Posted on September 24, 2010 at 12:25pmGreat story. Here in Texas, we can place stickers on our license that indicates “donor.” They are available when we renew our drivers license.

Posted on September 24, 2010 at 6:45amMy dear son passed away at the age of 22 from cystic fibrosis. Even though his body had been ravaged by the disease, I was approached immediately after his death to consider allowing the donation of his usable organs. My son and I never really discussed this possibility, but being the person he was, I knew he would want to do this. Several months after his passing I received a letter from the organization thanking our family for his gift. His corneas have given eyesight back to a young father in his 30′s, and his heart valves were gifted to another. I cried tears of joy. To know that a small part of him lives on and is helping another human being is of immense comfort to this mother’s heart.

Posted on September 24, 2010 at 2:42amThis story touches my heart in two ways. My great niece recently passed away due to what is known as a AVM. Basically it was a birth defect that was undetected until her massive stroke. She under-went two operations but the DRs were unable to repair the damage. She was kept alive by life-support machines. She had mentioned at one point before the stroke occured that she wished to be an organ donor. The medical team were in place to do the procedure, her family were by her side, the machines were turned off. Some-how she was able to breathe on her own so they were not able to harvest the organs. She only lasted a short time . Not all of the organs were able to be saved but they were able to take her eyes, tissue, and bone marrow I totally under-stand the mother needing to hear her daughters heartbeat. God bless the beautiful young ladies family as well as the woman who recieved the heart. I was fortunate to recieve a kidney from a live donor. A wonderful 33yr. old woman graciuosly offered. Were these miracles? Yes.Any gift of life is a miracle to those of us who are blessed to have an opportunity to live a healthy life again. And though difficult I believe this young girls family and my nieces family at least can have some comfort in knowing a part of their loved one lives on. When I think of my donor who so bravely made this sacrifice for me It gives me hope and overwhelms me with faith in the human race I am more aware of how precious life is. Yes I needed practically a box of tissue. It was a very sad but beautiful story. Both of these lovely young girls were taken to soon. They say life goes on and that is very true, but nothing will ever fill that void these parents have. I ache inside for anyone who must make these decisions. How very brave they are and I take my hat off to them. Thank-you to all the donors and their families. To me they are true heros.

Posted on September 23, 2010 at 7:44pmThis touching story reminded me of my father. He received a heart transplant when he was 55 years old and even though we never knew who the heart was from we were eternally grateful. He lived another 14 years and passed at the age of 69 of cancer but he heart was still strong. Truly a miracle.

Posted on September 23, 2010 at 7:39pmI watched this on GMA this morning… When they said it was going to be a “tear-jerker“ and to ”grab your Kleenex” I ignored them… Minutes later I was SO thankful for the ||PAUSE|| button followed by a sobFest. When I thought I was done crying, I could still the faces of the parents as they listened again to their daughter’s heart, hugging the woman who held held that healthy beating heart and feeling it against their own I cried AGAIN!. I am crying as I type this… Being the single mom of a 14 y/o young lady I’m an Organ Donor, Bone Marrow Donor – O neg. Blood Donor – If you NEED IT, TAKE IT, while I‘m here and when I’m gone… However I can’t even IMAGINE having to make that decision if it were my daughter. In my heart of hearts, I would want her to give someone else a chance to live – I would also want to meet the recipient, young or old, like these parents, just for the opportunity to “feel” her “life” one more time. kc

Posted on September 23, 2010 at 6:06pmI think with all the negative stories about murders and other terrible things we hear regularly on the news, we need to hear stories like these to give us hope. As for whether it is medical “science” or a miracle, you know, the doctors can have a perfect donor match and still have everything go wrong. Life does not give us guarantees, so when you have something like this work out, it is a miracle. Just look at the odds. Blessings to both the families.

Posted on September 23, 2010 at 5:22pmYou do not comprehend what a miracle is. It is not just a gift or event caused by God. It is a triumph of the human spirit. In this case charity. I feel sad for you.

Posted on September 24, 2010 at 6:50amSorry, but it is more than just medical science, pure and simple. It is a miracle because through the grace of God man has been given the knowledge and skill to discover how to perform these types of medical procedures.
I pray God softens your heart and gives wisdom to your soul.

Posted on September 25, 2010 at 2:19pmScience cannot even explain the very molecules of a human body staying together. Tightly packed together to make a person, why don’t they fall apart? Put a flashlight up against your skin and watch your veins. See an ultrasound. Listen to your own heartbeat. Miracle… no?
