It‘s a photo that’s starting to make the rounds. And once you see it, you likely won’t forget it.
The photo shows a male pit bull refusing to leave the side of his dead companion, a female pit bull that appears to have been hit by a car.
The picture was taken in Phoenix, AZ. Local station KSAZ-TV has more information, including that the male dog refused to leave his friend’s side for over 14 hours:
The female pit bull was hit sometime Friday night, and lay dead on the side of a Phoenix road. The male pit bull wouldn’t leave her, so a nearby business set out food and water.
This is the heartbreaking picture that was shared over 200 times on Facebook over the weekend.
He stayed with there nuzzling her and lying nearby until the city came to remove her Saturday morning. It was 14 and half hours.
Local animal control believes the surviving dog has an owner because of its blue harness. But no one has come forward as of yet to claim him.
“He is doing well,” Rodrigo Silva, a local animal control official, said. “He’s a little withdrawn and he appears to be very sad.”
The shelter where the dog was taken is monitoring him for any behavioral issues and then will decide whether to put him up for adoption.
Back in April, a similar picture surfaced of a Lab refusing to leave its fallen partner’s side in Los Angeles.

Posted on May 26, 2012 at 5:57pmPitbulls are just a status symbol for druggies and gangbagers. That being Phoenix, I’m sure it belonged to some Mexicans gangbangers.

Also, who the heck hits a dog and doesn’t stop?

I HATE/LOATHE/DESPISE having to deal with putting down a pet.
Got your tissues and dark corner to cry in? How long was he part of your family? And how IS your family coping? Will you get another dog, or do you have one already?

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 4:28pmWith that harness it has to have been a lost dog that had an owner at one time. Lets hope they come forward to either retrieve the dog or tell why they let it go. If it come down to could not afford them so be it, someone will find him a home.

One has to wonder is this a demonstrations of evolution in animals and devolution in some humans.
Have some humans turned into animals, while dogs are demonstrating human’s sadness and concern for their fellow species?

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 4:53pmI AGREE! Sadly compassion for our fellow man is being replaced by ENVY and HATRED! Those who speak out against this are considered politically incorrect…
P.S. Just watch Avatar the movie. Humans Beings in movies now are being portrayed as BAD and children are slowly being spoon-fed this hatred and mistrust of their own species!!!

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 10:17amI don’t know about other states, but in Massachusetts, it is the law that if you hit a dog with your car, you are supposed to stop and try to find the owner. This goes back to the old farming days, when dogs were usually working animals.
Report Post »Unfortunately, most people ignore this.

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 11:49amI personally think if we are putting that much humanity into dogs, that if you hit one you need to stop and find the owner, I will sign off on that when we stop killing babies out of social status and/or economic concerns. Till then? Sorry that the dog got hit, but a good question is, why is the dog in the road?

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 12:24pmJethro, I’m not for abortion and I love dogs too. Why do you feel the need to be such an a-hole? It’s nice to see the devotion this poor boy has for his companion, which is more than I can say for most people. And given he has a harness on they may have slipped the yard. All the way around it’s sad. Have some compassion please.

I have to agree. It’s an animal.
I love dogs. I love my dog. If I was careless enough to let it get into the street, I would not hold a driver responsible for hitting my dog. That’s moronic. Why does the driver, with a legitimate reason to be on the road, owe the irresponsible dog-owner anything?
If anything, the driver might hunt down the owner to cover any damage done to the car.
Report Post »johnjamison
Posted on May 24, 2012 at 3:54pmJaycen,
Report Post »Using your logic I guess the driver should find the parents of a child they hit and ask them to pay for the damages as well. After all children don’t belong in the road and can be irrational as well.
Change your name to D*CK it better describe s your personality.

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 10:05amI hope the owner of the surviving dog is located. Recently my husband stopped by his friend’s golf driving range, and they rescued two black labs from traffic. Calls to the nearby vet located the owner who had been frantic since discovering the pooches had escaped their invisible fencing. We have always loved dogs, for they are true blue friends.

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 11:37amI have been fighting cancer for nearly a year, and I have my new buddy – an American PBT named Roxie. I got her last November, and when my Sons brought her in (she was rescued from the pound), she wagged over to me and layed down next to me. She rarely leaves that spot.
I have seen some smart animals in my time, but none of them come close to how this dog is. She understands every word I say and she is the most gentle dog I have ever seen. She never barks and she has been a gift from God to me. When I walk her, which is very hard for me to do, as my disease has weakened me greatly, she slowly takes each step and stops and turns around to make sure I am ok, and she takes the next one as we come down our porch steps. No training was needed, as she just did that on her own. As we walk, she turns around and sits down to allow me to catch up, or catch my breath.
I am truly a blessed man.

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in the world
is more grateful for kindness than my loving heart.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I would lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world¹s sweetest music,
as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail
when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now
a domestic animal and no longer used to bitter elements.
I ask no greater glory than the privilege of
sitting at your feet beside the hearth.
Though you had no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water for, although I would not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food that I may stay well to romp and play and do your biding, walk by your side and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should yours be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to take my health or sight, do not turn me away from you.
Rather, hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate was ever safe in your hands.

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 1:49pmDogs can’t reason like humans can, so they “show” everything. Human beings spend much of their time covering up their emotions for societal reasons.
That might be “sad”, I suppose, but it doesn’t make animals “more human” than human beings. Your ability to comprehend someone else’s motivations notwithstanding.

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 9:45amThat’s so sad! :-( I hope that little guy finds a really good, new home. He sure seems to deserve one (more than many people!). In fact, that dog is showing more compassion and feeling than some people these days. :-(
And for those who “hate” or “diss” cats–please, enough. If you‘ve never had a cat show you affection then likely you’ve never shown affection TO or had affection FOR one.
ALL are God’s creatures.
And ‘sides, Rush Limbaugh (the loveable fur ball) has three huge dogs, but he still loves his “Punkin’!” (a cat he had long before the dogs. . .). Once in awhile he talks about her and I can tell he’s quite fond of his little feline friend. ;-) (And far as I can tell, he’s um. . Conservative.. lol!)

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 11:15amThank you! Cats are often quite affectionate. Mine follow me from room to room and shove my arm or hand to be petted. Cats sleep about 18 hours a day, so do fine left home alone all day. I don’t like to leave a dog alone that long – they need more attention. Also, cats don’t bark.

Posted on May 24, 2012 at 9:30amMost Liberal males have cats…. Most Conservative men have dogs. Some Liberal males who DO have dogs might resort to eating them, so it’s the duty of Conservative men to liberate all dogs from Liberal males because they truly are a “man’s” best friend.
