Deja Vu? Hundreds of Occupiers Stream Into NYC’s Zuccotti Park After Barricades Removed

NEW YORK (AP) — Barricades surrounding a park that served as a camp for Occupy Wall Street protesters were removed Tuesday, allowing protesters to stream back in.
The atmosphere was celebratory but calm on Tuesday evening as about 300 protesters began filling Zuccotti Park a couple of hours after the barricades were taken down. Protesters milled around, eating lasagna on paper plates and playing chess.
Security guards who were previously guarding the barricades stood off to the side, along with a handful of police officers.
“Word spread pretty quickly, and we ran down here,” demonstrator Lauren DiGioia said. “It’s hard to remember what it was like before the barricades were put up.”
Zuccotti Park Barricades Removed: MyFoxNY.com
She said some Occupy protesters, who have complained about financial inequality and what they call corporate greed, planned to stay overnight, but it was unclear whether they planned to use tents or sleeping bags, which have been banned from the lower Manhattan park since an early morning police raid evicted them on Nov. 15.
One security guard told a group of protesters: “No sleeping bags allowed, either, OK, folks?”
About 20 Occupy Wall Street protesters spent the night.
By 6 a.m, about 20 remained, including Chris O’Donnell.
He says three people were arrested for lying down. A police spokesman couldn’t immediately confirm any arrests.
Protester Jeff Brewer said he tried to erect a tent but it was quickly taken down by security guards.
“I was still putting in the poles when they showed up,” Brewer said. “Our food is in, our library is up. I think it’s going to be a big celebration for us in the park right now.”
On Monday, civil rights groups filed a complaint with the city’s buildings department saying the barricades were a violation of city zoning law. The complaint said barricades surrounding the park since Nov. 15 interfered with the public’s use of it. The public park is privately owned and is required to be open 24 hours a day.
Park owner Brookfield Office Properties didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

(Print out a copy and file it away. Your computer may not work by the end of 2012.)
Step 1 – Test the system. The Occupy Wall Street demonstrations, in full swing during
Report Post »October and November 2011, were designed to be a test, to see if the Obama machine
could successfully organize demonstrations in multiple cities, and sustain the
demonstrations for a period of weeks. Please note how these demonstrations, with a few
exceptions, lacked the level of violence and destruction typically associated with
demonstrations organized by the Democrat Party. Again, with few exceptions, the union
thugs were not present to fan the flames. The test was to see if they could get significant
numbers of young people on the streets over a loosely defined agenda. It was also an
opportunity to measure the response of local law enforcement and the Republican
presidential candidates. The various demonstrations also provided a platform for class
warfare campaign speeches by Obama. The test phase of getting demonstrators on the
streets will die out before Christmas.

Report Post »They are wrong about me. I would hold my nose and vote for Santorum. I would have voted for Bachmann. I would even have voted for Cain. But, the Republicans have miscalculated. I am not an automatic vote. If they put Romney in as the Republican candidate, I must not be a Republican. I will vote for Tea Party candidates for the house and Senate, but I will write in a Presidential vote.
Some here say that it would be a vote for Obama. Actually it would be a vote for integrity. Its the Republicans trying to sustain their power that is the problem. There may be many others like me. If Obama is reelected, it will be because the Republicans ran a McCain, Dole, establishment candidate, not a person who will fix the problems. If Obama is reelected, it will be their fault, not mine.

Report Post »Not an educated man, are you?
There are basically three dominant economic systems that have existed.
A. Feudal System
The King owns everything and everybody. He chooses who lives, dies, or prospers.
B. Socialism
1. Marxism – The government owns everything and everybody. The government chooses who lives, dies, or prospers.
2. Fascism – People own some things, but the government runs everything. People are not important. Only the state is important. The state regulates all property and transactions. The government chooses who lives, dies, or prospers.
C. Capitalism
The nature of man. The only system compatible with Freedom. We The People control the government, not the other way around.
If government disappeared, what would be left would be capitalism. It is the natural order of things. It only fails if government abuses it.

