Here‘s the Video of Santorum Calling ’Bullsh**’ on the NYTimes — and Then Defending It

As we first reported yesterday, Rick Santorum grabbed headlines when he cursed at a New York Times reporter who asked the Republican presidential candidate a question with a distorted quote from a speech he gave in Wisconsin earlier that day. And now video has emerged of the testy encounter:
The question from New York Times reporter Jeff Zeleny that pushed Santorum over the edge was whether it was true that he said, “Mitt Romney is the worst Republican in the country.” Before the question ended Santorum’s head cocked back in disgust.
“What speech did you listen to? Stop lying,” said Santorum has he extended his finger towards the reporters face. Santorum had said at a Saturday evening rally near Racine, “Pick any other Republican in the country. He is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama.”
When questioned by Zeleny, Santorum made clear that his comments about Romney as the “worst Republican in the country” were strictly in regards to campaigning against President Obama on the issue of health care. “Would you guys quit distorting what I’m saying” Santorum fired back at the New York Times reporter. “Quit distorting my words … . If I see it, it’s bullsh**.”
“You sound upset,” Zeleny remarked as Santorum walked away.
“I’m upset when the media distorts what I say, yea I am, I do get upset,” said Santorum, still glaring back at Zeleny while signing autographs. “What are you guys in the business of doing? Reporting the truth…Or are you guys here to try and spin, and make news. Stop it.”
Zeleny appeared on CBS Monday morning where he claimed he was not distorting Santorum’s words.
“No, simply asked for clarification,” Zeleny replied. “He said in his speech to a room full of supporters that he believes Mitt Romney is the worst Republican in the country. Health care was not attached to that sentence in his sound bite there, so simply asking him for clarification. And he did, in fact, explain in full there that health care is what he was talking about.”
Mediaite reports that Santorum’s campaign sent out an email to supporters following the incident, alleging that Zeleny “aggressively attacked him:”
“…while campaigning in Wisconsin, I criticized Romney and Obama for their outrageous healthcare legislation. Predictably, I was aggressively attacked by a New York Times reporter all too ready to defend the two of them, and all too ready to distort my words. Let me assure you, I didn’t back down, and I didn’t let him bully me. I think it is high time that conservatives find the courage to expose the liberal press for what they are, a defender and enabler of Romney’s and Obama’s liberal agendas.”
Santorum appeared on Fox and Friends Monday morning, where he first joked about the incident: “If you haven’t cursed out a New York Times reporter during a course of a campaign, you’re really not really a real Republican.”
“It was just one of these harassing moments, after having to answer the question a few times… he comes back with the same old question, same old spin,” Santorum explained. “I just said ‘ok, I‘ve had enough of this’…. you know what.”

I simply don’t like his demeanor, he is very very defensive and not so presidential. I use to like Rick a lot, but these tirades and character attacks as we wind this down is not going to help us. Mitt is looking more and more like the Nominee and all Rick is doing is making him less and less likely to be able to stand up to Obama. At this juncture, campaign and win on your message, we can’t keep smearing each other, that goes for all candidates.

What exactly did Santorum say that has you saying things like “Good to see that Santorum is committed and steadfast in his Christian faith.”
I can see why you’d sarcastically call him a gentleman. His choice of words to a figure who reports to a national outlet would preclude his gentleness. However, you have absolutely nothing on his Christianity. Please, explain what puts you in a position to dictate who is and isn’t a good Christian.

You’re right to say that homosexuality is abnormal.
See here.
The Meaning of Same-Sex Attraction
http://www.narth.com/docs/niconew.html
(I highly recommend that article.)
But what you’re not realizing is that because we are a Constitutional Republic – and not a theocracy – whenever we accept that the government has such and such a power (such as the power to define marriage), then that power can legally be co-opted by those who disagree with you, when they get into power.
The solution – which is still the Constitutional solution, by the way – is to not allow the government to have a say about it in the first place.
And remember: the whole point of our Constitutional Republic is to have sovereign local governments who have agreed to leave each other alone, but to provide for a very limited number of powers such as national defense and a lawful way to settle disputes between the states.
Marriage, murder (including abortion), etc. are not in the Constitution because the individual states have jurisdiction.

