Hillary Clinton Says She’d Avoid TSA Pat-Down if at All Possible

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says officials should try to make the new airport security measures, including full body scans and intimate pat-downs, less intrusive.
Clinton says there’s clearly a need for the tighter security. But she says the government should explore ways to “to limit the number of people who are going to be put through surveillance.”
She says she understands “how offensive it must be” for some people to undergo the searches. She says there’s a need to strike “the right balance” and to “get it better and less intrusive and more precise.”
Would she submit to a pat-down? “Not if I could avoid it,” Clinton says. “No. I mean, who would?”
She made the comments in interviews aired Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation” and NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 2:09pmEvery time, I get “selected” for the scanner, I opt for the pat down. Because they should endure the inconvenience just as much as I will. Further, the pat-down lasts for a moment, the scanner image lasts indefinitely.
Then I ask the TSA employee, “How was I selected for further scrutiny?” and they will [quite often] say, “We select people at random in order to keep it fair and sample the population.” Or do we really believe children fit a threat profile?
Folks, random sampling is not “reasonable search and seizure.” Keep a record and file a complaint anywhere and everywhere. Begin with TSA, the airlines and your congressman’s office(s).
Defend the constitution, or be prepared to live without it. Know the 4th amendment. Know when it’s been violated too.
There’s something very wrong with this arrangement. Remember, if seems excessive, it probably is.
THERE ARE other technological and manual methods which will work without invading your privacy or assaulting your dignity and your rights (as scanner image clarity AND the frisking do)!
Otherwise, some suggest “crop-dusting.” ;^) You pick…lose your rights, or lose your couth. That’s gonna be a curious trend to report in the news!!
In other related news, the terrorist Ghailani got a slap on the wrist with 1 conviction out of 285 charges…and the one conviction was not even a “terrorist” charge…you think it’s going to get easier on the American public as we have to make up for the lack of deterrence…

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 11:07amIt is a great Idea that all goverment officials have to go through the highest levels of screenings each time they board a plane private or commercial. This way they know and put themselves through what they are demanding of others. No pass for the officials. This should include the TSA agents and the officials also. It should be automatic policy and no exceptions. This way they can say that they understand being sexually assulted and photographed nude. Also, what can we say then if they submit themselves to all of this then we should too. Either that, or start profiling and do this to all persons fitting the profile.

This after he made such a big deal about his decision to do away with the military flights that Nancy Pelosi was pilloried for (although it was Bush that implemented that policy), and after he stated that he would “fly like the rest of us.” Maureen Dowd writes about this, so it has been verified and fact-checked. Ignore it only if you are a liar and hypocrite. At least Hillary Clinton is honest about it, while John Boehner wants you to believe that he will subject himself to the pat-down while he attempts to quietly pull rank on the rest of us. Either you are a moron, and cannot see the myriad possibilities, or you think you are mind-reader, which means you are worse than stupid: you are crazy. Which is it?
Joe the Plumber and Brad Pitt are recognizable, so should they skip the screening? What about Zhang Zi Yi? I think you ought to ask yourself why the EXPERTS consistently set up programs of security that subject most celebrities to a screening. And then ask yourself why only political celebrities are being allowed to opt out. Clearly, being recognized is not the controlling factor. It is the POWER that these people have. Power corrupts, so as an antidote to that corruptive element, I demand that Boehner and Clinton be subjected. I also believe that you cannot empathize with your constituency if you are opting out of the headaches that they are subjected to. Another reason for Boehner to not opt out.
There was a controversy earlier in the year, when the TSA demanded that famous Indian actors, who are regularly opting out of security in India, given that country’s caste system that treats people unequally and in un-American fashion, should be put through scanners in NYC. The Indian government filed a complaint, but we didn’t back down. Republicans cheered. What’s good for celebrities in Hollywood and Bollywood ought to be good enough for Boehner. Only hypocrites make up strawman arguments about why I am wrong and claim false victory, all the while failing to address the obvious hypocrisy of their and their favorite political leader’s points of view.
Either Boehner should retract his comments about flying like the common man–which he made only last week–or he should stand in the expedited first class or regular coach line like the rest of us.

