High School Students Suspended For ‘Tebowing’ In Public

(The Blaze/AP) — Two New York high school athletes have been flagged for organizing several “kneel-downs” in tribute to Tim Tebow.High School Students Suspended For Tebowing On School Grounds

The mother of 17-year-old twins Connor and Tyler Carroll says they are impressed with the Denver Broncos quarterback. Tebow has led Denver to a 7-1 record and is a devout Christian known for kneeling in prayer on the gridiron.

The twins play football and baseball for Riverhead High School on Long Island. Mom Sherry Carroll says they had no religious intentions when they organized the kneel-downs this week.

About 40 students participated in the largest act of “Tebowing” on Wednesday.

District Superintendent Nancy Carney says the tribute posed a safety hazard by blocking others from getting to class.

Sherry Carroll says Connor served an in-school suspension Friday. Tyler serves his punishment Monday.

      I read in nashville another boy was expelled for this. I can’t imagine teachers being upset about this.It is mandatory in Massachusetts that public school kids participate in fastin during ramadam. I am beginning to think they hate Christians.

      That would be beautiful, it would be fitting as well, come to think of it: The Middle East nations torture, maim and kill all who deny their demon moon god, Allah.(Allah was the moon god and the most powerful out of 200 or so gods the Arabic clans,tribal/family nomads who roamed the desert attacking caravans like desert pirates, until Mohammad convinced them to band together under his leadership & start sacking cities, like Mecca). We have become so complacent, so timid.We’ve allowed our armed services to give rank to a muslim who went on a killing spree and murdered soldiers on American soil. He acted alone? I disagree.       Christianity is the ONLY religion which has a federally recognized holiday.
      You absolutely have the freedom to express your worship! And as a true American I would defend that against the government trying to supress that freedom. Today, I was verbally abused by someone who wished me a “Merry Christmas” and was offended by my not responding (because I didn’t hear her).
      I am not Christian, but I usually return the sentiment because I used to think it was more of a way to share the peaceful nature of the meaning. Now I will think twice before saying it to a stranger. But not when I wish it to my close friends who are real Christians and do not proslytize, but rather appreciate my respect for their personal beliefs. This notion of Christianity being America’s whipping boy is simply rediculous and a reason for the militants among you to bolster their cause. Have a Merry Christmas.

      I just can’t get a focus on this one. I understand Tim’s need to give the glory; on this earth, when in the spotlight of this world it is easy to fall into your own ego’s desires and walk proudly because of your own accomplishments. We, who have experienced real events that only God could have revealed know that we are NOT why life takes place. I am grateful for anyone that unabashedly shows his/her heart without fear of retribution from the one who wants to own this earth. However, I hope that no one will be deceived. After typing this out I realize, none of us are really in control, and if someone is deceived in it in HIS hands not mine or any other earthly creature………so let all believers display ………….let the chips fall in HIS hands………woohoo, I am going to send a ‘KNEE MAIL”!!!!!

      My Lord doesn’t beat everyone over the head with the cross! I am wondering why any servant of His would decide to do it. HE didn’t force anyone and HE said HE loves all. We have only been given a small crumb of the truth…..so how can we decide who and how someone has to live. I see his face shining in people that claim to be non-believers……if I insisted that the cross be their ornament…who would I be?       school authorities said the boys were suspeded because they blocked the hallway and had been asked not to do it…that is an important part of this story….that we are overlooking.. although I feel that even if they had not blocked the hallway,the school would have found a way to reprimand them for this..

With you attitude you should change your name to “The Collective”…Not all of us practice your religion, that being said, not all of us have a problem with this young man praying. Perhaps you should rethink your stance, because if you have any notion to remove me from my ancestral lands because I won’t kneel to your religion, I’m afraid you would be meeting your maker sooner than later.       DED BRED you are 100% correct when say the Mad Muslim in Fort Hood didn’t act alone, he was recruited. Does anyone remember a couple of years back, right before the Fort Hood shooting, when a lot of veteran file were hacked in to in Va. (both active and inactive) what do you suppose was in those medical files besides blood types, allergies and medical history, WHAT RELIGION YOU ARE, you have to give that information in case something goes wrong, I bet those records were stolen by a bunch of terrorist who are now using them to target Muslims in the U.S. armed forces to indoctrinate them. There was evidence to support my theory that surfaced during the initial investigation into the Mad Major’s case, but then, everything just sort of went away.

      the students involved had been warned previously for the same action.
      look at the “you tube” video of the “event” and you can clearly seethe hallway is blocked.
      they weren’t expressing any religious affirmation, just doing their own flash mob scene.
      it is a shame the blaze sees fit to print only 2% of the whole story.
      sadly, it is what many have come to expect from the blaze and its founder.