Posted on March 26, 2012 at 4:09pm@A Doctors Labor Is Not My Right, you bring up an interesting point. Government can get out of the marriage business altogether. And with it, it can take the tax breaks and other incentives back from all married couples. And then, heterosexuals and homosexuals will be allowed to visit their partners in the hospital and enjoy the same rights and respects as each other. Of course, hateful bigots like @godlovinmom will never go for that.

Was Rome a nation under God? No. And yet Paul told Christians that God ultimately uses governments to punish evil and reward good (Rom. 13).
As for America, we were founded as a Constitutional Republic, the purpose of which was to secure individual rights – especially against encroachments of government power.
A lot of early Americans were Christians, sure. But in order to protect their rights to worship as they saw fit, they made sure to note that the government didn’t have a right to favor any particular establishment of religion.
If you believe that Christianity is right, then let it stand or fall on its own merits. The same should be said about Muslims, Mormons, the push for recognition of they gay lifestyle as normal, etc.

Inherent to the definition of a “republican form of government”, which our Constitution says that the national government must guarantee, is the sovereignty of local governments (not to mention the Declaration of Independence acknowledges that all men are created equal).
Consider what our Founders said about religious factions.
See here.
Federalist Papers #10
http://constitution.org/fed/federa10.htm
“The influence of factious leaders may kindle a flame within their particular States, but will be unable to spread a general conflagration through the other States. A religious sect may degenerate into a political faction in a part of the Confederacy; but the variety of sects dispersed over the entire face of it must secure the national councils against any danger from that source. A rage for paper money, for an abolition of debts, for an equal division of property, or for any other improper or wicked project, will be less apt to pervade the whole body of the Union than a particular member of it; in the same proportion as such a malady is more likely to taint a particular county or district, than an entire State.”

That would be like me saying, “Peyton Manning is the worst quarterback in the league to go up against Jared Allen.” Then you spin it and say that I said “Peyton Manning is the worst quarterback in the league.” The words surrounding the quote make the meaning extremely different and if a journalist chooses to omit words from a quote, he either is ignorant to the fact that he got the quote wrong, or he is intentionally omitting words to change the meaning of the quote. Either way the commonality of it all is an idiot lefty journalist.

“I get it…what I don‘t get is the fact that in today’s America…the only ones who don’t get “special rights” are christians…wouldn’t you agree.”
The reason that’s the way the government is right now is BECAUSE of government involvement in these things.
You have Christians wanting states – and ideally, in their minds, the national government – to defend the definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman. But when someone who disagrees with them uses the same power, they don’t like it.
Marriage isn’t even a civil institution, but a religious one. One’s marriage exists whether the government recognizes it, or not.
Get the government out of the way, let the homosexuals define marriage however they want, and just refuse to live around them as best as possible in a country that’s supposed to be free. Yes, you may end up with pockets of gays, such as in San Francisco – don’t go there, and don’t bring your kids there, if you don’t want to have to be pretty much guaranteed to see that behavior.
Or, better yet, SINCE everybody has the right to behave, believe, and say what they want, go there and say that they are misrepresenting gender identities and show them that article, because you’re not violating THEIR rights with YOUR behavior, right?
Good luck getting a discussion about gender identities out of them, though.

Santorum is exactly what we need. We need someone with a spine who will stand against all the lies and the gotcha crap the Media is throwing out. I like that he will say what he means and doesn’t hold back. Sure don‘t want a milk toast candidate up against Obama who will say anything to appease everyone and doesn’t speak out against all the hypocrisy. We don’t need someone who just appears Presidential and has no substance, no fight. Give us someone with guts, someone who will stand for the people. The Media is telling you it is over for Rick and to believe them is exactly what they want and you are drinking their Kool Aid. Good for Rick. After hearing all of Romney’s latest flip flops, Santorum has my vote.

Not sure if you were watching the same news clip, but expressing your fraustration with the lies that the mainstream media is telling day in and day out is fine by me. I’m tired of having someone such as Romney put on a pedestal and acting like a puppet and telling the people what they think they want to hear. I’m not saying Santorum is perfect, but to me he is the best candidate running. He stands up for the truth and has soild morals and values. People are acting like he attacked the reporter. He simply said this was B.S. and he’s tired of the lies and them twisting what he is saying.

