Blaze Readers: Here Are Your Faith Poll Results — The Bible, Conscience Protection & More

Here Are the Results From the Blaze Faith, Religion & Government PollIn December, the Blaze conducted a flash poll that provided some intriguing insights regarding the demographics and political views of our readers. Last week, we unveiled another set of questions in an effort to examine readers’ views on the roles of faith and government in their lives.

Considering the religious freedom issues that continue to emerge across America — and in nations around the globe — understanding how the public sees both God and the government’s appropriate role in religious processes is paramount. With secular attacks on faith continuing to ramp up and with the Obama administration’s controversial stance on religious institutions and contraceptives, this examination is timely.

To provide a truly comprehensive recap, we’ve divided the results into two sections — “religious beliefs and practices” and “the intersection of faith and government.”

Religious Beliefs & Practices

Currently, the poll has brought in more than 833,800 responses to a multitude of faith-based questions (this number accounts for total answers given, not the number of individuals participating). Overall, the Blaze audience — at least the portion that took part in the survey — is overwhelmingly religious. An astounding 91 percent of readers self-identify as Christians (Catholic, evangelical and other), with 66 percent saying that they do daily or weekly Bible studies or religious readings on their own to help build upon their faith (2 percent reported being Jewish; 3 to 4 percent report being atheists in separate questions).

Additionally, 72 percent claim that they pray on a daily basis, with nearly seven in 10 reporting that they attend church, temple or a religious service at least monthly. In a separate question, this proportion is even larger, as 85 percent of respondents claim that they go to God regularly for guidance on any and all major decisions they are faced with.

Here Are the Results From the Blaze Faith, Religion & Government Poll

On another note, 86 percent reported that God is the most important “person” or “element” in their lives, with only 14 percent of those answering that God does not fit this description. Nearly every individual (98 percent) answering the poll contends that genuine evil exists in the world.

Here are some additional results:

  • 51 percent claim to have read the Bible in its entirety; 49 percent claim they have not (but 79 percent say they have read more than half of the holy book)
  • The majority (93 percent) believe that the devil exists
  • For one question, four percent of respondents claimed to be polytheistic (to embrace a belief in multiple gods)
  • 93 percent believe God has performed miracles in their lives
  • The vast majority (95 percent) report having shared their faith with someone else
  • 26 percent say they have converted from one faith to another or from non-belief to religious adherence (74 percent have not experienced a conversion)
  • Nearly eight in 10 (76 percent) believe the Bible is “completely true”
  • 70 percent do not believe in evolution; 30 percent do
  • Only 47 percent say they have sincerely investigated another religion
  • 65 percent believe you must be “born again” to enter heaven

The Intersection of Faith & Government

When it comes to faith in society, the results were equally fascinating. An overwhelming majority (97 percent) of those who took part in the poll believe that the decline of faith in America will have serious moral and ethical consequences. Additionally, this same proportion contends that the nation was built upon Christian principles.

Here Are the Results From the Blaze Faith, Religion & Government Poll

Considering the Obama administration’s mandate that certain religious institutions violate their consciences by providing birth control and related services, eight in 10 Blaze readers oppose the measure, with only 20 percent claiming that they agree with Obama’s stance.

As far as nativity scenes on local, state and federal property go, 97 percent oppose removing them, with only three percent claiming that they should be taken off of government lands. While five percent of those answering believe that the official National Day of Prayer is a violation of the separation of church and state, 95 percent reject this ideal.

On the education front, 84 percent of those participating said that they would vote in support of putting religious education back into our schools; 16 percent said they would not. While compelling, this is a relatively vague indicator (i.e. the question and answer don’t address whether this educational amendment would be voluntary or mandatory for students), although it does seem to support the notion that the majority see the need for faith-based values in the public education system.

Here’s more on the faith and government front:

  • 88 percent contend that only Americans’ faith in God will restore the nation
  • The overwhelming majority (97 percent) believe Shariah law will impact America negatively (in a separate question, 63 percent say that Jews, Christians and Muslims can co-exist peacefully)
  • 97 percent believe our laws should remain based on Judeo-Christian values
  • Nearly all respondents (98 percent) believe a valedictorian should be able to share his or her faith during a graduation ceremony
  • 97 percent believe that Jews and Christians should stand together to prevent the decline of faith in America
  • Only two percent believe that “In God We Trust” should be removed from all government money and buildings; 98 percent disagree

We’d like to thank everyone who participated in the poll, as it provided some noteworthy insight into the faith and values of our readers. If you’d still like to participate, you can do so here.

