Honesty: Democratic Congressman Leaves Congress Because ‘Nothing Is Going to Happen’

Democratic Representative Dennis Cardoza of California might not hold your political beliefs, but if you want to talk about a “no BS” attitude, you can’t do much better than his most recent announcement.
What announcement? Why, the announcement that Cardoza is leaving Congress effective tonight, of course! You see, Rep. Cardoza was already planning to retire, but thought he might be able to achieve something in his last year in office. With slightly less than half a year to go, he apparently decided that was a fool’s hope.
“In light of the fact that nothing is going to happen for the rest of the year, and in light of the fact that (my wife) and I are facing increasing parenting challenges, this seemed the right time to make this move,” Cardoza told the Sacramento Bee in an interview yesterday.
So abrupt is Cardoza’s election that no special election will be held to fill out his term. Rather, his office will remain in operation, with staff corresponding with constituents and essentially managing any and all duties that the Congressman otherwise would have been required to perform. It will be as though a ghost is representing California’s 18th District.
Due to redistricting, Cardoza’s seat is not technically up for grabs come November. Rather, whoever the Republican nominee is will likely face current Democratic Congressman Jim Costa, who would have been stuck in a primary against Cardoza if the latter had not retired.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 7:20amHis district will be eliminated. He would have to run against another Democrat to keep his seat. He was made an offer by strong friends of the Democrat Party. His “retirement” is an orchestration. He is not doing this to make the point that Congress is broken. He is doing this for the “good” of his Party and he will be rewarded by his Party. He is going to work at a Democrat controlled law firm, Manatt. From Wikipedia: Manatt, Phelps & Phillips was founded by Charles Taylor Manatt, who later became chairman of the Democratic National Committee…
See the picture?

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 9:35amSo I guess the voters who “hired” him to do his job for 2 full years just get stuck for a few months with no representation.
Will we hear moans from the Libs about abandoning his constituents? Don’t count on it.
I‘m curious who’s paying for his staff to keep an office open and “essentially managing any and all duties that the Congressman otherwise would have been required to perform.” Like introducing/voting in Congress for legislation that would benefit his constituents? Good news for the rest of us but bad news for them.
This is so absurd that it defies description…although that statement describes most of the Left’s behavior in the last 3 1/2 years.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 6:46amI don’t believe he is leaving Congress because “nothing is going to happen”. I think he is leaving because something is, (finally), going to happen and he wants out now because he knows that something ain’t gonna be good for him.
Just a guess on my part, but why would he suddenly be bothered by a do-nothing Congress enough to quit when that has been the case for years?

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 6:38amDid anyone else notice that his staff will continue to do his job?
This should tell you something about our representatives and the high paid appointed cabinet members. If they disappear the professional government employees will continue to function and life will go on as before.
Look at the money we could save the taxpayers by having one elected representative from each state. They would be appointed by the governor and could be fired if they did not perform as instructed. The state would pay them instead of them deciding their own pay and benefits. Laws they passed would apply to them not to just the citizens.
We could do away with Dept of Ed, Dept of Energy, Dept of Homland Security and get back to he basic cabinet positions established by the founding fathers.
This should result in less taxes, more freedom and less people in DC who think they are god.

Report Post »Along with that thought we should also get rid of the Senate and SCOTUS. Give the rights back to the states. Imagine educated people giving a bunch of overrated lawyers a life time job to rule over the entire country. Of course they will grab the job, who wouldn’t?

Posted on August 14, 2012 at 10:40pmHey Blaze, the correct term is “Democrat” congressman. Not “Democratic” congressman. “Democratic” describes a political system. “Democrat” describes a politcal party. We really have to stop saying “Democratic” when describing a politicians politcal affiliation. Two totally different words.
