OAK CREEK, Wis. (TheBlaze/AP) — It’s only been two days since Wade Michael Page allegedly open-fired and murdered six people at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin. As time progresses, new details about the shooter continue to emerge. Among the pieces of information distributed thus far, we’ve learned that Page played in white supremacist heavy metal bands and posted frequent comments on Internet forums for skinheads, repeatedly exhorting members to act more decisively to support their cause.

“If you are wanting to meet people, get involved and become active,” he wrote last year. “Stop hiding behind the computer or making excuses.”

A day after Page strode into a Sikh temple with a 9mm handgun and multiple magazines of ammunition, authorities were trying to determine if the 40-year-old Army veteran was taking his own advice when he opened fire on total strangers in a house of worship.

Detectives cautioned they might never know for sure. But the picture of Page that began to develop Monday — found in dark corners of the Internet, in records from a dodgy Army career and throughout a life lived on the margins — suggested he was a white supremacist who wanted to see his beliefs advanced with action.

Page, who was shot to death by police, described himself as a member of the “Hammerskins Nation,” a skinhead group rooted in Texas that has branches in Australia and Canada, according to the SITE Monitoring Service, a Maryland-based private intelligence firm that searches the Internet for extremist activity.

Between March 2010 and the middle of this year, Page posted 250 messages on one skinhead site and appeared eager to recruit others. In March 2011, he advertised for a “family friendly” barbecue in North Carolina, imploring others to attend.

In November, Page challenged a poster who indicated he would leave the United States if Herman Cain was elected president.

“Stand and fight, don’t run,” he implored.

In an April message, Page said: “Passive submission is indirect support to the oppressors. Stand up for yourself and live the 14 words,” a reference to a common white supremacists mantra.

The bald, heavily tattooed bassist trained in psychological warfare before he was demoted and discharged more than a decade ago. After leaving the military, he became active in the obscure underworld of white supremacist music, playing in bands with names such as Definite Hate and End Apathy.

Still, Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards cautioned Monday that investigators might never know for certain what motivated the attack on the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in suburban Milwaukee. So far, no hate-filled manifesto has emerged, nor any angry blog or ranting Facebook entries.

“We have a lot of information to decipher, to put it all together before we can positively tell you what that motive is — if we can determine that,” Edwards said.

Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit civil rights organization in Montgomery, Ala., described Page as a “frustrated neo-Nazi” whose bands’ sinister-sounding names seemed to “reflect what he went out and actually did.”

Their lyrics talked about genocide against Jews and other minorities.

In a 2010 interview, Page told a white supremacist website that he became active in white-power music in 2000, when he left his native Colorado and started the band End Apathy in 2005 in Nashville, N.C.

Across several states, fragments of Page’s life emerged Monday in public records and interviews.

He joined the military in Milwaukee in 1992 and was a repairman for the Hawk missile system before switching jobs to become an Army psychological operations specialist in a battalion at Fort Bragg, N.C.

In “psy-ops,” Page would have trained to host public meetings between locals and American forces, use leaflet campaigns in a conflict zone or use loudspeakers to communicate with enemy soldiers.

He never deployed overseas in that role, Army spokesman George Wright said.

Page was demoted in June 1998 for getting drunk on duty and going AWOL, two defense officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release information about the gunman.

Page also received extra duty and was fined. The defense officials said they had no other details about the incident, such as how long Page was gone or whether he turned himself in. He was discharged later that same year.

Page bought a brick ranch house outside Fayetteville, N.C., in 2007 with help from a Veterans Affairs mortgage. But on Monday the home was boarded up with knee-high weeds in the yard. A notice taped to the front indicated the home was in foreclosure and had been sold to a bank in January.

Before buying the home, Page lived with Army soldier Darren Shearlock, his wife and young children in a doublewide trailer in a rural community near Fort Bragg, records show.

Shearlock, dressed in his military fatigues, declined to comment about Page or the shooting when approached Monday by The Associated Press.

Page’s former stepmother said she was devastated to learn of the bloodshed.

“He was a precious little boy, and that’s what my mind keeps going back to,” said Laura Page, of Denver, who was divorced from Page’s father around 2001.

In Wisconsin, Page responded to a recent online ad seeking a roommate in Cudahy, a small city outside Milwaukee.

He rented a room in Kurt Weins’ house in June, telling Weins he had recently broken up with his girlfriend and needed a place to stay.

Weins said Page stayed in that room all the time, declining invitations to watch TV with him. Page explained that he wanted to bring some belongings out of storage, so he rented an apartment several weeks later in a duplex owned by Weins across the street.

“We talked, but it was really about nothing,” Weins said. “He seemed pretty calm. He didn’t seem like the type to raise his voice.”

