Honest Critique: Jon Stewart Clashes With Rachel Maddow

In a primetime interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Thursday evening, comedian (and stomach flu patient) Jon Stewart gave a candid assessment of the 24-hour cable news “arms race” and how they’ve missed the point of his “Rally to Restore Sanity.”
In the end, Maddow says Stewart’s critique of cable news is “unfair” and that she doesn’t buy it, “not even for a minute.” But hey, at least she had an open mind…?
Much to Maddow’s seeming dismay, Stewart doesn’t appear to think Fox News is as eeeeevil as she does, admitting that Fox may be ideological, but isn’t partisan:
After poking fun at President George W. Bush for years, what does Stewart have to say about him now? Stewart challenges Maddow’s “reporting” on Bush and points out that her personal beliefs color her reporting. Maddow’s response: Who, me?
Though some people in America may rely on Stewart for keeping them up-to-speed on the world’s goings on, Stewart says he feels closer to the likeness of Jerry Seinfeld than CNN or MSNBC. When Maddow admits that Stewart’s process to put on a show is similar to the way she runs her own show, Stewart tells her she needs to change it:
While Maddow disparages conservatives and tea partiers, Stewart calls Maddow out on her blatant double-standards and unquestioning support of the far-left. While Maddow seems to think she and Stewart are “on the same team” — that is, standing opposed to conservatives and Republicans — Stewart says not so fast:

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 3:23amIt’s nice to see a calm discussion between a somewhat independent intellectual and his high school student interviewer. I wonder if, had Stewart actually said what he thought (and was alluding to) about MSNBC and Maddow’s show, would she have walked out on her own interview? I wish we could start having civil conversations once more without everyone and their union/religion/activist group getting so darn defensive.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 3:10amJohn had it right … to a degree. It is a fight between the left and the right when it shouldn’t be. It should be American people vs. Corruption. But the media will never fall into that category because they’re completely biased and should all be taken out back and shot. Honestly fox news isn’t that bad, still bad but not in the same league as msnbc. Beck tells people to look it up and do their homework but still people criticize him for what he says. Of course they leave out the part where he says, DON’T take my word for it, look it up. It‘s f’ing despicable. Really I can’t take msnbc for more than 5 seconds before shouting at my tv and calling them retards. They really are. Really.
Report Post »KGB agents who defected to the US have come out and said this is what happens when communism is on the horizon. Massive takeovers of the media. Remember when Hugo Chavez wrote to Fidel that they might end up to the right of Obama. Why aren’t they keeping that up in the msnbc news, why keep talking about the Tea Party then? Or how about how Guantanamo is still open? Another broken promise, but you’ll let that story die, won’t you? Keep selling yourself out. See where that gets you. Maybe you can be a prostitute some day, already have sold your mind, why not your body now? Really would like to see you talk about the facts but that will never happen.

She did not and will not for a moment question her bias nature and ideological narrow mindedness. Her ego will not allow a self examination of the basic premise of her beliefs so she will remain a partisan mouth piece for the democrat’s with very predictable opinions. Because of her ignorance I actually felt sympathy for her…. momentarily.

Report Post »Those were big issues, off the top of my head, that got Bush alot of criticism from commentators on Fox News.
Not to mention the outrage over the Patriot Act from Judge Andrew Napolitano, which he continues to this day.
I wonder if she actually watched, or watches Fox. I love to watch MSNBC- Olbermann, Maddow, Matthews…(not so much Schultz and Ratigan. They are just what MSNBC execs think Limbaugh and Beck do…they’re obvious rip-offs) I also watch Maher, Behar, and Cooper. I don’t want do be in an echo chamber. I’m not afraid of cognitive dissonance. I like to know what I’m talking about when I criticize someone.
It’s just funny that Jon Stewart can see her bias clearly, and she doesn’t accept the premise, even from him.
By the way, the U.S. is still practicing rendition and false flag operations, to allow third parties to perform coerced interrogations on terror suspects…..Guantanamo is still open….
U.S. operatives have waterboarded 3 (three) terror suspects in the last ten years.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 1:18amI listened to this entire interview tonight on XM radio.
First, Maddow’s build-up for this would have you believe she felt she was gonna interview Will Rogers’ zombie. Telling.
As a casual listener I was really floored by two things:
1. Rachel is much duller than I thought and on a multiple levels. Nice gal prolly, but definitely unaware of many things. Like the vast number of people who oppose her principles on their merits, coupled with her fantastic notion that her limited view (and the minority who hold the same) are pure. Jon Stewart (her God) be damned, apparently. He clearly demonstrated this divide, and it is a clear divide from “mere liberal” and progressive, Maddow. H/T Larry.
2. Maddow really wants to be on Comedy Central. I don’t truly believe for ratings or upgrade in writing staff either. The many times Maddow and her beliefs were painfully spurned in this interview (and-they-were) you could sense a palpable disappointment, nay, heartbreak. Sure, Rachel would throw up a weak defense but Stewart, (I was not previously a big fan), kept steering her back to pretty sound reason (seemed a painful task each time too). Loved it.
I hope to God this video is analyzed closely and critically on both sites that end in progress and begin with big.
Enlightening in many ways. BTW, the nightly news and the jokes that claim to be Leno and Letterman will skirt this completely or pivot to the left. Zzzzzz.
Question: since I didn’t have the benefit of video, can someone tell me if the video ended with a pathetic hug, initiated by Maddow? Sounded like it and it made me gag a bit.
That said, I do have a newfound respect for Stewart after this.
Still think his rally, and their attendees were/are pointless.

