Freshman Republican Rep. Tim Scott began his “First in The South” Presidential Town Hall series with former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman Sunday night. With every candidate looking for an edge in what is still seen as a wide open 2012 Republican presidential primary, Huntsman shared with South Carolinians his policy solutions for the country as well as some old musical talents you may not have been aware of.
ABC News 4 reports that Huntsman spoke to the South Carolinians about loving the country, tackling the issue of the economy, his disapproval of government bailouts, and other nice, but common, Republican talking points. The town hall took place in South Carolina’s “Lowcounty,” where the Obama administration’s National Labor Relations Board has been fighting with Boeing for choosing to establish a facility in North Charleston.
“I think it‘s an absolute shame that the president hasn’t told the Labor Board to stand down on something that’s critically important as SC job creation,” Huntsman said to ABC News 4. The NLRB is arguing that Boeing only established a facility in North Charleston as retaliation for union strikes in Washington.
But the highlight of the event may have been when Huntsman and Rep. Scott closed with a serenade to President Obama of the song, “Hit The Road Jack.” Scott provided the vocals, while Huntsman shredded on the keyboard:
A YouTube video captures the full performance, as well as more of Huntsman’s talent:
Before entering the University of Utah, Huntsman tried becoming a rockstar, dropping out of Palo Alto high school to play keyboard in the rock band Wizard while earning his G.E.D. Perhaps Huntsman is trying to channel his inner Bill Clinton , who famously broke out his saxophone in 1992.

Posted on August 8, 2011 at 10:42pmI have said once here and I will say it again, Jon Huntsman Jr. is no conservative. He was my governor, I know. The last election he ran for governor in Utah, I threw my vote away voting for a third party guy because I could not add my vote to his win. He is no Jon Huntsman Sr. He is just lucky enough to have his dad’s name. In all honesty if Jon Sr. really had the courage, he wouldn’t support his own son. Huntsman Jr. is a RINO big time. If you thought our Republican representatives are addicted to compromise just put this guy in there. Silver Spoon Jonny hasn‘t seen a compromise he doesn’t like. Silver Spoon is worse than McCain by a landslide. Please quit considering him an option for a Conservative president.

Posted on August 8, 2011 at 3:44pmOh, and by the way. I felt that Obama got Huntsman out of the country just for the reason that he didn’t want to run against him. When Huntsman gave up his position in China I knew he was bucking for a run. I just hope the party can come up with someone worth voting for.

Posted on August 8, 2011 at 3:43pmI certainly have my concerns about Jon Huntsman. While some say like father like son, I don’t think it applies in this case. He was brought up in a very different time and didn’t have to use the hard work and determination his father did to be successful. He has the name. Period.

Posted on August 8, 2011 at 2:57pmHuntsman is wasting his time and other peoples money. He has zero chance of getting the nomination.
Report Post »Jon will probably turn into one of those spoilers and run as a third party candidate to split the GOP vote to help his buddy Obama. His 100 or so supporters will stick with him til the end.
