for a press conference against the president’s pro-gay marriage announcement. Here’s a video in which CAAP accuses Obama of “hijacking civil rights.” Some of the comments made at the press conference can also be viewed:
While Obama has fully embraced his stance on homosexuality – one that he is claiming is new, but that he has reportedly touted in past election cycles — CAAP is working diligently against his position on the matter. The group has already encouraged more than 1,000 African American clergy to sign an anti-gay-marriage pledge.

Posted on June 4, 2012 at 11:21pm2 Questions for these Pastors (and all Evangelicals/Protestants) According to your doctrines all sin is the same, contrary to 1 John 5:16 there is no such thing as sin unto death and sin not unto death. So why was it perfectly acceptable for Obama to support killing Gods children in the womb but not okay for Obama to support Gay marriage? None of these Pastors were brokenhearted because Obama is in favor of killing Gods children in the womb but they are brokenhearted that he supports Gay marriage, why? They all refused to say that Obama was not a “Christian” for supporting the killing of Gods children in the womb yet now they are brokenhearted because Obama supports Gay marriage. Why? If Obama is a “Christian” and believes in his heart and confesses with his mouth he is “saved” so why are these Pastors burdening a saved mans conscience? I am very curious what the answers to these questions are or if any of this matters at all, if anything we do or say matters once someone is “saved” In other words who are these Pastors or anyone else to question a “saved” Christian, let him who is sinless cast the first stone. Why are these Pastors now brokenhearted and why are they questioning another “Christian” aren’t all “Christians” truly saved? Very confusing to me and I am sure to those in those churches. God Bless

There’s not enough room in this response box to fully list the differences !!!.. Starting with.. Why do you think the white man enslaved the black man instead of the other way around??.. I think it’s a good question..& I’m not trying to be racist in any form or fashion.. The black man had been on the earth just as long as the white man.. they had just as much time to create a civilized society as the white man did.. and yet they were still living in grass huts with no education when they were taken by the whites into slavery !!.. Why is this ??.. Still today, the majority of African people go barefooted, still live in grass huts & live in tribes with witch doctors. They have silly rituals that’ll never lead them into a productive society & 4 out of every 100 are eaten by Lions every year !!.So tell me.. who is the smarter individual.. the black or the white??.. Would the majority of the blacks who live in America today still be in Africa living in grass huts & running from Lions if the whites hadn’t enslaved them over 400 years ago??.. Maybe.. what do you say ?? & honestly, just admit it.. White Men are Smarter with a higher IQ.. That’s the reason whites enslaved blacks instead of the other way around !!! Again, I’m not trying to be racist, I’m just trying to understand !!

The only reason that most blacks support obama is because he is mulatto – he has not changed one iota since 2008; he has ALWAYS supported gay marriage, been pro-abortion, opposed Christianity and he has spent his entire adult life working tirelessly to destroy America – he will NEVER change.
Blacks can display all of the ridiculous fake-outrage they want, but until they decided to vote based on positions and personal beliefs rather than a candidate’s race, and until they decide to put country before party, they will continue to be part of the problem, rather than part of the solution.

Report Post »Alessandre
Posted on June 7, 2012 at 1:16am@Snooopie1e: both are abominable. Margaret Sanger & her followers sought to make black ministers her portal into black communities. it worked. many black ministers turn a blind eye to abortion. I‘ve been told it’s better than babies having babies they don’t know how to care for & can’t afford. but gay marriage can‘t be ignored because it’s public & no one laid the ground work as Sanger & her lot did. besides, it‘s can’t be ignored as the Mesopotamian rite of sacrificing children to Molech. perhaps we ought to thank God for the executive golfer’s gay marriage announcement. it’s turning people away from him. I view it as God’s finger flicking here & there. then again, it’s evidence that evil must destroy itself.
pray for the man, pray for the ministers & rejoice that more people are discovering problems with the golfer-in-chief. accept God’s assistance any way He offers it & be prepared to teach. we have a big job ahead: we must teach many ignorant people that God is real & we must follow all of His laws, not just the ones that make us go “ewww.” you are right but perhaps now it’s time to be grateful for small mercies.
@Nemo13 & 1Shiner: he’s gay. being on the down low is standard for gay black men who want public lives. try a search for “hill buzz.” they’ve got lots of info & are in Chicago; know the neighbourhoods & the bars, etc. what I wonder is if he’s ill. the man looks it & behaves like a patient on a lot of meds. pray for him.

