‘He’s a Disaster’: Chris Christie Slams Illinois Governor

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie said Friday that he’s not worried about businesses leaving for Illinois because Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is “a disaster.”

Hes a Disaster: Chris Christie Slams Illinois Governor

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, R

Christie‘s comments come as ads are set to appear in three New Jersey business publications on Monday criticizing the state’s business climate. They were paid for by the advocacy group For a Better Chicago and are in retaliation for an ad campaign Christie launched to encourage businesses in Illinois to relocate to New Jersey.

“Let me tell you something: We won‘t lose any business to Illinois as long as Pat Quinn’s the governor,” Christie, a Republican, said during a news conference Thursday. “He’s a disaster.”

The Chicago group said it’s taking out the ads to set the record straight on which state has the best business climate.

“We understand that governors have to be cheerleaders for their states, but the claims Gov. Christie is making are so far from the truth,” said Jake Braun, For a Better Chicago spokesman.

The Chicago ads, which say “Rhetoric is nice, reality matters,” focus on New Jersey’s high property taxes and cost of living.

Christie launched his campaign after Quinn, a Democrat, raised personal income taxes to 5 percent from 3 percent and corporate business taxes to 9.5 percent from 7.3 percent to help balance his budget.

In print and radio ads, Christie reiterated his commitment not to raise taxes. Christie also took a trip last month to Chicago to meet with business leaders.

Quinn spokeswoman Brie Callahan said Quinn has more important things to do than worry about Christie.

“Instead of making personal attacks on other governors, Gov. Quinn is focused on getting our state’s fiscal house in order and continuing to make Illinois an even stronger economic competitor,” she said.

    Christie is 100% right. Our little weasel of a governor even welched out on a public bet he made with Wicsonsin governor Scott Walker during the NFL playoff game where the Bears lost to the Packers. Quinn is a miserable little coward and a liar. And knowing this city as I do, I don’t doubt for a minute that the little rats that count the votes in Chicago cheated for Quinn to beat Bill Brady.

    Illinois has been in the top 6 to 10 on just about every ‘worst of” list regarding business since 1995 that I know. You just can’t whitewash that kind of data. Smart business people don’t have to do a lot of research to scratch Illinois from their list of prospective States in which they would move their business. As a reluctant Illinois resident, this sort of information catches my eye when I peruse the business news and I have been, sort of, keeping track.

    Nothing will change things in Illinois. The machine has been entrenched there for generations. The Dems have so entrapped families into dependency on them for jobs and favors in their neighborhoods. The average joe would never think of voting against the hand that feeds him. And it is a system like that which produces corrupt politicians that think they can do anything they want because they have such complete control over their serfs.

      Posted on March 4, 2011 at 8:36pm

      My first post to date I‘ve been reading with interest for a cpl of months now I’ll get to it An article by Malcolm Berko in our newspaper today seems to sum up “ Chicago Way” very nicely Malcolm gives credit for the story to former Florida governor,U.S. congressman. and U.S. senator Lawton Chiles. Anyway Chiles was having a conversation with a fellow Floridian he’d known for about 30 yrs., about Congress, when the man suddenly changed topics and asked Chiles “Do you know how we catch hogs here in the panhandle?” Chiles was somewhat startled by the abrupt change conversation, but knowing a bit about animal husbandry, he gave what he felt was a pretty good answer. His associate smiled politely and commented, “that ain’t what I had in Mind” And he proceeded to give Chiles his answer: “First,“ he said ”you got to pick a fine open spot in these woods here and seed it with corn. Them hogs can’t see very good, but they can smell that corn from a mile in any direction. And pretty soon, they start comin‘ every day to feast because it sure beats root’n and search’n for food.
      “Then when them hogs get real comfortable comin’ every day for the easy corn you build a sturdy 40-foot fence down one side of open woods where them hogs are used to com’n. the fence side will make them hogs a little shy, but after a few days, they’ll come round back again to eat easy corn,
      “And when them hogs start paying no mind to that 40 foot section, you build another sturdy 40-foot section. They’ll shy away for a time but come back, and you continue to do this until you have all four sides of the fence built with a swing gate on the final side. And now you’ve got yourself a big corral.
      “Well them hogs ain’t the smartest animals in the woods, but they‘s sure used to that free corn and will soon be com’n through the gate. And when enough of them come through, you slam the gate shut, and you’ve got yourself a big swine herd.
      “Them hogs will get exited and run around the perimeter of the corral, grunt‘n squeal’n and paw’n, but they won’t be able to push themselves past that sturdy fence. So it don‘t take long till they go back to eat’n that free and easy corn. And it ain’t long till them hogs are so accustomed to free corn that they forget how to forage through the woods for themselves and welcome their captivity.” And says Chiles , that is precisely what’s happening in our cities, states and country today. The government provides crop subsidies, income subsidies,fuel subsidies.housing subsidies,and mortgagesubsidies The government has health insurance programs, drug programs, and employment programs. They determine bank-lending criteria, hiring practices, workplace rules, and tells us how to run our public school systems, what foods we should eat ,and what crops to plant So as a result we are losing our freedoms a little bit at a time just like a herd of stupid near sighted hogs

