Here’s What You Need to Know About the Muppets Severing Ties With Chick-fil-A Over Gay Marriage

Jim Henson Company Severs Ties With Chick Fil A Over Gay Marriage | MuppetsThe fallout from Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy’s comments supporting traditional marriage last week only seems to be intensifying. The Jim Henson Company, a popular children’s entertainment group, is taking a strong stance against the fast food chain. Rather than holding on to monies gained from a partnership that was struck with Chick-fil-A, The Jim Henson company is donating earnings to the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).

This morning, TheBlaze blog covered the issue (which was first mentioned on TheBlaze yesterday), with Eddie Scarry discussing the strong stance that the company is taking against the restaurant chain. As Scarry reported, “Both companies were in the middle of a promo deal in which Muppet toys were included in Chick-fil-A children’s meals.” This most recent decision will, quite obviously, end this deal.

The Jim Henson Company made the startling funding announcement on July 20 on its Facebook page, clearly showcasing its urge to highly publicize the decision.

“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors,” the social media message read. “Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-fil-A to GLAAD.”

The announcement brought in more than 10,300 “likes” and it was shared nearly 5,200 times. Not everyone, though, supported The Jim Henson Company’s decision, as evidenced in the above image of the company’s Facebook page. The company also reiterated its wish to cut off all ties with Chick-fil-A, claiming that any and all partnerships are now off the table.

While the fast-food chain is Christian-based and clearly defines marriage in traditional terms, it has reiterated its urge to ”leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.”

Perhaps CFA should start offering fried frog legs on the menu?
Seriously, this is a restaurant that took a stance in support of traditional marriage. It didn’t condemn anything, just supported. For that it is mocked and boycotted? I will eat there more now, and I am not going to be lectured to by some green frog with someone’s hand up his green frog rear. Bye bye, Kermie. And Miss Piggy, we’ll be having pork chops tonight.

Isn’t it the same thing that Walt Disney and the Muppets are doing? One could easily argue that they’re supporting non-traditional marriage, not condemning traditional marriage. And yet you yourself seem to be mocking and boycotting the Muppets now, which you just decried against Chick-Fil-A?

I really can’t express how stupid this is. It is just another “We are gay, We are here, deal with it.” Why is it that most of these people are so angry about being the way they are. I don’t care what you do behind doors but I will be damned and found dead before I support any human attempting to corrupt my children. I wonder when it became wrong to disagree or even more so to HATE something. If I want to hate gays it is my choice just as spitting on your species is theirs. It isn’t a genetic fault it is a choice. I have taught my children that being gay is horribly wrong and will continue to do so for our species. I have never bought anything Muppet and shall never do so. I am glad for CFA. I will eat there more for sure.

      Follow the Muppet Pawprints-
      ABC/Disney owns the Muppets.

That explains everything one needs to know-
      Poor Muppets…towing the liberal line.

Remember the last Disney Muppet film…the script had the cuddly ones
fighting an “Evil Oilman”, it bombed at the box office.
The public was outraged at the way ABC/Disney has pimped and politicized
      the endearing characters.

Henson’s “Sesame Street” characters are tied in with PBS.
Either one, either way…..they’ve ruined them.
All they ever should have been…was sweet & simple entertainment.

      ABC/Disney’s Muppets or CFA…….the pickin’ is easy-peasy ~

I will now endeavor to eliminate all public funding to them. Simple enough. We can all go our separate ways.

Is that why all the times in the last week I‘ve been to CFA that they didn’t have toys to market to my daughter? She didn’t care one bit. I prefer when they give her an educational book instead of some kind of marketing gimmick anyway.

Chic-Fil-A doesnt have a thing to worry about. However, if you are a Parent of a Child that watches the Liberal Marxist Muppet Show – STOP LETTING THEM! How many clues do you need. The Boy Scout’s today, are a training ground for young Boys to except Homosexual advances by Pedophiles. The Girls Scouts are a training ground to help young girls except the change of age of consent to 9 years old.

