2012 GOP candidate Herman Cain was a guest on The Steve Gill Show today and the conversation included many topics, but we thought Blaze readers might appreciate Mr. Cain’s take on the Debt Ceiling crisis and why it even happened.

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.”
When Obama took office the national debt was $10.6 Trillion. He and the pile of Democrap majority in the House and Senate added almost $4 Trillion to our deficit right up to our debt ceiling. If it wasn‘t for their out of control spending we wouldn’t be having this debate. George Bush was bad enough and he added $4.6 Trillion to our national debt in 8 years, Obama did than in 2/3 years. You would have to be insane to vote another 4 years of Obamanomics.

Posted on July 15, 2011 at 7:15amHerman is exactly what we need right now! As for his experience with the Fed, it means he gets them and understands that as much as we would like the Fed to go away now, it won’t. And, just like any good CEO, he will appoint people to his cabinet who know how to manage their “departments”. I am sure any areas he may be weak on will have an expert to handle the nuts and bolts of that position, i.e. Sec of State. A good President does NOT have to micro-manage….

Report Post »yes Herman Cain was on the Advisory Board to the KC FED – the MOST conservative monetary policy branch of the FED…during the mid 1990′s…a time when the national debt was less than HALF of what it is now, and the FED was actually doing its’ job, monitoring and controlling inflation. I doubt Mr. Cain knew anything about the 3.5 Trillion in loans to foreign banks (seeing as that all happened in the last 5 years) …everyone on that board attest to Mr. Cain’s EXCELLENT judgement on monetary policy, his clear thinking, and logical solution driven opinions.
Mr. Cain was not the Chairman of the FED…there is only one Chairman, he is based in DC. He was chairman of the Advisory Board to the KC FED branch President. Sort of like a Chairman of the Board of Directors and a CEO…one meets from time to time to oversee the CEO’s decisions but does not have an influence on those decisions…Mr. Cain NEVER set policy, he advised the man that voted with the other FED Presidents and the FED Chair in making policy, and that man voted for a more conservative monetary policy, not a Keynesian model like we have now.
Listen to his decisions, policies, opinions, and judge him by his character, not an appointment that he accepted because he was a SUCCESSFUL business manager and executive for multiple NATIONAL businesses.

HELL NO.
obama CAUSED IT!!
Without obamacare we wouldn’t be in a debt crisis!
obama INCREASED federal employee salaries by giving them a QUADRUPLE RAISE when he came into office – REMEMBER?
He has spent like no other president in HISTORY!
obama didn’t “ALLOW” it, he CAUSED it!!
Irresponsible spending is the cause, and obama has been the most irresponsible spend-thrift president in U.S. HISTORY!

Posted on July 14, 2011 at 10:17pmHow refreshing to here a real solution to the debt situation. He’s absolutely correct! This is the difference, he not a polititian he’s a businessman, and he knows how to get things done he has no agenda other then to do the right things to move the country forward. The biggest problem inside the beltway is those who work there. These so called leaders aren’t leaders, their yes men and women they’re owned by their big donors and they might talk a big game but once they get inside the beltway all bets are off. Hopefully a man like Herman Cain won’t let that happen to him.

That elevation of sentiment inspired by such a government, makes the common people brave and enterprising. That ambition which is inspired by it makes them sober, industrious, and frugal.

Posted on July 14, 2011 at 10:11pmWe need Cain and West; or ones like them. While indeed we may have fallen so far, I feel the basic material for all Americans to be brave and strong in any challenge is still there. There will always be some who will fail in the testing to come, some who will rise strong and bright in the trials of fire and mayhem, and most will be true to themselves and this land of ours.
We have for the most part forgotten how to do this; we are now awakening and relearning how, along with discovering once again how to dare to dream, and how to strive against the night.
The storm is here, and now is the time to stand; for the watchmen are giving the final warning. Will we heed it or go into the night alone?

Posted on July 14, 2011 at 10:09pmBrilliant knee-jerk assumption. Study the “Laffer Curve” and you might get an idea how income tax works. That’s in Economics 101 (the kind that doesn’t praise Keynes all the time). You can also look at http://www.heritage.org/budgetchartbook/income-tax-receipts and see that income tax rate does not necessarily equate to income tax receipts.
Clinton’s “balancing” act was purely based upon him looting Social Security. Social Security made a profit. Instead of setting that money aside as an investment (as advertised), the money was used to pay for more spending.

Posted on July 14, 2011 at 10:10pmSo you are saying that Mr. Obama has been absolutely 100% ineffective? That nothing he has done/not done hasn’t made a bit of difference. We could have done without a President during his tenure. All of the trillions in new debt & deficit caused as a direct result of NEW programs and NEW spending have appeared as if by magic. The White House, the Senate and the House were firmly in the control of the Democrats. But it is Bush’s fault still?
When will Mr. Obama have any responsibility in national affairs? Or is he so meaningless that we should reset numbering our presidents as to omit his time in the Oval Office?
As it happens Mr. Obama has run up more debt than ALL previous presidents COMBINED! He was going to cut the deficit in half his first term. Not. He was going to end both wars. NOT (He started a third just for the bump in polling or just for the hell of it – I’m not sure which.) Gitmo closed? No. On & on & on……

Posted on July 15, 2011 at 2:57amYou do realize that this will cause the interest rates we have to pay foreign countries (or whomever buys our treasuries) go up don’t you. Most of the treasuries are relatively short term (ie: Not 30 yr) so the rollover of these are coming pretty soon for a large portion and when we have to take on more debt it will be at a higher interest rate. So, it could create a downward spiral. Yes, the difference in the credit rating certainly does make a difference in the future cost of the debt the US will have to take on. The Fed is keeping the interest rates artificially low (as Ron Paul articulates) and this could really wreck havoc when interest rates start to rise. With all the money being printed it is inevitable that this will occur. The Fed can’t keep the interest rates artificially low forever when the free market knows better and demands a higher rate.

Note to Congress from employer. No deals. Raise the debt ceiling, lose your job!
They are not talking about real cuts or decreased debt. They are pretending to fight about a minor decrease in continued self destructive massive spending increases over 10 years!
Rather than dazzling us with brilliance by balancing our national checkbook, they think it’s funny to baffle us with BS and continue running up insurmountable debt. Don’t allow this!
Congress must end wasteful spending, reduce the debt and balance the budget using real numbers rather than fuzzy math and corrupt accounting tricks that are illegal in the private sector!
Register to vote! Make calls, write letters, inform them that voters will fire every politician who refuses to manage our finances properly, beginning with abiding by the 10th amendment. When all else fails, just obey the Constitution! It’s our first, best, last, and now our only remaining hope!
One day soon the credit card bill will arrive in the mail. The red ink must not become blood spilled in battles brought by war with our communist creditors!
Boehner and Obama are running a well practiced political shell game! You’re being conned! Don’t be a sucker, stop playing their game!

Posted on July 14, 2011 at 9:35pmThis is the whole problem with politics. They want to get re-elected the next time they come up for election. They are scared of looking bad. That’s why we need term limits on any office. Whether it is a governor, congressman, congresswoman, senator, or a sheriff. Also if the elected official isn’t doing what we want them to do. We can get them impeached within six months. Not two to three years that it takes now. Watch what the other hand is doing. This is to take us in a different direction to keep us disoriented and confused on what’s happening.

If a citizen is placed into office via election and does a good enough job to satisfy those who put him or her there, so be it. Running up against some mandate that would remove the good along with the bad reminds me of the baby and the bath water analogy.
Be responsible, know your role in the process and perform at your best to execute the responsibilities charged to you the voter. That’s all the “term limit” we need – thanks.
