Posted on September 17, 2010 at 10:30pm14K feet is slightly above the maximum ceiling for most civilian helicopters… heavy payload + high altitude = loss of lift, or even engine power altogether. Wouldn’t be the first time a pilot used bad judgment.
Whatever the cause, I hope the pilot recovers quickly and gets back to doing what he loves.

Posted on September 17, 2010 at 6:02pmBeing a helicopter pilot myself, my concern is not for a driverless car. My concern is why did this happen ie. mechanical failure or human error. All you others have to much time on your hands.

Posted on September 17, 2010 at 5:19pmMaybe Obama should ban all helicopter flights for 6 month. Oh and after the big California gas explosion ban natural gas. It’s a danger.

Posted on September 17, 2010 at 4:10pmI lived in the Springs for 5 years, not far from Pikes Peak. I wonder if it crashed in the Garden of the Gods.

Posted on September 17, 2010 at 2:43pmCome on people..the story is the driverless Audi. BMW already has an experimental car that can LEARN and DRIVE itself around race tracks at high speeds and avoid obstacles. Now AUDI has a driverless car (experimental as well I’m sure) now TWO major manufactures have working on driverless technology. Whats to come soon?

Posted on September 18, 2010 at 12:08amI’m thinking this is a great way to double your carbon footprint. While the Audi is taking a leisurely drive from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon and back, you’re free to host a tofu-free barbeque, go deer hunting, re-inventory your incandescent bulb supply, or sneak around your neighborhood “un-recycling” the trash of the greenie who lives down the block. It’s a great thing!