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”.
And this is what it is going to take folks! Lord help us!

If such a large percentage claim to be Christians why is there a Democrat in any office in the nation? As my Mother once said, “You can’t be a true Christian and vote for a Democrat. Republican and Democrat politicians are the same, vote for the party platform”.

@Desmo118, I think this statement from the poll might be a clue.

“26 percent say they have converted from one faith to another or from non-belief to religious adherence (74 percent have not experienced a conversion)”

“Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:5-8 ESV)

Not everyone who says to me LORD,LORD, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the Will of my Father! Many will say in that day,LORD,LORD, have I not done wonderful works in Your name? I will profess unto them,I NEVER knew you that works iniquity. MatthewCh7 V15-23 [paraphrased] To those who call themselves Christian, and promote/approve of abortion. Are you Wolves inside??? The reason why we have so many Democrats and ungodly people in office is because Christians while they may be saved – are not educated how to discern the truth from a lie!

Many in the survey believe the Anti Christ is here on this earth with us now! – I too believe we are in these time – The Bible teaches us that “Many among us will be deceived by the Anti-Christ – even the wisest among us. The Bible also teaches us how to determine a “True Profit” from a False Profit” – it works every time.

If a profit, edifies himself he is false – if a profit edifies God – he is a true profit. It is not necessarily based on what they say so much as their actions!

Obama says he a Christian – yet he tells Israel to go back to 1967 borders – Obama is a False Profit – plus I’m not sure he can part the seas like he said he could in his acceptance speech. Obama likes to edify himself. Many believe Obama is there Messiah – They are wrong! Obama can’t get you into Heaven – he can wash you sin away.

Many may not remember Reagan – he never ever took credit for one thing God did for him – God gave Reagan Supernatural Wisdom to tell Russia to tear down these Walls – this free the Jews who then returned to Israel as the Bible said they would 2000 years before. Unbelievable, proficiency profiled. A false profit would have tried to take credit for it – Reagan never did.

And I add –THY WILL not mine be done. America has chosen to allow abortion for any reason given.
America has rejected the founding principles– Religion ,Morality , and Knowledge being necessary to good government, America has chosen to follow leaders who do not rule in fear of God.–And Courts that do not support the Constitution. In our fat we have forgotten God. If My People called by My name …
is a beautiful promise -but it works Only if there is repentance-and seeking Gods face.Thy Will be done. I prefer because I have never known any other Country as my own save these United States–and we have forgotten God.

The athiests scream at the top of their lungs how wrong everyone else is and try impose their beliefs on everyone else. I don’t know of any christian that demands everyone view things as they do. I share my testimony of God and Jesus Christ every chance I get but I would never put someone down who does not accept it. To each his own. God judges on works, not words. You don’t know any christian that demands people live by their values but you expect the government to base its laws on the teachings of christ(of which most of these teachings are new in the last 50-100 years and are pushed by the catholic church and their cronies in government for their own self-interest). For example if they didnt tell you to get angry about “contraception mandate” you wouldnt, you would just say if I dont want it, I wont take it and in my opinion no christian should, end of story.

63% say Christians, Jews and muslims can live together peacefully. You mean that two out of every three Americans have been paying absolutely no attention to islam and muslims? Oh, this is going to leave an ugly mark somewhere down the road.

I tried to take the last poll but it completely locked up half way through. This time I got to the end and had to sign up with yet some other group I don‘t know from Adam’s housecat and don’t trust with my information in order to post it, so I didn’t. Hackers and identity thieves use every available door to get to our stuff so why add an extra door for them. It seems like we should be able to take these polls just because we’re already members. Christians, Jews, and Muslims CAN live peacefully. For example, there are towns in Israel with Muslims that support Israel, and live with Jews there. Or, for example, a NYC public school will have many Christians, Jews, and Muslims, many of whom are friends with people of other faiths. Many times throughout history people of different faiths have lived together, and they still can.

Josh, I don’t think your statement is entirely accurate. Jerusalem is mostly peaceful because there are 18 year old Israeli men on every street corner carrying M16‘s and P90’s. There are also undercover security forces throughout the city.

Bethlehem is 100% Palestinian and Jewish cabbies will NOT drive you into the city.

Further north, the picture you paint is more common, but those are much smaller towns and the Arabs there are Lebanese, not Palestinian or Syrian. I would consider that the exception, not the rule.

