Hillary Clinton to Visit Egypt and Israel, Highest Ranking U.S. Official to Meet Muslim Brotherhood’s Morsi

The State Department has announced that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will visit Egypt and Israel in the middle of July, making her the most senior U.S. official to meet with newly-elected Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammed Morsi.

Last month, Clinton said that the Obama administration was pleased so far with commitments made by Morsi, but would reserve judgment until the government was up and running. Specifically, she was pleased Morsi had pledged to honor Egypt’s international obligations, widely believed to reference Egypt’s peace treaty with Israel. President Obama congratulated Morsi by phone hours after the election results were announced.

Now, she will have the opportunity to assess Morsi’s leadership up close and assess how serious his commitment is to the Israel treaty and to reigning in terrorist activity in the Sinai Peninsula which borders Israel.

Clinton’s visit to Israel – where she will meet with Israeli and Palestinian officials – was announced just days after presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney announced his trip to Israel planned for the end of the month. The GOP candidate’s planned visit has brought attention to Obama’s failure to visit Israel since being elected president. He did visit while a candidate in 2008.

Beyond the diplomatic agenda, it’s unclear if the secretary’s visit two weeks before Romney’s aims to send a signal to Democratic voters who support Israel.

Polls show that Obama’s support among Jewish voters has decreased since the 2008 election. Though the administration stood by Israel in opposing the Palestinian bid for full UN membership last September, other statements have raised questions about the sincerity of the president’s commitment to Israel. Those include a call for a return to 1967 borders, which Israel considers to be indefensible. Obama was also caught on live microphone in November making a snide remark about Prime Minister Netanyahu he thought was off camera to former French President Sarkozy.

“You’re fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day!” Obama reportedly told Sarkozy who began the exchange by admitting he “cannot stand” the Israeli prime minister.

Clinton is also including Laos on her eight-nation tour, which the State Department is calling a “groundbreaking visit” since she is the first secretary of state in 57 years to visit the communist-run country.

    When it is all said and done, just how much US taxpayers dollars will this cost in the form of
    foreign aid. In addition to an added bonus of allowing members of the brotherhood to vote via absentee ballot in our Presidential election, because their ‘hearts’ are in the right place.

    Based on this comment could this be a fishing expedition for some campaign cash for the progressives? I know not why since the liberal Left has $90B in to spend, almost 7 times the monies that conservative Right. Maybe they just don’t like to give (ex. – honest J-Biden) and they need outside sourcing?

    Otherwise – we are on the wrong side of the fence here.

    I will ask this question constantly – IF the “War on Terror” is over, why, WHY is Homeland Security still active? Its mandate has been, by the Administration’s own words, has been achieved.

    It really is hard to pray for these people…. but that’s the mandate. Sorry Lord for my resistance and/or absence before you on this subject matter at times…..

When Republican visits it is to showcase their continued biblical support for Israel. How bout one honest report, you know one where you don’t grossly display you ideology and bias.

    Here is the back story.
    Hillary Clinton, the US State Dept and the Obama regime have totally failed in establishing a coherent foreign policy anywhere in the middle east.
    The promised Arab spring never sprung.
    Egypt is now a hot bed of fundementalist Islamic terrorism coordinated by the promised ‘moderates’ I the obviously violent caliphate known as the Muslim brotherhood.
    Pray that Obama is removed in Nov. because the seeds that Hillary is sowing today are presenting a direct danger to our armed forces and EVERY American citizen here at home and abroad
    Our country cannot withstand this total ‘politically correct’ international suicide any longer!
    No more nation building. No more global government.
    No more foreign aid.