After the FBI searched the apartment in the duplex, Weins returned and found only a computer desk, chair and an inflatable mattress.

Suburban Milwaukee police had no contact with Page before Sunday, and his record gave no indication he was capable of such intense violence.

The FBI was leading the investigation because the shooting was considered domestic terrorism. The agency said it had no reason to believe anyone other than Page was involved.

Page entered the temple as several dozen people prepared for Sunday services. He opened fire without saying a word.

The president of the temple died defending the house of worship he founded.

Satwant Singh Kaleka, 65, managed to find a simple butter knife in the temple and attempted to stab the gunman before being shot twice, his son said Monday.

Amardeep Singh Kaleka said FBI agents hugged him, shook his hand and told him his father was a hero.

“Whatever time he spent in that struggle gave the women time to get cover” in the kitchen, Kaleka said.

With their turbans and long beards, Sikhs are often mistaken for Muslims or Arabs, and have inadvertently become targets of anti-Muslim bias in the United States.

Federal officials said the gun used in the attack had been legally purchased. Page had been licensed to own weapons since at least 2008, when he paid $5 each for five pistol-purchase permits in North Carolina.

The six dead ranged in age from 39 to 84 years old. Three people were critically wounded, including a police officer.

Online records show Page had a brief criminal history in other states, including pleading guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief after a 1994 arrest in El Paso, Texas, for getting drunk and kicking holes in the wall of a bar. He received six months’ probation.

Page also pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in Colorado in 1999 but never completed a sentence that included alcohol treatment, records show.

He was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving again in 2010 in North Carolina after running his car off the side of a highway. The case was dropped a year later for lack of evidence, according to court records.

When the Nazis occupied Europe in 1939-41, they proclaimed the death penalty for any person who failed to surrender all firearms within 24 hours.
    There may be various reasons why the Nazis did not invade Switzerland, but one of those reasons is that every Swiss man had a rifle at home.
    For this we have no better record than the Nazi invasion plans, which stated that, because of the Swiss shooting skills, Switzerland would be difficult to conquer and pacify.
    European countries occupied by the Nazis had strict gun controls before the war, and the registration lists facilitated confiscation of firearms and the execution of their owners.
    By being able to keep out of both world wars in part through the dissuasive factor of an armed populace, Switzerland demonstrates that civilian firearm possession may prevent large numbers of deaths and even genocide. The Holocaust never came to Switzerland, the Jewish population of which was armed just like their fellow citizens. In the rest of Europe, what if there had been not just one, but two, three, or many Warsaw Ghetto Uprisings?

Some 91 of these 189 murders and attempts involved firearms. With its population of seven million (including 1.2 million foreigners), Switzerland had a homicide rate of 1.2 per 100,000. There were 2,498 robberies (and attempted robberies), of which 546 involved firearms, resulting in a robbery rate of 36 per 100,000. Almost half of these crimes were committed by non-resident foreigners, whom locals call “criminal tourists.”

    there have been no school massacres in Switzerland, where guns and kids mix freely. At shooting matches, bicycles aplenty are parked outside. Inside the firing shelter, the competitors pay 12-year-olds tips to keep score. The 16-year-olds shoot rifles with men and women of all ages. In fact, the tourist brochure, “Zurich News” recommends September’s Knabenschiessen (boy’s shooting contest) as a must-see: “The oldest Zurich tradition consists of a shooting contest at the Albisguetli (range) for 12 to 16 year-old boys and girls and a colorful three-day fun-fair.” The event has been held since 1657.
    All males aged 20 to 42 are required by militia system regulation to keep rifles and/or pistols at home. In addition, gun shops abound. Yet firearms are rarely used in crime.
    Homicide is tied to a willingness to resort to violence, not the mere presence of guns.

    I see this guy as an intolerant Atheist. I think it is more about an attack on religion. He obviously was uneducated regarding the Sikh religion. I know that I was. I may have connected these people to the typical Middle Eastern Muslim myself. There are a lot of people in this country who resent the buildup of Muslims in this country considering we are fighting those very people now. People are dying in large numbers.Yet these same Muslims are demanding rights in this country and are getting what they ask for. Muslims throughout history have never changed. Don’t be fooled by so called peaceful Muslims. That is a joke and most people who are not Neanderthal know it. they all want Americans dead!

    The predictable re-active agenda for “gun control” will ensue, with no mention of liberal intellectuals demanding that property owners who declare gun free zones, provide armed security, or that we disarm Afghanistan or Iraq, and other Islamic nations, because they are a bunch of gun loving, christian murdering psycho-paths (which they don’t because they know their gun control logic is senseless, they only want to control US citizens?)?

    Or is the real discussion about how many US soldiers do not go on murdering rampages, but instead would rather commit suicide, then extract revenge on others after attempting to live with their friends and families with wounds that may never heal from our war on “terrorism”?

