Earlier this week, NASA’s Landsat program celebrated is 40th anniversary, putting together then-and-now images to show how natural and man-made factors have changed the shape of Earth’s landscape.
In addition, NASA released its top 5 “Earth as Art” winners. Out of 120 images in its online collection, the agency received 14,000 votes for the best of the best.
Flip through this slide show with captions by NASA’s Ellen Gray:
According to NASA, the Earth as Art series was created by the U.S. Geological Survey, which colored images with a digital palate, “[demonstrating] an artistic resonance in satellite land imagery and [providing] a special avenue of insight about the geography of each scene.
Watch the video countdown of the winners with even more descriptive information about them:

NASA was one of the many things that contributed to America’s greatness. There were a ton of inventions that spun off of this program. Look them up on your computer (that’s one). Of course, one of the greatest things it did was to challenge and inspire young minds; to get them do what seemed impossible. Remember the race to the moon?
Of course, it is one of many things that have been destroyed by your current president. His biggest contribution to your country thus far seems to be inspiring freeloaders to park their butts, self-medicate, pop kids and expect others pay for their life style. Isn’t Obama’s vision (or lack thereof) of America wonderful?

Report Post »When I studied Art Education in college (about 100 yrs ago), one of our instructors insisted that we subscribe to Scientific American, because of the beauty and inspiration in the photos and illustrations of natural elements. Relax and enjoy the beautiful patterns and colors.

Posted on July 26, 2012 at 11:49amObama has made NASA a joke and a shell of what it was. These pictures must have been taken from a Russian spacecraft. NASA can hardly get in the air anymore. Thank you obama.

Posted on July 26, 2012 at 1:55pmI guess I’m not the only one who was thinking that NASA is now no more than an overpaid and glorified photography studio. I wonder if they do family portraits.

Posted on July 26, 2012 at 10:27amWhy does NASA hold back every single photograph from their employer, the American people? ALL photos coming in from the Galaxy, Universe, Planets and Earth SHOULD BE immediately released to the public. What are they hiding? Why do they “selectively” release photos? Most photos are held for a year to decades.