Our country was founded on freedom to follow whatever religion for belief one’s heart desired. That means having tolerance and accepting other religions and not cramming a specific belief down anyone’s throat. In God we trust is merely saying in a higher power. That goes for whatever religion you are. Not a specific deity. the only belief we should be intolerant of is atheism. Atheist God is government without saying the word God. *In government we trust* that is what is tearing our country down. Another reason Planned Parenthood has been running wild with getting sex in schools, contraception issue, government-funded abortions. radical Atheism, and radical Islam are the only belief systems we should be intolerant of. Peaceful life promoting religions versus violent death promoting religions. isn’t that the biblical good versus evil?

What do you mean 7 in 10 don’t believe in evolution? Of course there’s evolution and devolution. It is written in Genesis that in the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth. It doesn’t say how long it took God to do it. But it does say that it took 6 days to create the “earth” but that isn’t the planet, because it’s the earth, the earth, but not the face of the earth. When God said “Let there be light” that was people seeing there is something to life, something more, and then he separated the people beneath from the people above the firmament of Heaven. There are people who are currently living on the planet who are of Heaven because that is their fruit which was given to them when they were born again. That’s why the Bible says: lest you be born again, you will not acquire the Kingdom “of” Heaven. Because they have to come in with new fruit.

demonstrate his existence and build faith. No one can “point out” anything or “prove”

Oops, you misspelled Babble in your username there. The Bible also mentions men from EVERY nation coming together to attempt to build a tower up to Heaven. I think that’s where you got off the wrong track; God said He’d “confound their language, and your misrepresentation of the miracles of the Bible prove he did a good job! If you’ve never experienced a miracle or know anyone who has, you can’t possibly identify with any of the miracles of the Bible. But for the same God who could change me. from a little kid who “never heard a good story she didn’t want to embellish and personalize”, to a Christian who was always hearing from her kids, “Yeah, we’ll ask Mom, cause we know she can’t lie!”, I guarantee you that none of those things you mention could have been half the miracle for Him to do!

8 in 10 believe the bible is completely true?

I would love to know what would be the percentage of those people who could name the beatitudes, I’d guarantee more of those people could name more American idol judges than they could disciples, and what’s the greatest spiritual gift? So many people say they are religious and go to church and read the bible/scriptures… so did the Pharisees. Reading the bible, praying every day and going to church is meaningless without living it.

When those 8 of 10 people who believe the bible is true also strive to turn the other cheek, strive to remember that only those who are without sin should cast the first stone, and that Jesus blesses the merciful and peacemakers (not the picketing screaming bible thumping chest pounders) maybe when the majority of Christians actually practice their own teachings, instead of just preaching them… Then these statistics will mean something.

If your first reaction is hostility towards these words, then this is specifically meant for you, and you need to seriously think what your bible actually teaches

I DON‘T believe the Babble is true so I don’t have to worry about that plank in the eye nonsense. That’s just “I know you are but what am I” for fairy tale believers.

I do like to criticize people who claim to believe that it‘s real but then they only act like christians when it’s convenient for them. So many people have themselves fooled into thinking they’re on board with something that they simply pay lip service to.

Searching into our history and grabbing ideas and concepts he knows will draw appeal do the nature of our heritage. The moon, being like the New World, Newt dreams and imagine himself as some of these magnificent heros of past. Something I learned long ago when I finally grew up, you can not dream your way into your purpose. You are who you are with the skills you have being a result of the actions, consequences and successes in your life. A political life is a short cut, a fraud, if you will. A place where you can skip past the foot work of developing your character and instead losing sight of who you really are or were even intended to be. Our greatest leaders hadn’t set out to be who they were, it was a result of their lives. They found themselves falling into positions, politics or even running for President as a result not an intention. Who we are is not by our design but the lords. Sorry, but Newt has been at this since he could remember. He don’t know hardships, he just dumps them and moves on, they give no definition to molding him because there is no him. Something many fellow Christians are guilty of.

Now if we could just get people to be honest with themselves, then I could believe these statistics. When people lie to themselves, then the lie becomes the truth believed in their heart and they will even say “This is the truth and nothing but the truth so help me God.” I find it funny that so many people say the pray to God over major decisions, like what buying a second house or a new car, or unplugging grandma even? People should be praying for wisdom and that’s all. The other is called Baal, because God isn’t going to say, “Why yes, you should buy that second car or house.“ If people were praying for wisdom then they would say to themselves ”Is it good for the spirit of my child, that I let them know we have money?” Or they would confide in their own high mindedness about (which is sending up the incense by the way), whether buying a second house is wise because they will further pass on the perception of value and what is important to other people. People are maimed for a reason, people are blind for a reason, people are homeless for a reason, people go through tragedy for a reason. Because when I pray to God about giving a homeless person a blanket the Lord say: the man is homeless for a reason, it is far better to put your thought into teaching the homeless man than to make him comfortable at being homeless. Give him a blanket and he will struggle to get free blankets, but not a home. And that makes my heart feel good and like I have given.