Posted on January 11, 2012 at 12:50pm“Capitalism is at it’s natural end.” Wrong!! We have no been in a pure capitalistic market for a least a hundred years when the liberals started screwing with it in the early 1900‘s and it’s only gotten worse with time. In the 1970′s when the EPA was formed it was the beginning of the end for capitalism. You’re right, It’s over but not because of capitalism, but because of the mental disorder of liberalism that is directly from Satan. Liberals hate themselves and therefore hate everyone else. Misery loves Company.

If Capitalism turns out to be a failure (it is still working at the moment), then Socialism and its variants are a failed-on-runtime experiment that the programmer keeps trying to get to work on an unwilling architecture.
Capitalism has existed to a greater or lesser extent for thousands of years even if it was never called such, makes everyone happy that actually works for their happy end, and is responsible for almost all of the major technological advances throughout history.
Socialism has existed for less than 150 years, begins in misery, runs on misery and ends in misery. The chief export of Socialism is fears and paranoia – offhand, I cannot name one major advance rendered unto the world by a socialist or communist nation.
Refute me, if you have the skillz to do so.

Republicans were able to win big in 2010 because of Obamacare. If Romney is the nominee, he won’t be able to bring that up. If he does, Obama is going to make him look stupid. So all Romney will have is the economy…and we all know the media has already given Obama a pass on that by blaming it on Bush. So yeah, you’ll get your wish and get your man the nomination. Posted on January 11, 2012 at 10:06amIt is not a public park, it is a private park (owned by the neighboring building), but it is required to be open to the public 24 hours a day.
New York (and I assume other large cities around America) have many such areas, typically forced upon developers who want to push the envelope of what would otherwise be allowed on the property they want to build on.
It is unusual that it has to remain open 24/7, there are many “open areas” in NYC that close for a few hours a day or weekly, monthly or annually just so the owners can assert their ownership of the property.
Cities like to do this type of thing because it allows them ot add “open space” in their city and they don’t have to take care of it – zero cost to the taxpayer.
Report Post »barber2
Posted on January 11, 2012 at 10:27amBEE: interesting information. How nice that the developers and government get to make “deals” which screw the taxpayer who has no say in the deal when it’s made ! The “deal” made this mess possible and the Lefty lawyers/ advisers knew how to use it ! This reminds me of the typical public union deals wherein the taxpayer also gets screwed . Taxation without representation.
Report Post »quiltgal
Posted on January 11, 2012 at 10:45amThere was an article about these parks in the New York Times several months ago. Apparently NYC has been granting zoning waivers to developers in exchange for public space. In this case, Brookfield Properties received concessions on height and setback restrictions at 1 Liberty Plaza in exchange for the public being allowed to use this park. There are a few hundred of these types of privately-owned public parks in NYC. Usage standards are a bit different from those for city-owned parks. The city mandates privately-owned public parks be open 24 hours a day, while city-owned parks have curfews.
Since most OWS participants seem to have a very shallow understanding of issues, I can only conclude that they care more about showing off their new social order (communal living in tents) than about giving the world clarity. But it might be even more inane than that. They may just like to party, and like immature teenage hoods, feel that a party is always more fun when there’s drugs, rebellion, and destruction involved.

These are troubling times . Especially when leaders in this administration seem to be both promoting this civil unrest and using it for their political advantage. At least in the 60′s, our government leaders did not share the same values as the hippies, the druggies, and the Weathermen. Now some of those very people are RUNNING our government.

Posted on January 11, 2012 at 9:21amIf they were really concerned about the things that they claim upset them, they would do as you say. The fact that they don‘t makes it pretty clear it’s just the Democrat party professional protest community in support of Obama.

Posted on January 11, 2012 at 9:10amIs there a pack of rabid rats and feral javalinas and wild boars we can send into the park as well? The screaming of the Occupy band will end soon afterward.