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 12:35pmABC:
I usually end up praying for you (and in my own little world I pray that it irritates you that I do), but on this I find myself in agreement with you.
I for one have had it with the “double standard” that Washington DC and “celebrity” is given and takes in this country. I’d like to see a level playing field, that our elected officials would under go the same existance that their constituentcies do. That beiong said, I am an adult and fully rational, so I know that the likelyhood of that happening is slim to none, and slim left town before the scanners were in place.
It’s easy to call the kettle black, too easy.
But here are some facts.
America was founded to be a republic
Since 1913 “social wellfare laws” have eroded our Republic into a “democratic socilism”
No one presently living in America has experienced a true American Republic as intended by our
founders
The election on 11/02/2011 was not a validation of a “republican (party) agenda, but a veritable slap to the FACE of socialism
We the people have spoken, and shall continue to speak, we will experience a true REPUBLIC in our life time, and we shall do so the PROPPER WAY by voting.
We who feel this way OUT NUMBER the socialist/communist/marixist Three to One. Have you read Sun Tzu?
Irregardless of who you are, how you fell, this country IS returning to its founding one way or another. And I speak in parables for those who have ears that hear and eyes that see.
And in conclusion, unlike a socilist, we won’t take what you work for, in fact you wouldn‘t have what you have if it weren’t for us.
Report Post »abc
Posted on November 21, 2010 at 4:11pmBetterDays, first, you are not correct about praying. I do not believe in God, but I do not presume to have all the evidence that would allow me to disabuse you of your religion. I think prayer is useless except to the extent that it helps give people peace of mind, just as the meditation of non-theistic people will do. So I would never hold it against you. Finally, I am touched that you would pray for me since that implies that while we disagree you care enough about me to want me to “see the light.” That is not a bad ethic to hold, even if I disagree with it. Thus, your assumption that your prayers irritate me are not correct.
You also wrote a bunch of stuff that should be addressed:
America was founded to be a republic
“Since 1913 “social wellfare laws” have eroded our Republic into a “democratic socilism””
As countries get richer, they add a larger safety net so that our standard of living can be raised. This is not socialism necessarily. We have tougher food safety and environmental laws than dirty and dangerous China does, although their country remains more socialist than ours. So I think your claim is false on its face. To the extent that we have some policies that are socialist, like those that guarantee workers rights, I happen to like those, as do millions of other Americans. And there is nothing unconstitutional about them, as the Supreme Court has approved of them thruogh a history of case law and a long period of silence that shows tacit acceptance.
“No one presently living in America has experienced a true American Republic as intended by our
founders”
This statement implies that you have privileged knowledge about what the founders envisioned. It is possible that they expected the country to have a bigger safety net and higher standard of living 200 years later, just as I expecte that 200 years from now, we will know a lot more and have a much better functioning government than we have today. Also, the fact that we live in a different democracy than our founders did is actually a good thing. Afteral, blacks and women and non-landowners couldn’t vote back then. Are you defending that state of affairs as being better than ours? I think not.
“The election on 11/02/2011 was not a validation of a “republican (party) agenda, but a veritable slap to the FACE of socialism”
This is your opinion. You have to produce polling data on that question to prove it. I happen to think that the economy being very weak and unemployment being high contributed mightily to voter dissatisfaction. By the way, the economy would have been a lot worse without the bailouts that you are implicitly calling socialist. And even the most conservative trained economists have repeatedly said as much. But the problem is that you never will win an election for avoiding a much worse economic outcome (which Bush policies would have produced). People don’t vote based upon hypotheticals. In short, you assume way too much on the basis of the election without showing data. And the electorate could punish someone for doing a good job since the bad outcome avoided is never considered by the voting public.
“We the people have spoken, and shall continue to speak, we will experience a true REPUBLIC in our life time, and we shall do so the PROPPER WAY by voting.”
A republic is technically a representative system of democracy. It has nothing to do with how welfare based or laissez-faire based the economy runs. If we have indirect democracy and highly socialistic policies, then technically, this is still a republic. I think you need to go back and learn your terminology so I can understand what you are trying to say.
“We who feel this way OUT NUMBER the socialist/communist/marixist Three to One. Have you read Sun Tzu?”
I’ve read Sun Tzu–some parts even in Chinese–but I struggle to understand what that means. We are a democracy and a nation of laws. If the majority of left leaning people can win elections–and they do on a regular basis, they they are allowed to put those policies into action. By the way, those policies are not communist or marxist and are mostly not even socialist. You use those words as though they are interchangeable, but they are not. Again, you would be well-served to go learn what they mean. That way, we can have a more precise and accurate discussion.
“Irregardless of who you are, how you fell, this country IS returning to its founding one way or another. And I speak in parables for those who have ears that hear and eyes that see.”
The country cannot return to its founding even if it tried. The world we live in is not 18th century, so the demands of government are different. You can call your preferred state of affairs a “return” but that is more rhetoric than reality. Clearly, you don’t advocate returning to the 3/5ths rule. So you have to be more precise in your logic and language. And parables are problematic in this regard since they are so imprecise. it is how we communicated 5,000 years ago, but there are much better ways to do it today. We have enjoyed much progress since the time of the Bible. You should recognize that rather than pretending that people 5,000 years ago have superior insights to us now. They do not.
“And in conclusion, unlike a socilist, we won’t take what you work for, in fact you wouldn‘t have what you have if it weren’t for us.”
Even capitalists require a government to take some of what you work for. So your argument again makes no sense. You have to define things more precisely. You have to say what you think the right tax rate is, what the right level of govt spending as a percentage of GDP, and how those two are equalized under normal economic conditions. If you cannot do this, then you are really talking nonsense about taking what is not yours or returning to the founders and all the other useless stuff that Beck fills your head with. You’d be scared if your doctor started talking in parables are asserting that we need to return to 19th century medicine, but you are not scared when policymakers talk this way. That is puzzling to me. Economics and accounting are as precise as medical science. You ought to demand the same level of competence when discussing it. If you cannot evaluate the art, because you are not qualified, then the fact you can recite parables should be irrelevant.