    Don’t worry, only the media talks about things they don’t understand, Americans don’t speak about these things because they are not a priority? When will the media realize that if the rest of the country lurches into economic prosperity by electing good businessmen to office, they are going to participate in the prosperity, instead of playing mind games with the public that are so transparent, the media is actually loosing advertising revenue?

    Not enough imformation to know for sure what triggered this tragedy, but the early tidbits are that he was against oppression. This sounds to me like an incubated hate breeding inside him over oppression. A short list of others exhibiting this behavior is Jeramiah Wright, Louis Farrenkamph, and Barrack Obama. Excuse my spelling.

      My heart and condolences go out to the families of those shot at the Sikh Temple in Wisconsin on Sunday. My utter disgust goes out to those in the media and on the left who again as usual falsely rush to associate violence with Republicans, conservatives, Tea Party supporters, 2nd Amendment advocates, or other small government advocates … from where neither violence nor hate stem … and amongst whom white supremacists are not found. This overt campaign to overwrite actual history is beneath contempt; White supremacists (e.g., KKK) are historically native to the Democrat Party … they were the racist Dixiecrats who become Yellow Dog Democrats, preferring to vote for a yellow dog than a Republican (and blacks were all Republicans then). Now, I don’t believe that many Democrats today are White Supremacists but the likelihood of finding one amongst conservative/Tea Party/Republican Americans is certainly no more likely. It is hateful for our media to insinuate otherwise …. and it is ignorance that our hateful main stream media feeds on, sigh.

    This incidence is sad and tragic, and I extend my sympathy to the Sikh community. As to motive, it seems apparent that Page was consumed by hatred, probably even for himself. He did not just target these innocent people, but also shot a police officer 8 or 9 times.

Man is life’s loser, so he has to find someone to blame besides himself; it’s the Jews, it’s all the minorities, it’s the white man, etc. “Of course it is not my fault I’m a loser”. And I am sick of the “he thought they were Muslim’s” narrative. This is as much false reporting as he was a tea party guy. The people he shot were not white, he was an angry white supremicist.       mtcountrygrl: There’s almost 10k black on white homicides in America each and every year and 100ks of rapes. I only hope that you feel just as passionate about those crimes as you do this one.

      On the contrary I bet you can‘t find where whites have murdered more than a dozen or so blacks and I’m sure the Media will go into great detail on each and every one of them and I bet you can’t find 10 black women which white males have raped..

Pudgy fat guys who act tough wiht a gun but are cowards in the end. I was at a music festival in July and a mid 20′s kid was walking around in a dirty pair of jeans that were way too big for his 130 pound frame. Dirty sneakers, pierced nipples and was having withdrawls from cocaine use( i could hear him talking to his girlfriend about it) and on his back a huge tattoo that said “ White Pride”. I doubt many would be proud of him but that is the racist types. Cowards

    This guy had problems before his discharge and was a loose cannon before
    they released this nut-job on the public…

    I think this guy and the fort hood shooter had more in common than first suspected …
    Both were in the military ..Both had military psychological training as a background
    and They both took extreme measures.. just on opposite ends of the spectrum..

    So how come only one is considered a terrorist..?

      SAWBUCK, Yesterday I was thinking that he may have been assigned to 6th Psyop Bn at Bragg, but I now wonder if they let him in that top notch elite unit. He may have been in a military intelligence unit instead. Still have to wonder how they let him stay in the service a full six years since he never advanced beyond the grade of E4. I’ve been retired for over a decade now, but the Army had an “Up or out” policy then. I imagine they still do. I just heard Joe Pags interviewing one of the writers or editors at The Blaze who did mention that he had his problems in the service, but it did some like there was anything violent. His post service time with white supremacy groups did capture the attention of the FBI, but they also reported that they never expected him to become violent.

      I’m glad sickos like this are rare. Thank God this guy was a POG (Personnel Other than Grunt) and not highly trained in combat arms or the death toll could have been much higher for both the Sikhs and the cops. Can you imagine if Page or Hassan had been SF, Ranger, or even an infantryman or combat MP with MOUT training? ( Military Operations in Urban Terrain)

      I’m not trying to minimiize the tragedy of what occurred but I shudder tho think how much more horror could have been unleashed. Some of my old army buddies are downright scary. Good thing they’re sane.

    The muslim officer that shot many soldiers last year is still on trial. His actions were not even listed officially as domestic terrorism. He wasn’t called a racist. His trial is not televised. His shooting escapade was not on the news for long. A white guy who got involved in a neo-Nazi movement finally snaps and shoots some Sikhs ….and…it is automatically domestic terrorism and racism. I feel this guy had enough of living on the edges in his own country while the illegals and the foreigners take his jobs and live like kings. This is no excuse for killing anyone…especially Sikhs; but it shows the complete hopelessness and anger of whites who are discriminated against. If they have no guidance they drift toward hate groups and these are the results.