Posted on June 9, 2012 at 11:28am@ALLESANDRE – I agree to a point. God will not be mocked and scripture is very clear hat God despises the lukewarm and will “spit them out of His mouth” Rev 3:16 We have to let our yes mean yes and our no mean no. There is no gray area when it comes to sin. The reason that many “Christians” refuse to objectively say what is sin and what is not sin is because they believe that all sin is the same and that once they believe in their heart and confess with their mouth they are no longer under the law. In effect what they have done is rendered sin irrelevant. If all who believe and confess are saved identifying sin becomes irrelevant. This is what Satan wants, he wants us to be blind to sin so that we keep on sinning. Gal 3:16-23 is very clear, it’s only when we obey the law that we are not under the law. The acts of the spirit have no law and James 2:24 is very clear we are not save by faith alone. Each of us will be judged according to our deeds. Salvation is by grace through faith working out in love. God promises us (1 Cor 10:13) that no temptation has seized us that is not common to man and God will never allow us to be tempted beyond our means to resist and when we are tempted He will always provide a way out . To those who say we CANNOT obey Gods commands this is a false teaching of man that is leading people to turn from Gods grace in disobedience. Repent and Obey Gods Commands and defeat sin and death. God Bless

would you please explain to all of us how believing that marriage can only be between a man & a woman is bigoted? how is it bigoted to continue being human as we have been from the beginning of recorded history?
the Cambridge Dictionary defines bigot: “a person who has strong, unreasonable beliefs and who thinks that anyone who does not have the same beliefs is wrong.”
how are we unreasonable? please, tell us? (I realize there was once polygamy but that didn’t work out which we learned, thanks to Judeo-Christianity: it harmed women & children. of course men were never members of the harem or “brother-wives/husbands.” only women were married to men.) how is it unreasonable when the purpose of marriage is begetting children & continuing families & cementing communities & expanding them & expanding the patrimony? the purpose of marriage was never “love” or “romance” but creating families & from families, society. so, since same-sex couples cannot naturally beget children &, since children are best raised in an intact family w/ their biological mothers & fathers, what is bigoted about opposing same-sex marriage (which can‘t even be marriage because they can’t have children)? please enlighten us?

This is the crowd that forms their opinions by listening to others opinions instead of putting in the time and effort of their own to learn, study, research, and understand this is not a game. That is of course a generalization of the negative side. There are many of this demographic who are waking up to the realities and digging deeper than they have been told. I applaud those.
The timing of VP Bribin was important. He made a strong stance to test the waters and see what kind of support there would be. It showed favorable and O’bummer followed suit. What couldn’t be tested for is the backlash and therein lies the risk. The game has yet to be played out. We’ll see where it goes.

Posted on June 4, 2012 at 1:08pmNo worries, Pastors, 0bama will evolve back to being against it to unbreak your heart and gain your votes. Of course, when Holder meets with you all he will assure you that 0 is really against gay marriage but, you know, he needs the gay vote. You surely know, Pastors, that he wouldn’t lie to you all to secure you and your congregants votes. No, no, 0 would never do that.

Nobody else thinks he has a heart why should he. If you now notice the is a flag behind him giving speeches, he was told not to worry it’s just a re-election prop His likes and dislikes have not changed, it’s the chamaeleon in him, what ever color you like, that’s what you will see till after the election. He has never liked authority except his own, Military and Police Officers are on top of his list of disdain, Religion is not far behind.
Report Post »Let me see if a Gay or Lesbian couple want to call it a marriage because there are benefits to such a title. I guess an Atheist could call himself a Christian and enter into the kingdom of God. They don’t believe in the Bible, but they want to tell you what you should do according to his word. Every criminal on trail for breaking the law has now become a lawyer using the Law to avoid any penalty prescribed by the law. Let justice prevail. God Bless America

Posted on June 4, 2012 at 1:36pmKICKINBACK, Honestly, I seriously doubt that he will apologize for this one. We all knew that was the way he felt all along and for good reason to him considering what little we know of his history. I can hear him saying that he is sorry that those pastors feel that way.