Now we have Rahm or is that Ram since I am sure he helped the destroyer in the white house push through so much damaging legislation. He’ll probably do that in Chicago too. I live in the suburbs of Chicago now and am glad. Although I was born and raised in Chicago doesn’t mean I was not aware of all the dirty politics. You can thank that town for such a corrupt dude in the white house now. He made sure the fix was in for Rahm before Rahm ever left the white house. And that is why you have a Daley there advising Mr. Obumble. Just helping Odumbell to be more crooked that ever. Not that he needs any more lessons. He is doing a good job of wrecking everything in sight. The government makes the mafia look like Sunday school teachers anymore.

      Assuming anyone here believes in the truth and factual accuracy, then they would know the following:

      Individual tax rate:

      IL old — 3%; $2,000 personal income exemption
      IL new — 5%; $2,000 personal income exemption
      NJ — 1.4-10.75% (8 brackets), with a blended rate of about 5%; $1,000 exemption

      Corporate income tax:

      IL old — 7.3%
      IL new — 9.5%
      NJ — 9%

      Sales tax:

      IL — 6.25%
      NJ — 7%

      And just one more gem: according to ‘09 data, the latest available, from the non-partisan, non-profit Tax Foundation (which Fox News frequently uses as a source), the total tax burden in the state of IL is 10%, which ranks it thirteenth in the country. Numbers will go up meaningfully, but likely will not pass the worst offenders like California. But what about the state of NJ? Their total burden in ‘09 was 12.2%, which would be about the same in ‘10 given the lack of tax rate changes. Rank? It’s the highest in the entire US. (don’t believe me? Go see for yourself at: http://www.taxfoundation.org/taxdata/show/469.html)

      No wonder Christie needs to put out those agressive ads. He is deflecting the truth, which is he sits atop one of the highest taxing states in the country. He has proposed $200M in tax cuts to the wealthy and to businesses, but his state even with these cuts will be a lot closer to high taxing states like NY and CA. This clearly all positioning for a potential Presidential run.

      @abc
      Don’t know what part of Swillinois you live in but up here in Crook County, the sales tax is almost 11%. Also, property values have plummeted and property taxes have skyrocketed.

      In all fairness to the local governments, 70% of our property taxes go to the schools. Mine went up $1k in December while my home value decreased by almost a third – almost all of it went to the school district. (Of course, the property tax bills in Crook County came out three months late, conveniently AFTER the November elections.)

      I found a website that lists every teacher‘s and administrator’s salary and found that over 200 high school teachers in the district make north of $100k, including a DRIVER’S ED teacher who makes over $150k…and this district isn’t in Winnetka or Highland Park, it is in the south suburbs, as blue-collar as it gets. Also found that a VERY common practice is to keep bumping salaries by 10-20% per year in the last five years or so before retirement in order to boost pensions.

      I could go on and on and on about how the school districts are destroying the taxpayers in this state but no one seems to give a damn except me. (I was the lone voice at a school board meeting…eight of them against me…it got very ugly.)

      Quinn is a joke who won only because the unions in Chicago came out for him. (He won only THREE COUNTIES, Crook being one of them.) I thought things were bad under Blago and I had high hopes and expectations for Quinn, gadfly that he is. He turned out to be just another scumbag thieving politician.

      Good fact post by ABC there. Kudos.
      With him all the way up to “Tax cuts for the wealthy and businesses”. he says that as though it’s a horrid thing. All Libs chant that mantra. You never hear of giving tax cuts to the poor, though. Wonder why? Oh yeah it‘s because the poor don’t pay income taxes! Oh sure it‘s take out of their checks but here’s the dirty little secret. They get more back at the end of the year than they paid in!

