Homeland Security Funded Study Lists People Reverent of Individual Liberty as Extreme Right Wing Terrorists

Are you “reverent of individual liberty?“ Are you ”suspicious of centralized federal authority?“ Do you think there is a ”grave threat to national sovereignty and/or personal liberty?”

Well, then you fall into the category of “extreme right-wing” terrorist, according to a new study out of the University of Maryland, which was funded in part by the Department of Homeland Security.

The study, titled “Hot Spots of Terrorism and Other Crimes in the United States, 1970-2008,” was conducted by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) at the university. The organization has received roughly $12 million from DHS and is set to get another $3.6 million in future funding. It is also listed as one of DHS’s “Centers for Excellence” on the agency’s website.

The study says right-wing extremists are “groups that believe that one’s personal and/or national ‘way of life’ is under attack and is either already lost or that the threat is imminent.”

Further, right-wing extremist groups “believe in the need to be prepared” by taking part in “paramilitary preparations and training or survivalism.“ Groups may also be ”fiercely nationalistic“ and ”suspicious of centralized federal authority.”

Right-wing extremism also involves a belief in “conspiracy theories that involve grave threat to national sovereignty and/or personal liberty,” the study claims.

Interestingly, in an oversight that is not explained, the report barely mentions radical Islam. Instead the study lumps religious terrorist groups into one category and describes them as “groups that seen to smite the purported enemies of God and other evildoers, impose strict religious tenants or laws on society (fundamentalists), forcibly insert religion into the political sphere.”

The recently appointed director of the START center is Bill Braniff, who argues that widespread “Islamophobia” is present in law enforcement training materials. He was quoted in a July 2011 NPR article saying, “I think this is something that happens across the nation fairly consistently… No one is tracking this with numbers, but anecdotally we are hearing about it all the time. The Muslim-American community is being preyed upon from two different directions.”

According to START’s website, “Braniff has also taken a keen interest in the field of Countering Violent Extremism (CVE). He has consulted with the Department of Justice, the FBI and the National Security Staff, playing a key role in an interagency working group dedicated to the topic.”

So it shouldn’t be surprising that the study also appears to leave out some important data about “religious terrorism.” As pointed out by PJ Media:

In Table 4 (p. 22), titled “Hot Spots of Religious Terrorism by Decade”, three “hot spot” areas — Los Angeles, Manhattan, and Wasco, Oregon (former home of the Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh) — are identified:

The study shows no religious terrorism in Manhattan during the 1990s. How about the 1993 World Trade Center bombing? Or the 1994 Brooklyn Bridge Jewish student van shooting by Rashid Baz that killed 16-year-old Ari Halberstam after Baz heard a fiery anti-Jewish sermon at his local mosque? Or the 1997 Empire State Building observation deck shooting by Ali Abu Kamal that killed one tourist and injured six others before Kamal took his own life?

And then there was the 2002 shooting at the Los Angeles Airport El Al counter by Hesham Mohamed Hadayet that killed two and wounded four others. The FBI and Justice Department concluded that the attack was a terrorist attack by an Egyptian assailant bent on becoming a Muslim martyr.

These are reflected nowhere in the study. Perhaps, like the 2009 Fort Hood massacre by Major Nidal Hasan, who gunned down his U.S. Army colleagues while shouting “Allahu Akbar,” these incidents are considered acts of “workplace violence” and not religious terrorism?

Have these incidents been redefined to prevent facts from conflicting with an agenda-driven narrative? Or have these data points been excluded altogether?

To be sure, the definition of extreme left-wing terrorists describes the Occupy Wall Street movement almost perfectly:

Groups that want to bring about change through violent revolution rather than through established political processes. This category also includes secular left-wing groups that rely heavily on terrorism to overthrow the capitalist system and either establish a “dictatorship of the proletariat” (Marxist-Leninists) or, much more rarely, a decentralized, non-hierarchical political system (anarchists).

Other terrorist groups include “entho-nationalist/separatists” (think New Black Panther Party) and “single issue” organizations, such as “anti-abortion” advocates.

Further, taking a look at the START dataset’s codebook, two subgroups of “right-wing extremism“ were identified as ”gun rights“ and ”tax protest,” according to PJ Media.

The definition of “terrorism” seems to be expanding at an alarming rate as the federal government and other left-leaning scholarly institutions are increasingly classifying seemingly harmless actions such as cherishing personal liberty and opposing abortion as potential terrorist activity.

