(The Blaze/AP) – Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson was arrested on a charge of resisting arrest after an early Saturday morning incident where police say it took three officers to subdue him.
And now you can see part of the altercation on video.
Houston Police Department spokesman Kese Smith said Peterson was at a downtown nightclub early Saturday morning when an off-duty Houston police officer working security asked Peterson and a group of people he was with to leave because it was closed. The man, who Kese said identified himself as a police officer, left to tell other patrons to leave the club before returning to Peterson’s group to again tell them to leave.
Kese said Peterson turned around and told the officer that he heard him the first time and pushed him in the shoulder, causing him to stumble. The officer told Peterson he was under arrest and to put his hands behind his back. Peterson began yelling, pulled away and “assumed an aggressive stance” so another off-duty officer came to help. Peterson continued to struggle with them both.
The 27-year-old player was finally handcuffed with the help of a third off-duty officer. Peterson complained of shortness of breath after he was taken to a Houston jail and was examined by Houston Fire Department personnel, who said that he was OK.
Peterson, who is from Palestine, Texas, was released from jail Saturday on a $1,000 bond. The charge is a misdemeanor.
Team spokesman Bob Hagan said Saturday the Vikings “are aware of the situation and are gathering more information.”
Daniel Maher, general manager of the bar, told TMZ that Peterson usually doesn’t drink much but on this particular night he was very drunk and “unreasonable” or as TMZ put it, “highly intoxicated.”
Maher also said Peterson got into a fighting stance and looked “like he meant bushiness.”
“He looked really scary and I thought he was gonna attack the cops,” he added.
The NFL star reportedly apologized to cops and informed them he usually doesn’t drink after they had him restrained. He was later booked into jail and charged with resisting arrest.
However, now that he has had some time to sleep on it — including one night in jail — Peterson is hinting that there may be more to the story by quoting… Winston Churchill?
Multiple news outlets reported that Peterson on Sunday tweeted:
TMZ has also released a video of Peterson’s arrest, though it doesn’t provide a clear picture of exactly what happened that night. Nonetheless, it can be seen below.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Posted on July 9, 2012 at 10:47pmGood grief all this yip yap about why he was arrested for resisting arrest. It’s the law that if the bar has to close you all have to leave. Some people think they are having a good time & don’t want to leave. If they are asked politely to leave & police have to come back & ask them again, then they refuse the police should arrest them. The business could get in big trouble for having people in the bar when they are supposed to be closed.

Posted on July 9, 2012 at 10:36pmWhile I am an Oklahoma SOONERS fan. Lets not forget that during the NFL lockout, Mr. Peterson who makes north of $6 milllion a year said that he was a slave. Dumber than a box of rocks. He is an example of why God created football so people like him could make a very very good living.

Posted on July 9, 2012 at 9:13pmDon’t you have to be doing something wrong to be arrested? How can you be arrested for resisting arrest? I can see if he was arrested for i.e. fighting and then charged with resisting arrest. Can anyone explain this or is this an example of poor journalism?

Posted on July 9, 2012 at 8:48pmI have no love for overpaid athletes but I have even more disdain for cops. I‘m sure they didn’t want a piece of Peterson. He could’ve ran them all over if he wanted to. He’s usually a good guy.
BTW, try using punctuation and capitalization next time. Sheesh.

Their lack of actual law enforcement might fit your taste for lawlessness better than a land of laws such as the United States. Let me know if you need help packing.

Posted on July 9, 2012 at 5:10pmAnother sports thug. How did these guys ever get through college? Man its time some one put these goofs on a lease and only let out for practice and the game. Hey team owner of any sports franchise how about classes for these goofs, , their not special beyond the team, any felony arrests and you can sit out the rest of the year with no pay, and learn while in public behave your self or get out of professional sports and go on welfare, which is where most of them would be if they weren’t athletes.

Posted on July 9, 2012 at 7:24pmMy guess, Hayes, is that more schools than just Boise State University (which is quite famous for it) attract football players with a promise of simply allowing them to major in eligibility.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/2008-11-18-majors-cover_N.htm
However, I don’t know if this is the case with Mr. Peterson, just that it‘s the case with a lot of schools that want a better football team and can’t get one legitimately. I know very little about Mr. Peterson other than that he’s a very good football player and high up on my fantasy picks each year, though I rarely get him. And that he was arrested here by a couple of off-duty cops moonlighting as rent-a-cops at a bar, which seems somewhat fishy. We’ll just have to wait for the fully story to emerge.

Posted on July 9, 2012 at 4:19pmI think off-duty police should be the same as a civilian. If some random bouncer has an attitude i’ll react to him differently than a police officer with an attitude. The bouncer is usually just some JO that lifts weights. A police officer is completely different. So if you’re going to be off duty and work security you should be treated as a civilian OR wear a tshirt that identifies you as an off duty policeman.

Posted on July 9, 2012 at 2:51pmAlways blows my mind how some otherwise genuinely good guys can – at the drop of a hat – allow themselves to be overcome with such rage; and tragically, over simple things normal, civil parents teach their kids never to do, such as not respecting authority.
I’ve been heavily intoxicated countless times in my life, yet never displayed such outlandish and abhorrent behavior.
