SAN BRUNO, Calif. (AP) — A massive fire is roaring through a mostly residential neighborhood in the San Francisco suburb of San Bruno.
Firefighters from San Bruno and surrounding cities are battling the blaze that started on a hillside and is now consuming homes in a residential neighborhood.
Television live shots show at least a dozen homes destroyed, with flames reaching now as high as 50 to 60 feet into the air.
A South San Francisco fire official confirmed earlier that firefighters were responding to a fire, but had no other details.
Witnesses say a loud explosion was felt just before the flames erupted around 6 p.m. Thursday.
The fire is burning in a mostly residential area a few miles from San Francisco International Air, but the Federal Aviation Administration and a spokesman for the airport say they have no record of a plane crash.

Posted on September 10, 2010 at 1:26amI once responded to the smell of natural gas in an area, As I arrived and just starting to order the “gawkers” further back there was a VERY loud explosion and the water heater went sailing skyhigh with a rapid fire under the thing.
It could be a Water Heater explosion and rupturing a larger gas pipe causing a larger rapid enveloping fire in a densely populated area.
I also seen the same thing with a large propane tank by a home, destroying the house and causing the two houses on each side to catch on fire.
Just sayin’ I would look at these until evidence of another cause is put forward by a reliable source.
Hope no one got hurt.

Posted on September 9, 2010 at 11:55pmMaybe Glenn Beck will get on the air to explain once again that it’s ok, “those are just the homes of america-haters burning.” Then you can stop praying for them and start hating them because Glenn Beck told you so.

Report Post »2nd: That fire isn’t a home (or homes). Too big, too long. Looks like gas pipeline, but how?

Posted on September 9, 2010 at 11:41pmThe massive size of that fire which looked every bit of 150 – 200 ft. high at times and the breadth of its base lends me to be inclined to think that there is another fuel source other than the normal neighborhood homes and surroundings.

Posted on September 9, 2010 at 11:24pmObviously prayers and thoughts go out to folks in that neighborhood, but am I the only one who’s stuck on this “explosion” and the fact that in this day in age there’s yet to be an explanation? I’m not alleging a conspiracy by any means, I just don‘t understand how there hasn’t been any update to tell us the cause. Isn‘t it usually a matter of minutes before there’s at least an educated theory? Some sort of transformer explosion or pipe bursting? I could see if it was 3am, but this post went up at 7:30 PT. Just weird.