This isn’t the first time taxpayers have funded these types of terrorism “studies.”

For example, the FBI’s Communities Against Terrorism program recently classified things such as the bulk purchase of food and paying with cash at a coffee shop as indicators for potential terrorist activity.

It appears that anyone could be considered a terrorist these days, depending on who controls the interpretation of the information.

      You are right about many of Dr. Paul’s ideas. He expounds the libertarian view to the Nth degree. As far as wanting wars? If we don’t stop the Isalmic takeover of the world and put a stop to the pandering to these people in Washington, it won’t be but a few generations away that your great grandchildren will be living under Shariah Law and will have NO individual freedoms what so ever. Look back at the history before WWII. Chamberlin visited Hitler and then returned to England claiming that Hitler didn’t want war, that he was a peaceful politician and that all of Europe could live in peace and that he wouldn’t attack anybody.

      Keep the government out of my affairs, my business and my domicile but don’t lose sight of the fact that there are those, especially Communists, Neo Nazis and Islamics who would attack America and rule her with an iron fist.

      Glenn is a very voiciferous exponent for Individual Liberties. He believes that for America to regain her original glory, government MUST get out of the way and alllow the private sector and innovative inventors to be allowed to thrive without being saddled with incessant regulations from Washington. He, however knows that without constant vigilance, those bent on destroying this country will gain the upper hand. They are plotting right now. They are trying to figure out how to make the public lose all faith in our government giving them an open door to a Islamo-Facist or Communist dictatorship.

      So our Founding Fathers were Right-Wing Terrorists. I guess we are amongst good company. Of course we mistrust Government, we have to, it is the only way to keep the evil of Government in check. It doesn’t mean we do so through mindless terrorist violence.

Many of them of them are so wrapped up in this ideology as to not think any further to what will happen when they get all the power they seek.

      I think history amply shows what happens and it isn’t in the benefit of individual freedom.

      So our Founding Fathers told us to be ever vigilant and wrote down on God given rights, including the RIGHT to bear arms. They knew that some day, we might just have to “Man Up” just as they did against the British Centralized Authority, who was a grave threat to our national sovereignty and personal liberty.

      Happy Fourth of July everyone and remember, there is NO such thing as a Right-Wing Terrorist. Conservatives don’t do violence against individuals they only fight big Centralized Authorities and they do it through the system unless no other option exists and then they follow Thomas Jefferson.

      Interestingly, the report also lists Extreme Left Wing, Religious, Ethno-Nationalist/Separatist, and Single Issue groups/individuals as potential terrorists. After reading their descriptions of what makes a person a terrorist, its very clear that our government, and their lackeys in academia have decided that any person who is aware of and willing to fight against the evils of a corrupt government, anyone who will point out that the government even MIGHT be corrupt or out of line, anyone who will not go along with the status quo to preserve the government’s power is qualified as a potential terrorist threat. It is not just we the right wing that should be made uncomfortable because of this. It is ANYONE who sees and states that this government is abusing it’s power. So, to not be a terrorist, you must be silent, be unaware, and be fooled. Be absorbed in American Idol, NFL, the events at the Roman Stadium, play a violin while Rome burns, but for Heaven’s sake, DON’T be aware of corruption, and for your own good, DON’T talk about it. And if you want to be assured of prosperity, vote how they tell you to vote and DO NOT oppose the current administration.

      Since when has being a Good, patriotic American meant becoming a drone??
      By this measure, Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Henry, Madison, Hancock, Adams, and all the rest of our founders were terrorists.

      This almost 60 year old mama still has a HUGE Ron Paul sign on the back window of my Nissan Rogue. SO I guess that makes me a terrorist now. What is really sad is that those sections in the NDAA were passed (even by some so called Republicans who support the constituion). So now any US President can deem one a terrorist, then just round you up and detain you without due process. Sounds like those FEMA camps may actually be true.       I don‘t believe it’s a commie government that is the issue. I think it‘s a global government that’s is pushing this nonsense. Keep in mind reverence to individual liberty is only one qualifier. Suspicion to centralized power, adversion to global governance, people who accept conspiracy theories, and reverence to national sovereignty along with a love for individual liberty is who they’re looking at. In other words, establishment Republicans who can be controlled by media propaganda (voted legal by MANY on the so called right in Washington) will be fine.       Look what they did with nationalized health care. Pre-Øbama, only the far left saw some far reaching urgency that “everyone” had to have health insurance. Most of the center and right believed that most that wanted health insurance had it, and that the “poor” had it through Medicaid. Now the question from the media is Not – do you believe that everyone should have health insurance, run by the government?, but – if Øbama Care is repealed, how are you going to pay so that everyone has health insurance?

