Homeland Security Loses Track of Nearly 6 Million Immigrants

Following Sept. 11, one would assume that the U.S. government’s broken system for tracking illegals would be better than ever.  Unfortunately, reality paints the opposite picture.  Despite being attacked by Middle Eastern terrorists whose visas had expired, the U.S. is still failing to properly examine immigrants’ status.

Unfortunately, there are millions of foreigners who initially come here legally, but do not maintain the proper immigration status.  Judicial Watch has more:

…nearly half of the nation’s estimated 12 million illegal immigrants actually entered the U.S. legally but overstayed their visa, according to a new federal report. That’s because the agency responsible for keeping the nation safe—the Department of Homeland Security—can’t keep track of immigrants who remain in the U.S. after their visas expire.

This clearly creates a huge national security issue because terrorists can plot more attacks from within. In fact, dozens of foreigners convicted of terrorism since the 2001 attacks had overstayed their visas, according to the report, which was published by the investigative arm of Congress known as the Government Accountability Office (GAO).

Surprisingly, Homeland Security has yet to come up with a viable program that can adequately protect the nation.  Aside from the basic fact that the government should ensure, to the best of its ability, that immigration laws are upheld, the fact that terrorists can (and already have) exploited these security loopholes should be cause for concern.

The report offers the following recommendations: draft a “civil overstay plan,” revisit systems used to prevent terrorists from exploiting the system and “develop outcome-based performance measures,” among other proposals.

With the nation’s security at stake, Homeland Security should take heed.

    We can’t track someone who overstayed their Visa, but we have no problem with year-long undercover operations for the interstate trafficking of raw milk or shutting down family rabbitries in the Midwest for selling more than $500 worth of bunnies.

    Colleges, businesses, police during routine stops (no matter what ethnicity), bosses, all need to check the status of their employees with HLS and people found, who were currently lost, need to be deported. It it up to them to maintain their status and if they don’t they need to go home. Obviously they have no regard or fear of the consequences of their actions, which means they have no respect for the United States and what she so willingly offers them.       Until our national leadership actually decides that they want this problem fixed, it will stay broken. I once lived in Germany. My stay there was completely dependent upon a Visa stamped in my passport that had to be renewed every six months, and I had to have proof that I actually lived where I said I did. If I moved, I then had about one week to update my visa or I would have been deported. And, all this was totally my burden to meet, not the government’s burden. Oh, and I could not rent an apartment without a current visa. All of this was my burden and I had to pay for the visa – a self funded program. There was no head-of-the-line privilege for anyone. I was a show up with your passport and proof of legal residency and stand in line. If you were there as a student, if you failed, the government was notified that same day. If you lost you job, they were notified. Out of status equalled out of country. Period.

Guess who made a number of appearances after the Christmas Day “crotch bomber” incident. Right!

      Why, those figures on the pretty yellow sign look like scared innocents running from bad men who are cutting off people’s heads and bludgeoning them with sledge hammers! It‘s only right that our President take them in as political refugees even though he’s not doing a thing to alleviate the hell that characterizes modern Mexico. The sign, however, no matter how cute–and I really like the cheery yellow–doesn’t accurately depict the reality of those crossing the border illegally. It would be more accurate to show a big semi with about 400 bodies crammed on top of each other or short stalky guys on foot with backpacks full of narcotics, jihadist pamphlets and automatic weapons.       EVERY state needs to pass a VOTER-ID law ASAP.
      Last election, I was waiting in line, and a voter was asked for ID.
      The voter pulled out a wallet, held it VERY close to her vest, and proceeded to dig through AT LEAST six social security cards.
      I mentioned this to the poll-worker who said there was nothing they could do about it.
      Let’s make sure our states have VOTER ID laws NOW!
      A valid STATE ISSUED ID would be required in order to vote.
      A law-enforcement officer would be on duty at each polling station verifying validity of STATE-ISSUED ID cards. If you attempt to use a fraudulent ID, you go to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect social-security. Do not collect unemployment. Do not collect food stamps. Spend the next 13 months making license plates or helping to build a 51-foot wall on our borders.

      extremely astute observations.when has any LEA “prevented” a crime upon a citizen?-the best they can do is show up after said crime.i’m not dissing them,just stating fact.unless we’re lurching toward a “minority report” scenario,God forbid,people need to practice SA-situational awareness-and be prepared accordingly.
      as you stated-it’s up to us individually.self defense is “self” explanatory.

      Close to ten years for them to come up with a viable plan of action to curb this illegal activity and Homeland Security STILL doesn’t have one. Our government is so broke that the right hand has no idea we even have a left hand. It’s up to us, the citizens, to demand the system be fixed by any means possible.       This administration and virtually ALL its’ cabinet appointees are derelict (at best), and are acting in the worst interests of the American citizenry. Congress should call for IMMEDIATE hearings to determine the extent of malfeasance and dereliction of office has been BY NAME, appoint special prosecutors to deal with the actual TRAITORS among them, and begin impeachment of this worthless excuse for “president” as soon as possible.

      The harshest possible punishment should be handed out to those in government who have betrayed the trust of the American people.

The solution is not to let them all in. They are on our border and we need to help them. We have no business to be all over the world with our troops and they need to be here. That is where humanitarian efforts are needed.

      Homeland Security is a “facade” being used now to implant a “Big Brother” system for monoriting America citizens, not foreign illegal immigrants and certainly not foreign terrorists. Six milliion foreigners with expired visas is cause for real concern. However, our present administration doesn’t want illegal immigrants to be molested, much less arrested and deported.

      Before I started my business a few years back, I remember being unemployed and walking into a temp agency and there was nothing but hispanics all speaking spanish and I was the only black guy in there. Even the clerks all were hispanic. Right here in Cleveland. I don‘t know if that’s because blacks don’t want to work, or other reasons, I’m just describing what I saw.

      Of course, I didn’t get sent out on a job THAT day…