Pick up any book on Communism – it states that you demonize every thing you can that is “Right” about America and do it right under the Parents of Children’s noses.

When Communism comes to America in the next year or so – I will be taken in the first round and will watch from the Balconies of Heaven as your children curse you as a parent for letting this happen to them.

Now run and go let little Johnny watch the Muppet’s while I eat my Chic-fil-a.

I watched the Muppets when I was a child. I thought it was interesting. So I watched it again as an adult and realized how lame it was. For adults to use puppets as tools of manipulation is quite disturbing. I am so gratified whe I see my children laugh at how lame kermit or miss piggy are on their own. They know at their young age that puppets are manipulated by adults hiding behind them. They comment on how dumb it would be to have a job sticking your hand into a puppet and talking. Pretty much sums it up.

I admire the owner for his religious convictions, particularly keeping Chick-fil-A closed on Sundays. The business has to cover overhead on Sundays as with every other day and the fact that he’s willing to forgo revenue on those days says his convictions speak louder to him than profit. As a liberal I wish there were more people in the highest levels of business who placed their own morality higher than profits and shareholder”s desire for profits.

And the guy is certainly entitled to share his opinions. Frankly I imagine he spoke out because somebody looked in the company’s stockholder disclosures (whatever that’s called) and found the company is donating millions to organizations who have as their main goal fighting marriage equality and benefits for same sex partners, such as Marriage & Family Foundation. You can google it but I‘m sure you’ll agree with whatever they say. And that’s fine.

The Muppets on the other hand is a children’s show that cultivated acceptance of people of other colors, national origins, and religions. One purpose they have, besides teaching the alphabet, is to teach children to judge people based on the content of their character (to borrow a phrase) rather than other superficial characterists. The world would be better off if we all did this in my opinion.

So Chick-fil-A doesn’t like gays based on a religion. So the Muppets want to promote tolerance of others. They disagree.

JZS, Can agree with you early in you post, then you start to stretch to the point that you are either hoping or assuming that their are obvious misdeeds within the organization. Wow, all of this because the CEO expresses that they believe in traditional family values. Nobody within the organization has even remotely suggested the persecution of gays, refuse to serve gays, or in any way to treat gays any differently than any other emplyee, or customer. Yet, ENCINOM has spun this to mean “HATE!!!!!!” and it seems that you are giving it a stretch to hate as well. JZS, surely you are smarter than that.

I have always loved CFA chicken. I love it even more now. I have had friends tell me not to eat there because of their bigotry. I make up my own mind and I stand with God, CFA and the belief in a one man-one woman marriage.

BTW, I never had frog legs but I hear that they taste like chicken. Add the pulled pork sandwiches, too.

Yes of course LOCKED..rather…Disney and Henson are just condemning those that choose to utter even one syllable that goes against the promotion of homosexual marriage.
Where Chick Fil A made a point of saying they’ll not discriminate against customers (please read their original statement)- all are welcome to their stores….Henson chooses to condemn one of it’s prospective business partners owners for not endorsing homosexual marriage. So no LOCKED..it’s not nearly as even handed as you attempt to mince words with…again.

Yea! You said it. They didn‘t say they didn’t like gays, they simply stated they believed in traditional marriages. (man and woman). Why is it so important that gays get honored everywhere they go. I believe in compassion without compromise.. They can do their “thing”, but we don’t have to compromise the way we feel.

I used the restaurant finder on the Chic-filet-A site and emailed two friends. One of them responded promptly and said they would eat there if they could get near the place. Apparently, the line of cars was out of the parking lot and part way around the block.