Within a species, yes – look at dogs, color variations of birds, etc. The idea we evolved from a pool of slime is ludicrous; it violates the Laws of Thermodynamics: that energy dissipates and order devolves into disorder. (Want proof? My first computer programs were entered using a card deck… drop the blasted thing and then try to compile it.) The information encoded in our DNA is too complex to “evolve” from a lower state. The odds that male and female appeared at precisely the right time among so many different species with functioning, compatible reproductive systems are essentially impossible in an evolutionary model; it takes more faith to believe THAT fairytale than believe a much greater intelligent power assembled this system and put it into motion.

I suggest to you that you read Genesis Revisited by Zechariah SItchin. You may want to read his other works first to understand where he comes from with his conclusions. I am always sceptical of the word of man whether it is in the form of science or religion but his works especially in Genesis Revisited shows where science and the creation stories are basically on to the same conclusion. You will have to read it with an opened mind but if nothing else has much scientific and religous education.

You are right. The Bible also explains the the process of God’s creation very well. If a man just reads carefully he will see that AFTER Genesis 1:1 is stated, THEN God began his creative genius of preparing His already created earth to accept plants and then animals and finally, man.
There is no real evidence that mankind has been on the earth for millions or billions of years. The entire six creative “days” or epics could have been very very long in time. To say each creative day was a literal 24 hrs is not reasonable.

Evolution theory would be better supported if scientist would show just ONE picture, one example of a relic with a small dorsal fin, a receeding thumb, a short tale or anything demonstrating creatures evolve from one species to another. If evolution was factual, there would be thousands of these specimens excavated throughout the world to substantiate evolution and to show the world. Secondly, if evolution is the course of life….why has it stopped? Why has no one or thing “evolved”?

Tom Mack was an All-Pro offensive lineman for the Los Angeles Rams in the 60‘s and 70’s and his best weight was 245lbs. The St Louis Rams offensive line averaged weight was 311 pounds in 2011. In 83 the FDA approved growth-hormone supplication for livestock and poultry industry and thus, man “evolved” into a species with a higher density of muscle compared to the tom Mack era.

…so dont use the argument of how man has evolved, he would not have done so without a drug altering supplication from a government entity.

The poll results say 97 percent of respondents “believe our laws should remain based on Judeo-Christian values.” It’s difficult to be sure, but isn‘t that the same as saying the State should sanction citizens who aren’t interested in upholding biblical values through some sort of State-sponsored Christian Sharia? Clearly, that ain’t right. Much of what’s wrong with our laws has happened when our laws attempt to uphold Judeo-Christian values, tax exempt as they are. Take the drug laws, for example. Everyone admits that’s a one huge nightmare created ’cause Christians wanted to mandate morality. Much of America’s saving grace comes because the Constitution prohibits Christian citizens, or any other religion, from imposing too many of their faith-based notions and values upon civil society. It hasn’t always worked perfect, but it’s been better here in America than most places where the religiously self-righteous rule their subjects with the same fervor fascists are infamous for.

I don’t pay too much attention to this bc we all know most posters here are “religious” if you will; professing Christians. What’s really shocking that needs to be spread in the national news is this:

Prior to 9-11, 25,000 Americans converted to ISLAM; afterward, it has quadrupled….people started checking into Islam and being converted (mostly African Americans)… over 80% of converts were raised in a CHRISTIAN church….meaning 60,000 are converting per year.

So essentially what this survey proves is that, despite any claims The Blaze may make in terms of having a broad populist base that values thinking for itself, Beck’s followers are defined according to extremely narrow ideological parameters. The enormously lopsided responses to these questions seems to point to the fact that while Blazers will pay lip service to intellectual independence and researching things for oneself, somehow this group has remained incredibly homogenous.

And I presume the very next passage must be something like: “OK, but let me explain what I mean by “born again,” since this is a rather vague concept and perhaps people will translate this book into foreign languages someday so I want to be as clear as possible….”

It is just plain silly to assume that the modern English-language concept of being “born again,” as understood by any number of different religious practices and rituals, is exactly what Jesus meant (assuming already that whoever was writing this and transcribing from memory the speech had it entirely correct) when he used the phrase.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word became flesh (Jesus) There are 3 who bear witness in Heaven: The Father, The Son and the Holy Ghost……and these THREE are ONE. That settles most of the questions for me.