Posted on March 26, 2012 at 1:26pmTodd, wanted to add that it possibly could be argued that Mitt is ineligible. His dad was born in Mexico. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/08/mitt-romney-mexican_n_1192694.html
The problem with that is he could claim dual citizenship. This is exactly what the founders did not want. They wanted presidents who were totally loyal to this country. Is Mitt totally loyal to the U.S.? It is hard to say, do we really want to take that big of a risk with our president?
“…This is apparent from the Constitution itself, for it provides6 that ‘no person except a natural-born citizen, or a citizen of the United States at the time of the adoption of the Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President…“ ”…The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners.” MINOR v. HAPPERSETT, 88 U.S. 162 (1874)
The key phrase is “…born in a country of parents who were its citizens…” This wording says both parents must be citizens in order to be a natuaral-born citizen.

Nope, I made the case for Santorum.
I have no idea what Romney stands for, or against anymore, and if you think he can beat Obama when the Democrats have all the ammuntion they need to show him as a moderate, progressive flipflopper, think again. They are going to make him look like even HE doesn’t know what he believes. He may be a nice man but nice is not going to put him in the WH. Posted on March 26, 2012 at 3:31pmAs a woman from Massachusetts, where Mitt Romney was governor I can tell you he will be not much better than Obama. He is a progressive with an R in front of his name. MA is one of the most over regulated high cost states to live in, and many of the policies that led to that were established while Romney was governor, including Romneycare (which is where many of the ideas for Obamacare came from). Also Mitt Romney lies!! He is not consistent his actions do not match his words!! He tells people what they want to hear for the sake of being “political” and getting votes!! The last thing we need is to have a president who talks nice and is “presidential”. We need someone who is going to be honest and transparent and not try and sugar coat everything and make it sound appealing… we’ve had enough of that. That is how we ended up with Obama. Santorum should have refrained from swearing… but at least the man is speaking his mind, he is human not a robot.., we’ve come to expect presidents to be so eloquent that people are falling for campaign slogans and pretty speech over real political issues dealt with by real men with flaws and all. I say enough of the plastic, robotic presidents, bring on the real people without all the political correctness!!

Ah, I see you’ve been getting your news from MSNBC…… Well, that argument doesn’t wash. The standard applied to Barrak Husein Obama is that he be born in the USA (which is still debatable). Everyone knows his father was born in Kenya – but no one in authority cares. As for Romney & Rubio, they were born in the USA – just like Obama.
Maybe you could take that argument to CNN – I hear they like a good news story. You could tell them all about it…. maybe be a star on Anderson 360…… You could even quote MSNBC, since they were the ones who first came out with that theory.

He did NOT include ‘…on the issure of health care’ in his statement that “Romney is the worst Repbulican in the country to put up against Barack Obama”. But just minutes later he lies: when asked by a reporter to clarify the statement, he says he DID mean/say ‘worst because of health care”‘, he makes a big angry show, and swears at the reporter. Watch the video, and you will see that the reporter’s tone was civil and low-key. I am no fan of the New York Times, but no matter what news organization’s reporter was questioning Santorum, the profanity was definitely uncalled for and out of place. See what you think, and be sure to note that Santorum is doing this with his 14 year old daughter right next to him (watch her face). Posted on March 26, 2012 at 12:20pmPerhaps, it was a freudian slip? Both the truth is Romney is Obama light with his progressive healthcare program and excuses for compromising because the state of Massachuettes is so liberal (remember when he was up against Rick Perry) Yeah, poor little lonely Mitt in MA but wait couldn’t he have mored to CA, UT, MI, or any of the other states he owns homes in to be in politics. With his tremendous resume and business success couldn‘t he have found a nice conservative state or is the truth the true conservatives wouldn’t have had him. He succeeded in liberal, progressive MA because he is LP-light just like decaffinated coffee is still from coffee beans. So, in a time, when we need truly cost-cutting, conservative and constitutional leadership, Mitt Romney, might just be the worst Republican candidate to go up against Obama.
As far as his daughter hearing the exchange, she looked pretty proud of her dad standing up to the weasely reporter.

You weren’t my first pick Rick, but I did pull the lever for you and so did my state. You keep going and don’t listen to the so called party unity crude. I‘m tired of folk saying it’s impossible for a Conservative to win. That sentiment gave us John McCain as a candidate the last time. Once shame on you; twice shame on me (or us). It’s up the the Republican voters to make their choice, but please don’t do so because you think Romney is the only one that can beat Obama since that thought is false. Romney‘s one of the only candidates that can’t even run against BO for the healthcare morass. BO will make a pretzel out of what’s left of Romney since the guy has no spine.