I am gainfully and lucratively employed. Second, you cannot on the one hand pat yourself on the back for your conservative site allowing me to post, while HuffPo doesn’t, and then on the other implying that I should shut up by going to find a job. The same limits on contrary opinion that you see at HuffPo exist all over the right-wing blogosphere. So please spare me the noise. Either you can rebut the factual analysis that I always supply, and which you call garbage because it causes one to reach conclusions that are contrary to the false narrative espoused by conservatives. Or you can admit that you are incapable of defending that false narrative with facts and that you will instead rely upon name-calling or non-sequitur attacks to distract people from the sorry failing on your part to actually address the issue. And the issue is this. Beck highlights Hillary’s admission in the hypothetical, which is honest, but they ignore Boeher’s hypocrisy in this regard. If you stand on principle, you will call out both or neither, but not one and not the other. That is dishonest partisanship. I thought conservatives and tea partiers were non-partisan and principle based. I guess that isn’t true. Put up the facts or shut up. Calling my facts garbage only makes you look foolish.

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 10:54amMyself and another passenger were flying out of Ft Lauderdale airport to Atlanta. We did not set off the alarm going through the metal detector but were still marked for x ray scanner. Pat’s story can be found here. http://teapartyfortlauderdale.com/news.html He is a much better writer than I.
The video of the Atlanta airport security terminal warning lock down can be seen here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPo8R79lQ6Q
This morning flight from Ft Lauderdale to Atlanta had a medical emergency in flight about half way through. Upon landing passengers were asked to stay seated while paramedics boarded and attended to the passenger in first class. Our prayers are with the man and his family. I am unsure of his condition.
Once I exited the plane into the terminal I was spooked by a recorded alarms and flashing lights, the alarm stating
“”Attention please, attention please, relocate to a safe area within the building near a safe exit and await further instructions, do not use elevators.”
I asked the only TSA person present if this alarm was due to the medical emergency that happened on the plane, she said she did not think so, I asked if this was a drill, she said she did not think so, BUT “if I see people running then you know it is hitting the fan”. I steeped back as she walked away with a grin and thought If this is what our millions of stimulus have accomplished we are indeed in deep trouble. I pulled ou t my Iphone and began to record. I captured the security warning audio message in full and then stopped recording.
The trip started in Ft Lauderdale airport where a TSA agent asked me to walk through the metal detector, I did without a beep. I was then lured into one of the x-ray machines, I was not told I was going to be scanned. Upon realizing what they were attempting to do I told the TSA agent I refuse to be scanned. My opt out was announced publicly and then by walkie talkie. I was then paraded to a small roped off area for pat down. My TSA assaulter was gentle compared to the horror stories I have read about to date.. The process took 2-4 minutes. After what I assume was some kind of chemical test I was told I was free to go. I know a TSA agent. They do in fact profile just so you know. The problem is it is left up to the discretion of the agent. If you have a liberal America hating agent you can be sure those who are devout followers of a religion who track record of followers who blow up planes is rather alarming. Then you have the grandmas and children who are being run up the flag pole? Someone needs to tell the TSA you don’t look for oranges in a apple orchard.

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 11:37amAn easy fix to this problem and all problems that people are having with TSA. Either quit flying or buy your own plane. Then you can avoid all pat downs and scans.

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 11:55amYou would have to have very big hands to pat down Hil’s pins. How would the TSA stormtrooper react when he got to her crotch and found a sac with Barry’s Huevos??

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 2:45pmOK, HEAVYDUTY… I have grown weary of hearing this response of yours. As a frequent traveler, I travel often out of a very real business requirement. Suppose the TSA were restricting automobile travel, and you were told to suck it up or don’t drive to the grocery store. Let’s just close our eyes, go to sleep, and wake up after ALL of our Constitutional freedoms have been taken over. I hope that Americans show more spine and intelligence.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 9:29amWhy should we worry about some one blowing up an airplane when the current adminstration is blowing up our whole country from the safe confines of the White House? Just asking….