Once again she as all progessives accuse the conservatives for the very things that they do themselves. This woman also exagerates to make her point but she has to realize that Stewart has the opportunity because he is a comedian, she on the other hand is supposed to give the actual news. As you can see in the first few segments she was not happy. Toward the end when he started kissing her butt and complimented her she softened up. Just agree with them and you can be their pals. He handled things tactfully, and she showed her true progressive self. It is almost like she pms’s twenty four seven. ‘

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 11:40amSnow – I think this is probably a contrast in Stewart’s own line of thinking as opposed to his show in general, where he is working with his writers. His head writer previously worked for the New York Times. Other writers on staff have worked the New York Times as well, and also for Bill Maher, SNL, etc. Just because Jon takes a stance on issues in his show, those stances may not truely be as leftist as he may personally believe. I guess we’ll never know the real Jon until he does move “onto the playing field”, which I think is a definite possibility.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 1:38pmMaddow was diffused as Stewart refused to blindly agree with any of her points while not losing his cool and subjecting himself to extremes and name calling as MSNBC pundits often do. Maddow was clever in disguising herself to make Stewart’s words appear in conjunction with hers and always made sure that they agreed on some miniscule aspect of each point to make her look in control, rational and fair. For example:
Maddow: Stewart, you do agree that Bush is bad?
Stewart: Not at all, just mistakes were made
Maddow: But he waterboarded people..
Stewart: Only three, and they lived and we never were attacked again
Maddow: But, but you agree that waterboarding is harsh and torturous?
Stewart: Of course, but that’s the point
*conversation ends as Maddow got an agreement from Stewart regardless if the whole point was diagreed upon in the first place*

The problem with the MSM, Bloomberg, the POTUS, and others is that they think the general public is too stupid to understand the complex issues of the day and feel it is their duty to do the thinking for us, by packaging it into short emotional soundbites in the most general terms possible, punctuated with huge leaps in logic and non-sequitors.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 12:39pmEveryone please remember one simple thing when it comes to tea ****** or others who put posts on this site like this: It is the nudge that is placed on here to insight you to respond with some type of emotional response. It is a trap, plain and simple. All of you know that these type of people have no ideas or solution to our problems and will only use things based on fear and emotion to insight dialogue. Do Not fall for it (which some of us do on this site). Remember the left does not use any sense of rational thought or common sense – everything is based on emotion or what feels good or what everyone else is doing. We simply have to stay on message at all times. When things are posted on here like this it is meant to get us off message. This is the only way the left can engage in an intellectual debate because they have no ideas based on common sense, rule of law or deductive reasoning. It is all based in fear, emotion or knee jerk reactions with no thought put forth. So what I am asking for is for everyone who reads this to take a pledge with me and not respond to posts like this with the same tone or school yard tactics that the left loves to use. We need to be the people of ideas, solutions, hope, faith, love of family, friends and neighbors. If we could do this we will continue moving the country forward just as we have started and people like tea ****** will have a choice – get on board the bus (you can sit where you want on our bus) or get left behind.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 3:19pmJon is one of the few fresh voices on TV, no doubt he’s much farther to the left than I he has reason for his position. Over all he spears the right a bit more than the left but it’s usually deserved and spot on. I also notice no venom in his opinions, that alone is refreshing. Anyone who makes you think should be kept around, Jon is one of those plus he’s funny as heck.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 4:03pmAgain folks don‘t wade in tbp’s pool by having President Reagans picture put in front of his name. I know many of you are gonna want to comment on this, but again this is a calculated move to insight you to get into an emotional debate. Don’t fall for this trick, no matter how stongly you feel. It is the same lame trick and we fall for it time and time again. Keep your eyes on the prize and Moving Forward….let them lean backwards!

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 10:34pmWay to go, Jon! The only way we are going to survive against the Progressive, Open Society fascists is for conservatives and liberals to band together as AMERICANS.

Posted on November 12, 2010 at 10:39pmTo sprotlock, ignore the idiot libral in “Tea bagging” disguise. He has shown time after time that he knows nothing about what Conservatives belive. He is probably some kid in his parents basement that has been exposed to too much Radon. Stewart has always been somewhat balanced but liberal leaning. He has a lot more sense then people that call themselves “reporters” on MSNBC.
