There’s been no shortage of coverage — and controversy — over Chrysler’s Super Bowl ad featuring Clint Eastwood titled “Halftime in America.” The spot, meant to encourage and inspire Americans, centers on Detroit’s resilience (you can read our full coverage and watch the video here). While Eastwood and his handlers have incessantly claimed the ad wasn’t political, others disagree. Nola.com explains the drama surrounding the ad:
Though some people liked it, the Chrysler Super Bowl commercial in which Clint Eastwood channels “Morning in America”-era Ronald Reagan on behalf of Detroit’s attempted comeback caused some viewers to just go off.
Said Karl Rove on Fox News:
“I’m a huge fan of Clint Eastwood, I thought it was an extremely well-done ad, but it is a sign of what happens when you have Chicago-style politics, and the president of the United States and his political minions are, in essence, using our tax dollars to buy corporate advertising.”
So, radio host Rush Limbaugh decided to produce a spoof of the ad, during which a voiceover, intended to be Eastwood, talks about “kick[ing] [Obama's] skinny butt back to Chicago.” Listen to the audio ad, below:
Reason Magazine got in on the fun, too. The group produced a similar mock video poking fun at Madonna, Lady Gaga, the auto bailout and plenty more. Here’s some of the hilarious transcript:
It’s halftime.
Both teams are listening to a Madonna performance that sounds eerily similar to a Lady Gaga song they’ll hear 10 years from now.
It’s halftime in America too.
People are out of work and they’re hurting.
And they’re wondering where all their money went.
Well, $12.5 billion of it went to Chrysler. In the form of a bailout.
Watch it, below:

Posted on February 8, 2012 at 2:18pmYou know bible, your argument is the grossest use of “pot calling the kettle black” I’ve seen in a long time. Who was it who came out right after the ad and said “yeah that’s us, our bailout worked” gee, it was Jimmy Carney and the Obama white house.
You can’t say your opponents politicize everything when your side was the one who started the avalanche.

and the bailout DID work. Sorry if you don’t want to hear that but GM, for example, paid all the bailout back and are back on top. The truth hurts.

Posted on February 8, 2012 at 3:38pmBible, Those TARP loans that GM repaid – were paid for by another TARP loan! When GM was bailed out, an escrow account was established in case GM needed the extra funds.
When GM emerged from bankruptcy, most of the original loan was converted to more than 60% of the new GM’s common stock, $2.1 Billion in preferred stock was also taken, and the remaining $7.1 Billion remained in Loans. $400 Million in debt was immediately repaid. $2 Billion was repaid during the bankruptcy reorganization, leaving the company with a total of $4.7Billion in TARP loans still needing repaid.
That’s where the escrow account came in. GM closed the account and sent the money back to the Treasurer, creating the illusion GM paid it’s debts. Sorry, it still owes. The company is still in debt to the tune of Billions, and now, the only way for the Government to recover that money is if GM’s stock nearly doubles and they can sell off that 60% share, or the preferred stock, without crashing them.

If you don’t think so, read the book ‘The Killer Elite’ and see what operation he and William Shatner were willing to fund after VietNam to recover downed US servicemen that were suspected to be held. Don’t mock Clint, mock the administration that’s causing a true patriot to perform the job of the president… be the cheer leader this turd is not.

Posted on February 8, 2012 at 11:53amRush said multiple times in his broadcast that he thinks Eastwood was duped. He does not believe Eastwood is supporting anything Obama. He thinks that he did the commercial for one reason, and the lib producers, editors and directors cut and pasted it into something that has a strong double meaning. Rush was not dissing Eastwood, he was dissing the commercial.

Posted on February 8, 2012 at 1:13pmThere is no contest between Clint and Rush in who to trust.
Mr. Eastwood is a U.S. Navy veteran who earned his way to the top step by hard earned step in a 50 year career in the very heart of Babylon. He leads by example, and takes orders from no one. He was elected mayor twice and served without any issues. There are NO Clint Eastwood scandals.
Mr. Limbaugh has discredited himself on many occasions and makes his living by manipulating his audiences with rhetoric, trying to sway opinion for his own profitable outcomes. I do not consider Rush to be a patriot, have never heard of him serving his country in any way, and we are all aware of his record of scandalous incidents that exhibit criminal behavior.

Posted on February 8, 2012 at 8:39amThought the spoof was really funny. I find it interesting that only one person here and nobody else on the radio or news seems to talk about the amount of money that was spent on this ad by a company that was bailed out with our tax payer money. The original ad was a great ad just which it hadn’t used taxpayer money to make it. And before anyone chimes in and says well they didn’t use the taxpayer bailout money on that. Just remember until they pay that back every bit of money they spend is taxpayer money.