      I am a Christian, but I don’t like the public displays of worship, as it is unbiblical and Jesus said to pray in your closets in secret, so read the Sermon on the Mount and convince yourself I am wrong. I am not. Also Jesus said not to pray on street corners, or in the hallways of school, how ridiculous is that then? Pray in your closets where Jesus TOLD you to pray. Read the Book. Read the BIBLE.       Here I thought the bended knee in football was just to catch your breathe or for time-out.

      Christ Jesus did encourage to pray privately, not be repetitious, and not to pray like the pharisees to be seen but at the same he did not forbid the public display of worship and submission. Perfect religion is the service to orphans and widows in their time of need. I don’t know whether these guys are following a fad but perhaps their pastor or youth leader could shed some support. Regardless, if others can dance around stating how great they are why can’t these guys celebrate and credit their success where ever they want?

      Can you spell F_R_E_E_D_O_M? Freedom of expression and to worship, again it really hurts nobody. The next play will tell the story!

      Let the boys show honor! What a ridiculous world we are living in to have young men at a football game behave reverently and get punished?

      I am about ready to buy a football t-shirt and bow everywhere. Walmart, albertsons, soccer games, circle k,……..

      Oops, should have been general. Oops reread the article. I guess the administration punished them for being disruptive and causing a traffic problem.

      In that case perhaps, NYC and Mayor Bloomberg should hire ‘im to deal swiftly with OWS for the sake of traffic and commerce. The commute from LOOOOONG Island to NYC isn’t that far..just trains to subways and poof you are right there at Wallstreet!

    Who would have thought the whole world would become so backwards. The new Rebels pray. That is awesome, glad I’m still alive to see this miraculous change in people.       It is important to note that liberals have their own dictionary. Civil rights are not the same as the rights given to us in the Declaration or Constitution. When you see words like “civil”,“social”, or “union”, they pertain to collective principles where everybody is supposed to have the same outcomes to make a utopian world.     Tebowing in public! Sounds terrible. Except it was done in the middle of the schools hallway blocking other students from getting anywhere. Suspended! Because they were warned not to disrupt the schools function previously. They’re just kids doing silly things for attention, not religious patriots being singled out by athiest administrators.

    As a former soldier of the recent “BS” wars (Iraq, Afgan..), I can tell you I saw more soldiers pray at meals and more every day. Plus, bible talks or groups at night. Will you or “they” want to limit or erase the prayers of our military too?

      They are beginning to already. It is called FORCED DISPLAY OF PERSONAL BELIEFS ON OTHERS. A lot of military leaders will counsel their men on keeping this to themselves.

      We are in the end-times folks. READ your Bible. Christians and Jews will be hated more and more. We will be attacked in every way possible. It will be a form of separating the chafe from the wheat. In the book of Revelation, true followers of Christ will be KILLED/SLAIN just because they choose Jesus and not the antichrist. ARE YOU NOT SURPRISED? I’m not. It thrills me to know that Jesus is coming soon, whether you believe in the pre-trib, mid-trib, or post-trib. It does not matter. JESUS IS COMING IN MY LIFETIME AND I AM READY. He will only call those up to Him who are HIS. Read your Bible and find out if you are.

    Know why the Libs get so upset when anybody pays homage to God . It goes against their campaign to replace God with themselves/government and the more people do this the more that it reminds them of how pathetic their life’s are in face of the truth so keep it up

      These teens did not pay homage to God. “Mom Sherry Carroll says they had no religious intentions when they organized the kneel-downs this week.” They are just using Tim Tebow’s faith as a way to bring attention to themselves.

      I don’t see no reason why anyone should grip about any religion having prayer. There is only one God and that is Christ. It won’t hurt any Christian for those other people to pray to a false god, let em knock themselves out, they might as well be talking to the wall so why worry right!

      They should have pulled out prayer mats, faced east towards mecca, and then Tebowed. That would have messed with the superintendent’s liberal little brain. Christian or Muslim… One I can get away with persecuting, the other will bring on a lawsuit… what to do???

    i watched tebow when he he played the lions, i live in michigan. they sacked him and beat him all over the place and he never gave up, he ran the ball and took hits and even was made fun of by the lions defense, but he never quit. isn’t that what we are about? have so many forgot this? i’m not even a football fan, but i’m a fan of his, i‘ll watch him every chance i get cause it’s inspiring. we get few people to acually look up to lately, win or lose he is there gutting it out. we need more like that. anybody who knocks him is just biased against his religion, they can piss off!

      If the students were kneeling in humility toward God that would be great, I hardly consider that is what anyone should be called Tebowing! I don‘t think these student’s motives were what we would call humility towards God or they wouldn’t have called it Tebowing! Tebow is a great role model for young men who have the dream of playing pro football or any endeavor they might have in life. From what I have heard from other people and articles I have read about Tim Tebow, his honoring God did not start when he became a Bronco. He did the same thing throughout his high school and college career. It just hasn’t gotten as much media attention as it has in this Obamanation day and time! Tebow’s Mom was advised that she would most likely die when she was pregnant with Tebow and was advised by her Dr.to get an abortion to save her own life. She refused and said she was willing to trust the Lord and if it was God’s will for her to die, so be it. Tebow not only was born healthy but his Mom was fine too. As far as I know his Mom is still in good health for someone her age. Their story is quiet a testimony in trusting God in sticky situations!

