Holder Testifies: Fast and Furious Guns Will Be Showing Up ‘For Years to Come’

Holder Testifies Before Congress | Guns Could Show up for Years to ComeAttorney General Eric Holder said Thursday guns from the botched Fast and Furious operation will continue to show up at U.S. and Mexican crime scenes “for years to come.”

“It is an unfortunate reality that we will continue to feel the effects of this flawed operation for years to come,” Holder said during his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee Thursday. “Guns lost during this operation will continue to show up at crime scenes on both sides of the border.”

Holder’s testimony follows his appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee last month, during which he admitted the failed program — where weapons sold to Mexican drug cartels were not tracked, resulting in the deaths of hundreds including a U.S. Border Patrol agent — was “flawed.”

“As I have repeatedly stated, allowing guns to walk – whether in this administration or in the prior one – is wholly unacceptable.   The use of this misguided tactic is inexcusable. And it must never happen again,” Holder said Thursday.

Facing harsh questioning from lawmakers, Holder again denied any top department officials were aware of the “inappropriate tactics” used in the operation until they were made public. Holder himself has changed the timeline on when he first knew about the program, saying in May it was only within the last few weeks before amending that statement in November.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and a leader in the investigation, said he found Holder’s claims “implausible” and demanded to know why those involved at the Justice Department have not been fired.

“The president has said he has full confidence in this attorney general,” Issa said. “I have no confidence in a president who has full confidence in an attorney general who has in fact not terminated or dealt with individuals, including key lieutenants who from the very beginning had some knowledge and long before [U.S. Border Patrol agent] Brian Terry was gunned down, knew enough to stop this program.”

“Mr. Attorney General, the blame must go to your desk and you must today take the real responsibility,” Issa said.

Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) said “heads should roll” and raised the possibility of impeachment, though without specifying exactly whom he had in mind.

“If you don’t get to the bottom of this,” there is only one alternative, and “it’s called impeachment,” Sensenbrenner said. More than 50 lawmakers have called for Holder’s resignation.

    Seriously, how does anyone come to the defense of an administration that intentionally puts guns in the hands of people who immediately use them against your own citizens, for the purposes of passing laws to restrict the liberty of your own people. It’s indefensible. Anyone who would even try to defend it needs to take a hard look at their priorities. This goes WAY beyone whether or not you support “gun control”.

To add insult to injury, he’s managed to make the DOJ to most politically charged and racially biased in modern times. Obama will do his utmost not to fire him because Holder has proven to be a useful ally in Obama’s perpetual political campaign. Every state with an immigration bill has been fought by the DOJ..even if Holder hadn’t read the new law himself…he didn’t care..it must be wrong according to Holder.

      Anyone remember how Holder went after Jay Bybee & John Yoo? Holder deemed those attorneys to have been INTENTIONALLY wrong (when, in fact, they were correct in their legal advice regarding interrogation methods). Now, he says that nobody at DOJ “lied” because in order to “lie”, you have to have that in your heart. Use Holder’s own standard to evaluate Holder. Then impeach him. Then jail him.

      Even if you buy their explanation for what this operation was supposed to be, even if everything would have gone exactly as planned they wouldn’t have accomplished anything.

      The gun dealers that were involved in this operation were forced by the DOJ to intentionally sell the guns to people that they knew were not only criminals but not even citizens of the united states.

    I have to admit to being converted. I now support Gun Control. There is no way any federal official or employee should be allowed to possess a gun, comment on guns or gun ownership, or pass a law regarding guns at all. They have proven definitively that they are incapable of making sane decision and most definitely cannot even follow the laws they help create.

    Doesn’t intentionally supplying an enemy of the US, the drug lords, with weapons count as treason? If so, I demand to see trials and, if convicted, executions.

      Actually during the Bush years the gun buyers were being arrested at leaving the gun stores. The program that allowed guns to walk started in 2009. Bush was busting the straw buyers. Under Obama they were supposedly trying bust those who were hiring the straw buyers. Or as many have thought they were trying to create and influx of gun violence by allowing guns to walk in hopes of creating new regulations. Either way the ATF under Bush didn’y allow gun walks Under Obama and Holder THEY DID.
      Here the real question if alcohol tobacco and fire arms are legal why do we spend billions for a secretative government agency to police it. TIME TO SHUT DOWN THE ATF.

It was created as a means to deliver weapons to enemies of the united states under the guise of a “sting”.       I call BS. First of all, Holder didn’t put a stop to it. Sunlight put a stop to it. Holder tried (and continues to try) to cover it up. The AZ field offices of the ATF put the brakes on when it became clear they were busted. Also, regrding the “it started under Bush” meme you gun-grabbers have latched on to, that is also BS. A seperate operation called “Wide Receiver” started under Bush. It was much smaller and less harmful than “Fast and Furious”, which belongs completely to Holder and Obama. That said, they were still allowing guns to walk and by all means should also be facing charges. Lastly, you don’t get to use government sanctioned murder to try to justify legislation you want passed. Trying to pin this on the NRA is ridiculous. Man up. Accept the obvious truth that the US government coercing law-abiding dealers to break the law, in order to put guns in the hands of killers in Mexico (especially when they are know to use them against Americans), just to pad statistics is a bad thing. Seriously. What kind of partisan munatic takes the other side of this issue?

      @bernbart, under Bush, the Mexican government was directly involved, where as under Obummer, they were not involved at all. This may explain why the Mexican government was so pissed off. The other difference is that Holder got caught lying to congress and he and the DOJ are still lying. But I will agree, the entire gun walking thing is just plain stupid and wrong.

      What you seem to have missed is that “this program” was changed under Obama — not “cleaned up.“ The change was allowing guns to ”walk” without closely observing where they went. Under Obama, the scope of the program was also massively scaled up.
