Former first lady Nancy Reagan had a scary stumble Tuesday night while walking into an event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif.
As recounted by the Los Angeles Times, Mrs. Reagan was walking slowly down the aisle to a standing ovation when she seemed to lurch to her right, her cane slipping on the floor, and appeared to be heading for a hard landing.
Luckily, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who was escorting her, acted quickly and secured the 90-year-old’s arm, bracing his legs to support her as she swung into him.
As people in the audience gasped, Secret Service and other crowd members quickly rushed over to help. According to the Times, she appeared to be uninjured and took her seat.
In 2008, Mrs. Reagan suffered a fall that resulted in a fractured pelvis and required hospitalization.
Rubio, a Republican freshman senator and Tea Party favorite, was at the library to speak as part of the library’s prestigious speaker series.

Geeezz! You people are the worse! First off, my comment was in response to those that believe this incident puts Rubio over the top for being a presidential candidate! Second, the tea party doesn’t have enough power to destroy anything but brain cells! Third, I never said anything about the tea party on a whole destroying Medicare, I said RUBIO, specifically called for cuts to Medicare!
Lastly, he caught a woman who was already holding onto his arm. He’s not a hero. Geez!
Tea-idiots don’t need to respond to a specific comment when they can make up a response to something never mentioned! Unreal!!

Report Post »DarthMims
Posted on August 24, 2011 at 11:58amNo offense to Santramir, but I had to address some of the people who left replies to your comment. Everyone needs to read what the law defines as a natural born citizen. You can be born anywhere in the world, as long as one parent is an American citizen, that makes you an American citizen. I thought all of this had been cleared up with Obama, and now people want to bring it up about Rubio?

Your definition of an American Citizen is correct. One parent who is an American, but you have to be born either in America, or on American soil, like a military base or Embassy. Natural born Citizen is different and only mentioned in qualifications for President. it means both parents were citizens. I just looked up Rubio, who’s parents (both) were Cuban exiles. That disqualifies him, as good as he is. The only time the natural born citizen was waived for presidency (except for this administration) was for those who were in the United States when the constitution was written, which would make it really hard to have both parents American citizens.

Report Post »DarthMims
Posted on August 25, 2011 at 8:17am@loriann12
Report Post »Look up and read the INA Section 301 (g) and it gives you the definition of “natural-born citizen.“ This criteria has been used to define natural born citizen for years through the ”jus-sanguinis” (by blood) definition. Since Rubio was born in Miami to naturalized citizens that lived in the country for the required number of years, he is by this definition a natural-born United States citizen. He could have been born anywhere in the world, not just in U.S. territories or on military bases and he would still be a natural born United States citizen because his parents were citizens. Frustrating, I know, but it is what the law says.
loriann12
Posted on August 25, 2011 at 9:37am@DarthMims
OK, I can see your reasoning. By definition his parents were citizens. It doesn’t state that your parents have to be natural born citizens, just citizens. That would still leave out Obama, because his father was born in Kenya. Unless the reason they don‘t want to release his real birth certificate is because that’s not his real father, and his real father was a citizen. Who knows? I don’t know enough about Rubio to make a judgement on whether he would make a good president or not. Personally, I like Paul Ryan, but he’s not running.
Report Post »DarthMims
Posted on August 25, 2011 at 11:44am@loriann12
Report Post »Actually, it does apply to Obama because if you read Section 301(g) closely, only one parent has to be a citizen. This was the reason why you never saw McCain, Boehner, or any of the established politicians questioning the birth certificate. They know the law and knew that the birth certificate didn’t matter. As for Rubio, the overriding factor in him being a natural-born citizen is that he was actually born in the United States, the old “jus soli” (by soil) definition.

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 10:42amI truely believe that the only thing that stands in our way of taking back complete and total control of this government is what I’m faintly (for now…) seeing here…. cannabalism… “my guy/girl is better than yours”… Face it folks, aside from the couple RINO’s (that WILL be weeded out), we’ve got a really great bunch of Constitutional Conservative candidates running… one WILL win. If we can just keep it civil and not stoop down to the level of the liberal progressives that are ruining this GREAT Country/economy….

Yep, you got that right. I’m often thinking as I read all these posts supporting one person, what are you going to do if you‘re candidate doesn’t make the nomination? Vote for Obama? Abstain from voting at all? That would be the same as voting for Obama. Or eat your words against the other candidates, hold your nose and vote for them anyway?

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 10:25amIneligible? Where was Rubio born? Miami, FL. How old is he? 40. POTUS age min. is 35. I think he’ll be eligible once he completes a term as Senator. Bam DIDN”T COMPLETE ONE TERM AS THE SUPPOSED SENATOR FROM ILLINOIS. Rubio, has the class to do that, at least.

Report Post »Obama would have kept walking. Remember he left his friend Louis Gates Jr. to hobble down steps with a cane after the famous beer summit with Sgt. James Crowley while Obama totally ignored Gates Jr. The arresting officer, Sgt. James Crowley, the one Obama said “acted stupidly”, had to HELP gates down the steps.

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 10:34amNWalters, he was born in Miami to Cuban exiles. His parents were not US citizens.
Not that the whole citizenship thingy stopped Obambam or anything……

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 10:52amwhy would his parents have to have been citizens in order for him to be a natural born one?

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 11:16amBecause the definition of natural born citizen is born to to parents who are US citizens, the founding fathers didn’t want presidents with split allegiances to be president, and is why they set a deadline that all presidents after that date had to be natural born.

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 3:01pmBiohazard, here’s the text of the US Constitution, in Article II- “No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of This Constitution shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that OFfice who shall not have attained 35 years of age, and been 14 years a resident within the United States….” Let’s see, born in Miami, which is part of the USA, check. Parents, NOT MENTIONED in there, jacka$$. 14 years a resident. Rubio’s 40….so that cuts that….and the age minimum. Nice try, liar.