    I wish more facts were presented before this story was published. I would like to know what area the 40 students used for this function. If it was in the hallway then I can see where it could have caused a problem. This is not known at this time.

    I would say that the only reason that prayer is not okay is only because of local community and local school boards decisions to make it so. There is also the fact of the threat of law suits by the ACLU that can cost lots of money to defend against.

    However, espousing ones personal beliefs is not against the constitution nor is it illegal. It is only because of the people sitting on the school boards and the people serving the local communities that has allowed banishment of any display of religion. People get what people elect.

      I heard them interview one of them and there was no mention of honoring God, he said he thought was cool to be Tebowing in the hall! Not exactly what Tebow does I don’t think!

      My apologizes if I inferred that they were any mention of honoring GOD. I am just a humble uneducated person and make minor attempts at posting my personal opinions on this forum. I sometimes fail miserably when trying to do so. I thought I was making a couple of comments on this article but somehow managed to fail even at that.

      Other than the fact that I only mentioned that I wish there was a bit more detail provided on the site where these students played their game of TEBOWING. I attempted to suggest that I would like to know where this tebowing occurred. Was it in a hallway or in an open space.

      It is true that I went a step further than necessary in making comments about having the local school boards and the local community representatives make the decisions on what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in regards to religion. I also inserted that the ACLU is largely responsible for filing legal actions in any situation where religion is pronounced.

      I also stated that none of this is illegal nor against our constitution and that the people get what the people elect.

      If that is wrong then explain it to me other than to say that the two brothers that were suspended from school did not mention GOD.

      Of course there should be no misconception that the actions these young men took had anything to do with faith. I know that they would not say that to attempt to gain favor with this Principal that would suspend them if they admitted to having such faith. Again it is what the local citizens vote for in the elections that give us principals such as these.

      The mother of 17-year-old twins Connor and Tyler Carroll says they are impressed with the Denver Broncos quarterback. Tebow has led Denver to a 7-1 record and is a devout Christian known for kneeling in prayer on the gridiron.

      I get you. People are not involved in their local politics. If the world was perfect atheists would respect people right to practice their religion. I can’t remember when an atheist was forced to put up a cross on their property, but I do remember when atheists forced someone to take a cross off of theirs.

    God bless Tebow and shame on the superintendent. I am sick and tired of people in authority punishing students for a religious tribute. No matter what the players say they were giving tribute to Tebow and thereby honoring God. Maybe we all should do a tebow? Remember that the college professors encourage students to participate in OWS. That’s right — five thousand arrested, many sexually attacked, several dead, countless drugs and acts of civil of disobedience. What have we become when religion is scorned and breaking the law is looked on a just movement?

    i say every student do a “tebow” at the same time. what are they going to do suspend them all? to show solidarity in the fact that we are all sick of the attacks on christianity. i see a groundswell of people that are tired of being pushed around! we’ll really see it in the 2012 election. then after that every kid in school who wants to should hang a pic of jesus in the hallway!

      We really don’t have an actual pic of Jesus to hang up. The one we always see hanging up is one someone thought Jesus looked like. Since they didn’t have cameras in those days, we really don’t know what Jesus physical features were. I am a Christian and I have a picture what someone thought Jesus looks like in home, not knocking it, just saying!

      I think MOST of you commentators are really a bit lost and uninformed about God’s word. What those kids did was MOCK Tebow. TRUE followers of Christ would not have done that, nor would they feel that they must DEFEND their faith.

      Tebow is NOT defending his faith. He genuinely believes in giving thanks immediately to God. And, as always, non-Christians WILL mock him, as they did Jesus.

      If a Christian is displaying gratefulness to God in public without sincerity and without truth, then it means nothing and is ego only. I do believe Tebow is sincere. Those kids in NY were not. Christians are also supposed to obey the law of the land. NOW, if someone said grace in the school cafeteria over their lunch and then were told not to, THEN I WOULD CONTACT THE ACLU. Dangerously impeding foot traffic, when you are told NOT TO, is clearly NOT following the guidance of the Holy Spirit. DOESN’T ANYONE UNDERSTAND THAT? Are you all baby Christians or liberal Christians? A TRUE FOLLOWER OF CHRIST WOULD KNOW THIS. The Holy Spirit lives within the follower of Christ (true Christian) and they would LISTEN and DO what the Spirit tells them. I doubt any of those kids was listening to the HS, IF they had the HS at all. God would NEVER tell them to do this. Most of you go by your own sensibilities and how you can fit into this conversation. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU.
