Holder Defends Suing States Over Voter ID Laws Because They Hurt ‘Minorities, Young People, Seniors’

Attorney General Eric Holder’s Justice Department has been embroiled in several controversies surrounding race throughout his tenure. Today, he stoked one more. When pressed over his Department’s policy of suing states with laws requiring voters to produce Photo ID, Holder offered a rather curious defense, according to CNS News:
The attorney general stressed there is no evidence that voter fraud is a problem that can be alleviated by photo ID laws.
“There really is no statistical indication that in person vote fraud has to be cured by the introduction of voter photo ID,” Holder said.
“And when one looks at the negative impact of these photo ID laws and the harm that has on minorities, young people, seniors, and the balancing we have to do, I think we should think long and hard about whether or not these photo ID laws – in curing a problem that I don’t think necessarily exists and have a negative impact on the ability of people to get to the polls – is a worthwhile policy initiative,” he added.
Holder’s use of racial disparities as a justification for suing states was previously savaged by the Wall Street Journal in December of 2011 as a “political abuse of law.” They also noted that the Supreme Court has been taking steps toward striking down the parts of the 1965 Voting Rights Act that give Holder the authority to sue in the first place.
However, Holder’s statement is notable in that it focuses not purely on the race of those affected, but now also introduces the element of age. However, Holder’s argument that young people and seniors are dramatically less likely to have photo IDs is dubious at best. Even according to liberal sources, the percentage of seniors who lack photo ID is only 18 percent, as is the percentage of young people who lack photo ID that lists both their current name and current address.

If you’re a woman, you ALSO have to show certificates of any marriages or divorces. Sounds like state sponsored gender discrimination to me…So, anyways, this little speech from Holder makes me feel sooooo MUCH better. Now I know why they don’t want anyone to have guns – so you don’t use them on YOURSELVES! Oh wait…unless you’re old and on the bottom of the CLS bell curve. We’re doomed.

Posted on March 1, 2012 at 1:55amI agree completely every US citizen should have some form of photo ID.Those who can’t drive can still get a state issued ID card through their local driver license office and they do not cost much to get.If a person wants to vote and has valid Identification then more power to them.If they are to lazy to have a photo Id then they will have one by the next election if they intend to vote.Most states I know of require either a drivers license or state issued id for everything from check cashing to getting credit.

Cash a check, use a credit card, buy cigarettes, buy alcohol, buy sharpie markers, lighter fluid, cold medicine, fill a narcotic prescription, make a health insurance claim, get on an airplane, attend a public school, drive on roads, buy a firearm, open a utilities account, purchase a house, rent an apartment, take out a loan, go to a bar, pick up a child from a “play place”, get a job…..
If you are not doing any of these things then you must be a hermit or dead. In the first instance you probably wouldn’t come out and vote, in the second dead people should not be voting.

I have to show an ID card with my picture and address to get Library Card not to mention file my Income Taxes and any other legal action. I‘m 70 so I don’t get asked for it to buy things like cigarettes or alcohol but have to show it some places when I use a credit card register, my car and many other transactions. So do other seniors. My grandsons have had ID cards or Drivers Licenses since they were old enough to need them. I see to it that they get to the polls and vote and understand that voting is not just a privilige but a responsibility and showing an ID would not bother them at all.
Where are all these people that Holder is helping? Are they hiding in the Cook county cemetary until needed? Or maybe a graveyard in the Rio Grande Valley? Show them to me!!
This crooked administration, led by Obumbler and Holder has filed so many useless lawsuits against the states and avoided problems they have created, like Fast and Furious and the loans to failing Green energy companies.

Frankly, I am amazed by the 18% number cited in the article. The only explanation I can come up with is these seniors are already in a nursing home and not mobile. They probably wouldn’t vote anyway.

Mom……they‘re already do’in something. You are correct that Eric (“my people”) Holder is a racist. His DOJ is so infected with racism, so intent on retribution, that they have stolen elections in many districts. “Injustice”, (by J Christian Adams) explains the level of racism in the ‘voters section’ of the civil rights division of the DOJ. Adams worked there for 5 years, and what he has written will make you dizzy with outrage.
I would suggest that anyone concerned about voter fraud get a copy of that book. It is absolutely unbelievable!
After reading that, it was easy for me to see why Holder/Obama never brought charges against the NBP thugs in Philly. These guys will do anything. Then again, you have to remember they are above the law.
I am really conflicted about the mainstream ‘R’s in the race. I see another candidate unwilling to go directly after Obama. I will, however, vote for the ‘R’ candidate. If we do not, Obama is re-elected. Gun rights will be attacked through the UN’s plan to disarm us, and who knows what else.
I heard today that black agitators want to have Black History taught all school year.

These cards serve all sorts of other purposes as an official ID for banking, when using a credit card in a store and so on. Yet the poor old USA cannot get this simple validation exercise approved …..

Very few people in this country do not have some form of ID, the arguement is stupid. No ID no movies for over 18, no ID no booze, no cigaretts, no apartment, no loans, etc. Even at the bottom rung your life would not be pretty without an ID, all my grandsons, grandaughters and all their friends have them. this is a lie, they want the fraud.