Very sad that in supporting something wholesome, traditional, that liberals always interpret that to mean that you therefore hate and stand against them. Sorry but they (liberals) are not God. God can say in scriptures that “if you are not with me then you are against me” which is what the liberals believe they are and therefore can require or demand the same of other people. If you disagree then you are (resulting to playground name calling and bullying) a hater and racist or whatever. Racism itself is highly misused. Ask Boortz to explain it and he will go off. Prejudice and bigotry are the more appropriate terms for what these so called intellectual elite liberals who are so much smarter than conservatives should be using instead. By the way it is not prejudice if there is some record of behavior upon which a judgement is made regarding a specific person. If a judgement is made about an entire race of humanity based on the actions of a few then you are prejudgin the whole race but properly making observations on the few miscreants based on their previous actions. Generalizations get folk in a lot of trouble with these kinds of matters.

Chick Fil A has always been a pillar and terrific example of a business with morals… no need to attack people who tried everything they could with their first marriage where it takes 2 to make it work. The Bible also says that husband and wife must be “equally yoked” and if they are not then the man can send her on her way (divorce)

As fo Henson, they have hijacked Jim‘s legacy just like Walt Disney’s legacy was and their history rewritten by progressives. He may have been a hippie to an extent but did a lot of good things during his life for kids. Since his death, the Henson company resembles his life as much as Sam Walton’s kids have made Wal-Mart resembe the Wal-Mart corporation under the direction of his spoiled children. Sure miss the pride of everything there made in America only to be completely sold out to China now losing business ethic and commitment to the American people.

Anyway, Henson is making a huge mistake but it is probably getting marching orders from Disney. The place is infested with sellouts to the human race.

If it’s not controversial for a company to publicly give millions of dollars to traditional marriage groups, why would is be controversial for for another company to publicly give money to gay marriage groups? Both companies are using the debate as PR.

Frankly, I’d prefer if they both just stopped mixing politics into their advertising. I‘ll enjoy my cheap chicken sandwiches while watching Muppet Show reruns a lot more if both companies just stuck to what they’re good at instead of throwing their political views in my face.

“Not intimately, but enough to know that they DO support traditional marriage and Christian values. I’m as cynical as the next guy, but they are doing and saying what they believe in, not trying to gin up sales.”

I’m totally fine with the family supporting traditional marriage, and Chick-Fil-A has always been known as a Christian company. But that’s the thing: they’re known as a Christian company… it’s their brand identity. Otherwise they’d be another wanna-be KFC with nothing to differentiate them. And with that identity comes their actions that support it. It’s not the family giving money to these causes; it’s the company itself.

That‘s why I don’t see it as controversial for the Muppets to do the same. If Chick-Fil-A is a Christian company that believes in traditional marriage, and that’s not controversial, then it’s equally uncontroversial for Walt Disney to use their beliefs for advertising as well, right?

Eh, I don’t think so. Gay marriage has been a political issue since the mid-90s. It’s ramped up since then, but I would argue that’s because of a lot of factors, including several states legalizing it. Obama’s “evolving position” of gay marriage I see as a symptom of the overall change, not the cause.

And as it relates to the specific topic at hand (Muppets and Chick-Fil-A), I don’t think Obama has hardly any influence at all.

make a spectacle of their deviant behavior, Chick-Fil-A has every right to express their opposition to gay marriage. If you don’t like that and choose to boycott them, that is your right too. Just quit your whining and move on…

@ Locked – the radicals that are homosexuals will not let anything die until we all agree with and celebrate their perversion. We as a nation have our problems, accepting and legalizing such blatant immorality is not yet one of them. I think it is called a bridge too far

I find it more than painfully ironic, that the main argument has been “stay out of my bedroom” yet the homosexuals don’t seem content to keep the perversion in their bedrooms but want to parade around, demanding affirmation.

Its not the support of traditional marriage that is the issue, it is the blatant, bible based bigotry of the Christians that is the problem. To many so called Christians seek to impose their morals on others, as if their book of myths which supports honor killing, slavery, genocide and a host of immoral acts is a greater source of morality than others. To many Christians forget that as Americans we have the right to rejected the outdated superstitions and live our lives according to out own set of morality.