      In 2005-2006 I was on food stamps, living below the poverty line. I had roughly $2k in federal taxes withheld. My tax return? My tax return that year was nearly $8k. Who’s money did I get back? It wasn’t my money, cuz I only paid in $2k. Now unlike a blood sucking leach, I pounded the pavement, got off the government tit. Now how did all that redistribution of wealth help the economy, or society? Did I invest my money in a business? Nope. Did I hire anyone or employ anyone? Nope. Did I invest that money into any stocks or money accounts? Nope. Hmmm… but those are all things that business owners and companies do. They put the money back into the market, generating market movement and generating employment opportunities. BUT HELL NO!!! We need to give all the money to the poor so they can fart it all away on weed, beer, cable, high-speed internet and gaming systems! HELL YEAH! WOOOOOOO!

      Don’t think trickle down wealth works? Well trickle down poverty sure as hell works!

      Raising taxes is like drugs after you take a hit, you always come back for more. In my opinion, raising taxes is the coward’s way out and it never works.

      The majority of all of Illinois revenue heads to Chicago where it is wasted like no city but Chicago can waste money. The rest goes to Springfield and a little to the rest of the state. If Illinois were smart they’d throw that city out and force them to make their own state of Chicago. See how far their progressive ideas go when the other 80% of the people in the state say no.

      Without Chicago, Quinn wouldn’t have been re-elected. Union City carried him completely. He lost every other county but one.

      Hey BuckOfama, which backwards way of life are you referring to? And where in southern Illinois? Many in my area would prefer if Chicago were to be granted statehood so we could be rid of its corrupting influence. In my instance, our family moved here in the 1800′s. So what are we supposed to give up without a battle?

      ABC….You should mention a sizable portion of Illinois’s population lives in Cook County & has a10+% sales tax. The city of CHicago sold it’s parking rights & now parking every day of the week may be higher than any other major USA city.

      The same tough talk Chistie uses on budget matters will be the same tough talk he uses against conservatives on issues like gun control, illegal immigration or even ObamaCare.

      He is not t conservative so many people think he is!!

      * His budget passed only after three conservative Republicans were bullied into voting for it and the savings achieved in the budget were done at the expense of new taxes, new fees, federal Stimulus funds and accounting gimmicks; the 2% property tax cap will actually cause taxes to skyrocket; he has yet to propose the “across the board” tax cuts he promised as a candidate; the budget actually INCREASES state expenditures by 6% and the number of staff in the Governor’s office making $100,000 per year increases by ten;

      * His confrontation with the unions is pure Kabuki theater with nothing accomplished but acrimony; he has yet to lay off a single state employee and his proposed 2011 state worker reduction plan is little more than window dressing;

      * He has populated his cabinet with notorious liberals while firing the only true conservative – after slandering him;

      * He has endorsed notorious RINO candidates in the 2010 mid-term election while avoiding (with one notable exception) contact with conservative candidates;

      * He supports a multi-state Cap & Trade scheme known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and is so committed to Cap & Trade that he used funds raised from RGGI’s carbon auctions to help balance the budget; he has directed that state funds be appropriated to subsidize “green” technology ventures such as off-shore windmills;

      * He has refused to join other state attorneys-general in a joint lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare while accepting federal funds for the implementation of a similar program on a statewide level;

      * He is on record saying that he does not believe illegal aliens are here illegally; he has indicated that he supports amnesty for illegals; he generally favors strict gun control and he supports construction of the Ground Zero Mosque even as he condemns those who oppose it.

      CHRISTE RINO!!!!!

      Pro Gov health care
      Pro cap and trade
      Pro amnesty
      Pro gay marriage
      Pro abortion
      Pro gun control / anti second amendment
      Pro socialist
      PRO RINO
      A RINO lost us 08
      I will no vote for him even against Obummer.
      I am sick as many are of voting for the lesser of 2 evils.
      If you jack wagons elect a RINO like Romnard or Christie in the primary you will get half the Obummer with all of the blame.
      And you will not get my vote as well as most of the original TEA party who are fed up with both big government parties.

      Gov. Quinn is focused on getting our state’s fiscal house in order and continuing to make Illinois an even stronger economic competitor,” she said.

      ===================================================================

      That would imply that Illinois has a strong economy in the first place. Hah, that’s laughable. I swear I’m stuck somewhere between hell and the sun. I have liberal union thugs north of me in Madison and to the south I have Chicago politics and more union thugs in a state that is even more insolvent then Wisconsin. Well at least Wisconsin is trying to fix the problem.

      End all corporate tax! It’s just double, triple, taxation on all of us. End income tax. Replace it all with a consumption based tax that, yes, that even the poor need to pay their fair share. Stop governing by special interest! Privatize most of education – the parents that can’t pay, they volunteer for the school and the student works for the school.
