Hong Kong Debuts Tiny, Pod-Like Hotel Rooms as a Place to Sleep for Cheap

For some looking for a hotel room, all they really want is a place to lay their head. So, a $100, $200 or $300+ bill per night is not appealing. Enter the pod, or capsule, hotel room, which comes at more attractive $30 per night.

The Associated Press reports that Hong Kong is introducing some of its first capsule hotels, which feature row upon row of beds that look eerily similar to slots portraying a county morgue in Hollywood movies.

Capsule Hotel Provides Place to Sleep for $30 per Night

Galaxy Star Shk has been providing beds such as this for university students for some time and has now branched out to hotels.

Watch the AP report with guest’s opinion of the capsule beds:

Would you stay in a hotel pod to save cash while traveling?

      Speaking of jails…
The next time the aclu attacks on behalf of supposed prison overcrowding, let’s make certain we remind the judge of these and of the Japanese version of these that have been around for a long time, and people are PAYING for them, while we have to supply prisoners with cable tv, gymnasiums, carpet, college educations, medications, food, clothing, and 24/7 security.
Where is their “duty to act” now?

These are common in Japan, where real estate is at a premium. At $30 a night though you would have to wonder who was sleeping next to you, and who would be hanging around near a place of this sort. Seems to be a low rent attraction for getting more people into Hong Kong. That speaks volumes for the current financial status of Honk Kong.

You can already find cheap motels here in the US that charge $30-$35/per night for a whole room so why would someone pay $30 for a tiny capsule? $10 a night might be worth it.

It’s amazing how little space one needs to be comfortable. Even as a child I found small organized surroundings to be very comfortable. Since then I‘ve lived big and I’ve lived small… I prefer small.

not sure about in China, but in Japan (where they have been using these pod like “rooms” for years to be used by those on a tight budget) public baths aren’t too hard to find and neither would be public rest rooms.

Yeah, how many times did you grab a row of seats and took out some clothes out of your carry on to try and flatten out the areas between the seats.

That would be a good idea to add to an airport. Like they have the lockers.

As citizens of the state these comfortable sleeping quarters will be sufficient for all your needs. Every attempt will be made to assure families are quartered on the same floor. The state encourages families to eat in the dining hall if they have the same schedule meal period. Parents may visit their children during work breaks provided the child has the same scheduled break period. Since all citizens must be productive in order to pay for the cost of these facilities, tardiness and absenteeism will be strictly punished by banishment for the pod center. (sarcasim over)

Why does looking at these sleeping pods creep me out?