@ Encinom – Wait. Wha…Please tell me this statement if rife with sarcasm. I have yet to come across any non-written media that states that Mr. Cathy said more than, “We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit…” How does that come to mean that he wishes to impose his beliefs or morals on anyone? He didn’t say, “Our policy is to ask every employee and customer, ‘What is your religious background?’, and deny them a job or service if we find his/her answer to be unsatisfactory.” Again, all he stated was that he believed in something and stands by his beliefs. Also I can‘t help but wonder what Bible you’ve ever picked up and read (even as a fictional book), if any at all…One of the biggest lessons from this book as a whole is IT’S A CHOICE!!! A choice YOU have to make for yourself!

There’s NOTHING controversial about traditional marriage..NOTHING. In fact..it’s the best foundation for perpetuating our species and raising children.
Look at the whole “war on women” debacle…Fluke demands free contraceptives..and all of a sudden the left twists it into “women’s rights” to make it sound noble and worthy. These are the games the left plays. The sooner we take that tool away from the left, the sooner we can begin to have an honest discussion of the issues including just how “normal” homosexuality is. When less than 2% of the population comprises over 55% of new cases of HIV every year in this country..“normal” or “inclusive” isn‘t the word I’d use to describe homsexuals.

They are becoming more popular every day and may eventually eclipse KFC. It‘s amazing they’re this successful without being open on Sundays I wonder how that’s possible. :) I love everything about Chick-fil-A! Kudos to Mr. Cathy for voicing his support of traditional marriage. He has every right, and I hope all the naysayers boycott so there will be more chicken for ME!!! I’ll be eating dinner there tonight. Don‘t worry if you don’t have a Chick-fil-A near you. I have a feeling you will have one close by in the near future!

“Guess I’ll throw away my Bert and Ernie dolls.”

Kind of a dumb idea, as Sesame Street is owned by Sesame Workshop, not Walt Disney (which owns the Muppets).

The Muppets have gone left wing every since Jim Henson died. I don’t know what his politics were but he kept it out of the Muppets. I loved the Muppets being a small child in the 70‘s and early 80’s. It pains me to have to cut them loose.

A frog in a relationship with a pig–wow! that’s pretty strange and un-natural. I guess we should have seen it coming from the Muppets Organization–support for gay marriage, also strange and un-natural. Can’t our kids have an innocent and NORMAL childhood anymore?

Seriously, even the Muppets have become politicized. And the left says they are “tired” of Christians pushing their moral principles onto our country.

My kids grew up with the Muppets and Seseme Street before they became a teaching arm of the socialist/liberal, godless left. It is a crying shame what they have turned into.

Mr. Cathy, you are being tested but God always rewards His own and He will punish the wicked. Stand strong. Lucifer would love to see you brought low but God will stand firmly in your corner if you just keep your faith and Stand Your Ground.

Comrades, isn’t there something very wrong with the concept that queer muppets are teaching your children? Perhaps the people that need to be brought back to reality is the Henson Company! To much New York Liberal insanity, must be in their drinking water!

@Antitheist – Please don’t make unsubstanstiated statements. I’m tired of having this immorality constantly being forced upon my family and me. We have every right to our opinion and to live our lives free of tyrany. Everyone is so easily offended. I would suggest that you practice what you preach – tolerance. The rights of those who believe and think differently than you do

Liberals are scared to death of conservative Muslim men. The only thing they fear as much or more is Sarah Palin or Herman Cain as president.

Even educated, doctoral-level feminist radicals would date, marry and be a third wife who washes dishes, cleans the house, has no male friends and stays indoors in the name of political correctness and in order to not offend a Muslim male.

” Why dont the gays condemn and boycott everything Muslim?”

Think about it logically. Muslims make up .8% of the US population. Christians make up 77%. If you’re going to condemn, say, superstores, do you go primarily after Target, or Wal-mart (which is more than 6 times larger than Target)?

Christianity is the biggest target, and Christians undoubtedly hold the most power in our country. Is it really that difficult to imagine why Christianity is the target most often?

I just wonder how many more years it will take for a Sharia court in America to order the execution of a homosexual. Perhaps then they will understand the folly of their ways, but I suspect it will be too late.
