Heartbreaking Video: Loyal Dog Refuses to Leave Owner’s Grave, Even for Food

An elderly Chinese man from the village of Panjiatun was unmarried and kept little company other than a yellow canine companion. Leo Pan, 68, died earlier this month and his dog soon disappeared. Villagers found the loyal dog at his owner‘s grave and have been unable to lure him to away from his owner’s side, even for food, for over seven days. SKY News on the loyal friend:
The Digital Journal reports that villagers have tried to bring the dog back to the village and give it some food, but have only been able to shy him away for a short period before the dog quickly returns to his owner’s side.
SKY also notes that the story is similar to that of Edinburgh’s Greyfriars Bobby, a 19th century Skye terrier who allegedly spent 14 years at his master’s grave, who died when the dog was two.
Over the summer, The Blaze reported on Hawkeye, companion of fallen Navy SEAL Jon T. Tumilson. Thousands of readers were moved by the image of the loyal dog standing guard over his owner‘s casket during the hero’s funeral. The story went viral, and Hawkeye’s family was in contact with the University of Iowa Athletic Department to use his story as a means to honor “Jon and all citizens lost while serving others” during the football season.
At some point when your family discusses what you are thankful for this weekend, don’t forget about your furry and loyal friends. If you ask me, nothing says gratitude like leftover turkey.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 1:05pmGeez, I almost lost it for a minute there. I’m at work on lunch and all I want to do is go home and hug my dog. I have a feeling she would be like this. That dog and I have been through the loss of my roommate/best friend together, and she is the only girl I’ve been able to truly count on in recent years (sorry, ladies, just how things have been lately). I love my dog and I literally pray and thank God for her all the time. She is the greatest joy in my life.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 4:58pmThat is a nice story and I felt the same.
Our dog we had since 2004 had to be put down due to cancer just a month ago. I miss her. She and the 2 cats were the only ones who stuck by me when I became gravely ill. I had my husband leave, my friends desert me and family unable to cope. God created the animals to be our companion to bring us comfort. that is why they use animal therapy in hospice/hospital settings. That unconditional love of a good spirited dog is priceless and aids in comfort if not recovery!
Dang I want a puppy now…. lol

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 5:35pmUnconditional Love. Yep! brought tears to my eyes thinking of the 2 dogs in my life I’ve lost.
Then I think about that Vick guy who trained dogs to fight, using little dogs to train them with. We hear all the sick stories about how cruel some can be to poor little animals. Some of these stories are beyond the pale for cruelness toward poor defenseless animals. The same type people are cruel to people as well, and to children. All this just breaks my heart.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 8:01pmThis story reminds me of the movie Hachi. It’s based on a true story about a dog that waits at a train station for his owner even after the owner dies. It’s a tear jerker but well worth it. I love my dog so much. She can always put a smile on my face.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 11:47pmI understand your comments. 26 yrs ago when my Father passed away his little dog a tiny white poodle named Fluffy. Laid in his chair on top of his jacket. She refused food and water. I took her to the Vet 6 times for fluids. (weekly) Same thing every time I took her home. Finally my vet at the time said that she had no will to live without my dad. I tried again a few more times. She had such a blank look in her little eyes and showed no kind of emotions other when I would pick up from yhe jacket and the chair. She cried and howled. It was the sadest thing. My dad died in that chair, and so did Fluffy. It was like loosing daddy all over again. To this day I cry when I think about it. Hug you dog or cat or whatever pet that you have, they love and depend on you. Their unconditional love is something most humans are not capable of.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 12:58pmAw, this is so cute it made me cry. This is why I like animals more than people. Humans are so shocked to see any kind of emotion regarding love and honor (whether by a person or an animal… humans are a dumb animal aren’t they.) – it has to be shown worldwide. I like this dog more than all the humans in the world combined… why? Because he reminds me of me.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 4:33pmthing is, humans can be exactly like this wonderful little dog. But like dogs who have gotten beaten so many times that they limp, humans get self-protective and the shields go up. My own little mixed breed even looks like the Chinese dog – and my doggie makes me laugh, a lot, and that also is a rare thing with people – at least for me.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 12:54pmWhoever said animals don’t have feelings have never owned a dog. They experience the loss of companionship, much like humans.I witnessed it when my uncle passed on and left his terrier behind. The dog never was the same and would wander aimlessly around the house and yard, looking and listening for my uncle we assumed. My aunt found him dead at the foot of the bed 4 months later for no apparent reason at 7 yrs old.
I hope the little dog in this story gets over his grief. It took me months to get over putting my 14 yr.old Cocker to sleep this last April.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 6:28pmA couple things I really like about dogs:
“With a dog, you give them room you can spare, food you can spare and time you can spare.
In return, they give you everything.”
“A dog wants very little, and they are overjoyed to get it. A cat doesn’t know what it wants. It just knows it wants more.”

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 9:37pmMRMAGOO: Yes, I do believe they have feelings. We have a Cockerspaniel who has chosen my husband as her favorite. She never leaves his side, even when he goes to the restroom, yep, she’s right there with him. When he goes out of town, the sadness she goes through is unreal. She literally becomes depressed. She lays where he alreadys sits and she doesn’t move and when you talk to her she hardly lifts her head up. Her eyes and face hang down, just like you would see a very, very sad person. When he returns, she is happy as ever. Dogs are incredibly loyal animals.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 6:10pmGrave sites are tricky in China. There are a lot of treasured old traditions regarding respect for grave sites and lost family members. The Communists at one point tried to destroy these traditions by requiring all bodies to be cremated and banning visits to graves. While these laws have been relaxed, the CCP is still in charge. Thus it‘s understandable that some people don’t want to be buried in “official” or “official-looking” cemeteries.

Daddy’s boy likes to steal my shoes and chew them up. Actually, he only takes ONE from a pair and chews it up. Key word there is TRY. Lol!

They made a movie based on Hachiko’s story. I think it was Richard Gere as the owner that dies. He told Hachiko to wait for him and he spent the rest of his life waiting there. Passers by would feed him.

It‘s our routine we walk and they do there business where I don’t have to worry about picking anything up. They wait for me everyday the only time we don‘t go is when it’s raining and I have to show them the rain to get them to quit barking at me. When I go to the other side I will ask if dog’s are here as well if not I want go where they are. They absolutely give me there unconditional love no matter what. Which I have trouble explaining to my human kids some times when they are fighting or arguing about something to me is trivial.
Trust me they will get their share of the thanks giving food from the Grand kids.