      Agree that there is a great disparity in the way the Fort Hood case and this one are being handled. This is ONE of the reasons so many people do not respect the Obama DOJ and Holder .

      BARBER2, I am concerned with how the DOJ and DHS are handling these cases too. I do not believe that Wade Michael Page (Gee, another three name killer, imagine that!) committed an act of Domestic Terrorism. His act just not meet the definition of the act. To me, Page‘s act of crime looks more like a Hate Crime on it’s face alone.
      “Section 802 of the USA PATRIOT Act (Pub. L. No. 107-52) expanded the definition of terrorism to cover “”domestic,”" as opposed to international, terrorism. A person engages in domestic terrorism if they do an act ““dangerous to human life”” that is a violation of the criminal laws of a state or the United States, if the act appears to be intended to: (i) intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping. Additionally, the acts have to occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States and if they do not, may be regarded as international terrorism.”

      Don’t buy that “ we may never know” baloney. If there is no explanation for this man attacking this group then I would forever wonder if he hadn’t been set up because he was a noted wacko going through bad times. And that you can BET we’ll never know! However , I am sure that the Mueller‘s FBI will find the cause of Pages’s rage ….the timing will prove interesting.

      Isn’t it time to have an intelligent rational and honest debate on Jewish supremacy in 2011 America?

      Can’t we just have an adult conversation without resulting to the infamous anti-semite nazi name calling?

      Just stick the facts and let’s examine it objectively?

      I’m definitely not a supremacist but I want to examine the facts and understand with a certainty just how this minority attained such power and influence in America over just a few short decades…

      Everyone is talking about it in private but we’re not allowed to speak openly of it… Who was it the Apostle Paul that said “We can’t not speak openly for “fear” of the Jews…” Don’t quote me their but one of the disciples said it.. Could it be the same today in 2011 in America?

      Our Politicians can’t speak openly for “fear”?? Could it be? Was in the Bible afterall.

      Steelehead: Freedom of information allows people to voice their opinions which, obviously, you do not share and , therefore, label as hate. You don’t like the topics chosen. The information here is pretty straight forward. There is much more bias in the actual reporting on NPR and the New York Times in both their choice of topics and in the commenters they appeal to. One attracts conservatives and the other two liberals. Freedom of the press and freedom of speech can be “ difficult ” to experience but it has proven to be the release valve that has enabled America to endure.

But HEAD will continue to lump every every conservative into the same group as a few here who do push the envelope when it comes to aggressive speech aimed at certain ethnic groups, as well as various groups of different persuasions. I put HEAD in the same left wing hate group as ENCINOM, and VERSOFREASON. Just bomb tossers who hit and run.

      termyt: Just don’t understand the symbolism.

      I simply want to have a rational and intelligent discussion on Jewish power and influence in the United States of America in the year 2011. That would include things such as what constitutes power and how much do they actually contain. (Think Media, Federal Reserve, AIPAC) If they do have wield a disproportional amount of power which I certainly believe they do then how did they acquire it. Was it all legal?
      Or maybe you prefer your country being run by Jewish supremacist and you believe that’s the way God intended it and that they are indeed simply supreme and have a right to reign over the earth?

      Regardless of opinion let’s have a discussion? We can all be in the same ball park? ;)

      Don’t know how much precise I could be… Let’s get to the root of all of this hate once and for all.. Let‘s try to understand where it’s coming from so we can deal with it like rational human beings instead of saying or reaching the irrational conclusion that we have to ban the 2nd amendemnt to stop hate.. lol

    Gun control is being waged by many people. A city like Chicago has very restrictive gun policies and that city is literally less safe for Americans than Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

    What happened in Colorado and Wisconsin are tragedies, but prohibition has never worked.

    Interesting profile, but not enough information yet. It‘s a shame that the people he attacked weren’t even carrying the knives they are suppose to carry let alone their swords.
    Once again gun violence was directed towards people without guns. So what’s new.
    Unless I have to, I prefer to only deal with establishments that allow people to exercise their second amendment rights. It’s far safer there, or at least I’ll have a chance to defend myself if I have to,

    No matter what; the admin will milk this for all it is worth for their anti 2nd amendment movement. If the shooter was a Muslim Extremist, then it would not have been classified as ‘domestic terrorism.’ Which brings up the other matter, Mr Obama declared there are no more terrorist events, only man made disasters…so whats up other than political correctness and opportunism.

      There is a large percentage of homosexuals in the fringe right wing and 5th column movements but I doubt if that is the sexual orientation of the majority. The percentage of homosexuals probably doesn’t come that close to 50%