      It’s assumed that at some imaginary point, everyone has agreed that “everyone has to have health insurance”. That’s just nuts.

      I, too, would like to know how it is now a question of how to cover everyone rather than should we be covering everyone-with med ins. Why do they insist that there should be a new healthcare law? Why isn’t the assumption that it is time for the fed gov to back out of the healthcare industry? If anything, to release the restrictions they created in the first place that caused medical care to sky rocket? Let the states implement hardcore restrictions on legal suits? And so on…
      And while I’m on this little tangent, Why are they assuming that everyone believes that ‘kids’ should be covered till their 26? Another false premise…

      @Planecrashlaws, You are a fool if this is what you truly think. I am an individual who will make my own decisions on what is best for me and my family. I do not need the Government dictating my life or my family’s life when I am more than capable of taking care of me and my family. I do not need the Government forcing me and my family to purchase something that I am capable of doing myself. If I want or need Health Insurance I can either get it through a job or purchase it on my own and don’t need the Government telling me otherwise. I will not vote for Obama in Nov. not just because of the Healthcare Bill, but based upon every other thing he has done that has made our lives worse in this country. Last but least, the only bloody twits that will vote for Obama are the Blind, Deaf, Indoctrinated and Unions and their members. NOBAMA 2012

      You clearly don’t understand the very law you support. In order for the government to penalize those who don’t purchase insurance they must first decide what factors will be used to determine if you are “sufficiently covered”. If you current coverage isn’t considered “sufficient” by the IRS guess what? You CAN keep it but you will be penalized for doing so. The government can now control health insurance companies by threatening to not allow their customers to be exempted from the penalty.

      The ‘healthcare law’ cost me pennies? Try dollars, and lots of them–and the IRS gets to snoop into your records. The way the law is structured, it appears to be ‘benefits now/tax later’–most of the taxes take effect during the second term (heaven forbid) or AFTER Obama leaves office.

      –A 10% sales tax on indoor tanning took effect (July 2010).
      –Employers must disclose the value of the benefits they provided beginning in 2012 for each employee‘s health insurance coverage on the employees’ annual Form W-2′s. This requirement was originally to be effective January 1, 2011, but was postponed by IRS Notice 2010–69 on October 23, 2010 (January 2012).
      –Income from self-employment and wages of single individuals in excess of $200,000 annually will be subject to an additional tax of 0.9% (January 2013).
      –Most medical devices become subject to a 2.3% excise tax collected at the time of purchase (January 2014).
      Health insurance companies become subject to a new excise tax based on their market share; the rate gradually rises between 2014 and 2018 and thereafter increases at the rate of inflation (January 2014).

      Patriot act was originally democrat and current vice president Joe Biden‘s law in the 90’s. He couldn’t get it passed. It seems that, like the federal reserve system. if one party can’t pass it the other does. What to do? There seems to be so much power and wealth behind a one world all controlling no where left to run world. Enough times 1000 to buy all the politicians or dirt on any non conforming politicians to buy this.

      So what to do? How to fight what amounts to a religion of absolute zealots with the worst part is that they have been convinced that they are doing good, not evil. That fairness is unfair, freedom is slavery responsibility and individuality is something to be savaged and destroyed, all the while believing they are standing up for fairness, kindness etc. in an orwellian double speak manner.

      How do you reach them? How do we stop this. I see people thinking small preparing themselves which is good in the short term but if it gets that bad, if they do collapse europe, the US, Japan. If it gets bad enough to need those guns, then i’m afraid we, the world, have already lost to them.

      So what do we do? I’m honestly asking, because if we do nothing but think small they will win be default, a hundred years of plotting and destroying and they have brought the world to this point. Took longer than planned I’m sure. The funny thing is the believers will suffer as much as the rest of us if they win. Why do they not understand that?

      Because I dont expect the Democrats to vote for freedom. Everyone is pissed at the Obama and the Supreme court for Obamacare being unconstitutional. But the same people mad at them for that ignore the the Patriot act and the NDAA being unconstitutional.

      You either believe in the Constitution or you dont. Those men I mentioned only use the Constitution to try and get the real conservatives and the libertarian vote.
